I bought three bikes from this shop and they are still as good as new today. I am very happy with the service I got and the bikes they have given me.

I pick up accessories here once in a while. It's not cheaper that it'll be online, but at least I get the satisfaction of supporting the local shop. Before I bought a floor pump from these guys, I used to use their air free air hose whenever I passed by. I see the local delivery guys using it too, so it's good they're in the neighborhood. Last year I had them put on an Xtracycle extension on a mountain bike, and they did the job well. I still haven't had any problems. It's a small shop without a lot of floor space, so it's not the place to go shopping if you want to see tons of bike models and sizes at once. I'd say most of the guys are helpful and friendly there, but if they are helping more than 2 customers or so, expect to wait your turn... or come back later. But that also means that once you do talk to one of the guys, they do give you a lot of help/undivided attention to make sure you get what you need.

I read the mostly poor reviews but figured I would still give them a try since they were close-ish to my house.\r

I was blown away by the service I received from Taj at Gotham Bikes. I started my search online, but the bike I wanted had to be ordered through the store. When I called and they didn't have the bike I thought I wanted available, Taj began guiding me through the process of purchasing the right bike for my husband. As a biking novice, it was incredibly helpful to have some one as patient and knowledgeable as Taj provide the information and advice I needed to make the right choice. I was on the line with him for a good 25 minutes and I never once felt rushed or pushed to purchase. It was awesome. If he hadn't been so helpful, I might have gone elsewhere, because I was pressed for time because it was a birthday gift and they seemed to be out of stock on quite a few models. But his expertise, kindness and customer service really made the difference. Taj hand-delivered the bike to Brooklyn and even helped me keep it a surprise by sneaking/delivering it down to our basement. You just don't find people this dedicated to customer service anymore. If you go to Gotham, Taj is your man. The best bicycle sales and service in town.

Cons: great online selection didn't translate in store

This is one of those places that makes you wonder why they are still in business. If you don't want to give your customer's the time of day, then what use are you. If I didn't need assistance I would just order online.

This place is way overprced. For components, expect to pay at least double. I went with a list of things I wanted to order, but I figured I'd get it through them and have them install it. First, gettting them to look the parts up in the computer was like asking to name their first born. How dare I. Onve they looked it up, the prices were almost double throught the only source they would check. I ended up ordering the parts myself and getting them installed by another bike shop. Saved hundreds of dollars.

Don't patronize this place. Maybe the owner will get the message and get employees who give a crap.

Pros: Good bikes

Cons: Expensive, bad customer service

So I had an accident on the West Side parkway and a different bike store told me my wheel was shot, had to be replaced/special ordered, and it would cost me 150 dollars. I called around looking for this "special" wheel and Gotham had it: but not only that, when I brought my bike to them, they WERE ABLE TO true the wheel (instead of replacing it) and charged me 20 bucks for it! Plus it took them a half hour on a very busy Saturday. Yay Gotham Bikes!

i started taking my bike to gotham because it's near my house, and who likes to walk your bike all the way across town to get it fixed? their only pro is proximity. the guys there rude and don't even know what they're doing. or they do and they just try to get you to spend more money... i had a flat tire that they supposedly fixed... changed the tube but didnt clear the obstruction, so i just got another flat. which they then recommended to me that i get a new tire (when it was their fault for not having cleaned out the obstruction). then after all of that, they returned the bike to me and the gears were all messed up! i have a three speed and first gear wouldnt stay put.. kept clicking into second. i took it back, they said they fixed it but they didnt. then they gave me the run-around again and told me that i needed new gears! in the end i called the lovely man from whom i bought the bicycle and he is fixing it all for me for a fraction of what gotham would charge.. and he also says that they had no idea what they were talking about. long story short- these guys are jerks and can't even fix a bike.

There are one or two decent workers there BUT the management is dishonorable and so is the owner. I sent him an email regarding a credit that they owed me and they NEVER even responded to me. How rude!

Cons: dishonest and overpriced

I had a problem with Gotham Bikes where I returned some merchandise and they gave me store credit. They said I did not need any receipt and that my credit amount would " stay in the system" . II didn't need anything for over 2 years and when I tried to get the credit they said they changed the system and that my credit was wiped out. I understand that it was a while before I used the credit but they wouldn't budge on even trying to work out anything and in essence said " screw yourself" . They really don't seem to care about trying to keep customers . When I asked how I could reach the owner the manager said he couldn't even reach him so I would have no luck. We tried to email anyway but got no response. In addition they said the system has been updated several times and several people had been screwed out of store credit. Their prices are exhorbitant anyway so it's just as well as I find somewhere else to go. Beware.

