My husband and I go to Toyo regularly. They have a dinner box for $17 that includes soup, salad, shumai, california role and choice of 2 entrees. If that's too much food, the rest of their food is reasonably priced. Try the sukiyaki; a slightly addictive, sweet broth. We like the small touches like the free appetizer they never tell you about until after you've ordered (e.g., tempura white fish with spicey mayo sauce) and the boxed bubble gums (I haven't had them since I was a kid!) that come with the bill.

The service is friendly, not at all like Iron Sushi which is located across the street. If you're going to Iron Sushi and haven't tried Toyo, you need to give Toyo a go and judge for yourself! The decor could use an upgrade, but overall, Toyo's food is as good as Iron Sushi, the cost is about the same or cheaper, and the service is 10x better.

Pros: service, cost

Cons: decor

Amazing how whenever you want to go to a Chinese restaurant they have a name change right around tax time so you have no idea what the reason is but I would not go to a place that needs to change its name more than twice in one year.

My first sushi place in NYC and I was surprised that the menu does not offer sashimi dinners, instead, you have to buy each individual piece. Overall, the menu deserves more selection. Consequently, I would recommend this place for sushi beginners.

Pros: good service, inexpensive

Cons: sashimi a la carte

Although this place might not look like much, this is my FAVORITE neighborhood place with great quality sushi, good prices and wonderful service. This might not be the nobo or sushi of Gari experience but for it is a PERFECT place to get your casual sushi fix. I don't know how more people have not discovered this place. What they lack in ambience they more than make up for in food and price, etc.
