5 Stars: Great place for any meal (by GG190)

I have been to Philip Marie for their brunch and dinner a couple times and always enjoyed.
They recently changed most of their menu and to my surprise I easily replaced my favorite meals there (though they did keep most my favorite appetizers).
I had an salmon & chive burger that was delicious and my boyfriend had a cream of tomato soup and open steak sandwich. We were both very pleased.
Our waitress was great and she had served us before so we had fun chatting with her.
My friends and I love it @ Philip Marie and it represents the classic nyc village restaurants you read about. Hope the reviewers stop in and have the same enjoyable experiences we have had!

4 Stars: Beautiful (by Winchester2pack)

Stopped in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. We were seated quickly and ordered wine as it seemed to be what most people were doing. Though we don't know a whole lot about wine we knew we wanted a white zin and the waitress suggested a great one for us. The menu is very interesting and varied which is a huge plus for me because I normally get stuck ordering the same old meals. But in this case I had a hard time deciding. I had a chicken breast with brie and pesto and it was excellent. We said we would come back and were told to come for brunch so we will! Thanks Philip Marie

2 Stars: Fancy for no reason (by LuckyCharm09)

Yesterday me and my husband went there because of citysearch reviews and thier menu online. When we got there, we found out that they changed the entire menu and made the prices higher. Inspite of this, we ordered mussels and salmon entree. The mussels were okay, nothing special. But the salmon turned out to be horrible, we cook it at home much better even though we are not cooks. So what are they so priced up? To look just fancy?

1 Stars: Dreadful (by biggmakk64)

May be the worst food I've ever had in NYC (tied with nearby Tartine). I don?t know where the rave reviews come from; perhaps there are two Philip Maries in the area and I just happened to have gone to the wrong one.

Food was bland, poorly prepared and over-priced. My Mediterranean sea bass had a muddy freshwater fish taste (my guess it was tilapia). The fish was uncooked in the middle and was covered in some type of brown sweet sauce - strange combination. I sent it back and got the salmon instead, which too was awful.

The duck breast was too lean and overcooked; tasted like rubber disks, again with an inappropriate sauce. The oysters Rockefeller were soggy with no flavor.

There are many good restaurants in the West Village. I advise you to avoid this one.

5 Stars: Lovely setting and elegant food (by anitaL)

Just came home from a great meal. We were a group of eight coming together from all over the world and we were all impressed with the preparation and beautiful presentation of the food here. The service was also friendly and attentive. Can't remember when I last had such an all-around good experience.

5 Stars: Saturday Brunch (by ADorsey64)

It may be a little crowded on Saturday's, but it's brunch in NYC, so you can't really ask for a quiet atmosphere. Other than the noise it was a great brunch. The food was amazing, and good portion sizes too. The service was great, our waitress was very nice, and checked up on us the perfect amount of times. And I never had to ask for more water or mimosa's, it was just always their. I'll make it a point to come here often for brunch in the city.

5 Stars: Awesome Food! (by otoolemeredith162)

I came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a Sunday and it was their Sunday night barbeque special. My boyfriend got the catfish with mac&cheese and greens and I tried some, it was delicious. I didn't do the BBQ deal, but I did get the Mediterranean Sea Bass which was, honestly, the best meal I've had all year. Will definitely be coming back, and would like to try their brunch.

5 Stars: Romantic Restaurant, Great for Dates (by Scatone)

Philip Marie is a wonderful restaurant in the West Village. The food is amazing and the chefs specialties are fantastic! The service was pretty good. Great place for a Romantic evening. I know I got my money's worth and I felt like i was treated more than fair. I will definitely be back here. They also do Brunch which I think we will check out next time.