If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Pathetic, horrible bike shop. The service was an absolute joke, I waited around for 45 minutes, even attempting to flag people down, yet no one offered any help. Finally the one person who did offer to help appeared to know absolutely NOTHING about bikes, and I don't intend to be judgemental but...by the looks of the rest of the employees, overweight...I didn't imagine many of them rode bikes either. Not at all helpful, poor selection of bike accessories. Waste of time.

I've purchased a bike here and I've bought many accessories. I've also brought my old bike in for repairs and tune-ups. I never feel that the staff is ignoring me, they answer questions and are not pushy. I think all of the charges to repair have been relatively inexpensive for a nice manhattan bike shop.

They have a large inventory of bikes so if you are looking to buy you should be able to find something here. If you need a shop for repairs in lower manhattan, this is a good one.

Generally seem to be a very competent bike store, although my experience with them is limited. I will say though, that they can be very pushy on the sales. Stating that a pair of shoes or a jersey fits well, seems to be some kind of promise you are buying it. I do suspect they get more than their fair share of tire kickers however. But anyway, pushy sales is enough to keep me away and stick with my own LBS. But anyone looking for a good range of bikes or gear would do well to check this place out.

Went in on 5/6day of 5 boro bike tour, to replace flat that another firm had given me a defective tire on. Rode on 5/10, and inner tube was coming out took it back to them and they did cursory fix. Was at Vessey and Chambers and the inner tube was coming out again. Spoke to same employee that something else might be worong, and golly gee wiz I needed a new rim. Well that almost fixed everything except that the tire they installed was larger than previous tires and I had red deflector that was below the rear brake unit, and since they gave these larger tires the deflector housing was rubbing against the tire causing resisantance like a stationary bike.

EXTREMLY RUDE SERVICE! I came in for the first time ready to buy cycling shoes and I knew what kind of shoes I wanted. All I had to do was get my size and try them on to make sure they fit. Easy sale, right? Well, the whole time the salesperson gave me the attitude like it was a real chore to deal with customers, especialy on a slow Sunday in January. When they didn't have my size and color I asked if they could check their sister shop Toga if they had them there.....again, he acted like it was the most difficult thing to do. So when I asked where Toga was exactly on West End Ave in terms of cross streets so I could go buy the shoes, he said he didn't know and didn't bother to check nor tell me the nearest train shop. Ridiculous. By the way, it was the guy with glasses and tatoos who can't grasp simple customer service. And you wonder why, people would rather shop online instead of supporting their local bike shop.

These guys are good - if you're a pro. But for basic questions and to the uninitiated, they're not the most helpful, verging on rude. First time I went in the store, I got passed from guy to guy until I virtually had to beg someone for help. Second time, I wanted some replacement cleats for my shoes, they questioned me on my question 'Look don't make grey cleats' (err yes they do) then sold me the wrong ones.

Not helpful, not pleasant.

Gotham Bikes (and their sister store Toga Bikes) are the best bicycle shops in NYC. They have a great selection, their staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and their customer service is unparalleled. I bought my bike at Toga, which comes with a lifetime basic maintenance service at no charge, and Gotham honors that service as well. From time to time, I bring my bike into both shops to get a little tweaking here and there (i.e. changing out pedals), and they usually do it for free. The staff treats bicycling experts and beginners with the same respect and is never condescending

When my husband and I was looking for some bikes a few years ago, we purchased our bikes at Gotham. We ended up with Specialized Bikes and they were top knotch. They were very friendly and they had some previous year models on sale for excellent prices. Although they didn't have any specialized woman bikes on sale, I ended up with a mens bike which Gotham advised is really not a bad idea for a woman. They made the process simple and easy.

I originally bought my bike here and ever since then I've had few problems with the bike, but it's not really a big deal since these guys cover almost anything that's wrong with my bike. They fixed and readjusted my brakes and even helped me switch to mountain tires for free. I'd definitely recommend them. They also have specials monthly on bikes in the store, so check them out.

I've been to many bike shops but none have shown me more professionalism and service yet. The store is stocked up to the ceiling with cool stuff. The employees take their time with you. and If they're busy they told me multiple time they'll be right with me which makes me comfortable. My order came on time and the service was excellent. No one compares. Alot of shop in a little space in cozy Tribeca. I'll be back again.
