I was very apprehensive to go to Cub Room (I had never been there before) after the reviews I read it was sort of mix feeling but my online date choose it. Left with no choice I showed up, the server serving us in the lounge cut the ice for me and my date. Service was casual but attentive the server gave us room to talk and did not hover over our heads (much appreciated). DJ was playing a good mix of hip-hop and 80/90?s. We just recently decided to go exclusive hence I highly recommend the place for a date it is casual, ambience is just right and it is far better then places like Social Stanton/Alta where food is expensive and waiters never leave you alone.

I've recently started working in the neighborhood & was happy to be able to frequent The Cub Room again, as i had great memories from the late 90's of meals here.

Sad to say, its fallen under poor management. 3 weeks ago was there for lunch & a giant waterbug crawled up the wall + the waiter gave us very poor service. Then 2 weeks later went back & it took 45 minutes to get a chicken cobb salad & a coke, while the restaurant was barely occupied.

Today, i took a party of 14 and it was such a disaster that my boss was freaking out the whole time (which made me look bad for picking the place.) 3/4 of our party ordered from the Pre-fix, yet it was still amazing how badly our food came out of the kitchen. The first round of drinks took 30 minutes to arrive, the soups/salads took another 45 minutes to appear and the entrees came out over 1 1/2 hours into being there. For lunch, that's not acceptable service. Plus, the pulled pork sandwich was ice cold in the middle as if it was still frozen. All this with barely any acknowledgment or apology from staff/management. Considering we had a reservation for over a week, there's no good reason for this kind of service.

When reading the other reviews, its clear that management/staff are submitting posts to offset all the bad reviews. While its a nice space with lots of history, don't take anyone there you plan to impress. Its better for a glass of wine or a beer after work.

Pros: Nice space, good wine/beer selection, view of Prince Street.

Cons: Poor service from waitstaff & kitchen--a perfect candidate for Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare makeover

After having been in the restaurant business for most of my life, I look forward to dining out and having new experiences. My dinner at the Cub Room certainly constitutes a new experience. The menu, at first glance, is very recognizable. The catch here is the way the food is presented. The beauty of the dishes rivals any art work I have seen pertaining to food, but the best and most important feature was the flavor. As I was chewing, a myriad of flavors were released into my mouth with strength and subtlety combined. The combinations chosen by this Chef compliment each other to give the diner an experience to be remembered.

Before dining at the Cub Room I read all the reviews on this site, they were so deverse that I just had to go and see for myself. Now I can honestly say that it was one of the most amazing experiences that I have ever had. From the friendly greeting that I recieved from the Hostess to the warmth of the server, I was made to feel welcome and very comfortable. The presentation of the food was only surpassed by the full flavor of every dish ordered (you really have to try the Apple Salad, Braised shortribs stuffed baby portabellas, Scallops and the Duck). The waiter we had took the time to explain everything he brought out with full and clear knowledge of what he was talking about. He kept an eye on us without being obtrusive so we were allowed to savor the quality of the food without feeling rushed.I and my companions can not wait to return to the Cub Room and hope Chef Bradley Anderson remains with them for a very long time. His talent alone is worth the trip!!!!!!

I took my fiance here the other night for his birthday and all i can say is WOW!!! The menu was incredible(i had the scallops wich were amazing and my fiance had the pork also amazing) the flavors were diverse but extreamely coherent. Every thing was delicious and the wine list had choices at all price points - we had a very reasonably priced bottle and loved it. The service was nearly perfect. Ranks with Annisa as one of the best dinners I have had in New York. Highly recommended.

We've been coming here for years. We've had 2 wonderful private parties here. We have lovely memories of excellent meals and good times. Then, the last few times the food was mediocre and not to order (meat cooked rare instead of medium well, substitutions not done properly, raw potatoes, cold flabby bacon, etc) but we have persisted. We wanted to still love the Cub Room.

