I went to the Comic Strip Last week for a friends Birthday. We went on a Friday Night because somebody reccomened we watch Chuck Nice. He was the last comedian to go up. As soon as he started talking he had me cracking up, I almost forgot to pay the bill.
We had such a good time! I havent laughed that hard in a long time. We were seated in the front, so our table got joked on a couple of times. But thats what made it better...

Drinks are a bit pricey but they were strong-at least.

I definitely would come back again!

Sitting in my lady's lap is not my idea of a fun night. I respect a hustle and and all, but the joint is waaay too small!

We purchased our tickets earlier in the day for the 8:30 show on a Thursday. We understood that in addition to our ticket price, we would be required to purchase at lease $20 in drinks per person. Having read the positive reviews, we decided it would be worth it.

We showed up at 8:00 for our 8:30 show and were told the show had been moved to 9:00. We returned at 8:55 to find a long line outside (in the cold). We went inside to make sure the line was for ticket holders and were told there was a benefit that was ending and we would need to stand outside. After several minutes, there was no indication the benefit party was leaving and it was already 9:00.

We spoke to the same lady both times we walked inside and she was impolite and certainly was not concerned about the inconvenience of moving the show time and then asking ticket holders to wait outside for a show that would begin even later than announced.

We decided it wasn't worth waiting in the cold to spend another $40 in drinks so we left. We probably missed a good show but the lady at the desk in the front needs to be replaced!

Came here with some friends expecting good laughs, however, got a rude awakening by racist jokes. Worse, there is a 2 drink minimum and food doesn't count towards it. Even worse, you are literally sitting on your friends lap because they pack so many people into one show. If you want to feel like cattle, come here. If you want some real funny jokes and a genuinely good time, then go to the UCB.

We bought tickets in Times Square, and the salesperson never disclosed that we had to buy to $10.00 drinks for each person attending. So in addition to the 40 We spent on the tickets, there was another 80 that needed to be spent. Any place that lowers itself to such sales tactics in not worthy of my business. It does state it on the back of the ticket but it was never disclosed to us in any way. Well I hope they got a laugh out of this but I think your place sucks. Looks like the customer service there is mediocre at best. Just my two cents worth.

Pros: Very funny

Cons: A little small

Most of the crowd was drunk and out of control with a lot of gangsta-types People were throwing up in the bathroom! The comedians were mostly bad and kept screaming at the crowd to shut up. Everyone was seated elbow to elbow (literally). Does the fire dept know about this place? The prices of the drinks were out of control compared to any comedy club we've been to. $13 for a shot? You've got to be kidding me. All in all, the worst comedy club experience of our lives!

It's a little cozy, BUT you get a great view of whoever is on stage no matter where you sit! and there's a two drink minimum, but it's a comedy club. What would you expect?

We went a few days ago and saw nine great comics; seriously, there wasn't a weak link in the bunch. Most of the comics were ones we were already familiar with via Last Comic Standing or VH-1's bevy of talking heads shows. We got our tickets and made our reservation--you need both for weekend shows.

Basically, we laughed our asses off. And, really, asses are overrated anyway!

Definitely go on a night with a large line-up, go early if you want a seat close to the stage, and definitely stay the main set ends as occasionally they bring on random newbies for short ""test"" sets which is cool to see, its always important to support those young aspiring comics after all!!

Pros: Laughed a TON!

.

I went to th Comic Stip a few weeks ago. The show was pretty good, even though $20 entrance and $20 drink minimum was a little expensive.\r
\r
I provided my name and email address for them to keep me updated on theirs shows and special promotion.\r
\r
Here is the horror story: the lady from the club called and asked me to give her my address so she can send me some promotional tickets. She said she can email it to me, but she needs the address. I said that I am moving soon and I don't have a definite address yet. She said ""ARE YOU MOVING IN THE NEXT TWO MINUTES?"" very sarcastically. The whole tone of her conversation with me was very mean and sarcastic. LIke ""GIVE ME YOUR ADRESS!""\r
\r
Well, I liked the club. I was going to go out there more with my friends. But, guess what, lady. You can send those promotional tickets to somebody else.\r
\r
I hope the management will read this review and train your staff better.

Pros: strong drinks

Cons: overpriced

The show SUCKED !!!!!!!!!!!!! Many comics seemed like they hadn't ever been on stage before! Especially annoying because when I made our reservation, I asked who was on the show and they told me the comics all had tv credits. The waitress had major attitude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. The outrageously high prices make you feel like they have their hand in your wallet to get ALL of your money because they know you are never coming back any way.

