All three of my children attended Amherst Cooperative Nursery School. My husband and I really researched pre-schools in WNY to ensure that our children's first school experience would be wonderful & positive. What sold us on ACNS? 1.) The teachers all are NY State certified (this means that they have a 4 yr Bachelor's degree in an educational field, have done student teaching, and have their Master's degree in Education). This is incredibly rare for pre-schools. The teachers REALLY know how to teach to pre-schoolers so the children could learn while having fun. They also get out of the classroom a lot. They might go outside for a nature walk/scavenger hunt, plant bulbs in the fall and see them come up in the spring, or so many other things. 2.) The music program: each class (2 year old, 3 yr old and 4 yr olds) goes to a weekly music class, which is always so fun and creative! Music is a big part of the classroom time too. 3.) There's a big, colorful playroom for the kids to enjoy, and they go every day (unless the weather's nice enough to go outside on their playground). 4.) My husband and I really wanted to be a part of their education. By co-oping, we assisted the teacher (about once every 4-6 weeks). We got to see firsthand what our child's day was like, could get to know the other children and their parents, and could learn many tips on pre-schoolers. It was incredibly rewarding and fun! 5.) There are optional things, like Spanish classes (for 3 and 4 year olds) and "Discovery Days" (for 4 year olds only).

What a wonderful environment for a child to start his or her school days. The staff and teachers and all so warm and friendly with all of the kids. As parents in a coop, we get to be so involved and meet the other parents and children who our own kids are spending time with. Flexible programs and extras like music. The kids have such a great time and are learning something new everyday they spend here. I really can't say enough. Programs are for 2, 3 and 4 yr. olds. You must come check it out if you are looking. You may end up having so much fun yourself, you'll want to be there all the time too!

My daughter loves going to school here. It is a great start to the learning process. She asks me every morning if she gets to go to "my school" today. The projects she brings home are fun and educational. The cooperative environment means that I know what is going on and with whom she is spending her time. I've learned a few things too!

This is a wonderful nursery school. The staff and teachers are knowledgeable and welcoming. The facility is clean and child friendly. Cooperating in your child's classroom is a great way to see how they interact with others and how they learn. This is a family friendly school that gives your child a great learning foundation and a positive feeling about school.