THEN...this past weekend we had a party of 8 in the private room for Mother's Day. We paid $35 per person for one of the single worst dining experiences I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating. The food was disgusting. I sent back my toddler's pancakes twice because they were burnt outside and RAW inside. When the third set came out raw, I told them to forget it. None of the eggs were cooked. My brother in law's steak was as tough as shoe leather - he showed everyone how he couldn't get a knife through it. My mother's French onion soup came out without any cheese (although mine, which came out with it, had melted cheese). When sent back for cheese, it came out with a piece of UNMELTED CHEESE floating in the soup.

The waiter could see it was all a mess. He was apologetic and told us that he wished he could be in the kitchen. We didn't even ask - he came in at the end and told us he had secured a 10% discount. It was small comfort on a $500 bill (yes, we ordered wine - it was the only edible thing). And HERE'S THE KICKER...as we're finishing the prix-fixe-included dessert ("molten" chocolate cake with no molten), a little woman comes and tells us we have to leave because they have another party waiting for our table. I nicely explained (I manage a customer svc staff and don't believe in being rude to staff) how disappointing the food was and that we wouldn't still be there if we hadn't had to send everything back multiple times. Her response: "I assure you it will be better next time."

Sorry, Cub Room. There won't be a next time.

I used to go there, but mediocre managment and poor service made of this place the worse in soho, the food is not even close to average, the prices are absolutely high and the ambiance is just a left over of the glamour of the old Cub Room.

I booked this restaurant for a group of 7 girlfriends and I for Saturday brunch and was very disappointed and actually appalled at the lack of service and professionalism.

The food was ok but the service was terrible. The waiter spilled a drink all down my friend's hair, back and jacket during the meal. Of course accidents happend - however it was the lack of professionalism to take care of the incident that was terrible. Not once did the manager come over to acknowledge the incident and try to smooth the situation over. The cost of dry cleaning and of her meal was supposed to be taken off the bill but initially they actually charged us for the drink that was spilled!! It took a long time to make sure the proper cost was taken off the bill - much too long when you just want to get out of the restaurant.

After reading all the other reviews on here that comments on such bad service, I now can understand the comments. I would NOT recommend this restaurant - the food was mediocre and service was terrible. I would hope the restaurant would clue in to the fact that half of what makes a good restaurant is the quality in service and they seriously need to improve on service, especially when there are so many other restaurant choices in NYC for customers.

The first time I went to The Cub Room with my date, I was surprised I haven't been there before. I loved the cozy and romantic environment and especially enjoyed the cocktail selection (I liked the "Chinatown" cocktail). Yesterday I went with my group of girlfriends and we all had a blast taking countless pictures!

Had to second the note of bad customer service. Had to request everything that was needed (water, check, etc). Food and atmosphere were very good.

I feel a little bit badly writing a review about the terrible service at this restaurant since the atmosphere is lovely and the food and drinks were very nice. But the service is a joke. I went with my girlfriend and things got off badly when a waitress spilled a glass of water all over me. I'm pretty mild-tempered and I honestly didn't get mad, mistakes happen. But the waitress barely apologized, just threw some napkins at me and never came back. Since getting soaked with water could potentially ruin someone's evening, I would have expected them to be a little more gracious and apologetic. But, I honestly could have forgotten about this if the waitress who actually served us wasn't so bad as well. She was nice, but just totally incompetent. Even though the restaurant wasn't that crowded, she basically ignored us and stood about 10 feet away at the bar chatting and drinking coffee. I had to wave her over any time we wanted to order anything. She never brought us bread, or asked if we needed anything. After the main course, we waited 1/2 an hour and finally I waved her over. She asked if we needed something and I said, "Perhaps you have a desert menu?"

It's a shame the service is so bad at this restaurant because everything else is very nice. But why spend over $100 to be treated badly?