Since we discovered Comic Strip Live a couple of years ago through some friends, we used to go all the time and always saw incredible shows with a level of comedians second to none. I write ""used to"" becasue after the last couiple of visits, we have seen such a huge decline in the quality of the shows that we decided to try some other clubs that we've been hearing good things about. I don't know what happened, maybe the person who picks the comedians left to go to another club or maybe the club is under new owndership but there's definitely a noticable difference. Even the friends who recommended the club to us agreed and they don't go there any more either. There's a slim chance we might wait another year and try Comic Strip Live again but probably not.\r

I went to see a 10:30 show a couple of fridays ago with my girls. One of my friends Loves live comic, me on the other hand never cared so much. I'm so glad she talked me into going because we had such a great time. The comics were all funny but James Smith had me laughing my A$$ off. Our drinks were a bit strong, and thats the way I like it, was worth every penny. \r
\r
I want to go again with a group of frinds. Hopefully soon!

Pros: Funny Comedians

I love going to comedy clubs and this was the only one in the city I hadn't been to. We went Saturday night. Let me start with the positive. The entire staff was friendly and efficient. Now the negative. Aside from last comedian, the show wasn't funny at all. Also, the prices are insane! I usually don't mind every comedy club's two drink minimum policy, except when I'm paying the same price for a drink as what I'd pay for an entree in a nice restaurant. Add the pricey cover charge and you have one of, if not the most expensive comedy clubs in the city.

Some friends recommended this club, and am so happy I went with them. From the time we walked in until we left, the energy of this club was fun. I am a fan of stand up comedy, and the comics had me in tears (of laughter), the host was pleasant, my waitress was great. and my drinks were delicious. Like most of the comedy clubs I've been to in the city, the prices are a bit higher than a just a regular bar, but for the performances I saw, it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to go back.

Pros: great comedy, good service, strong and yummy drinks

Cons: few street parking; gotta park in one of the garages nearby

.

When we arrived, they didn't have a place for us to wait inside prior to the show, so we had to wait outside on the street and when it's freezing out like like it's been lately- or raining out, it's NOT a fun way to start your evening. They line you up as they file you into a small room. They cram you in like sardines into your table. We were seated with others at our table. \r
\r
We thought we got a good deal when we bought our tickets from a guy on the street in Times Square for $10 instead of the usual $25 per person. That's how they get you- they sell you discounted tickets then pick your pocket with obscene prices for food and drinks. The drinks were around $14-$15 each and there's ALWAYS a 2 drink minimum per person. Sodas were $10 each. Nachos which were only a couple of handfuls of stale chips w/ canned sauce heated up at the bar like in a movie theater were $14 & the room temperature small pizza (for one person) was $17. \r
\r
There were 5 comedians. The first three were average at best. One did jokes we had all heard via those joke emails that are forwarded from your friends. Another did a lot of audience work where the butt of his jokes were the audience members. Neither we nor the audience liked the first three very much. The last two were funny.\r
\r
The bill for the 4 of us was $250 (w/ tip but without the usual $25 cover charge per person because, as mentioned earlier, we bought our 4 discounted tickets for $40 on the street). Adding in the cost of the discounted tickets the cost was $290 and without those tickets it would have been $350 !!!\r
\r
The next day, my friend asked me why we didn't go to the Comedy Cellar because they are known to have the best comedians in the city (and country) and the prices are 1/3 of what we paid here. Plus, just in the last year he's seen Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Ray Romano & Dave Chappelle at the Comedy Cellar! Boy, do I wish I had spoken to my friend before we went here !!!\r

Pros: I'll have to get back to you when I think of any

Cons: I saw a few in the audience

.

OMG!! This place was GREAT. A couple of friends took me for my birthday last weekend. I had a ball. First of all the drinks are huge and strong. When I saw the price I kind of freaked out, but after having it, I was very satisfied! We had soo much fun. The comedians were great. My favorite was the host Ray Ellin. He is the greatest. There wasn't one dull moment during the show. My girlfriend almost pis**d her pants...lol. We are definately going back for my sister's birthday. GOOD TIMES!!!

