I moved to New York several years ago and have been in search of a AMAZING stylist and discovered the Time salon I had purchase products there before, but was turned off by the attitude I received when I was purchasing some AVEDA products

I've always had to take a whole day off from work to get my hair done at Time.
I didn't find parking right away on my last visit so I decided to call the salon to let someone there know that I would be 10-15 minutes late. I was told that I would not be able to get my hair done if I didn't arrive within 15 minutes of my 9:45am appointment. I arrived at 10:05am and was seated....until about 11:45am. At this point, my stylist, hadn't yet arrived. Any who, my hair was washed and set and styled and I left the salon shortly AFTER 3pm. No, I didn't get any extensions, a full head weave, deep conditioner, protein treatment, color or cut. Just a wash, blow dry and curl.

All in all, while I always get compliments on my hair, TIME is truly over rated.

Pros: Helped my get my hair back to a healthy state.

Cons: Time consuming, inconsistent pricing

.

They use top of the line products. I went twice and still not impressed for the price. My hair did not have a nice glossy sheen never did nor did it look like the cut I asked for which was edgy. I thought Time Salon was an "Upscale Salon" Oh and right by my home was so convenient. I ran into a lady on the street and her hair style was gorgeous she referred me to Burzh-Wa Myrtle Ave, Bklyn will be trying them this weekend

Pros: Stylist Ok Letresse

Cons: Waiting time out of control

.

Time Salon thinks that it's the cream of the crop. But I am hoping to shed much light. First of all, even with an appointment you have to wait hours to be serviced. For the price they charge, you shouldn't have to wait that long. They act so bourgie, yet they don't even offer you any refreshments...not even water!!!! And then, they only take cash?!?!? Hhmmm...a cash business! I don't like that and am very suspicious about it! For a REAL upscale experience worth the price, try Evolution Green Room, also in BK.

Pros: Good Stylist

Cons: Arrogant and overpriced

.

I really like this place, however, besides the fact that they are really expensive for styling natural hair, I wish that I didn't feel so ucomfortable trying a different stylist (within the salon) without the stylists making you feel uncomfortable (like you only can go to that 1 person to do your hair) . I believe that all stylists in there are great and I would love to try a different one every now and again without the gossip.

I paid $167.00 for nothing! I decided to take a chance and get my hair done @ Time Salon. Please do not make the same mistake! Not friendly! They are all about the business of making you feel uncomfotable. Please beware of Time $alon!

i love it. started going there when it 1st opened many many years ago and continue to make appts when i'm in bklyn. couldn't give a damn about whether the stylist or person sitting next to me has a gucci bag or a paper bag, may hair always looks awesome and its worth every penny. go somewhere else and sit for 72 hrs if you don't like the atmosphere.

I have been going to Time for a year now. I see Heather or Akilah every two months to freshen up my hair cut. I have received countless positive comments about my hair from family, friends, and people I don't know on the street. I have thick healthy hair and used to get complements but never like this now that I have Time hairdressers cutting my hair. My only negative critique is that my hair style doesn't last long...it's flat by the next day. I have a graduated bob (above shoulders). They use natural products and I guess that maybe they don't hold the hair style...but your hair is always soft and bouncy. The next day I always have to re-curl it. Good thing I know how to curl it myself. Even though this isn't a good thing...the cut is always slammin and I always get compliments. People also ask me where I go and can t hey have the number. So...given that the style doesn't last long...the cut is off the chain so it's worth it for me. A lil pricy, but that's about how much you pay at a black hair salon.

Pros: Great cut, upscale atmosphere, good hair care advice

Cons: long wait (sometimes), hairstyle doesn't last long

.