A trendy, but unpretentious crowd. Deliciously inventive cocktails (cummerbund- mint and cucumber with chilled vodka-great), tasty, late night eats (the tuna tartar was particularly excellent) and an overall upscale but relaxed atmosphere (most people were dressed very nicely, but it was not stuffy in any way). Good both for a date, especially the romantic back room, as well as a group of friends to listen to the music and watch the classic film screening in the front bar. I will be back

I went to the cub room about 2 weeks ago with my girlfriends. (Party of 6)
We were promptly sited on the back dinning room, which transmit this cozy, beautiful and romantic atmosphere.
Our waiter was an adorable Latin guy who embellished our ladies night out with his charisma and good looks.
I was definitely surprised about the food; the special trout of the day was fantastic and the stuffed potatoes were delicious as well.
The desserts where lovely and so were the ports.
I wouldn?t doubt recommending this place.... I will be back very soon.

As a citysearch junkie and long-time Cub Room regular, I felt I had to write a review to counter the last two ridiculous comments posted. I am not writing about a particular experience I have had at the Cub Room but about the fact that I have been coming here consistently for the past five years. True, every restaurant and restaurant worker has a bad day now and then, but most often, people only bother to write nasty reviews about such instances. I can say, truly, that these two examples are extreme exceptions to the generally wonderful dining experience that is the Cub Room. The staff is a young, fun, hard working bunch who, although are quite international in origin and speak english with varying colorful accents, all speak english FLUENTLY. I have to wonder if that nasty comment about the lack of english by the last poster wasn't perhaps a bit of east-coast snobbery at play. Additionally, the food is great (both casual and formal fare), the pastries are UNBELIEVABLE, and they have a very seasoned bar staff at work mixing up kitschy but yummy cocktails to please.
Any restaurant week complaints should be taken in light of the fact that the couple nights i stopped by for a drink during the two weeks, there were roughly 300 guests being waited on, so 2 complaints isn't bad in my book...
I don't make the Cub Room my neighborhood spot for nothing. Check it out and see for yourself.

My friends and I arrived on time for our reservation at Cub Room when the hostess nastily declared, "You're going to have to wait 20 minutes." No apologies, no explanation. I asked why since we were right on time, 9:45pm, and she stated flatly, "No. It's 9:30." Apparently, they are on a different time zone so if you DO plan to dine at this establishment, prepare to set your clocks back. Then, while we were waiting at the bar, I asked for the wine list. I noticed that the bartender was busy but I thought no harm in looking at what we want, while she attends to other orders. But that was too much for her as she said nothing to me (though I had been trying to get her attention for 7 minutes by then) and gave me an evil look as she handed me the menu. I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN. These rude people ruined our night and left us with such a bitter taste in our mouths. We would have left for another restaurant right then and there but we thought it would have been impossible to get a table for 5 that late in time. We stuck it out however and ate only what was on the restaurant menu because they didn't even OFFER their regular menu (which makes no sense because that's where they bring in the big bucks). My scallops were good but came in an extremely small portion (2) and my steak was WAY RARE even though I asked for medium and my fries were over cooked and burnt. DO NOT GO HERE.

Pros: Yummie scallops and SUPER rich desserts

Cons: The people who work there are rude and should not work in the SERVICE industry, PERIOD.

Walked in the cub room on a Saturday night with 3 other friends for dinner, to be sited on the back room after a short 2 min wait. To receive the best service I?ve ever had in NYC. I live in Manhattan and go out dinning 3 or 4 times a week. And I would highly recommend this place. Good food. Great specials, the white tuna was delicious. But my favorite part of the whole night was this gorgeous, friendly, and experienced waiter that made our whole dinning experience the best we've ever had. The place is cozy, romantic, and if you get to have the Hispanic waiter with the model looks (I believe his name is GIUAN) you would have the most amazing time. Follow his advice in everything and u won?t regret it.
Would definitely recommend it. Don?t forget to try the Rita Hayworth drink.

