I enjoyed the cozy ambiance and paste entrees with my date. However, that was all detracted from by the less than helpful and arrogant servers. Took way too long to get our meals and drinks and I honestly can't see myself coming back here.

After my recent experience with the manager and the "bouncers" which I will document in a later comment - I would advise any one to frequent any one of the other numerous bars in the area. These people are real scum and just know that your $$ are going to people who really do not care about their repeat customers in any way.

I just recently ventured to Sutton Place for the first time since living in NYC for a few years. I really enjoyed myself. Its very low key and a great place to grab drinks with friends and chill. This may have been because it was a Wednesday night so I cannot speak for the atmosphere on the weekends. I recommend this place.

Recently ate at Sutton Place and the food was outstanding! Hats off to the chef!! It's too bad I had to wait so long to be seated, but the food made up for it! I will be going back again!

I found your establishment too expensive but I must compliment the food. Great pasta!!
Congratulations to the Chef. You are a great asset to the restaurant and hopefully they appreciate you.

We have been there several times and in the the past, the staff has been rude and disrespectful.

In the past 2 months, the food has gone from "eh, okay" to "AWESOME.". Was the chef changed? If so, COMPLIMENTS to the chef!! I think the management has changed also, as the place is more cozy and friendly. Great place for a date or even just to hang out with friends. Great place to meet new friends as well.

The atmosphere of the establishment is now one of the best in Manhattan and I HIGHLY recommend it....

I never usually write reviews but was surfing this sight and was extremely surprised by the amount of negative reviews. I work in at another bar a block away from Sutton and have gone there after work quite a few times. The bouncers and staff have been nothing but a pleasure, especially Bobby (a bartender) who often works the roof top or middle floor. The drinks are never lacking a substantial amount of alcohol. However I refuse to give five stars because I don't particularly find the crowd appealing.

Pros: BOBBY

Cons: The crowd

.

1) We walked in looking for our party and the person yelled at us and told us we couldn't stand where we were. We tell him what we are looking for and he could care less.

2) A staff member interrupted me while I was on the phone in a stairwell to tell me that he was sick of listening to my conversation and that I should be done and go away.

3) Staff constantly pushing you out of the way without saying excuse me.

4) Absurd bar prices on crappy drinks. When I saw the ridiculous bill, I undertipped and the bartender actually freaked out at me in front of the people that we were there with and would not accept my credit card until I made it more!

DON'T GO HERE!

Cons: ABSOLUTELY RUDE!!

Most of the honest reviews about this establishment are spot on. My experience: The "holier than thou" bouncers actually denied my friend entrance on a Thursday night because he was not wearing a collared shirt. He was still well dressed (nice jeans, shoes and a nice t-shirt), but that didn't seem to matter, even with a thinned out crowd. With all the other bar options on this stretch of 2nd avenue, this place shouldn't be picky about customer dress code. Especially when those customers are willing to spend money. Their loss, as we took our business to a more comfortable (and I'm sure just as fun) bar just a block away.
The only positive I can say is that on slow, quiet nights the staff working are actually personable and attentive.

boring crowd, horrible food, horribly expensive, bouncer (what? what kind of restuarant/bar needs a bouncer? it's just weird.)
the worst part...the drinks taste like rubbing alcohol yet they charge for top shelf liquor.
The service is terrible at best. Guess what waitress... you're a waitress!
...and the Worst Bar in Manhattan award goes to...Sutton Place

I stopped here almost every weekend over the summer and never had a problem. The crowd is always great, only downfall is that the rooftop gets pretty packed, but you have to expect that at a good bar.

I haven't been here in yrs as I surely surpass the age of the crowd. In general this was a good "meet-market" kind of place for young professionals after hours. The bouncers have notoriously always been jerks with arbitrary policies.

my boyfriend and i have gone here a few times and we have had mixed reactions. we usually have great fun wherever we go but last night started off poorly. the awful mean bartender in the corner was rude, rude rude. when we had enough of her we went to one of the other bartenders to get our bill and told her of our experience. she said her name was roxy (not sure if that was real) and she greatly made up for our bad experience. she apologized for her coworker (not that, that makes it better but it was nice) and she was sweet and fun. overall we ended up having a great nite just stay away from the mean woman in the corner because she was rude to everyone not just us. whats up with her?

