First ended up not holding the food down. Decided to give it a second chance I looked like the girl from the exorcist in the end. Might have been the tzatziki sauce or something. Thanks but no thanks for the third time !!!

Anything you may be craving Greek is on the menu here.
Cooked like Mom makes it, everything I ordered here was awsome. Service was fast and courteous. Compared to other restaurants in the area prices are very reasonable.
Staff is very friendly. Overall great Experience, It has been a while since I stopped in but definetely going back soon.

I'm living in Astoria for 9 years and i tried this restaurant for dinner last week with a friend.First we didn't feel welcome in this restaurant because the staff didn't care of us.I ordered some roasted pork and the meat was very dried, disgusting and no taste. It looked like they served us the "familly meal"...i'm very serious!!!Even my dog will never eat it.It's the first time i'm writing a review on a restaurant in NY on 9 years, and i had some bad experience in the past, but was ok.This one is the WORST!!! And if i can say a last thing: poeple who let a very good appreciation about this restaurant are certainely friends or relative with the owner or the staff working in this place. This restaurant should close for ever!!!

Right in the heart of an industrial and residential lively shopping area. I like the service. cheaper the most other greek places in the area. I like the musaka and the pestesia, tatste something like italian lasagna, just a bit creamier. Italian/greek food taste similar, b/c both countries are located nearby each other accross the river fork. Hot coffees are good. They make my meals exactly the way I want it. It could be a bit crowded especially at nightfall, but no long lines.
You never walk out hungry, nautious, or sick here.......
The beers are amazing.

Pros: Best greek resturaunt in Astoria/Long Island City

Cons: Prices and place can be alittle bit cleaner

I have ordered roasted lamb and gyro platter. First, potato that came with lamb was sour and uncooked, and lamb looked like it was cooked in water, not roasted; greasy, smelly, sour, and hard. I took bait and spew out. And gyro was even bigger disappointment. Most of the Greek restaurants in Astoria serve real gyro, with real chunks of meat, however Uncle George serve prefabricated tasteless gyros loaves, made of ground meat pressed into a cylinder and cooked. I couldn??t touch it even I was very hungry. I was there in 2003 and they were fine, but I am not going to step in that restaurant anymore.

No better place than Uncle George's exists for a taste of true Greek food in the heart of Astoria. Whether you're up for waiting for a table for dinner, or there late at night after you've been out for a few drinks, you'll find something delicious to eat here. A definite recommendation if you're in the area!

Uncle George's has the best authentic greek food around. Being Greek i know what greek food is supposed to taste like and this is it. I drive from Jersey at least once a month to eat at uncle Georges with my friends and family. I highly recommend the melitsanosalata, the Fried Calamarakia, Athirinia, Octapodaki, and salad for appitizers. For main courses highly recommended is the Arni (Lamb) sto forno, and there oven potatoes (they melt in your mouth).

I've heard plenty about this place and today finally tried it. I won't dwell on service for too long, because no one really expects this sort of mom-and-pop place to have outstanding service, however, here the staff is on the brink of ignoring you. One appetizer came, the other followed 10 minutes later and 2 minutes before main courses have made it out. My request for tomato sauce or ketchup was never satisfied. Pork souvlaki was unbelievably dry, fries were over-fried dust, baby bbq lamb was fatty, bony and thoroughly unappetizing. Fried calamari were quite bad. The only thing I liked was the saganaki but it doesn't take a genius to deep fry a piece of cheese albeit a good piece.

I heard management brought a new chef so my wife and I decided to give it a shot despite it's bad reviews and reputation. Not sure what it was like before but the experience was phenomenal. My personal opinion: the most important part of a restaurant are the seating and the food. Both were exceptional. Prompt service, quick and responsive. The food was out of this world. Combined with a bottle of wine there's no way anyone would be disappointed. Looks like the new chef did the trick. I'm planning on bringing potential clients to this restaurant for my business too.

