This place is great if you want to go and have drinks with your friends. They have good draft beers as well as drinks and if you want to use them for birthday parties or special events Patsy is the girl to call, she handles everything. They are great.

Great Sunday
by joebiz23
I get sent to NYC on business every few weeks but this time I arrived on a sunday rather than midweek. My company put me up in the Tudor Hotel on 42nd so I decided to go across the street to Mcfaddens to watch the Yankees. I've gone by there sometimes and thought it was kinda rowdy and not my scene but they must have changed something because I had a great experience. I sat at the bar, ate my grilled cheese for dinner and had to drink away my sorrows at the yankees getting swept by Boston. I was just going to watch the game but I ended up closing the place down, Mary (the bartender) did a fantastic job and I recommend this place to anyone who wants to roll in for some good bar food and a fun place to watch a game. The only drawback was the yankees losing!!
Pros: good food, laid-back and great service

Worst Bar in Midtown ???
by Gene11105
WORST BAR EXPERIENCE EVER! So me and my coworkers saw they had this $20 All You Can Drink for 2 hours Special every friday, we work a block away, so why not right? Wrong!! We get there, where the bouncer checks your ID just to step into the place (haha..big joke since this place is more of a pub) and they tell us that the $20 special's been discontinued. What they have now is you pay $5 , they clamp a wristband on you, and you get drinks HALF PRICE for 2 hours. Sounds cool right? Wrong!! Me and my buddies from work start ordering beers. They order pints of Guiness, myself a Stella. One of them is charged $3 for a Guiness, the other $4 for a Guiness, and I'm charged $4 for a Stella. So my $3 buddy says keep it quiet, he's getting beers cheaper than normal. We say..coool. But after 3 beers, I had to ask. I'm like, so Stella's are $8 normally? The bartender (cute but obviously dumber than a doorknob) says no they're $6. I'm like $6..whoa..I've been paying $4 a pop plus $2 tips on each bottle. She's like well, I didnt have change and walks away. Meanwhile the bar is packed! Come on, you were busted! Rather than her say, "oooh my bad, next beer on me!" Or even I'm sorry.. she gives atttitude..so I ask to speak to the bar manager. She whispers in his ear, and vice versa, so it wouldnt surprise me if they were banging each other after shift. Anyway, I'm waiting like 15 minutes..i think he was hoping I would just leave. He comes over and asks if there's a problem. I tell him the whole story, and he's got absolutely no excuse in the world but at the same time still NO apologies. He gives me my $5 back , a business card and tells me I can do whatever I want. It's not the extra $1 I'm paying , but the principle. Charge EVERYONE the same price, this is called discrimination and they were called out on it. We left for another local bar and got a buy back after 1 beer! Bad music, corny crowd and rude bartenders.. be afraid, be very afraid!
Pros: The bartenders were cute. Good location on 2nd Ave.
Cons: Rude service... corny crowd... bad music... sketchy pricing for drinks.

(Almost) the worst place I have been to!
by pipster8
This place is awful! All I can say is don't go and waste your money here!
We took some friends who were visiting here on a Saturday night to eat and the service was slow and the waitress couldn't have been more disinterested in serving us. She took our order and then came back 15 minutes later to tell us that there was no more steak left (half the menu is steak) which 3 of us had ordered. She then rushed us into choosing something else. When the food did come out, there was a disgusting hair in one of our meals which had been mashed in. We complained and she did bring out another one but there was barely an apology. The food is ok but nothing brilliant. About 9.30pm, the place starts to fill up with more people and you literally feel like you are being watched eating and they just want you to leave so they can use the space to squeeze more people in. When we did get the check, the waitress had already added on 20% tip. We complained again and said we would only pay 15% - way too generous! She then asked with a pathetic surprised expression whether the service had been bad. Bad is an understatement. I would rather flush all my money down the toilet than ever go to this place again!! You have been warned!!
Pros: None
Cons: Everything!

DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING.
by lovesublime
I just wrote a review and I think the website crapped out so forgive me if this was posted twice. Im rather surprised the review says people in their late 20's-early 30s hung out here. We went last night and Id say the average age was 22. It looked like a fraternity party gone bad. The place was FILTHY, the crowd was immature, sloppy, falling all over themselves drunk, the music was so loud I thought my ears would implode. In at attempt to create excitement the bartenders urged all the drunk little tarts to dance on top of the bar. One girl fell backward and smashed her head. I think that was VERY irresponsible of the staff. This place was absolutely gross, the people there were gross, I wanted to go home and take a hot shower and disinfect myself when Ieft.
Pros: If you want to leave, cabs are plentiful.
Cons: Everything else.

Don't go!!!
by lily154
In a word: Awful. Although I don't know if that word can accurately sum up how bad this place is. Picture middle-aged couples getting down to the likes of "The Train," being shoved against the bar of an entirely uncharming pub to order a grossly overpriced pint, and music so loud it's impossible to carry on any semblance of a conversation. It's like the worst college party you went to, times 10.
Pros: Uh, none
Cons: Overpriced, packed to the brim, cheesy music, tacky bartender, lots of moms and dads, tourists

Cool Place
by mswfords
I've been to this bar a few times, and have always had a good time. It's in a great location, and has the BEST sweet potato fries ever. I recommend this place to young singles.
Pros: good location and good food
Cons: Small bar area

Did a company happy hour there, NEVER again!
by ronica34
Rude bartenders & wait staff. Service is lousy. The bartenders literally ask for tips. It's ridiculous. Hope this place closes down.
Pros: None that I can think of
Cons: The staff stinks

Amazing Happy Hours!
by kimber111
Happy Hours are the time to go... great crowd, fun music, and unbeatable drink specials... $10 top shelf open bar! Thurs 6pm is when it all gets going - the crowd gets crazier as the night goes on. Sometimes its almost too crowded - but just go there earlier in the week if you want a less packed place. Good drink specials on Fri/Sat as well.
Pros: Happy Hr Specials!
Cons: sometimes too crowded?