I really wanted to like this place since it's so close to home. The products are great and so are the stylists. I know that I should be used to the long waits in black salons, but it's just so unnecessary and archaic. Of course you want them to take their time and style your hair nicely, but appointments should be scheduled based on what work will be done, not on how many bookings they can squeeze in on a given day. I don't really care about the Gucci handbags or client attitudes - the salon can't change that. I do care about MY time; if it's not respected then I have to take my business elsewhere.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with whomever said this salon is highly pretentious. Everyone shows up with their Gucci and Chanel bags, with their noses in the air. The salon is very professional, sure, but whoever said they were "down to earth" was inaccurate. They KNOW they're worth; and they don't hesistate to let everyone else know, either. I heard a stylist bragging about how a client simply couldn't afford him and that she should go somewhere cheaper. What kinda cr@p is that to say out loud in front of other customers? Anyway, I've been there a total of two times, and have always felt r@ped each time as far as my wallet was concerned. This is what you're paying for: their pricey products (which ARE pretty good) and the atmosphere. As far as them doing anything remarkable? Methinks not. I don't see where they do anything any other professional black stylist wouldn't do. If you want to spend extra money to "feel good" and put on airs, then by all means, visit the Time salon.

First, I think for people to grasp the concepf of Time Salon, I need to emphasize that this is an upscale hair salon. I think because it is a "Black" salon, there is that ignorant stigma of people associating Blacks who appreciate life's finer things as snooty and pretentious. I am sure there are a few clients of Time that are pretentious and insecure, BUT most of the clientelle I have encountered seem to really appreciate great service and excellent hair care. Personally, I take pride in myself and therefore, money is really not an option for what I deem as optimal care. I am not wealthy by any means, but I appreciate myself and treat myself well. So, receiving EXCELLENT haircare in a professional and clean atmopshere for an "above standard" price is not by any means a reason to character-assault a hair salon., its clents or stylists. Sure you can get almost the same thing cheaper somewhere, but factoring in location, experience, products, and targeted clientelle, this is the objective behind the concept. For what people spend on their hair in Manhattan salons, I see Time Salon as a deal for the quality products they use and the experience they execute. Desiree, my stylist, brings a down-to-earth yet professional approach to every client. There is no rush, she listens to her clients, and executes a well polished product everytime. As for the other stylists and staff (the ladies who shampoo etc), I see people who are also striving to give the client their money's worth and build a great salon. We are all human and often fall short, so why are these stylists any different?.

I truly appreciate this salon and its concept and hope those seeking a review take into consideration what I have outlined. There are plenty choices for hair salons etc..Like a marriage, you may connect, you may not. Ultimately it is a decision you have to make based on not only your budget, but on what level of care you want for yourself. It is a great hair salon but it is not for everyone

Pros: You get what you pay for...A cut may not be what you want, but you got great products

Cons: Truly, this is subjective based on expectations

Time is a great place to take good care of your hair, and you better believe you're paying the price for it too. The comfort is a plus and the styling is nice. They have great treatments. Only thing is, if you're trying to grow your hair, or keep the length of your hair, DO NOT ASK THEM FOR A TRIM!! They only know how to chop off your hair no matter what you tell them, they do not listen to the customer. I made that mistake, and my hair is shorter than its EVER been, EVER!! And it does Not suit my face! I looked in the mirror and I started crying immediately and told her I hate it! She apologized, but I'm the one who has to walk around with this wig looking thing on my head, and she wouldn't be apologizing if she had just listened to what I wanted, I told her about 6 times, not to cut my hair above my shoulders, she kept cutting the same spot and now I can't even feel it on my shoulders at all! I'm going to get weave put in right away, I've NEVER had fake hair in! This is ridiculous! So just beware. they don't listen, and only do their own thing, so watch carefully when they have scissors in their hand.

I don't know where to begin. For starters, I normally do my own hair & I was skeptic to have just anyone in my hair. But I have about 4 girlfriends that goes to this salon and they all love it (each of them have different styles and hair textures)... so I said what the heck, go for it... and I did... WOW... the staff is friendly and professional. The salon is clean, they are NOT on thier cell phones/eating while doing your hair. Girl, the stylist themselves look like they are on the runway.... Very classy.