What an attitude a female bartender in the roof top bar area had.. I guess she must have been having a bad day or something, then don't come to work for a bar where she has to face a number of customers. I could see her intentionally looking up and down without having any eye contact when taking and bringing our orders. When telling me how much the order was, she gave me a look of "don't order from me because I am in a bad mood now.." Gave her a tip but no word of "thanks." We ended up leaving this bar in half an hour and went to a neighborhood bar where live music was being played. The manager and employees including this rude bartender (I should have asked her name) at Sutton Place should know how one employee can completely ruin the reputation in an extremely short period of time.

I have NEVER been anywhere in Manhattan where I have been treated so poorly by the staff. In fact, this is the first time I have ever decided to write a review about my exeprience at a bar. I usually ignore staff with bad attitudes, but this time I was pretty taken aback. I have visited Sutton Place before and it was okay, so I'm not sure if it is new management or just a few really rude employees. When I complained to the manager, he didn't seem to care. I guess since they have lots of customers, they don't care if they loose any. Or maybe they just don't care to have minorities in their bar. Either way, I will never go back. I can't believe I was treated this way in Manhattan.

I have been living in NYC for 3 years, and I have never had as awful of an experience as I had at this place. It was not surprising to me that I immediately saw people writing on here to complain about the employees. I went on a Friday for happy hour and noticed a bad attitude from the minute I walked up to the door. The absolute worst part of the night was when one of the security physically took me and threw me out of the club for saying I was too drunk. I have never had a problem with any security, and I certainly was not too drunk to be there. I remember coming out of the bathroom and him sweeping over to (unfortunately literally) attack me. He took my arm and twisted my wrist until I thought it was going to break. Even when I told him, "you are literally going to break my wrist", he looked very pleased and twisted harder. The most upsetting part is that I honestly believe that I may have been profiled (for being gay), and this guy got a sick pleasure from kicking me out. I will be sure to let every respectable person know about this and know that they should avoid Sutton until it gets employees that aren't so bored and ignorant that they need to attack random patrons. *The rooftop wasn't even as great they say. Complete bust. Save your money (and your wrist)

Went late on a Saturday night. Drinks are more expensive on the roof, even though it's only a few floors up (nice to be able to sit down at one of the many tables) Crowded, especially on the roof. Bartenders were decent, not extra friendly or fast, but decent. Bitchy attitude and service from the waitresses (unreasonable to expect more at 2:30 am on a Saturday?.

I have been a regular customer until recently. The location and ambience is good in midtown east. But the waitress named "Frida" (This is the name she told us) is just crazy insane. Probably she was in bad mood and she just asked us to leave the bar without any reason. We are just drinking. And she tried to clean up the table, and we told her they are our glasses and still drinking. She just got upset and didn't admit her mistake and called security to leave us. That's so insane. Unfortunately she was just too stupid to take care of customers.. Not only that, the security guys named Joe told us "Don't come here any more." Can you believe it? That's so stupid. They just don't know who we are. The manager Freddie who listened to us has just vanished and made us wait over 20minutes, then didn't show up. No respect for customers. If you would like to drink happily, please avoid Joe-security, and Frida- blonde girl who are totally insane. This was the worst experience in NY in this 10years.

I went to this place the other night, after hearing about the "fabulous" roof bar. First of all the crowd sucked- it was a ton of cheesy bridge and tunnel, second of all I learned the drinks are more expensive on the roof, just because it's on the freaking roof...and then on top of it I ordered a Kettle One Martini(which I drink all the time) and it was disgusting. I don't know what they put in it, but it wasn't Kettle One. I think this place is very 1998 with 2007 prices and I wouldn't drink the Kettle.

Where else can you grab a beer outside and hang with upscale NYers that work hard all day and play hard all night. The bar staff is very friendly and serve up drinks very quickly. The location is central to all and has 3 levels; the 3rd level is an open rooftop terrace overlooking 2nd Ave and has views of many of New Yorks famous buildings like the Lipstick building and the Citibank tower. And who can forget all the TVs. I recently heard about this bar on TV and in the Newspapers and couldn't wait to check this place out. If you're new to New York and want a place with lots of space and sports, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!!