We went with another couple on the as-yet coldest night of the winter and, unpon entering, it seemed the perfect spot to cozy up and enjoy the company of friends. We were seated promptly however confusion quickly ensued. Our waitress came to take our drink orders and she must have been just training because she seemed unsure of herself and of our orders. She quickly ran to get someone else to help, supposedly the sommelier, but interestingly she didn't seem to know much about the wine selections. We had a few other encounters with confused servers and we noticed quite a few of them standing in packs in the corners of the restaurant looking rather hesitant. Many of them had thick accents and were perhaps not fluent in English. Our drinks arrived quickly but then we experienced almost a 45 minute lull while the servers scampered about trying to accomodate a few larger parties (even the large party in the private room had to send out a representative to request service). We didn't mind all that much as we drank and chatted but after a while our hunger pangs took over. We had to request bread and water for the table as it was not brought automatically. The appetizers were the greatest hits among our table. The seafood springrolls were delicious and satisfying and my friend enjoyed the tuna tartare (although I found a taste too mushy). I had the halibut, which was overcooked and dry, and I looked over enviously to my friend who raved about the lobster risotto. My husband enjoyed the "chicken under a brick" with its satisfying crispiness. We look forward to returning to the cozy, cavernous space despite the "off night" our servers seemed to experience. Don't we all have those?

I have been to the Cub Room a few times for different occasions. Lunch with friends or business associates is great at the Cub Room. Try the Califorian Salad! It is an amazing blend of greens, avocados, pomegranite seeds and more. For dinner, there are three choices: The cafe, which is a great place for casual dining and not so expensive, but tasty American food; the back dining room, which has an eclectic fine dining menu with the most amazing Tuna Tartare appetizer; and the Lounge with an appetizer menu that also includes an extremely loaded burger. The drinks and food are wonderful and fairly priced (some of the drinks could cost less or they could benefit with a happy hour), but the best thing about the Cub Room is the service. The cocktail waitresses on Friday and Saturday are always cheery and determined to make sure we have a great time and stay full of drinks, especially the cute redhead (can't remember her name). The fine dining servers know their stuff as well. Great wine suggestions to complement a meal choice perfectly! Make sure to make reservations on weekends or you may have trouble getting a table in the back.

I have been to the Cub Room a few times for different occasions. Lunch with friends or business associates is great at the Cub Room. Try the Califorian Salad! It is an amazing blend of greens, avocados, pomegranite seeds and more. We were also there for Restaurant Week and enjoyed the food (the short rib soup was especially delish) and the very good service, sans snobbery.

Came here with my family from out of town for Restaurant Week Lunch and had a fantastic experience! Staff was congenial and knowledgable about dishes, the skirt steak was perfect, and i loved the coconut cheesecake--nice change from the usual RW dessert fare.

Good place to go if you are 40 and single. Also good to go for a drink before eating at one of the local restaurants. Great wine selection and mixed drinks.

This was one of the most disappointing meals in NYC ever. The rudest wait staff I have ever encountered and they charge for things you don?t order so if you go make sure you check your bill thoroughly. When we questioned the bill the waiter and the manager insisted that 7 people managed to drink 6 bottles of wine and not be drunk. The wine list also happens to be way overpriced. Worst was how they handled the matter when we complained. We eat out every night and have never been treated so rudely. I guess it explains why on a Saturday night the restaurant was EMPTY.

Not one of my favorite places in NYC. Too small, too loud and just not appelaing to my eye. The food was ok, was not as great as I expected it to be. The restaurant is somewhat romantic with the not so bright lighting. Will not venture to this place again.

Didn't want heavy meal or to spend the $$$ tonight so we went to the Cub Cafe. Very enjoyable meal, Creamy Corn Soup and Tomato Tart to start then Seared Scallops on Fettucine and Chicken Potpie with a pillow of puff pastry in place of a crust. Very good service, nice casual meal.

I went here during restaurant week with a few friends and had an excellent time. The salad with blue cheese and steak was excellent, as was the warm chocolate cake. The steak, which is apparently their specialty, was sub-par. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful.

My Husband and brought my two your children adn me to the Cub Room for their Mother's Day prix fixe brunch and had a lovely time. The menu was creative and well-priced and the kids menu was, although not as creative satisfying to my very picky younger diners. The server we had was a sweetheart and made sure to wish me a happy mother's day twice and was very good about bringing out the kids' food sooner because they were hungy. I would definitely reccommend the place for brunch and/or for anyone with children!