My stylist, Desiree is a complete sweetheart, she understood that with natural hair you have to take it piece by piece when you wash and set it... and let me tell you that she is on point when it comes to using a flat iron... she then follows it by the straightening comb for the edges! She was fabolous. Before going to the salon, my hair was pass my bra strap and she cut it & layered it to a little pass my shoulders. She recommended products that I can use on a daily basis and how to "dry curl" it at night....
Desiree herself wears her hair natural so that made me feel a big more comfortable, but then again she does my cousins hair who has a short cut and a perm, and Desiree does her hair lovely!!!!

Listen, I know that you don't know ME from a hole in the wall, but my experience was a great one. I'm going back in a couple weeks to get highlights!
The total bill amounted to $95.00 (wash, deep conditioning, set, flat iron and a layered cut)
The next day... everyone at work and in the street love it... I just had to call Desiree the next day and thank her again for the wonderful job...
Two of my girlfriends goes to Akilah & my 2 cousins goes to Desiree... Listen you can't go wrong with either one...

I have been to Time 4x with varying lengths of hair (I have gradually cut my below shoulder tresses to a pixie). Eric was great working with bobs but he didn't do that well with my pixie. But...it was a Saturday and he was overbooked as usual making it harder for him to actually pay attention to what I really wanted done.

Good salon, drama between stylists apparent, if satisfaction high then prices aren't that bad.

Amazing time. My appointment was at 9, and I started at exactly 9. Desiree and Chelle were extremely pleasant, and professional which made my experience enjoyable. Can I just say that Desiree hooked me up royally, so much so that 2 weeks later strangers are still complimenting me on my haircut. I'm Time's biggest advocate now.

I use to go to Time Salon all the time about seven years ago and then decided to change careers and simply couldn't afford it but now I'm BACK!!! (And traveling from Harlem, so you know its worth it) Anyone who says they didn't like their hair on leaving Time Salon is CRAZY!!! Now, I can only really speak on behalf of Heather and Keith - you will look fly if either of them do your hair.

Understand - this salon is NOT for the cash strapped! I went recently had a relaxer and a cut by Keith and it cost me (plus tip for him & wash girl) $220. But my hair looked soooo good....I went to my birthday party and everyone LOVED it!!

I have been a client of Eric's since 2004. He is always professional and knows whats best for my hair. I am frequently asked who is my stylist and I proudly whip out one his business cards. Anyone who visits Time Salon should expect only the most professional atmosphere. The energy there is always positive and upbeat. This is NOT a salon with a bunch of loud talking and tackiness. The environment is calming, time efficient yet hip. Make an appointment and walk out looking and feeling great!

That was my worst experience ever. I have been wearing a short hair cut for more than fifteen years and I have never ever walk out of a saloon looking like I did my own hair. I got a Wash, Cut, no conditioner and my hair was $85.00 dollars and it looked horrible. As for the stylis (Eric) he is professional but his skills are week for doing and styling hair. But you live and learn.......... that that is not the spot to get your wig swig.

OKay so I finally decided to check out this salon that my sister recommended to me. First and foremost I've been wanting to cut my hair for the longest time and after two unsuccessful attempts to cut my hair I finally gave into my sisters demand. The second I walked into Time Salon I knew I was entering into something special. the salon is really hip and trendy with some of the hottest tunes blaring out the speakers. The vibes from the staff was welcoming and professional and easy to talk to. My stylist was Leatrice, she is Tha Bomb!! I told homegirl in a few words how I wanted my hair to look and she understood exactly what would work with my face and set me up with her assistant to begin the process. What impressed me the most was how involved Leatrice was with the overall handling of my hair and how she wanted everything to look at the end. This woman knows everything there is to know about hair and I love her for that!!! Time Salon is a bit pricey, but its worth every penny in the long run. I'm enjoying all the compliments people/strangers have been giving me since my haircut. I highly recommend this salon to anyone and everyone..SHouts OUt to Leatrice and the entire Time Salon Family!!!