5 Stars: Perfect for couples (by Aria64)

I went here with my boyfriend to enjoy a nice meal before walking around manhattan all night. The food was great, I had the artichoke stuffed chicken, and he had the special of the day: flatiron steak. Both dishes were great, and then we shared the pumpkin fritters..even more delicious. It is now are favorite place to go out for dinner whenever we are in manhattan

5 Stars: Delicious Food & Romantic Atmosphere (by SHearn)

I brought my girlfriend here on a Brunch date and it was fantastic! They had outdoor seating and on top of the brunch being one of the best i've had in a long time it came with unlimited bloody marys. The server was funny and nice and checked on us the perfect amount of times (which is surprisingly rare). We stayed for drinks after eating and almost considered staying for their BBQ the same day (I guess it is every sun) but we had full satisfied stomachs so we will be trying that in the next couple of weeks. Thanks Philip Marie.

1 Stars: Horrible! (by nycmusakman1114)

I went here for lunch today . The restaurant was not crowded yet we had the worst experience imaginable.

1st i was told the Coca Cola soda gun was not working. then the waitress could not figure out who ordered what and could not understand English. She would put plates down and then take away. just to come back minutes later with the same burgers. a few folks were served and finished before the rest of us were even served.
I finally received my burger well after everyone else were done eating and it was raw. not rare but raw although i ordered Medium. one meal never even made it out until 20 minutes after we were all done eating and had to remind the waiter it was ordered.

This place was horrible. I would stay away.

5 Stars: Wonderful Village Restaurant (by ElClarke)

I recently went to Philip Marie and found out their special of the day was a four course wine tasting. My party (a little reluctant at first not knowing how the portions would be) finally decided to do it. It was amazing! It included wild boar ravioli and a roasted leg of lamb that were absolutely delicious. And though i don't know that much about wines i loved the whole process of tasting while they describe them. The atmosphere was cozy and we all had a great time.

5 Stars: Staying power (by DrGrandma40)

I've been going to Philip Marie about six times a year for seven years, though I don't live in the neighborhood.. I love it--inside, outdoors, any time of day or year, for lunch, brundh, dinner. The menu is interesting, wine list is super, the service is always pleasant, and I love to take out of towners there for a "real New York bistro" experience. My favorite at lunchtime is the parsley salad with ham. What a great idea! And so delicious.
Thanks, Philip, and thanks, Marie. (I wish I remembered your first names.)

5 Stars: FANTASTIC!! (by Snuggynyc)

I have been dining in the village for many years now and Philip Marie is by far my favorite restaurant.
The food is magnificent (my personal favorite being the baked brie appetizer) and is pleasant to look at as well taste. Their dinner items include everything from inside-out burgers to maine lobster ravioli. I have brought everyone i know from friends to family and they have all been more than satisfied.
The decor is beautiful and i recommend taking a date to dinner in their private tasting room. It doesn't get more romantic than this (quoted by my girlfriend after our dinner)
The staff is incredibly pleasant and professional and will not hesitate to help you decide on a fantastic wine from their large selection.
Anyone looking for an excellent night out should go to Philip Marie

4 Stars: Solid Neighborhood Restaurant - A Keeper (by 2VillageGirls)

Well girlfriend, it was another Thursday and we chose Philip Marie as our place for drinks and starters. This was a good choice. Firstly, the barkeep was friendly and invited us in, making us feel perfectly at home. We came before it became crowded and so we had him to ourselves, however, he was still very attentive even as the restaurant filled up. Clearly a popular place. And we could see why. We had 2 plates: the smoked salmon with goats cheese on toasts was a winner. Simple and perfectly balanced. Then we tried the quesadilla which was spectacular - gooey in all the right places, but with grilled chicken that stood up to the melted cheese and soft and (not too filling) tortilla. The wine was good and the mixed drinks (vodka and selzer) were standard. This is a great neighborhood place.

5 Stars: Awesome Wine Room (by lilluckycharm)

Last week my boyfriend took me to Phillip Marie for our one year anniversary. We dined in their private wine room in the lower level of the restaurant. We had five courses, and each was paired with a different wine. Our server guided us through the whole meal and was very knowlegable. The courses were varied and paired very well with the wine. My boyfriend and I have both traveled to Napa and we were impressed by the selection of California wines. The lighting in the room was a little too dim and romantic. Fortunately, the menu was dictated to us by our server. Overall, it was a lovely experience and would definitely return.