Pushy bouncers waisting time minding people's head gear (even when it is a fashion statement) instead of minding the drunken louts...rude and neglectful female bartenders (not even that hot!!) who give away their character for a few tips, while they entertain quasi-rich-looking frat boys instead of caring for other thirsty patrons.
Enter this place at your own risk, if nothing else is available. I forgot: it is reaaally expensive (or maybe the bartender overcharged me in her mediocrity).

Everyone is rude in this place from the bouncer at the door to the manager. The bouncer hurt my friend for no reason, simply because the bouncer didn't want her speaking on her cell phone near the door.

When she complained that he hurt her wrist, he said "so what", can you believe? When you pass near by this place run away as fast as you can.

Sutton Place is a GREAT BAR. It's a sports bar with good music, a great roof deck, and a great spot to throwback a few on a Thursday or Friday night and catch the games on Sunday. I have spent many good nights at Sutton Place, and the crowd is typically very friendly and social and there to hangout and drink and have a good time.

There are a lot of people that confuse Sutton Place with something other than what it is. It's not Chucky Cheese and it's not Pizza Hut and therefore not a place to bring your 3 month old son in a stroller on a Sunday afternoon, week 2 of the NFL season. I suggest to the guy who thinks that this is a good idea - spend more time evaluating your parenting skills and less time evaluating Sutton Place.

I have been going to Sutton Place every Sunday for three seasons of football, as well as many other times for various sporting events, to sit on the roof deck, etc. And here's why I'll never go back...My friend came to meet me (and some others) there for lunch yesterday with her young son in his stroller. She was not allowed even into the vestibule of the restaurant. Not only wouldn't the bouncer help her in the door, he looked at her with obvious contempt and told her that she wasn't allowed in with a stroller. Nevermind the fact that last season I was there on two seperate occasions when this same behemoth of a man let in another friend with her child in a stroller to eat lunch, as well as last Sunday when I saw two young girls and thier father eating lunch here. When we told him there was plenty of room by our table for the stroller, he then changed his mind and said that in fact the reason he wouldn't let her in was that they wouldn't allow babies. Clearly this is a man with a huge regard for consistency. Is it not called Sutton Place RESTAURANT and Bar? (In fact they advertise thier brunch specials) He was incredibly rude and dismissive, wouldn't allow us to speak to a manager and was obviously desperately trying to protect the place's image as a meat market den of discrimination, full of a bunch of pigs who can't get the girl on thier own so they have to oggle at and grope the trashy waitresses. Bottom line, it's beyond poor judgement at this point. The one thing this place seems to be consistent about is the fact that they are neanderthals. See ya never.

Pros: My team won two Sundays in a row

Cons: Boorish behavior on MANY levels. The place was getting a little B&T anyway...

.

I've been going to Sutton Place for years on a frequent basis including just about every Sunday during football season. I just had a work party there for about 50 people last thursday and tons of money was spent on a what would normally be an empty bar on a rainy thursday afternoon. One of numerous work parties i've thrown there over the years. So i think i've been a pretty good customer to them. A bunch of my friends were down there on Sunday as usual whatching football and my wife went down to meet everyone for lunch with my three month old son. The bouncer told her that she couldn't come into the bar. Then when she asked the disgusting rude fool why..... he said they don't allow strollers because it's a bar. When my wife asked if they were a restaurant he said no we are a bar. He then refused to allow her to speak with a manager. Unfortunately i wasn't there when all this happened but i will never step foot in that place again. Now don't get me wrong i'm not in the business of bringing my baby to bars but this was Sunday afternoon to meet some friends for lunch at was is clearly advertised as a Restaurant and Bar. It was also not that crowded with plenty of room for a stroller and she would never have gone in otherwise. There are plenty of other places in this city. I hope they get raped for every penny in their current legal situation. Maybe they should way their fat slob of a bouncer, he looks like he ate a couple waitresses.

Pros: I'm going to miss that Cheese Steak but i'll never go back

Cons: The bouncer on Sunday

I was there last weekend for Sunday football and had an awesome time. The bar offers lots of different games at once, on various TV's. It also has a wide selection of bar food. Perfect place to go for any game!

I was there last week on a sunny day and it was incredible. As a single guy, I must tell you this is the place to go to meet single women. My co-workers and I had a great time and the Bartenders were cool. I'll go back again and highly recommend it!

Pros: Great Rooftop, Lounge and wide selection of drinks/beer

Cons: Not cheap, but few places in Manhattan are

.