There is one of the worst restaurants I've to. The waiter cort and unhelpful, what I could understand of him. The baby lamb quote barbaque was bland, cold and had obiouly been sitting, not too mention the fact it looked like a pile of ... My high school cafetreria had more ambiance. It's hard to find a restaurant with the three main ingredients. Quality, quantity and price. This place rates high on all these. Any item I tried on the menu is mouth watering. The decor is Spartan at best, but that is the point. You don't pay for decor. Rather you are paying rock bottom price for a meal that could cost you triple any where else. I especially liked the barbecued meats which are cooked slowly in front of you, and you can ask for a piece right off the spit. All in all this is a place that attracts people of all races, colors and economic status, as I noticed suited clients as well as hippies, or soiled clothed laborers who stop in for a quick good meal or a business lunch or dinner. I will definitely be eating here often.

This is one restaurant you have to visit. This place has been around for 25 years and for good reason. The food is excellent from the barbecued lamb at $13.50, to the red snapper at $14.50, or pastitsio at $9.00. Excellent dips, fresh salad and the patrons are mostly repeat customers. The food is as good as mama's cooking in the greek village. Some of the waiters are lacking good communication skills, but that can be overlooked in light of the great food and prices. This is the busiest Greek restaurant in Astoria also known as little Athens. The way I see it, the place to eat, is where most people go.

Uncle George's has been around for years- and it's no wonder why! Their traditional greek food is mouth watering and the restaurant itself has a valued greek ambience. The entire perimeter of the restaurant is glass- there are sliding glass doors which, when not too hot or cold, are opened for a nice cool breeze while you enjoy a great meal at a great price! The lamb is always tender and they have great salads and dips. I recommend the roast leg of lamb, barbequed pork, tirosalata dip, the steak, greek burgers, the shrimp entree, and the barbeque lamb just to name a few! The music is great and the service friendly. Come here for a HUGE greek meal at a great price!

I'm Greek and choose to go to Uncle George's whenever I'm looking for fast, delicious home-cooked food. The decor is not special at all but their food and amazing prices make up for it. Their salads are great, their tzatziki is wonderful, their pastitio is fantastic and their porgies (a type of fish) are always perfect. Not to be forgotten are their lemon potatoes which always hit the spot. Don't forget to have a carafe of their house wine, it's light and goes down easy.

There are many places in the up and coming Astoria, but uncle george's is one old school place you must try. Try the lemon potatoes, after you do you will find yourself craving from time to time. My favorite dish is the BBQ Pork. Simply amazing. So tender its mouth watering. The prices have not changed much in years. The service is friendly and some waiters even teach you a word or two in greek before dinner is over. Not to mention there is some greek goddess working there that is just gorgeous. A must eat!!!

Uncle George's can sometimes be very quick, and sometimes you'll be waiting around forever for no reason. You can always expect - good (but greasy) food, cheap, rude service. But the price is right - it's delicious and there's lots of it. Try the pasta with meat sauce or the half baked chicken with lemon potatoes. Don't fill up on the bread (thought that's good too)! Overall, what you see is what you get - if you were walking by and thought "That place is crowded but it looks gross and I wonder why so many people eat here" you'd know why once you entered.

I was made to feel unwelcome from the moment I walked in. My waiter barely spoke two words to me -- that is, whenever he decided to actually see if I needed anything. I saw him having an animated conversation with some other customers, so I know he wasn't that way with everyone.

The food was OK, but trying to get anything, like a drink refill or the check, was an ordeal, and this was when the place was nearly empty! Overall, a highly unpleasant experience service-wise, and an unmemorable one food-wise.

Don't go here unless you want to be ignored, treated like a leper, or made to wait for every little thing. This is Astoria -- there are plenty of places to get better Greek food (and better service).

Maybe it was an off-night, but the place had a very unappetizing smell of cleaner, grease and fish when we walked in. Our table was very greasy, even after it was wiped down in front of us. The warm octopus vinaigrette was chewy, not tender, we couldn't finish it. We also tried grilled chicken (not bad), fried whiting (fried too long, very greasy), taramasolata (too salty), chicken rice soup (oily mess), and an OK Greek salad. The service was warm, but it took forever to get the check. There must be better Greek places in Astoria.

I love Uncle George's. The grilled/roasted meats can't be beat -- especially the kokoretsi (innards twisted on a spit and rotisserie-grilled into a semi-sausage -- it tastes a lot better than I can describe it). And the retsina comes just as it should -- in tin carafes (and it's way cheap). Uncle George's never closes, so there's no excuse not to jump on the N and come on over to Astoria.
