Beware getting your Subaru fixed and LOW trade in values.
They're ok for buying new but the service and repair guys try and scare you to sell you more stuff. Always get a second opinion and get as much done as you can somewhere else. I have a leak in the head gasket - which is a design problem that Subaru knows about. Van B has blamed NY weather and my lack of getting their 60k mile service (but I've had everything else and maintenance is great overall). Anyway, for a 2003 outback with 83k miles they gave me a trade in value of $800...Edmunds gives a rough quality Outback of that year and mileage an $4k value.

I am very dissatisfied with their service.

I bought a new 2003 Outback from van Bortel and have had to deal with them for the usual leaking head gasket issue. This is a pricey fix and a known issue which Subaru will help with ONLY if you have been to the dealer for all the required maintenance. Miss one and your done.

Van B. isn't that bad for a dealer but you need to remember that your working with an ex-mechanic salesman who wants to sell you as much as possible and he'll tell you that they are worried about your safety.

Work with another good mechanic to help you maintain your sanity. Example: The support arm for the rear hatch failed and needed to be replaced. Fair enough. Their recommendation: replace both because the other one will fail eventually. Well, maybe it will and I'll handle that when it happens. You have to be constantly on guard against the upsell. They also try to terrify you into getting the work done. Again, work with another mechanic that you trust and get a second opinion.

The thing that really made me angry, however, was that I got a trade in quote from their business team as the repairs from the head gasket are large. 2003 with 83,000 and regular maintenance. The Edmund's value, even in rough condition is about $4k. Van Bortel value: $800.

They do know what they're doing and the prices are ok but they will try to scare you, upsell unnecessary repairs and they give really bad value for your trade int!

I used the BJ's Club Auto Buying program where they connected me with Van Bortel Subaru. I was pleased with the low, low , no haggle price. Sure was worth the drive to save so much (over $2000) prices quoted to me by three different local Subaru dealerships for a new 2010 Impreza. No high pressure sales pitch, just loved how I was treated! Would recommend this way to buy a car to anyone and would DEFINITELY return to this dealership to buy another car!

I would like to be able to view the Dealers in stock Suburu's on this web site before traveling there. I live in Horseheads, N.Y. and knowing what vehicles are in stock is a plus before traveling that distance to attempt making a deal..

We've bought a couple cars from Van Bortel and have had great experiences both times. Sales people are knowledgeable and upfront/honest without being pushy. We never felt pressured. The service departments are great too.

Since I just my Subaru just two years ago I take it to the dealer. They always make an appoint ment that is convenient and within a reasonable time period. They never think any of my concerns are dumb. My check engine light had come on twice and gone off. I mentioned it too them and they found a major problem and fixed it. Most garages would have blown it off becasue the light went off. They always send out a survey after service and if you place a question on it they personally call you to clarify it.
