Despicable Service!

by Deborah J.

I called in an order for delivery at 10:45pm at 11:01pm I called back to have 2 diet cokes added to my order; they refused to add the diet cokes saying the kitchen is closed and hung up on me. When I called back they hung up on me again, and did not deliver my food.

Good Chinese

by Susan C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,806

This is a very good chinese restaurant on the upper east side/midtown border. They have a wide selection of dishes which have all been very good when I've gone. It gets crowded around dinner time so you might have to wait

BEST DUMPLINGS ANYWHERE!

by awu123

This place has the best dumplings anywhere hands down. I recently was there and they had the soup dumplings that are so prevalent down in Chinatown. But sorry, I gotta say that CF is the winner. Sorry Joe's Shanghai. CF's dumplings are not as greasy and offers an explosion of clean flavored soup in their soup dumplings. When you press your lips together after the finish, there's no sticky after feel....the best!

Pros: Great Food

Cons: None

poor service, bad food, expensive and with no hygiene standards.

by mat624

I just came back from China Fun and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Firstly, as it is typical of take-away, the food is over seasoned and too salty, I suspect this is the result of using MSG: the Kung-Pao chicken was the worst I ever had in my life.
Secondly the hygiene: while we were waiting for our food one of the waiters took off his shoes and put them on the desk near the chopsticks, how disgusting. I would have assumed that the manager would have shouted at him right away, but no!.. at one point they were looking at and touching the shoe at the same time, probably because it had a broken sole.
Lastly, it is quite expensive for this kind of food and the horrible service.

Overall I wish I had gone to Panda Express, which is much better, cleaner, and it costs a third of the price. Alas there are no Panda Express left in NYC.

Jacked up prices!

by jackryan

This place jacked up their prices after they redid the rest. Some dishes as much as 4 bucks. The portions aren't the best and are heavily in salt. I order take out from time to time but they treat you like viet cong sometimes and are very abrasive.

Cons: You leave NOW

Horrible, Horrible Food

by frische

Honestly, the worst food I've had in my life. They are right around the corner from me and I have tried them on a few occasions over the span of many years. On each of those occasions I am reminded of the poor quality food they serve. Recently I had a delivery for dinner and have now officially sworn off China Fun for good. I don't care how cheap or convenient they are...nothing edible should taste that bad.

Awesome!

by gracev

We visited China Fun on a recent trip to NY & loved it. Great value for familes.
Service was prompt & efficient. Food was delicious. We have 3 kids & usually one is disappointed--but not this time--it was great!
The waitress suggested that our kids share an order of fried rice--which we appreciated--its no fun to have a ton of left-overs when you are traveling.
We loved this place so much we actually ate here twice in one week!

Pros: Great food/prices

Still the Place for Shrimp Dumplings

by greenlant

This place still has the best crystal shrimp dumplings. I used to take my daughter to the 65th street location and split four orders between the two of us, washed down with soda and tea. The food is still the same--great, but the servers can brush up a little more on their english.

Terribly rude service, took 90 min to deliver food

by scuppie75

Took over 90 min to deliver the food. The first time I call after 45 min to check on the food they yelled at me for giving them the wrong phone number. I gave them the number and address again. 45 min later the delivery man finally showed up and he had the wrong address written down! They mess up the phone number once, then the address the second time, and they have the nerve to yell at me about it! Completely unacceptable.

Cons: TERRIBLE RUDE SERVICE

That red bean bun is no joke

by erino3120

I don't really like Chinese food, but their lo mein is the best I've had in the city so far, their steamed veggie dumplings are excellent, and I crave their red bean bun at least 4 times a day. I'm really excited to try the scallion pancakes tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

Pros: food is great

Cons: don't have any

My family and I have been coming to this staple on the upper eastside for the past 15 years and the food has always been consistently outstanding and the place absolutely immaculate. In short, we love this place no matter what anybody says!!!! I'm living proof that at 30 years young and having run my 5th marathon, the food at this place is good for yah!

Pros: The Best Chinese Food, Tasty and Nutritious

Cons: Not Enough China Funs in the City

Great food, better eat in a hurry!

by thedoylet

Chew fast? You will. China Fun practically escorts you out of your seat before you've finished your plate. The food is GREAT, but it is very busy and you are constantly reminded that someone else needs the table. All in all, a good place if you want great Chinese food-and don't want to make conversation. You won't have time to!!

Pros: Great food, prime location

Cons: You are made to feel like you have to hurry up

Live Maine Lobsters Rule!

by moms

The lobsters at this place is the freshest I've had in a very, very long time. They keep it in a tank in the back of the dining room and scoop them out to order. The meat was succulent and buttery, not like the watery creatures off the LI Shore I've had in some other Chinese places on the UES.

Pros: Deliciously Fresh Food

Cons: Crowded

A bit of China Town Uptown

by wardog1210

China Fun located in the residential 60s neighborhood is a change of pace from the other restaurants in the surrounding area. It almost feels as if you have entered another one of the hundreds of restaurants down in China Town. The food is pretty good but nothing exceptional. They offer both standard Chinese food as well as Sushi. Check the back pages of the menu for more healthy options. This place is always busy in the evenings. Due to their turnover, there is a lot of staff hustling around the tight seated space, but service is still somewhat slow. Try the vegetable dumplings for an appetizer!

Pros: decent chinese uptown, Chinese and Sushi, Inexpensive

Cons: Slow service

Need more staff

by fipper

the service was horrible at this place! our water glasses never got filled; ask for extra duck sauce and never came; removing our plates before we were done. table next to ours: "i asked for green tea and you gave me black tea" "WE ONLY HAVE 1 KIND OF TEA! WE DON'T HAVE GREEN TEA!!!" I can't blame the waitstaff because they were too few of them doing too much. hence, the bad attitudes and slow service. Food was just OK, my dish was a bit salty and my scallion pancakes were overcooked.

Pros: cheap food, good veg. dumplings

Cons: poor service, poor communication

Trucks!

My lunch on a Friday lunchtime was marred by continual truck traffic on 2nd avenue - - both noise and exaust. Food was so-so at best.

Big Fun

by lancemanhattan

Listen, Its not the top of the line China, but for pound for pound , it really good. Big portions of soup and main dishes help you out while the decor is pretty drab. However when you get your check, you'll be pleasantly surrised you only paid $20/pp and got such a great meal.

Chinatown Happy Ending

by ruscitob

Ipecac with rice and noodles. Just rifle through trash cans outside and I guarantee it will have more nourishment and taste. The decor is dreadful, and reminded me of a Chinatown Happy Ending Parlor, if you know what I mean.

Good value

by mayflower100

I doubt that China Fun could thriive in Chinatown. But in midtown Manhattan, it is quite good for a fast lunch. The price is good, service is fast, and the dishes are sometimes too salty but sometimes flavored right. The roasted duck noodle soup is nicely done.

Pros: inexpensive