Pros: Outdoor Bar

Cons: Too many steps to get to roof; get an elevator!! :)

I usually only eat kosher foods but I saw someone order a bacon cheeseburger while I was sitting at the bar and I couldn't resist. Burger could be the best I ever had. If anyone is a baseball fan go to this bar, grab a seat at the bar in front of one of the TVs on the roof, and enjoy the last days of summer outside. Great bar!!

0- FOR THEIR APPALLING 'WEIGH-IN" PRACTICES! THIS PLACE HAS THEIR WAITRESSES GET ONTO SCALES ON A REGULAR BASIS TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T GAIN WEIGHT...AN UNBELIEVABLE SEXIST, DISCRIMATORY PRACTICE! ALL WOMEN, AND THE MEN WHO LOVE THEM SHOULD BOYCOTT THIS PLACE.

My bf was to meet me there early Thu evening for my coworker's farewell gathering. When he got there, he was denied entry b/c he wore a subtly printed t-shirt--nothing loud or obnoxious, just printed w/the name of a band. He flipped it over so the prints would not show, & still he was denied entry. We tried to convince the bouncer to let him in, but he won't budge & even used unnecessary profanity. There was really no need for it--we weren't violent or causing a scene. Mind you, this is not some upscale bar lounge--just a loud sports bar. I will make sure never to return & will tell my friends/family not to either. I say, skip it...there are plenty of other bars around.

went here with a friend two Sundays ago for brunch. The rooftop deck is a fantastic place to hang out in good weather. Unfortunately we waited for about 20 minutes after we were sat, watching the waitress chat with some of her other tables and never come anywhere near us. We finally left. Oh, and by the way....the hostess informed us that they only serve bloody mary's on Sundays. Only this place could manage to screw up what could be a huge money making outdoor brunch spot.

Pros: great outdoor space

Cons: nonexistent service, boring menu

Slow service and snotty poeple. There were no men at this bar just boys who look like they just turned of age. I am sure they are not proofing.

The roof bar is nice, and it's the only draw. This place is also relatively empty, I have yet to see one attractive girl in their, and usually after 1-2 drinks we're ready to leave and find a bar that sucks less. I don't know where the complaints about dress codes and yuppies come from. Everytime i've been there most of the crowd was poorly dressed and looked like trash, not yuppies. I would not go there except for 2-3 pre-game drinks on the roof before heading off somewhere fun

Been here before while wearing the requisite 'collared shirt'. Was meeting some friends there this past weekend but was wearing a t-shirt (more $ than the abercrombie/lacoste polos inside) but the tool of a bouncer said "you have to have a collared shirt to enter" - ha! What kind of BS is that? Since when do you need a collared shirt to get into a bar on frat boy row??? Oh well, their loss - not worth it...

This is the type of place that you would relax after work and loosen your tie with a cocktail in hand. The atmosphere is friendly and you feel welcome the moment you step inside. Parking isn't the best but if you work in the area its a great spot to unwind at the bar.

Great view, terrible prices and even worse service. If being around beautiful pretentious people is your thing, while being treated like dirt, then come here. Don't worry, there is a roof for you to leap from when you're tired of the place.

I have gone several times to the roof bar and ALWAYS have a great time. The crowd is good looking and yes PROFESSIONAL. This bar gets a wide age range of people depending on what time you go but it is definitely a fun place to meet and mingle with all types. As for the complaints that it's expensive, those are the same individuals that don't like people who have to wear a suit to work. It's no more expensive than any other place in NYC! If you want cheap beer in a 2 x 4 bar, there are plenty on 2nd avenue to go to.

A few weeks back, my friends and I were discussing some of the worst places we had ever gone to in NY. Eeveryone agreed that among the many East Side disaster sites, this place clearly takes the cake. The customers are bad enough but the employees are taken right from Real Life: Jersey Shore. In addition, their policies are absurd. Avoid at all costs.

I went there on a wed night to meet up with some friends around 1130 .I went in without any problems.Place was quiet since it was wed night.I went up on the terrace.Bottle of corona is 7 bucks.Nice view of manhattan from the terrace.Terrace is not as big as that of china clubs probably half the size. You can smoke upstairs but apparently not by the bar as per the bouncer.Staff didnt look all that friendly. It is an average bar if it was not for the terrace, they would be bankrupt.