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!
by dyg201
I have never had a worse experience...I was there for the first time to watch the Mets game for the $25 drink special. The waitress wouldn't bring us drinks to the table (we had to get them ourselves at the crowded bar) and the bartenders ignored us. After we ordered our food the waitress tried to move us to a different table so we couldn't sit with our friends! She set our food down with no silverware and obviously no drink. To make matters worse, the waitress mouthed off to us after we refused to eat or pay for the food. She walked by my boyfriend and said "karma is a b*tch." After we agreed to pay (with the manager) she was up on the bar dancing, and looked at us and said "who has the last laugh?" Needless to say we did not pay and I will never go there again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The drink special isn't worth it because the bartenders do their best to ignore you and will ask for tips outright. I have never had anything like this happen to me- what happened to the customer is always right??
Pros: NONE
Cons: SERVICE

Always a fun times at McFadden's
by davidpsu
This place is nothing if not consistant. Been here many times and each time I go I always have a great time. The crowd is always lively, the food is always good, and the drinks are always affordable. Their happy hour is, in my opinion, one of the best in the neighborhood. Great place for a party! Definitely recommended.
Pros: Atmosphere, drinks, value

by uuf361
Awful!!!!!
When we walked in, we were ignored for almost 5 minutes then asked if we wanted our check!!!!!! We aksed for a table and the 'server' told us to wait aminute, then proceeded to have a chat on the phone to her friend and clear some dishes the another server seated us..........between them I don't think they could have been less attentive if they tried!
Food was good and order correct, but service stinks
Pros: Food, Empty
Cons: , Service, Service

Surprises...
by punky21
I thought this place was the "it" spot for after work drinks but when I showed up on a Tuesday night... it was empty. There were only two girls in the place (not including the waitresses or myself) out of the two dozen people. Maybe I should try this place on a Saturday night, instead.
They have two for one appetizers on Tuesdays, which is perfect. Their food was surprisingly great. We had the crabcakes and the assorted vegetable appetizers and they were very yummy. The beers were $5.50 which is an average price.
Pros: location, two for tuesdays

The Only Place to Go
by divacnfp
the food is much better than you'd expect for a midtown pub, and the weekend parties are always crazy, but the service was probably the best. the waitresses are cool and will chat with you and be honest - and they're hot! hello!

Great for parties!
by delphica
I'm a big fan of McFadden's, it's a friendly place and the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. Their food has been consistantly good when I've been there, and the drinks are a generous pour. The menu is basic but provides all the required pub food. The service is well-intentioned, but sometimes not as efficient as one would like. The best thing about McFadden's is that they are excellent for private parties or groups -- very accomodating and will work with you to meet your needs for price and other arrangements. Very un-snooty.
Pros: friendly, close to subway, clean
Cons: iffy service

I had my birthday party here last Saturday and it was awesome!!! The music at this place was great, seventies, eighties, Bruce, dance, I did not stop dancing for the whole time and both Sarah and Rebecca hooked up with bartenders! It is an awesome party spot everyone should check out!

Cons: Line

A Good Irish Bar
by MADwyer5
I dont go for the candle lit backgrounds or the overwhelming smell of "Drakkar Noir" I like beer and beer likes me. McFaddens and its friendly, attentive staff helps facilitate my beer drinking process to the smooth melodies of old school hip hop, with an occassional U2 or Cranberries interlude. Basically if you want to go with a few good friends throw back a some pints, while looking at some hot kindergarten teachers, McFaddens is your place!
Pros: Beer, Service, Beer
Cons: crowded

Good Time
by Enodnim
I had a great time at Mc Fadden's. The line sucked but once we got in there we drank a whole lot. The bar staff was really friendly to my group, and this was a Saturday night. All in all if you want to go and drink beer and shots, this is a good place to go. If you want to dance and drink martinis try one of these other midtown guido meat facotries...
Pros: No Guidos, Good Bar, Friendly Staff
Cons: Line, Kind of Crowded

Sucks
by Vodka_Tonic
This bar is terrible. Two years ago, Saturday nights used to be so much fun. I went in there just recently and the bar staff was rude, they did not know how to serve drinks and they even lost my friends credit card for 45 minutes.
Cons: slow

Laid Back and Fun!
by NYCGal123
I can't speak to the food because I have never eaten there, but as a fun, laid-back bar to hang out with friends, meet people and dance, McFaddens is one of my favorite places. I'm annoyed at the $5 cover now being charged on Sat nights, but they can get away with it because it really is that much fun. I've never been disappointed with the music here-- it somehow gives this bar just the right mix of festive and frat-party.

The WORST - Never Again
by Anonymous_patron
The worst dining experience of my life. Literally 30 min. for the drink orders to come after giving us lame excuse about how the ice tea is the problem for the wait, another 30 min. for the food to arrive after that. Then the waitress had the nerve to add a 20% gratuity when we were only a group of 5. Waste of time and money.
Cons: Dumb waitress, Elusive Manager, Flat Soda machine