I went to the Time Salon for the first time. I had passed it many times and thought it looked like a place to get my hair done. It never seemed to be overcrowded. When I got there, my stylist was late. When she got there, I told her what I wanted and she said ok. I assumed she would be doing my hair the entire time. Someone else permed, washed, and dried my hair. My stylist never even explained this processed to me. As for the wash, other than the neutralizing shampoo, there was one shampoo wash. The stylist then cut my hair and styled it. My hair looked like a "HOT MESS" when she was done. Not only did it look bad, but it felt hard. To top everything off, she charged me $112. TOOOOOOOOOOOO much money for the job she did. If you are in the area and want a good salon at reasonable prices and nice hairstyles, I reccommend FOLICLES. Your will wait a bit, but your hair will look fabulous.

I have been going to Time Salon for almost a year and I'm a satisfied customer. It is a spa like atmosphere. Downstairs is very comfortable and fully equipted with a good size plasma, dim relaxing lighting, and candles. I have to admit one of the best things besides my stylist Des and her assistant LaJoy are the Sunday hours (but you have to book early in the week). Des an LaJoy are very pleasant and professional. I'm always happy with the results (cut, style, and products) and recieve sooo many compliments. And yes you will pay more than you do at the Dominican spot but you will not get the same results. Public transportation is close and if you want to drive make an early appointment and there will be parking spots on one of the surrounding blocks.

Public transportation is close and if you want to drive make an early appointment and there will be parking spots on one of the surrounding blocks.

Pros: Stylist Des/assistant Lajoy and atmosphere

.

Time Salon is definately the place to go....the atmospher is great...I have been a client of Heather (owner) for over 19 years and everytime she would do my color and cut by the time I would leave there I was a totally satisfied and looked like a different person...she knows my hair better than I do...all I do is get in her chair and without saying a word she knows what style would look great on me...what I should do to maintain my hair the most important thing that I love about her cuts is even after a period of time (months and more) as my hair grows the stlye is still there....so the price is worth it and more....I would NEVER replace her or Time Salon...the wait maybe long at times but ...the service is excellent...there's no price to much ....keep up the great work Heather your a blessing.....

Because I wanted to give it a good try, I have been to Time Salon on 2 separate occasions. I was unhappy with the customer service and the results each time. The prices are higher than the average, with no noticeable difference in results than the average place. It's just not the place for me, but you know it is all about preference.

I went to Time for the first time in June of this year. A friend of mine had gone at the recommendation of another friend so I thought I would give it a try. I called for an appointment and was assigned to Deidre (or something with a D. not sure). I'd read reviews on Citysearch before going so I was aware that there might be a long wait. The salon is nice and everyone seemed very professional and the wait wasn't so bad on a Saturday morning. Now people, I have a lot of hair. It's thick and long and I needed the works: relaxer, cut, style. The girl who relaxed my hair burned me so bad. I've never been burned that bad in my life and I've been relaxing my hair for many, many years. I had scabs for weeks. She also complained about how long it took to blowdry my hair. Then the stylist flat ironed, cut and hot curled my hair. The cut was very blunt and I didn't like it at all. The total bill: $155 (including tip). That's pricey but I'm more than willing to pay that for satisfaction. I also wasn't able to do anything with my hair when I got home. If I tried to blowdry it the ends were so blunt and frizzy and looked a mess. Now, I say I have mixed feelings about Time because although I had a bad experience every other girl who left the salon that day looked runway ready. They looked fly yall. But they all had short haircuts. So, my conclusion is that Time does great with short hair but not so great with the long thick kind. So, if you're like me, I would stick with the Dominicans. They have more experience with my type of hair.

Ya'll already know that since I come from the midwest near the hair capital (Detroit) and once lived in DC where they throw down as well, I'm going to be very critical of how East coast salons take care of my hair. And that's just it... they DON'T. They just style. That was until I started going to Leatrice at Time Salon where I get good CARE AND STYLE(Sounds like a commercial right?). In the WHOLE year and three months that I have lived here, I have never found anyone that satisfied my hair. I love working out here, so I thought I was going to have to forfeit my hair, but Time salon totally changed my attitude about New York salons. It seems that everyone at Time does really good. They're a wee bit more expensive, but believe me... IT IS WORTH IT. I wouldn't travel from Riverdale Bronx area for nothing.