5 Stars: Always wonderful!!! (by DavidHfromNwk)

I've been to Phillip Marie for dinner, for lunch, for brunch, and for a large party special occasion. In every case, the service was friendly but unobtrusive, the ambience was pleasant and the food was impeccable. They manage to accomplish all this without robbing you blind. Sure it's not super-fine dining, but this is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC nonetheless. If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be there at least 3 times a week. Fantastic!

2 Stars: Stay away from the couples private room (by Luna1111)

My husband and I opted for the couples private room dinner (wine room) for our anniversary and it was such a waste of money. The place was so cramped and hot and suffocating. People kept coming down to the bathroom, which was right next to our room, and standing in the doorway peeking in. It was not romantic, but instead irritating and annoying. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. It's a nice idea but it does not work well.

5 Stars: The Best Value for the Wine Tastings on Thursdays (by bamboo52)

This has been the best experience of my life!!! The wines that were chosen were so well paired with little plates. For only $25 per person with 5 tastings, where else can you find something like that??? The service is superb, from the knowledgeable staff and the attentive busboys and the lovely manager there! Finally, me and my boyfriend found a hot spot that we'll be going back for more and more! I cant wait to go back again!

4 Stars: The wine room is lovely (by spuffylover24)

I took my fiance here a couple of weeks ago for a private birthday dinner in the wine room. We did have to wait a little while (15 mins or so), but the staff was very friendly about it and comped our drinks at the bar. The wine room is small and lovely. The bottles of wine, candlelight and soft music create a beautiful atmosphere. It really felt like a special occasion. Our server was very helpful and accommodating as we selected our menu and the food, though not the most creative, was very good. The wine pairings were great, and we had a lovely time. The restaurant itself seems really quaint and we will definitely go again just to eat from the regular menu. For the personal attention and beautiful atmosphere the wine room is a great value.

4 Stars: Good food, good music (by tazelo)

I made reservation at Philip Marie on a Wednesday night, jazz night and it was just perfect. The four of us took an appetizer which was very good. We had some bread and olive oil while we were waiting. Then I had the shrimps and the others had the steak and everything was very good. The music was nice, not too loud, just perfect.
I would recommand this restaurant to anyone.

5 Stars: A Charming Wonderful Restaurant (by lfkohn)

I agree 100% with aleighc. My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful dining experience in the Wine Room. Everything was perfect, the food was excellent, and the staff was 5-star. This is one of the very best restaurants we have been to in over 20 years in New York. And we go to a lot of restaurants!

1 Stars: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! (by WolfBrad)

I ordered a salad that was supposed you have lots of yummy ingredients in it, but it was all lettuce and the salad dressing was an unusual shade of pink. The bus boy poured water in my soda, and I was never given a new one. For 2 soups and 2 salads (all lettuce) it was over $50. Don't waste your time in the tourist restaurant. SO NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!

5 Stars: Most romantic dining experience yet! (by aleighc)

My husband and I ate in the private wine cellar (for 2 people). The 5 course dinner was fantastic, the wines served with each course were perfectly paired with the food and the service was top notch. They even had a great selection of music playing through an i-pod stereo & you can even bring your own i-pod. All in all a truly wonderful and memorable dining experience I will not soon forget!

5 Stars: Great brunch - delicious food and attentive staff (by joryl34)

I had no idea what kind of place this was before arriving there for brunch. I had a great experience. The restaurant is not pretentious, the food looks and tastes delicious. The portions are huge and the prices a bargain. The staff was very attentive and kept refilling our drinks although the place was completely packed.

I decided to try this restaurant after it was recommended by a friend with great taste and I was really happy I did! My boyfriend and I went to celebrate a special occasion and we were really impressed with the cozy decor, fabulous wine and a really friendly server. The food was fantastic and because the prices were surprisingly reasonable we splurged on appetizers, and desert. Overall it was a great night and we definitely look forward to coming back soon.