I've been to many fine, hip and fun restaurants in NYC and this one is disappointing to say the least. Our server was nice, but overtaxed. The food came out late and when it did, we learned that the chef ran out of one of the items when our meals were already on the table. They actually tried charging us for a meal that we didn't even want. When we asked to speak to the owner, he didn't care enough to even explain the situation, let alone make good on a really disappointing night out. Finally we found him in the bar and quite persuasively dragged him over to speak to us. In the end, he begrudgingly paid for one of our bottles of wine. But he couldn't take back the negative experience! I'm sure it was a real hot spot once, but it's obvious, it's lost its luster.

I go to the Cub Room a lot after work for drinks with my friends and coworkers. My parents were in town visiting me last weekend and I took them here b/c I thought it was a more "accessible" trendy spot that they would feel comfortable in. They really loved the atmosphere and the industrial/trendy design mix. The food, as always, was excellent (love the tartare!) and my dad was wowed by the scotch selection. The new server we had was surprisingly well-versed on the menu and gave really solid service. Definitely a great place for different generations to dine!

I had dinner at the Cub Room the other night for the 2nd and LAST time. I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but to spend over $230 for a under cooked and confusing dinner experience is ridicules. I do not understand how this place can stay in business with its prices and quality of food. I left the Cub Room with my date hungry, disappointed and embarrassed. Never again!!!

The chef here means business. The food here is so good it makes you rethink what good food is. Among everything else mentioned below, the STAKE is one of my favorites. Wine list is great, waiters know a lot about the wines. Celeb sightings have happened to me more than once here. If you dont have a reservation for dinner (and you're not famous) dont even THINK about trying to get a table here - you will be turned away or offered the opportunity to scrounge for an open table by the bar which is always PACKED.

This classic NY restaurant lives up to its reputation. Great steaks and delicious desserts. The wine list was very good and the bar area was a cool place to hang before we sat down for our great meal. They also have a DJ who plays great house music on thursday night. (that was the night we went) Highly recommended.

This lounge bar has the lighting, decoration and background music that gives
a real feeling of an elegant, comfortable neighborhood place to hang
out--definitely a great place for a dates. Also, the bartender knew
everything when it came to whiskey and vodka. A bit quiet on Monday, but it
was great to be able to hear my date. I would suggest making this your

You would never purposely go see a bad movie, or send a close friend on a boring blind date. So why subject your pallette to mediocrity that plagues us in everlasting quest for the ideal dining. Do yourself a much deserved favor and make plans to have a meal at THE CUB ROOM!!!

I must admit i was very skeptical of the cub room, having read so many bad reviews, when i walked into the restaurant this weekend. But i must admit, i left the premises feeling very satisfied with the quality of service and meal provided. The bar staff was excellent and charming and kept me entertained while my table was prepared. The server i was seated with was very nice and helped to put together a fine meal. I must recommend the daily special to all, mine was excellent. And afterwards I had a great time lounging at the bar and drinking myself into Bukowski-esque stupor. Good times.

The food is priced decent...it's the liquor that will run up the bill. I had a one apt, 2 main courses, desert and 2 drinks a piece and it ran well over 100 bucks. The place is quite nice and very large, you'll get confused on what door you need to walk into the place to get there.

We went late nite...i.e. 11pm on the weekend and the service was fine. They did run out of some of the specials and main dishes which was disappointing. Also the tables for 2 are small as hell.

It's a good place to eat but nothing really stood out as exceptional.....or bad for that matter. Just a 'meh.' but I'd recommend it.

My boyfriend and I were looking forward to the Cub Room to celebrate Valentine's Day. The place was packed, but we had reservations for 8:30. We were told to go wait in the little bar room in the back and weren't seated until nearly 10pm. The prixfix dinner, both us us got the lobster and we finished the order with the creme brulee sampler. While the sampler and dessert were wonderful, the calamari was tasteless and rubbery, the steak in my 'salad'- ie: lettuce, was apparently the leftover grisles from a better cut of meat and both our lobsters were cold and gummy. Definitely NOT worth the $85 per person for the food alone. The single red rose they gave out on the way out was a nice touch, but by then we'd already decided that we'd never be back. What a disappointment!

