In August 2010 we went to The Door Store and placed an order for the Roma Storage bed. We were informed that all the furniture was made locally!! We were quite shocked at the reasonably priced "locally made furniture". We even made a comment and said how do you guys afford to sell locally made furniture at such a deal? We were told that their quantities are huge and that they often get a deal from suppliers. They also said that they were pleased to hear a customer say that their furniture was affordable. What a lie!!!! All boxes clearly indicate "Made In China". This ofcouse, we figured during the second round of delivery as during the first delivery, the boxes were destroyed outside our apt. The bed was delivered to us on the Friday, as per schedule. The bed arrives. Ofcourse, we paid for delivery and assembly. The 2 guys that come in to assemble the bed do their job. They were fairly efficient. We notice mold on the all the wood. The bed was poorly made. Paint was slopped all over raw wood inside!! We express our dissatisfaction to the delivery boys and they say, " this is how the beds are. Sometimes, moisture gets in the boxes and causes mold" That's not what we were wanting to hear after paying $1000. We ring customer service and bexpress our dissatisfaction. They have the bed collected and assure us that the delivery will be perfect the next time. They postponed the delivery . Apparently, the container that contained our original bed was returned to the supplier!! and finally we did receive the bed today. We realise that bed still arrives in a poor state. And all the cartons are clearly marked " Made In China". How gloriously can stores lie to sell anything?

In Aug 2009 I went to The Door Store for a new couch. I bought one and paid for it with my debit card that day and was told by the salesperson, who is also the store manager, that it would be delivered within 4-6 wks. After 5 wks I got a phone call from Anthony, the same man who sold me the couch that it would be another 3 wks before I would have the couch.I said ok. 4 wks later, still no couch. I took the liberty of calling the store, Anthony again apologized to me and said the couch would be delivered any day, I asked him to waive the delivery fee which he agreed to. Further, I asked if a refund would be possible if there was another delay to which he responded of course, again I asked him to please call me if he got anymore news. another two or so wks later, no couch I call the store to ask for a refund. Anthony cancels the order while I'm on the line and says I will have the check in 5-10 business days, that was the first wk of Oct. I've called numerous times since to check the status. Most recently, I called a wk and a half ago, Anthony said that he was looking at my info online, that he could see that the check had been disbursed and that I would have it by the end of the following wk(no later than Dec 10th). Today I went down to the store to check on things. Anthony was there, he remembered selling the couch to me, I gave him a recap of the past 5 months- ie. no couch, short almost $800. He responds that he would be happy to offer me store credit. I demand to know when I will be reimbursed, "unfortunately we are no longer offering refunds, the company folded last week and we are only doing store credit" Again, when I spoke to him the week prior he told me that the check had been mailed out. When I said this to him he simply repeated he would be happy to give me store credit. A little research online today and voila! When I bought the couch they new that they were bankrupt and continued the lie up until yesterday 12/15. They might as well have held me up at the ATM and robbed me of my money at gunpoint, same thing just would have saved me time and energy. DO NOT BY ANY MEANS SHOP HERE, YOU WILL SURELY MEET A SIMILAR FATE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF NEW YORK AND WITH NY1 IN ORDER FOR THEM TO INVESTIGATE I ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.

Pros: Not a thing...they dont even deserve a one star rating

Cons: All of it

Please read these reviews about the DOOR STORE furtniture before giving them your money.
They are filing Chapter 11 and will not refund anything you spend there.
I ordered a piece of furniture in August and was told that it would take 6 to 8 weeks for it to arrive. My credit card was charged the day of the order. I waited and on contacted them after 6 weeks and after 8 weeks to try to schedule delivery. They told me that the piece was not in and would be delivered in another two weeks.
After ten weeks, I asked for a refund. They said they would put it through and I would get a refund in the next few business days. That never happened and after 4 to 5 weeks, weekly phone calls, and varied stories about when I was going to get a refund, they finally informed me that they actually went bankrupt and filed Chapter 11 and that I will not be getting a refund.
Another company bought them and that company is offering a store credit to be used.
Well, there you are folks. Basically, the Door Store takes people's money, knowing they are bankrupt and never deliver. They use this money to pay off their debt as much as they can, file bankruptcy and then offer us poor customers a credit by which they can liquidate their inventory as much as possible.
THEY ARE ROBBING PEOPLE!!!!