I came to Phillip Marie for a very special dinner for two and could not have been happier with the whole experience! The hostess, Meg, was absolutely lovely and helped me to arrange for some special touches to be added to the table. The food was amazing and the ambiance was lovely. I HIGHLY recomend Phillip Marie for any occasion. It is a wonderful establishment.

1 Stars: Disappointing in so many ways. (by kc52)

I'm not usually one to write a bad review...in fact this is my first time. But the overall experience here was severely poor. First we sat forever waiting for someone to greet us, our bottle of wine took another 10 minutes to arrive. Our server could not answer any of our questions about the menu. Then five out of our six entrees arrived without an explanation as to why one was missing. The person who delivered the food simply left. About five minutes later the server noticed we were missing an entree and ran to the kitchen to check it out. They came back with a side salad and an apology because the last meal was no where near ready. To top it off the food was not good. They are under the impression that every food is better with cornmeal, i disagree!! I will not be returning!

5 Stars: Best Dinner & Brunch in West Village! (by ElectronBlue)

Philip Marie is truly one of those great dining destinations you simply want the world to know about. In the past five years I have dined here on at least 25 occasions, each time with a guest or a group -- and every single person has fallen in love. You can't go wrong with dinner here -- and PM also boasts probably the best Sunday Jazz Brunch in downtown NYC (I'm a big bruncher and have been many, many places). Exec Chef John Greco's menu boasts 'Innovative American Cusine' and that's definitively what it is -- it's an expansive menu with ever-changing daily specials and the fish and fowl dishes are incomparable. I had never tried elk prior to dining here (or wild boar) and each was simply outstanding. Two dishes NOT to be missed are the fried green tomatoes w/ spicy mayonnaise -- a lovely, flavorful rustic appetizer -- and the pumpkin fritters w/ warm wet walnuts (John's own creation + recipe). If you're a big fan of Sunday brunch, you MUST visit PM for their unlimited Bloody Mary Sunday jazz brunch -- it's simply the best in the West Village and probably one of the best bangs for your buck, ever -- $19.95 that is more than well-spent. The bunch selection menu alone parallels Homer's Illyiad in size, from standard brunch fare to PM originals like the delicious lobster fajita (warning: HUGE). And the bloody marys are some of the best made. Staff and service at PM are thorough, efficient without being too much in your face.

All in all, if you're missing out on Philip Marie, you're missing out on memorable, sumptuous dining in the heart of NYC's West Village. Run, don't walk. And bring friends!

1 Stars: very disappointing (by kate1218)

This is the first time I've rated a restaurant. The good reviews were what led me to try this restaurant....and I was very disappointed. The crab cakes were very dry and tasteless with the consistency of sawdust. The fried green tomatoes were also very dry. Both appetizers came with the same orange sauce-not tasty. We ordered two specials which did not have prices listed and were significantly more expensive than most things on the menu. I had the basa (fish) which was served in a very unappetizing manner. The taste and consistency were off. Both the fish and the elk (which my husband ordered) were served on a huge mound of squash...orange again. It was a strange accompaniment for fish. The service was spotty and there was a party of about 20 children (young) in the back. Overall, a bad choice. I don't understand the good reviews I've read,

A couple of weeks ago my friends and I were passing by on our way to a bar when we saw a sign for wine tastings on Thursdays. We were intrigued so we went inside. The bar was full but the manager was kind enough to come over and seat us at a table. The wines were amazing and the hors d'oeuvres were perfectly paired! We had so much fun that we stayed all night and I have been back three times since! Each time I go the food is consistently good and the staff is so welcoming.

We stumbled upon this spot when we were looking for a place to have brunch. It is very cute/quaint and would make a good date spot. The menu was not bad for brunch/lunch... after I saw the chocolate chip pancakes, I knew what would be going into my tummy that very second. The pancakes were huge and were very rich due to the milk chocolate.. what other would you want them anyway? Besides the space being just a bit tight, that's all I can say about this great lunch spot!