The food was great, once we finally got it. Hostess staff courteous, waitress pleasant but harried, but given the caliber of the restaurant, and the size of the bill, I was surprised to see rookie mistakes like we did. We got our starters, and then waited an hour for our apps. However, during that time, we were served someone elses main course, which we sent back, which the staff tried to serve to two other tables in our room, one of which had already received their bill. Why not use table numbers? Who was the expeditor? Where was the kitchen manager? There didnt seem to be any type of system in place or communication amongst the staff. Management should train the staff to be more efficient, it would have cut our meal time by an hour, and other patrons would not have to wait.

We were told they were serving their regular menu -- turns out it was $85/person, without a lot of variety or choice. We waiting over 20 minutes for the wine MENU, and then and additional 20 minutes for our wine. The first two courses were average, but then my lobster dish showed up cold. I sent it back twice, before finally refusing the dish altogether (and opting for the ravioli, which was average at best). Our dinner took close to three hours, and we were constantly flagging down our server to get the next drink/course/bill. I would not recommend this place, especially on a special night.

I came here during restaurant week with a group of 8 friends. We had a private room out back which was amazing. There was a big, solid wood, country style, long dining table with a rustic fireplace and candles. It was quite impressive. The service was okay, although we found ourselves signalling for service quite often. The food was disappointing though. We all got something different and I can't say that I was very impressed considering the cost. I got the chocolate etc. ribs and they were good, but slightly overcooked. The entree steak was very rough, very dry, and extremely chewy even though I ordered it Medium Rare. I had a good experience, but mostly because of the atmosphere and the private room not because of the food.

Our extremely long evening began when I tried to postpone the reservation by 15-30 minutes and was told that it was not a good idea because they were very busy. I agreed and moved our reservation from 7:45 to 8:45. We should have left our reservation for 7:45 because they were running over an hour behind. We finally sat down around 10:00pm only to be served cold and undercooked food. I ordered a steak medium and it could not even be called rare. It was definitely NOT worth the $35 per person. NEVER again!!!

The coat check was full? The hostess sat us down in a booth. After our waitress brought us menus & took our drink orders, a diff hostess came over & asked us to give up our table. We told her no. After a discussion in the corner between the 2 hostesses & a man, the same hostess came back & told us we had to get up and sit in the original assigned table because they had 8 people waiting for this table. She did not care that we couldn't fit at the table or that it was blocking the exit door. She insisted that the computer says it seats 3. We asked the man if he was the manager or owner & was told "whatever"

I went to the Cub Room for the first time with my girlfriends this past week for Restauarant Week. The place was packed when we got there and we did have to wait a bit, but the wait was more than made up for by the excellent bar scene: delicious cocktails (I reccommend the Chinatown!), hot bartenders, and an excellent mix of people mingling and hanging out. Good mix of music as well. When we were seated for dinner, the staff was more than apologetic for the wait and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Very knowledgeable server, great food (quite the opposite from the previous review, the temperature and taste on our dishes were great), and swanky ambience. All in all, a great place to spend a chic soho evening, excellent meal and after-dinner drink scene in one spot!

My boyfriend & I went for restaurant week. The hostess instructed to sit at the bar for 10 minutes for a table. After 30 minutes, someone came over, apologized for the wait, and sat us at a beautiful table. We ordered another round of drinks and 20 minutes later were waited on. 15 minutes later the appetizers arrived (mine was warm and bland, his was tasty but cold). We sent the cold food back & it came back cold again. Dinner took another 30 minutes- mine was tasty but cold, his was hot and OK. We complained to the servers- they smiled, said they would let the kitchen know, and continually asked if we wanted more drinks. We were still waiting for dessert twenty minutes later. We spent $130 and we were annoyed and tired after the 2 hr ordeal.