Whatever you do, do not shop at The Door Store if you actually want to receive the furniture you purchase. I purchased furniture from the store 14 weeks ago and have yet to receive the furniture. I was told that all items were in stock except for the dining table, which was backordered 4-6 weeks. After 4 weeks I called to receive an estimate about when to expect delivery and was told that not only was the table backordered but the dressers were as well. I was told that the dressers would be in after Labor day and to call back then. I did, and was informed that they wouldn't be in until the end of September, along with the table. At that point I started calling every Friday, and each time the story changed depending on who answered the phone. On Sept. 25th I was told that the dressers and chairs were in and could be delivered, but the table now would not be in until the mid-October. I scheduled delivery of the dressers and chairs; however, when they arrived I realized that the dressers were not the ones I had ordered based on the description online. They were not available to view in the showroom, and I needed them to be a specific size to fit into the space available in my small apartment. I confirmed online that they were different than advertised, called customer service and was told to refuse delivery. Before the store had even called me back to discuss the issue they had changed the description and measurements online. Now I have four dining chairs, no table on which to serve meals, and am living out of suitcases.
After some discussions I arranged to exchange the dressers for ones that were in the showroom for viewing and would fit in my space. That was four weeks ago, Oct. 9th. I was told that they, surprise, were backordered 4-6 weeks. I called on Oct. 30th and was told the dressers and table would be in on Nov. 9th. I called again on Nov. 6th and was told that the dressers and table wouldn't be in at least until the last week of November.
At the time of purchase I was offered a 15% discount if I paid with a debit card, which I did. The Door Store cancellation policy is that after 48 hours of purchase a cancellation will not get you a refund; instead, you get store credit. And they take no responsibility at all for "vendor delays". Quite honestly, I am dumbfounded at how this company remains in business. They have taken over $1,800 of my money, in cash, and have not delivered on their end of the contract.
The bottom line here is do not go to this store, do not go to the Web site, and do not give them your money if you actually want to receive what you purchased.

The service you recieve at the store before you purchase is great until you pay for the item. Good luck after you pay for the item and than they deliver one piece at a time and cross your fingers that no merchandise is damaged. Service is key to Success but either Glenn ext 2165 or Diane ext 2108 gives a damn at 201.864.6669. So my advise to you is pay a little more to a company that will keep customers coming back!

My wife and I bought two lounge chairs. After expressing my concern about their delivery policy (we live in a co-op with a very strict delivery policy) the salesman assured me it was going to be speedy and to "think positive". We were apprehensive because we've run into problems before with deliveries from Macys's and Sears. After realizing that the delivery would be impossible because of our work schedules we decided to cancel the order. After reading the fine print in the contract we realized that there are no refunds after 48 hours, only store credit. Can you believe that? I get thirty days for any generic purchase but only 48 hrs for a purchase in the hundreds of dollars. We even went back to the store and spoke to one of their salesman but all he said was "We cannot do anything here at the store, you have to speak to customer service. You can also dispute the charge with you credit card company".

I called customer service and asked for my money back and the response was a definite NO. They were VERY unprofessional and even made snide remarks. What I relized is that once you sign a contract with this company is like signing your life away.

Buying furniture is a really big decision so be careful when you choose the store you're buying from but above all avoid the "Door Store" like the plague.

Pros: Decent furniture

Cons: Very rude customer service, no accountability.

Horrible customer service! Very aggressive tactics! They do not guarantee delivery time frame, God forbid you cancel the delivery, they charge you an extra fee and if you cancel the order you're stuck with a store credit good for a year!!!! The lock you in and they WON'T give your money back if you don't cancel within 48hours!!!! I've had such a hard time with their customer service...very very unhappy, will never shop again.

Much of the furniture here has that slightly tacky 80s look (but, you know, doesn't go far enough to classify as retro kitsch). But if you scout the entire store, there are definitely some finds--especially if you go during one of the sales. We bought a extendable dining room table and a couple of bed lamps for something like $600 total. Delivery was cheap, efficient and friendly.

Bought a TV stand on this store. The salesman told me it was going to be ready for delivery in 3 weeks, then at home I read the contract (the fine print) and surprise! delivery was scheduled for 5 weeks!! I ended waiting 2 months... I even forgot I order the TV stand since 2 months had passed I asked for my money back and the response was NO!!! they can't even tell you a specific date nor time for delivery. VERY unprofessional, they DO NOT even offer a discount for the trouble you have to pass.

"Door Store" is not cheap, therefore I thought I was doing business with professionals with some degree of accountability. I will never buy there again. If you are buying furniture consider other options.

Next to the 123 W 17TH St location, there is "West Elm" store, I'd rather buy there. Prices are around the same as "Door Store" but West Elm is incredibly customer friendly. Customer service is the best I have experienced. when I needed to return something, they sent a delivery guy to pick it up at no extra charge and gave me full credit in cash, not "in-store credit" as "Door Store".

Really furniture is very special and expensive, consider very well which vendor you chose and avoid "Door Store".
