WORST VENUE I'VE EVER BEEN TO.

I traveled four hours to see Gogol Bordello play because they are definitely one of the best life acts I've seen EVER and ive seen them many times. Never have I had such a bad experience seeing them until i entered Northern Lights.

the show was a complete and utter disappointment- but not because of the band! it was the HORRENDOUS and what i consider DANGEROUS venue, because there where way too many people in there for a band notoriously known for getting the crowd pumped up.

they must have have booked that place at least 5 or 10x its capacity. people were being shoved around because everyone was trying to get to the front . it wasnt a normal mosh pit, it was just people swaying back and forth stomping on little girls like me. im 5'4" and 115 lbs. the concert goers kept trying to push their way to the front in giant blockades of huge men holding each other in chains. i saw about two or three men that had to be 200lbs getting smashed to the floor and they left after the first song and i heard them make a remark about how ridiculously overcrowded the venue was.

i tried to get out from the front row, because i was having an extreme asthma attack. luckily a girl there who was in with the band helped me jump the gate. next thing i know there is some bouncer grabbing me screaming "youre out of here!!!" when i was clearly unable to breathe. they took me out back and gave me a bottle of water, which was nice. but, when my boyfriend tried to get information as to where the f*** they took me he was shoved by the security as if he was trying to climb the fence which he WASNT and still received NO information AT ALL as to whether they kicked me out or where i was. i was scared out of my mind.

if it was not for the girl who was with the band who asked security what was going on after she saw my boyfriend being ignored, i truly feel as if he would have never been relayed any information as to my whereabouts.

this was a totally DREADFUL experience. gogol bordello is one of the best acts live EVER and i am so upset. we had to leave after only four songs, because from the door to the stage people were cramped together and i couldn't even hear the band because the acoustics were so horrible unless you were in the pit getting annihilated by the "moshers" who werent even moshing. i felt like i was just being attacked!!!

if i could I would give this venue A RATING OF ZERO because they clearly do not care about the safety of the concert goers unless you are "with the band" or a hot chick. they need to limit their max capacity ten fold.

i have been to many shows before and i must say this was the worst show ive ever been to solely because of the venue- and thats pretty bad coming from an avid concert goer and extreme fan of punk and gogol bordello in general. i am not new to slam dancing or mosh pits at all. this was just CHAOS which was solely due to the venue being overcrowded.

the girl also was able to get me three free tickets to see peter murphy (lead singer of bauhaus) who i also love. as big as a peter murphy fan that i am, i'd rather throw those tix in the garbage than subject myself or anyone else for that matter to that bullsh*t venue.

Northern Lights gets excellent points for bringing a lot of varied music to our region. Always had easy ticket purchasing experiences by phone without overkill handling charges.

Huge problem is non-existent acoustics. Black painted steel ceilings and girders just don't cut it if your after a great musical experience listening to your favorite band Then if the sound guy is off the mark that night, earplugs or a spot near the doors is recommended.
I recognize the place might be a real challenge to an acoustics specialist, but it seems that option has been completely disregarded by Northern Lights management.

Then add to lousy acoustics an expensive bar experience - $6 (last time I went) cocktails in 10oz. plastic cups filled with ice. That equals four sips at best! All the friendly bar staff in the world can't make up for the hit your pocket takes if you want to drink!!

Bottom line, regular attendance is off my list. I will only
attend one of my "must see" shows when it's booked at Northern Lights. As an avid live music lover, I really hate feeling this way, but years of experiences at Northern Lights has cemented this attitude. Instead of opening up that extra room, you should have put the money into acoustical evaluation!

Excellent venue, bar, staff! Take the time to put on big shows but also host the small locals. Great!!!

I saw a show there about a week ago. The show was sold out so it was really packed and hot. The stage isnt very high so i could'nt see anything unless i was on my tip toes. I had been there about a year ago and that show was not nearly as packed and it was a lot better. So, if the shows not too packed, you'll have a good time.

PROS: nice bar, pretty clean
CONS: gets really hot at shows, sold out shows arent as fun

This is another place that friends and I meet up at during the weekend. The food and drinks here are great and the place is always clean and full of people.
The employees are nice and quick to getting your drinks.

PROS: Fun hangout, clean