As much as I don't want to devulge my brunch pick, I've picked up plenty of cues from Citysearch so have decided to share. The cocktail brunch is a great bargin at 16.99. Cocktails sometimes have a little bit of a bark and bite to them....guess it depends on who is mixing that day but, the breakfast is delicious.
5 Stars: Great food, wonderful location, friendly service (by girlykat)

My boyfriend and I went to Philip Marie for dinner on Sunday night. I had the crab cakes and the lobster ravioli. He had the parsley salad and chicken stuffed with artichoke. The crab cakes were incredibly moist and came with a delicious chunky tomato salsa. My lobster ravioli was very good as well, especially the tomato cream sauce. I had a bit of my boyfriend's chicken and plan to order it the next time we go.

We sat outside but I am anxious to go again and see the inside of the restaurant. Also, our server was very friendly and colloquial. The only drawback was that we had to wait a few minutes to get our bill once we were finished eating; however, our water glasses were refilled several times even though we were no longer ordering food or drinks.

Wow! My date and I went to Philip Marie on saturday night for a birthday celebration. The server came over soon after we were sat for our drink order. Not but a couple of minutes later the drinks were at our table. rest This was a prelude of the rest of the night. The server was so nice and easy going. The food was reasonably priced (for the village) and tasted amazing. They had a pretty good wine and drink selection as well. But what really made our night was how polite the staff was for us. What a great birthday dinner at a tried and true west village neighborhood spot. Good food, good prices, nice staff, without the stuffiness.

the service was awesome with the servers making us feel like family, they customised the menu, gave us exactly what we were craving, it was great.
the hostess that night was incredible, it was busy, but the place is run by pros!!!

4 Stars: It's worth it to do the private table at least once (by creativelolita)

It was my fiance's b-day and I wanted to go all out. I knew he wanted to take me here so I decided to surprise him. Their wine room was booked for the evening but the manager decided to allow us to have the tasting room. It was GORGEOUS and very romantic. 5 courses, 5 wines. You have your own kitchen and create the menu.

Here are my thoughts:

Fondue- Don't bother. It's cheese in a small bowl, not real fodue. The cheese is not that good.

The Boar- Excellent and I am not a "boar" kind of woman.

Fish- Decent

Sides- Garlic mashed potatoes, risotto and mashed sweet potatos are to die for.

Wines are top notch and paired perfectly. You aren't being served house wines here.

Note: They offer you a port and coffee at the end but do not tell you these are not included.

Dessert- The tres leches was one of the best I have ever had in or out of Mexico.

Though they say "195.00" for both, that's not accurate. The total bill 280.00 for everything. You have to give them a 50.00 deposit and that covers the 20% gratuity they add. Keep that in mind when making reservations.

Oh and Please note: Would I eat here not in the private room? Probobly not.

From the moment I walked in the door I felt right at home. The warm and sincere reception that I recieved from the hostess was maintained by the staff during my entire visit. I opted to sit at the bar since I was by myself and ended up having a great time with the attentive bartender and staff. Everyone was knowledgable and gave thier recommendations for both food and wine. Everything I had was excellant. The food was delicious, well proportioned and served timely. I ended up staying much later than I had planned. I would highly recommend Philip Marie. It was so refreshing to have dinner in such a elegant but casual atmosphere where both the food and service were top notch but the prices were extremely reasonably.

2 Stars: Never Again (by elysrose)

After hearing some friends rave about the great food and moderate prices, my husband and I could not resist. Sadly we were so extremely disappointed. The restaurant was not all it was cracked up to be in fact I would venture to say that it was nothing short of a glorified diner. The silver wear was not clean, and there was an overpowering stench coming from an undetermined place. The food was defiantly unremarkable. I would NOT recommend eating at this establishment in the future, and I am shocked to hear that it has been open for quite a few years who let that one slip?! Diners be ware.

Amazing atmosphere and featuring incredible tastes and attention to detail. I always have great service and fine cusine. In addition to the fabulous menu, there are always innovative specials making it so hard to decide what to select.

I dont know what that person was talking about. Maybe she or he was having a bad day. I LOVE the brunch, its great food, affordable and i think the jazz band was fantastic. Where else can you get sweet potato pancakes?!?!?! Its a bit crowded, but welcome to NYC BRUNCH!!!!! I say go there and find out for yourself. My wife and I simply love it!!