THE WORST COMEDY CLUB WE EVER WENT TO!!! To top it off- there was a large table of loud drunks that kept heckling throughout the show but no one from the club said anything to them !!! They completely wrecked the already lackluster show for everyone in the audience. Some people walked out in disgust half way through the show.\r
\r
To make matters even worse, (hard to believe that could happen) the drink and food prices were unbelievably high. They tell you when you make a reservation that there's a 2 drink minimum but two of my friends who don't drink, had only a couple of sodas and they charged them $20 each because what they don't tell you is that there's actually a $20 drink minimum per person (on top of the already high cover charge) ! When I inquired, they said the average drink price is $15 each (whoa!) so when you order 2 alcoholic drinks you would automatically reach the $20 minimum but with non-alcoholic drinks, everyone gets charged $20 whether you have 2 sodas, 2 coffees or 2 juices!!! Unbelievable! When we tried to explain to the waitress that no one told us that before receiving the check, she said ""you must be from a small town and not know how the big city works"". I then informed her I was born in NYC and she said ""then you must just be cheap"". Everyone at our table was blown away! BTW- our check for 5 people (without a tip, of course) was over $300 and none of us had more than 2 drinks each!!! Needless to say, none of would ever step foot in that club again. We recommend you do the same.

When we tried to explain to the waitress that no one told us that before receiving the check, she said "you must be from a small town and not know how the big city works". I then informed her I was born in NYC and she said "then I must just be cheap". Everyone at our table was blown away! BTW- our check for 5 people (without a tip, of course) was over $300 and none of us had more than 2 drinks each!!! Needless to say, none of would ever step foot in that club again. We recommend you do the same.

We just checked out the Comic Strip Live on the upper East side and would NEVER go there again! The place was dirty (our glasses had either lipstick or gunk on them), the drinks were INSANELY high priced and the show was SO NOT FUNNY with comedians that chose excessive vulgarity and taking mean shots at the audience over simply being funny. Wow what a total waste of an evening!!!!!!!!!

After I heard good things about it, I want to see if it was really that good. The drinks were expensive ( beer-$10, coctails $12 or $13) , there was barely any alcohol in the drinks, the place was crampted, no lounge area, the seats were uncomfortable, most comedians were average. The best one was JJ Ramirez, he was the only one who made me laugh seriously & the audience loced him. The worst comedian was Paul Mercurio, he may have won an emmy, but he wasn't funny AT ALL . He made me yawn, very boring. Anyways, not worth the money . I'm pretty sure there are better clubs out there that charge less for the same quality, and just because famous comedians came out of there, doesn't mean the club was good, but rather the comedians.

I brought some friends there and I have to say that were all left avid fans of this place. It sets a standard when it comes to comedy and comedy clubs. The best comedy joint that I`ve ben to so far ! The night that we were there Pete Correlle was there getting preped for his hour long comedy central recording. Top peformance by the guy along with all the other comics. keep us laughing !

Been here a few times, mostly on weekends and always had a great time. Weekends are packed (like most places!) so make sure you have reservations and GET THERE EARLY! The food is good but more along the lines of snacking, definitely not a dinner. Drink prices are high but HELLO it's Manhattan! I dare those other reviewers to find cheaper drinks at any other club or restaurant (not just a bar!). 9 times out of 10 the comics are hilarious and leave you holding your sides. Plus it's really cool to see people in person that you've seen on tv (whether they're super famous or just getting known). All the workers I've come in contact with have always been nice and helpful. I tell everyone I know to come here for a good time when they're at a loss for something to do. Awesome club, awesome time...two thumbs up!!!!

I have been to many comedy clubs in New York and in Florida. The Comic Strip Live is by far the best!!! The service was great and it's definitely an experience like none other. The staff was very friendly. Not to mention the Chinese food was delicious. Our drink orders arrived very quickly. Let's not forget about the comedians...I laughed my a$$ off the whole time and didn't dare miss a word they said. If you are in New York, I highly recommend going to the Comic Strip...You don't know what you will be missing.

In a world where laughs are needed more now than ever, Comic Strip Live delivers every time. It's definitely the place where you can go to forget about everything, enjoy a nice drink (actually 2 nice drinks), get a quick bite to eat and laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh. The laughs are good for the soul and it's much cheaper than Prozac!

I took my wife here for our 6 year anniversary. We came on a Thursday night to avoid a busy night and it turned out to be packed. The following combination made my anniversary perfect: great comedians, great food, strong drinks and a candle light table. The waitress gave my wife a rose and told her it was from me. I've never seen anything like this and that made my night end on the most perfect note. Thank you Comic Strip for a great night- My wife and I plan on coming back every year for our anniversary.

I went here last weekend and it was hilarious!! I've been to the comedy cellar too but this place was a million times better. The host was sooo funny! The only downside is that for a couple of 2 you aren't going to walk out spending less than $80...it's worth it though!!

Went to the Comic Strip earlier this month and Chris Rock performed! It was amazing. We were sitting right up front. My friends and I had a great time. All the other comedians were extremely funny, as well. And our waitress was friendly and got all our crazy drink orders right. Will definitely be going back!