I had a 9:00 am appontment the stylist (Tia) didn't get there until 10:00 am.,I didn't get out until 3:00 pm. I ask her to cut my hair in a bob, similar to the style she had. She gave me a short hair cut, that didn't fit my face at all!!! She keep telling me she like my hair and she thought it was nice, even after i sat in chair almost in tears. I end up having to add tracks to my hair to try and create the style that i wanted. It was so stupid of her to cut of all my hair and tell me that the style was a bob. She keep apologizing, but i was so upset it didn't even matter. I couldn't believe she charged me for the tracks after cutting my hair to short.!! I was awful. I paid $126 for a perm a haircut and tracks i would not have needed if she didn't cut all my hair off. That was very unprofessional of her. Everyone else in salon seem to a great job, especially ERIC! They do have good hair products. I don't know where they got Tia from!! She was the worst.

Hands down the best shampoo in brooklyn, these ladies and sometimes gents really know the spots on a head. The sinks are nice and high and cradle your neck. After one of their shampoos colors seem brighter.

I?ve been going to Time Salon for the last six months. I previously wrote a positive recommendation of the salon, but unfortunately I have to retract my previous post. Of my last THREE appointments, TWO have been cancelled with little to no advance notice. In December, I received a phone call (one day?s notice) telling me that my stylist wasn?t scheduled to work on the day I made my appointment. My stylist blamed the receptionist who took my appointment (two weeks earlier) for scheduling the appointment when she wasn?t going to be there. Okay, one mistake in six months, I?m fine with that. This past Saturday, I showed up for my 9AM appointment and the receptionist told me that my stylist called in sick. The receptionist was completely unsympathetic and casually said that I could have my hair done by another stylist, but I would have to wait. (Of course I would have to wait all day ? it?s Saturday!) This completely ruined my day. I needed a relaxer (it had been 8 weeks) and I was going out of town to my sorority?s reunion the next day.

Time Salon- your time is up! Two strikes in less than a month and you?re out! Get it together!

I have been going to the Time Salon for 14 years and I'm very happy. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. I'm sure there are other good salons out there. But for me, Time Salon does it BEST. Heather knows my hair. She keeps my hair very heathly even when I was going throug a deficiency after surgery. She promotes hair care on top of giving you a beauty hairstyle. Men and Women compliment my hair. So they don't have robes is that going to make my hair more beautiful NO. Everyone's is always in a race. I take that time to relax and read. Some of thing that the people here have posted are abit exaggerated. Saturday's are busy but what salon isn't nevertheless you get what you pay for. I want hair care not a hairstyle that's load with holding spray and hard gels damaging my hair. If you want healthy hair with body and strenght come to TIME. I recommend Heather. She knows the right cuts to fit your face. And she will take your hair to a new healthy level. Her whole staff is sick with the hair. If you can't get Heather, Akilah is aka Baby Heather. I promise you will be satisfied. If you brought a cheap pair of shoes and they ripped you'd say "Well they were cheap I expected that" Why should your hair be any different. Want cheap go to the Domincians and watch you stringy straight boring Dooby FALL OUT.

Leatrice is my stylist. She is the best colorist, always focusing on the health of my hair. She is also an amazing stylist. For the prices they charge I would like the stylists to act more professional but overall it's a good experience. I highly recommend Akila, Eric and the owner Heather.

I am currently looking for a dependable salon in my neighborhood. This salon looked great and was convenient. The salon is clean and professional, but watch your purse. I paid more than I ever had to pay and the results were um...just average. I will keep looking. I won't return.

This place is great my stylist Akilah is the best. She has been taking care of my hair for more than a year now, through my transition from relaxed to natural hair. My hair is so healthy; I always receive complements on my hair. I would recommend Time Salon to every one possible. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for!! This place is no Dominican spot with $15 wash and set!!

So try time salon and ask for Akilah!