1 Stars: Why why WHY is this place recommended for brunch?! Or for anything? (by dkg222)

I specifically made a reservation here for brunch because Citysearch recommended it as one of the 10 best (!?) brunch spots. I will never trust a Citysearch recommendation again, because this place offered an utterly mediocre brunch. Not even mediocre, but just plain BAD. The quality of food was identical to what I would get at my local diner, and the presentation was just as unlovely. The service was poor. My blueberry pancakes tasted like baking powder, my friend's scrambled eggs looked as if they were just scraped off a cafeteria grill and slid onto her plate, the waitress forgot our orange juice and maple syrup and had to be reminded to go get them. I can't believe I actually went out of my way to go to brunch here, and I was actually embarrassed that I had offered to treat my friend to brunch and THIS was what I treated her to. I am convinced that this restaurant has enlisted friends of the owners to concoct positive reviews for Citysearch in order to bring in business---which wouldn't even be such a bad thing if the food and service lived up in any way to the "hype." Don't be fooled by the jazz band either--although I enjoyed the music, the restaurant is rather too small for a loud jazz band, and it hardly makes up for the utterly lackluster food and service.

5 Stars: A great spot for a date (by abek)

What an adorable restaurant. For those of you who don't enjoy the cozy ambience of a 200 seat dining room, Philip Marie offers an intimate setting which, in my humble opinion, serves as the perfect spot for a date. The food and wine were superb, with service to match. If you are looking for a romantic, cozy restaurant with great food and stellar service, you have to give this place a serious look.

4 Stars: smelly sidewalk, sweet servers (by julietinthecity)

I was a bit suckered by the fabulous reviews...thinking this was a well kept secret. Living in Ct and traveling to the city work and fun.....always want to try something new. To spite my less than glowing review (food quite nice if a little boring, very stinky sidewalk aroma, wobbly table, bad champagne...nothing really remarkable) I understand WHY new yorkers would love this place. It is low key, food is homestylish & it is affordable. I admit, I was looking for a little more excitement...but the kind hostess & waiter sent us down the street to EO, and the evening was finished with the scene and energy we crave in NY. I give it a 7.

5 Stars: Incredible food at incredible price (by alicia26)

My friend and I went here after she ran the half marathon last weekend and we were starving. The food was served quickly and it was DELICIOUS!! The brunch menu was fantastic, and the mimosa (sat.) and bloody mary (sun.) brunch specials are an incredible bargain. I can't believe the prices are so reasonable for such fantastic food. The jazz music was the perfect touch for relaxing and you can rarely find such a charming and spacious area in the city - for once I didn't feel like I was slammed up against another person next to me. The manager was very helpful and came to check on our meals, and they have great weekly specials. Looking forward to my next visit!

5 Stars: one of our favorite restaurants in the city (by manhattan_mom)

My husband and I foudn Philip Marie in the fall of 1999. For lunch we shared a sandwich and salad, with an amazing hazelnut chocolate cake (don't think they serve this anymore). Perfect. We returned for dinner a few weeks later and we continue to eat there as often as possible. The private room for 2 was our anniversary present to ourselves after the birth of our son. AMAZING!!! The service and food and wine pairings were amazing. Brunch is also fabulous. Kids are easily accomodated too.

5 Stars: Great food! (by emem8700)

The entrees there are extremely unique. They are not plates that you would expect in every other American restaurant. There are also exquisite names for most of the dishes, such as "Dancing Shrimp." I've been there 5 times with my boyfriend now and it has became "our" restaurant. Despite my love for this Philip Marie, the food is falling slightly below my initial impression of it. Service quality depends on the waiter. There was also a recent incident in which my boyfriend's mother got a deep cut on her finger while closing the bathroom door. Overall, Philip Marie is a great place for a nice dinner. I will definitely go back for a 6th time, but I will stay away from the bathroom and any cranky waiters.

