This is a restaurant that is close to my job. I have eaten here many
times. The food and service is great. I love their paella. There is live
music on weekends. It is a little expensive.

Nice decor, good appetizers, delicious sangria, but the paella, in my opinion, is more than worth the try. A little pricey, but if you can go during one of the entertainment evenings, definitely worth it. The restaurant is categorized as Mexican on this website, but it isn't. It's Spanish, from Spain.

Ole is a fun restaurant to have a bite to eat at - nice atmosphere, plenty of ambiance and a great waitstaff. The food is pretty good, but my favorite has to be the tapas. Just enough to fill you up without going overboard.

We had a little bit of everything- Beef and Spinach and Cheese Empenadas, Octopus, Cheese Platter, Scallops with the Manchego Cheese, Crab Croquette, Ropa Vieja and the Churasco with fried Yucca. I have to say everything was amazing but my favorites were the Octopus, Scallops, Ropa Vieja and especially the fried yucca. Everyone had a great time. The mojitos were delicious too! The wait staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. We will be back very soon!

Okay, the flamenco dancer on Wednesday night is something else. And by "something else" I mean that she's more of a stand-up comedian than a flamenco dancer. What we could understand cracked us up, and boy, did she love posing for pictures.

Anyway, back to the point...the restaurant has a Spanish side and a Cuban side (be advised that you can't sit on one side and order from the other side). We sat on the Spanish side and ordered Tortilla Espagnola, Crispy Calamari, and Ham Croquettes to start. They were all good and reminscent of Spanish tapas bars, but weren't necessarily memorable. We split the Mariscada al Ajillo as an entree. Again, good but not memorable. The sauce was lacking a little bit of zest, maybe more salt or butter would have done it some good. The Sangria was okay but not worthy of a second glass. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you really have a thing for flamenco dancers and are looking for something to do in Gramercy on a Wednesday night.

Pros: Flamenco dancer

Cons: Okay tapas and Spanish cuisine

We went to celebrate my son's 26th birthday today as he wanted to eat some good paella. We had mentioned Ole's but it had been at least 20 years since we had visited the restaurant...Well, the sangria was great (you can tell the fruit had been put to "soak" -the way it should be!) They had no problem accomodating paella for 5 as well as brought out a tapas sampler that was awesome! When they found out it was "the kid's" birthday, they brought out a flan with "Happy Birthday" spelled out in caramel!
Just as we were finishing up our expresso and cappucinos, they brought out a round of some delicious after dinner drink on the house..WOW! i know that we won't wait another 26 years before we repeat our visit!

I got a coupon for Ole and figured that I would give it a try. I mean how can one go wrong with some tapas and sangria? Well for small bites, the taste was incredibly disgusting. I went with a guy and ordered the calamari (that came over battered with flour and this gross sticky suspicious orange sauce), the grilled octopus (I think they grilled an old tire because that's how chewy they were), the mini crabcakes (which was all mushy in the middle and oozing like it was uncooked) and the chorizo (the only redeeming item to this meal though I think they bought it from an outside vendor which explains it). This meal was horrible and the result was the next morning when I got an unrequested enema from the dinner.

WELL to start we had reservations for 7:30 pm, we got there at 7:39 and the manager pretty much told us that we were extremely late and that's why they didn't have our table, even though it was Valentine's Day the manager's attitude was horrible. At our table we didn't get any bread until 30 minutes into the seating, which may I emphasize the waiter took really long to come to our table, about 20 minutes. We orderes and our food took about 1 hour to get it, after the long wait...the food was horrible, I could have got better tasting chicken in a local chinese take out spot. I would have to say it was the worst experience at a restaurant in my life, and I work at one so I know good service!

Waited 30 minutes for 7:30 reservations. When we approached the host, he gave a look of "we are really busy, patrons are not leaving. Table next to us was a chatty couple who already ate. We had to flag down a waiter just to place our order and had to ask for bread. Halfway through dinner, the chatting couples finally got their check. The service was just horrible, they made patrons wait as other chatted away The host spoke no more than 10 words to us the whole time we were waiting. The lovely coat check lady was the only one who made us feel wanted. From the looks of things, if you are a regular there you would definitely be greeted with a smile but for the passing diner, just keep on walking... I will never go back to Ole.

Had the shrimp and oyster appetizer - both were small portions and bland. The paella was runny and the service was ok. We will not go back.