The name of the salon is exactly what you need...TIME!
You have to make an appointment. If you arrive 10 min late, they won't take you. On top of that you have to pay a cancellation fee.
Be prepared to hold your coat...not enough closet space.
Be prepared to stand...not enough seating.
The girls that help the stylist are not good washers.
They roller set the top of your hair, then slick the sides. The sides take forever to dry.
If your hair is not used to heat, be careful. The stylist love the flat iron.
Come with a purse full of cash. They charged me $90 for cut/style, $70 for touch-up, $50 for wash/cond.
This experience taught me a lesson. Looks can be decieving, because a salon appears in a well known magazine, doesn't mean your salon experience will be a good one.
Time Salon is very, very over-rated!!!

Though I received excellent service and a phenomenal cut from a genius named Eric, I'm sorry to say I can't give this salon a great review because of the unnecessarily LONG wait for service. Stay away unless you can go at an off time during the week (NEVER on Saturday or Sunday); otherwise be prepared to spend the WHOLE day there.

The other issues - not enough seating and they don't have robes. This makes no sense - I mean, a hair salon with no robes???

If they worked on their time management, this would be the best salon ever. Unfortunately, they seem to schedule numerous appointments every half hour - REGARDLESS of how long the task will take. I hope they read this and fix these silly issues asap. This ex-client would be happy to come back if you just respected my time!

This place is fantastic. My stylist Eric gave me a touch up and fabulous cut a for about $90. One unusual thing they do is to set some of your hair, put you under the dryer and THEN cut your hair. For the first time , my hair didn't look lifeless after a relaxer - it had body and smelled great!

For some reason they don't have robes, but that didn't bother me too much. Just keep your towel close to your neck when you're getting rinsed. They're close to the C train in Brooklyn too. Try them - you won't be disappointed.

are the women doing the relaxers properly trained? i've just been burned one time to many and can't take the scabs. maybe seeing these anonymous comments will help them hire better staff or have the stylists (all of them seem pretty good) do the relaxers. moving on to salons further downtown.

I've had several good cuts. Sometimes good relaxers (and sometimes miserable burns). But why no robes? I wasn't happy when a glob of relaxer landed on my new sweater. And why the long wait when you have an appointment? Not great, especially when it's crowded and there's no place to sit. I'm heading back to my old salon after trying them a few times.

I have been to many salons to try to get my hair exactly the way I wanted. So I said to myself let me give the Time Salon a try. (first time going) I called for an appointment and the receptionist was very polite and courteous. She introduced my to my hair stylist LaTresse. LaTresse asked me want I wanted to do with my hair. I told her and I got great results. Latresse is the best. She did a fantastic job on my hair. When I got home my fiancee' said now thats what am taking about your hair it looks great. The time salon is FANTASTIC. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. Thanks LaTresse. Vanessa your new client.

After hearing and reading so much about the salon, I gave it a try this past Saturday. While I was happy with my hair and my stylist(LaTreece), the wait was terrible. My journey began at 12:45 for a 1pm appointment and it ended at 6:45 with my head not being touched until 2:30. Saturday is usually THE hair day at any salon so I was expecting some wait, but this was borderline madness. Waiting aside, I will definetely be going back...just not on a Saturday. Go, you'll love it.

I've been living in this neighborhood over six years and have seen business come and go. Wondering how this salon has endured, I decided to get first hand experience. Now I know that it is because they are good at they do. I was impressed with the atmosphere and professionalism of all of the hairdressers. Of course I was a little nervous at first because I am usually never satisfied with my hairstyle when I go to the salons. But when Deion my hairstylists was finished with my hair, I was able to walk out looking and feeling good about my hair. That almost never happens when I go the salons, I usually have to run home and re-do it. Anyway, the only drawback was that they are pretty busy, and so I ended up spending more time there than expected but somehow I feel it was worth the wait!

That almost never happens when I go the salons, I usually have to run home and re-do it. Anyway, the only drawback was that they are pretty busy, and so I ended up spending more time there than expected but somehow I feel it was worth the wait!

.

I have gotten the best ever hair cut and style at this salon. After leaving a salon I usually go home and comb out my hair. When I leave Time, I receive numerous compliments and my hairstyle lasts at least a week.