5 Stars: Been eating there for a decade (by charles63)

I'm an old man for crying out loud and have lived and eaten in over a hundred countries in this world and all over this country.

Let me tell you that there isn't a place on this earth where I have experienced, in my not-so-humble opinion, consistently superb food and excellent service.

John Greco is a genius (I should know).

One afternoon Mel Brooks was at the next table and telling John's wife how much he enjoyed the food. So I interrupted and asked, "It is really fantastic, isn't it?" He chimed back, "And the price is right, I'll tell ya!" And that is an additional perk, and comes directly from Mel and me!

So listen to me. Go to Philip Marie. Tell them I sent you. Ask for Herb, but don't believe a thing he says about me -- I'm a very nice person. And if you don't believe me, ask John Greco. Did i mention the guy is a genius? He's got a way with a spatula that's spectacula!

5 Stars: Amazing Date Destination (by jcdolphin7)

Last night I went on a date at Philip Marie. Can I say it was fantastic. The food was possibly the best that we have ever ate. We started with an amazing warm mozzarella salad(to die for). We then shared the Lobster spring roll (the freshest that I have ever had). For our entrees we had a most tender wild boar and the most melt in your mouth lamb shank. The server that we had was so professional. He knew exactly what wines to pair with each course. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone who has never been. I also must say to make a reservation because the place does fill up. My sincere compliments to the chef and staff for a wonderful evening.

4 Stars: Unbelievable Wine cellar dining for 2 (by coax)

We found PM when we purchased a Wine Cellar Dinner for Two that John had donated to a Cancer Care Auction. After having a couple of great lunches and a fabulous Australian wine tasting dinner, we finally tried the private dinner in the wine cellar - WOW! We cannot wait to do it again; dozens of friends we have sent there have only raved.

5 Stars: fantastic ambiance, friendly customer service, very reasonable prices (by eatskisleep)

This place is a fantastic little gem for all to enjoy. The hosts/owners are very friendly and they instill that quality in their servers. The food is a unique mix of cajun, american, and even some french flavors. Try the singing scallops if you are lucky enough to be there on a night where they aren't sold out or out of season. There is a private dining room in the basement, where the old colonial kitchen used to be, really a very comfortable spot. The best tables are at or near the front windows, but the whole place has "comfortable" quality to it. I have eaten there quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Bon appetit!

5 Stars: Worth repeat visits!! (by briarbruin)

We visit NYC at least twice a year and always try to have dinner at PM at least once during our visit. The service is always professional yet friendly which creates a comfortable, relaxing dining experience. I find the food to be inventive and at the same time very satisfying with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. All in all, an experience worth repeating even though we only visit a few times a year.

5 Stars: Great Cinco de Mayo!! (by e61st)

We stopped here on the way to another restaurant because they had 2 for 1 drinks and thought we'd try it out. The bartender could not have been nicer (or cuter) and gave us 2 coupons for a free bottle of wine for next time. After trying to get into every Mexican place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo we decided to use our coupon at Philip Marie and couldn't have been happier. We sat outside on a beautiful night, the staff was so friendly, the food was great, and the wine was wonderful. I got the dancing shrimp and the next time I think I'll get them again and get the singing scallops to accompany them. : ) Can't wait to try the brunch.

Philip Marie is always great. You can always count on excellent service, excellent food, a nice variety of food, a wonderful jazz brunch, a comfortable open-airy atmosphere, really nice people and staff, and just an overalll fresh invigorating experience. The tasting room downstairs looks like a great place for an event. The food is fantastic. Try the white chocolate french toast or the farmers omlette....

My boyfriend come here a lot in the summer when we can sit outside. For lunch we often split the BLT (the best BLT I have ever had) and a fruit plate. For dinner we love the muscles, the scallops and the wild boar. The service is hit-or-miss and sometimes just bizarre, but the food is always excellent. I am pleased to have this restaurant in our neighborhood.