We always have a blast when we go to the Strip (as they call it). The reviewer below must have gone to another club by mistake because his description sounded nothing like the Strip. This club is famous- it's the club where Chris rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Lisa Lampaneli and many others got their start her. It it the quintescential new york comedy club and the acts are always at the top of their game. Plus, this club always plays professional acts all the time. Some clubs put amateurs on, but not the renowned Comic Strip. I've said enough- GO it's the best comedy club in the city. Wew found the Strip years ago by asking a few bartenders what the best comedy club in the cuty was and the concencous is the Strip (All but one said the Strip) so be ready for one of the best comedy shows of your life.

After having a week from hell I NEEDED to laugh. The Comic Strip gave me just what I needed. I laughed the entire time I was there and forgot about my week, even the waitress was funny- I went by myself and didn't feel strange. The entire experience was very comfortable and I look forward to going back. I recommend to everybody-

I went to the Comic Strip for a 10:30 show on a Saturday night and I wish I would have stayed home & saved my $$$$. The cover is $20 and there's a 2 drink minimum which doesn't seem so bad until you see the menu and the beers are $10!!! Even in NYC that's a bit high. And when we got our bill we were charged tax on the cover charge!!! Who does that?!?!?!? It's even rare to be charged tax on drinks in a bar.\r
\r
The Comedians were okay, but the staff was rude and pushy from the moment we walked through the door. If you're looking for a few laughs DO NOT come here, there are many other comedy shows in town.

Unfortunately I cannot review the comedy show at Comic Strip Live because I never received the tickets I purchased online in December and was charged $54.00 for. \r
\r
I patiently waited about a month after the online purchase, then called and emailed the Comic Strip to let them know there was a problem. I was treated with very little respect - put on hold for a long time, then told to call back, told I would receive a call back, etc. I never did, and I never received the tickets. To add insult to injury, they still send me their newsletter, constantly reminding me of the $54 that went down the drain. This was supposed to be a Christmas present for my boyfriend, and it is very upsetting that Comic Strip never took responsibility for this.\r
\r
I NEVER write on websites like this and I really try to be fair and give clubs and restaurants the benefit of the doubt when service is bad, but this is truly unacceptable. I emailed them again today and doubt I will receive a response.

I went on a Thursday night to see a Latino Comedy Show. Was HILARIOUS. The place is a little small, as most comedy clubs are, and the food can be a little on the expensive side but all in all I had a great time!

Arrived for an 8:30 show around 8:15, packed into a small room and it was not until 8:45 when the early show customers had finally left. One gentleman in line got physically sick and ran out the door because of the heat & the way they packed people in the waiting room. Sat down around 8:45 and saw the menu. $10.00 for a Budweiser (or any other beer). This was not mentioned by the promoters in midtown that sold us the ticket. If you don't want to pay 10$/beer there is a 2 drink minimum so you can just spend an extra 20$ a person on water or soda if you like. Servers were rude and pushy. My advice is to go if you know there is a good comic you want to see, otherwise avoid at all costs. Blockheads across the street is a pretty good place to chill and has $3.50 margaritas, so go there before/after the show.

After she uses it I am sure to have an easy work day ;-p\r

Went here last night and finally got out of there after 3.5 hours of torture. The first 1.5 hours were funny, but LEAVE before the amature acts. The thing is they won't say when they start, so you stay and as people leave they are called out by the ""comedians"" for doing so. We stayed to the end because (1) there were only 6 people in the audience and (2) they kept saying there was only ONE more comedian to go - in fact they kept coming and coming to torture us. The ""comedians"" got worse and we felt conned into staying to listen to their gripes. At least the bar could have given us beers for staying, but NO, they closed and said we had to leave, which we were happy to do. Those morons just never stopped coming on stage.. it was one long pity party.

Put your prejudices away and let a comedian dictate what it is you're about while he/she blasts away at all things familiar to you. Its a hoot of a good time and while the cover and drink minimum is annoying, the semi-touristy spot is a good departure from the normal NYC evening out. There is also no guarantee that you'll be able to get in on the same night, best recommended you get passes ahead of time.

There are more pros than cons to Comic Strip Live since I've seen some great comedians at this spot. They give you your money's worth with regard to the number and quality of performers. Although bigger than a few of the other clubs I've been to, the way the chairs are situated still makes for a tight squeeze. It's hard to get in and out if you choose to get up for any reason, so I suggest you use the bathroom before the show starts, but don't expect space in there either. The drinks are OK (small) and I guess about average price for NY. I've never eaten the food but it did look edible.

So far every experience there has been a good one so I definitely recommend this place...but be prepared to spend a few dollars if you don't have a discount pass.
