Went here with the family for christmas dinner 2010. Family was there without us last year for christmas and found it to be pretty good. THIS YEAR WAS NOT THE CASE!! I ordered a drink from the drink menu and they told me after 20 min that they couldn't make it and order another. We got our drinks about 20min after that. But they forgot the lemonfor tea and had to be reminded 2 times to bring it. Then they tell me about 1/2 hour after we orderedthat they didn't have the SPECIAL I ordered. I said it was a SPECIAL!! Well I guess they're not doing it the waitress said. So I asked for the menu again and asked what they weren't doing. She didn't think it was funny. The calimari appitizer that took 2 hours to arrrive was over cooked and was unedible to me. My dinner was OK but my father-in-law's tuna was freezer burned and metalic tasting. Because they didn't have my first drink AND the dinner I ordered first I wondered if they would try to make it right by taking off the price of 1 of the 3 martini's I had. Waitress said the owner said no. The waitress said sorry EVERY TIME she came to the table, which wasn't often. Had to tell her to take the dirty plates that were piled on the table. 3hours total for dinner!! Will NEVER RETURN!

An absolute disgrace. I have no idea how the Harmony House (across the street) closed up shop before this hell hole. It really is a shame, and the chef is so abusive to his workers, one of whom I believe is his wife. . .tourists beware. Don't waste your money here. There are lots of better options in Cooperstown, not a few miles down the road! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

My friends and I decided to try this place a few months back. We were enticed by its cozy environment and location outside of the village. My friends and I are all strict vegetarians. We thought that since the place was named after a mushroom, they would have some vegetarian options. When we asked, the server seemed insulted and only offered us grilled vegetables and a plain pasta dish. We didn't actually eat there, but the owner and server were so rude, and we heard yelling coming from the kitchen, likely in response to our dietary restriction request.... keep your distance.

I stopped in for an early dinner on my company's dime. I didn't even pay for the slop I was served and I was still angered by this place. All I wanted was a different dinner because I found what I ordered was not good at all. I only took one bite but they wouldn't exchange it. Extremely bad customer service, I paid 30+ for a meal I didn't even eat. Asking for the manager worsened the situation. She made me feel like a criminal for requesting a different dinner. I've never been treated so rudely I will tell everyone I know / will meet in the future not to dine here. There's a reason the parking lot was empty ....

I stopped by this place in Mid October while on business. It seemed very nice and the service was quite good but there are clearly problems with this place. For starters, the prices are rather high for the quality and portions. Next, they are not flexible on anything. Last, and probably most disturbing was that you could hear violence coming from the kitchen! Our table was the first table near the kitchen door, but still I've never heard such awful language and bellowed at such a high volume. The lady that was serving us clearly takes a lot of abuse from the bastards in the kitchen. I don't know how they keep anyone on staff, let alone a client base. Definitely NOT what you want to be exposed to with young children when you go out for a nice meal, esp for the $100+ we spent for 4 (2 kids). Avoid if at all possible.

AWESOME !!!

My wife and I had dinner at the Portobello tonight and it was one of the best meals ever. We have eaten here many times and have always had great meals but tonight??s was the pinnacle of a great meal. With a top notch staff presenting multiple courses each one better that the last and OMG the bourbon sweet potatoes should be illegal. This was an absolute incredible dining experience, setting a bar that other restaurants will be measured by. Wonderful, bon apptit

My wife and I were visiting the Cooperstown area this past summer 2008 and we heard of Portabello's from word of mouth. We had heard mostly good things but bad things were said so we figured that we would give it a shot. Well what a waste of time and money! First of all, the food took a very long time to come out and when it did, the steak ($30+) was not cooked to a very specific medium that my wife requested, it was more than med. well done. The server did not return to the table for quite some and when she did, we could tell that she was not happy, she brought the entree back into the kitchen and we could hear the cook yelling at her for some reason. The cook is in charge of making the food NOT the server. I had a pasta and Shrimp dish that was not hot and i could tell that it had been sitting around for some time. I felt that it was over priced and too plain and boring. Overall we will most likely never go back to this restaurant for they charge way too much and a product that is not worth it!

Inedible food, RUDE service, Overpriced menu, Unreasonable owner. I am a retired Professor of the nearby SUNY Oneonta. I frequently dine out with friends and family at local restaurants and I have never experienced anything in this area close to the nightmare that is Portabello's. I was so unsatisfied with my main course (after a very inedible appetizer) that I tried to exchange it for something else. The waitress was rude about it but was willing to when the owner came over and personally denied my request. When asked why I was told that I got what I ordered and that I would pay for what I ordered. I would be suprised if a coonhound would have ate my Entre

Over the 5-6 years years that Portabello's has been open, we have dined there often. Our last experiencre in early October 2007 was very special., The ambiance was wonderful as usual, and the piano music of Tim Iversen was fabulous. After all this time, the Kantors are still committed to being open 365 days a year. The family is still dedicated to providing a fine dining experience. Now, they're seeking out diner's input with an in house survey. I asked my friends if it was my imagination-or was the food and service better than they remembered? We all believe that the food is better-and the service is always fine. It's nice to see the committment to the community and the dining experience continue. Hope the locals continue to support this Fly Creek gem.--We'll be back.

We went to this restaurant with friends shortly after they opened and I loved it. I had a lobster bisque which I still hold up as my standard of lobster bisque. My steak was wonderful. The service and setting were beyond reproach.
When we returned we brought another couple and told them all about the great restaurant we had found. The food was absolutely terrible. The service was poor, the meal inedible. I fed the leftovers me to my coonhound and she ate it , but without enthusiasm. I thought it may have been an off night, but I have spoken to a number of people since and have failed to find anyone to be happy with their experience. It appears they have no interest in preparing a satisfying meal.