We've lived in New York for 10 years and haven't had a brunch experience as bad as this one. The coffee came cold, our waitress was in her sweats (eating a pear no less!), the staff spent most of the time eating breakfast at a separate table and neglecting customers, and the food was just god awful. Anything interesting on the menu? Sorry, they were out of it. Never again.

As a native new yorker I 1) know a deal when I see one and 2) know when food is as it should be. This restaurant blows me away everytime I go there. I live in the neighborhood, go at least once a week, and am never disappointed. From the courteous staff to the amazing food, I am never disappointed. If you haven't been here you are really missing out. They also have two awesome private dining rooms they I am dying to try. Enjoy!!

5 Stars: So good, we eat here frequently (by Martrese)

My husband and I dine hear at least twice a month. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lovely, and the service very attentive. The decor is a little cheesy (gotta get rid of the murals, tree branches, and tapestry drapes), but the place feels warm and inviting. Be sure to check out the private dining areas downstairs - lovely table for two in the wine vault and the private party room toward the front of the property. Just delightful! (I'd like to recommend the squid ink lobster-filled ravioli in tomato cream sause - my favorite!!)

5 Stars: A Breath of Fresh Air (by l84dnr)

This place was amazing! After a terrible appetizer/drinks experience a few blocks away, we stumbled upon this oasis of welcoming staff, great service, awesome martinis and to-die-for desserts. The dining room looks cozy and romantic with candle lamps at every table, but our raucous party of 10 was welcomed with open arms and made to feel right at home. The staff - even those who had no expectation of receiving a tip - were attentive, friendly and solicitous. The biscotti gelato and carrot cake were amazing. I can't wait to try the jazz brunch.
Definitely the best kept secret in the Village!

4 Stars: Pleasantly surprised (by eat_drink_sleep)

I came here with some friends and knew nothing about it other than the owners' middle names were put together to sound french but it was an american restaurant - and I was a little worried. Turns out that was the last thing I needed to be. We sat at this cozy booth by the window and had wonderful food with great service. They were out of a couple of items we ordered so they comped a bottle of wine - very nice gesture on their part.

I hear that there are a couple of nice dining rooms downstairs that also have quite a history - including a tunnel to the White Horse Tavern (dating back to prohibition).

I think this is a good place to bring a date or even the parents. Not too expensive, good food and cozy for being as crowded as it was.

4 Stars: Yum, with decent enough service (by dave920)

I went with three others for an early (5pm) dinner on a Saturday. Seated promptly with our reservation, though our waiter seemed pretty unconfident (or was it incompetant?). Luckily the busboys and other servers all pitched in to bring us our dishes and clear the table. Three of us had the red snapper, while the fourth had a sweet chicken dish (all on the menu I believe, not specials). All of us enjoyed our meal, and for the price (~$185, w/ tax&tip, 2 bottles of wine, 1 appetizer each, plus entrees) it was pretty impressive. Ambiance: romantic, plus a cozy feel (and not the "cozy" used to describe small apartments). Would definitely return.

Last night my husband and I dined at Philip Marie. A friend of ours had given us a gift certificate to the wine room. It was absolutely beautiful. The chef who is a bundle of personality came to tell us all about the special menu for the wine room. He told us that whatever we wanted could be prepared it was just a matter of deciding. I chose the lobster it was decadent. My husband went for the wild boar. We will definetely be returning and buying gift certificates for the friends who got us hooked.

After dipping into corner bistro twice to check on the line and deciding that no hamburger is worth 30 minutes in a crowded line I wandered into this place. It's a delightful little "Bistro" style restaurant. The menu looked good as did the price, and they also had a "steak burger" which sounded about my speed. Though the food took a while to arrive is was perfect beyond imagination. The sevice was better than anywhere I have ever been to and the food was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a gem.

5 Stars: great re-discovery!! (by ieattoomuch)

Re-discovered this place after my girlfriend suggested we go. Met her there and realized I'd eaten there years ago. Remembered a great meal outside with friends on a beautiful spring night.
Food was much better than I'd expected, I had roasted boar. Wine was wonderful, service was great, and the atmosphere was delightful. A fantastic place. Can't wait to go for the jazz brunch!
