Sunnyside animal clinic rocks!!!
My kitty had heart failure with blood clot this weekend. They were able to see me immediately and diagnose the issue very quickly. The doctor took her time to explain the x-rays and everything else. They referrered me to a cardiologist who confirmed the diagnosis and even agreed with the med dosage.

The place is clean and smells good. The staff is very professional, calm and comforting, but not fake "gushy" like some places can be.

The charges are very clear, no hidden costs and excessive suprise bs. Even though it was an emergency, they charged me regular visit.

This was not my first visit here, but the experience has been consistently great.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is how medical offices should run, including ones for humans.

Highly recomended!

"SHOW ME THE MONEY" LINE WORKED IN THE MOVIE, BUT NOT THE KIND OF SLOGAN YOU WANT TO DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS. RECENTLY PURCHASED A KITTEN FROM LOCAL PET SHOP. WITH THE PURCHASE, THE PET SHOP OFFERED US A WELLNESS PLAN FOR THIS CLINIC.

I don't know how other peoples' experiences differed so much from mine, but I tried several vets for my dog before ultimately settling on Sunnyside. They are a bit pricey, but the vets, technicians, and office staff have always been extremely patient, caring, and helpful on every one of my visits, whether it was a routine checkup or emergency paw stitching. Also, I have insurance for my dog with VPI, and if you bring in a claim form they will help fill it out and fax -- so it's no hassle at all, and helps offset the cost a bit. I'm neurotically overprotective when it comes to my dog, and I always feel like he is in good hands at Sunnyside -- plus, they give me constant status updates, which help with MY separation anxiety!

I just moved back to NYC from Tampa, FL and decided to take my rottis to Sunnyside clinic since I took my oldest rotti there when she was a pup. So when my oldest rotti (Roxy) was bitten by another dog I took her there. The care is not greatest nor is it the worse. I have seen worse in FL. I waited for almost an hour before being seen by DR. G and that's only because I said something to the girl at the desk.I treat my dogs as if they are my own kids like any other pet owner that loves their pets. I went back to DR. G a couple of months later because I needed a script for Heartgard Plus because I order my Heartgard Plus from Drs Foster and Smith. They gave me the run around for over a week asking me for this and that and telling me that they did not receive the fax from Drs. Foster and Smith. They lied about the fax. They have copies of my rottis med recs from my vet in FL. After giving them all the info they wanted they still would not give me a script for the Heartgard Plus. I told them all they wanted was the money since I'm sure that they marked up this product. I'm not going back to this place since all they want is money. Do yourself a favor and don't bring your pet here. There are some good vets out there that really care about our pets and just not about the money.

Dr. Goldenberg may be a good vet but money comes first. There is no compassion when it comes to your pocket book - there has to be a good vet somewhere in NYC who not only knows how to treat our FURiends but also cares about prices. Vets that over charge put us owners in a place where we cannot afford to treat our pets unless it comes to life threatening illness. They remove the option of wellness exams

I moved to Queens two years ago, and was nervous about finding a good vet in the area. An acquaintance referred me to Sunnyside, and I'm so happy I found them. The staff is wonderful, friendly, caring, and you can tell that they like their jobs. We especially like Dr. G. And I love that the staff treat the owners as a partner in the animals' care, unlike some other vets I have encountered that like to talk down to owners. Can be a little pricey, but I am willing to pay for the excellent care they receive at Sunnyside.

Dr. Goldenberg and staff are the best care givers you could ever trust your pets to. They are caring, compassionate and knowledgable professionals who treat each animal in their care as if it were there own pet. Their facility is spotless and well maintained. I have been taking my cats to Sunnyside for over 7 years now and wouldn't trust their care to anyone else. They are a tad one the pricey side but worth every penny. If you want top notch care for your pets you can't go wrong taking your pets to Dr. Goldenberg and staff.

simply cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding this place at all costs!

If it's a true matter of life or death with your pet, you'd be better off to take your chances leaving them at home, and save yourself the hundreds of dollars they'd charge you to not help you at all.... Sunnyside clinic will NOT help your pet, and they WILL take as much money as you are stupid enough to fork over ! Avoid Avoid Avoid!

Before I tell my story I just want to point out that it's not so much about the outrageous costs they charged - it's the fact that they were unwarranted and unnecessary costs. IF I believed they were trying to save my cat I wouldnt write this review, but based on how far off they were on his diagnosis, and how sick he continued to get after seeing them. I realized they are only in it to make profit and the animals are not their top priority!

My story:
I brought my cat to SunnysideAC after he'd been throwing up frequently, stopped eating or drinking, and was hiding/ lethargic. All of which were very non-typical behaviors for him.

Sunnyside immediately jumped to the need for high priced testing. They wanted to run two blood tests, a urine test, a thyroid test, and an xray. Totalling over $500.. Since I'm not made of money, I insisted they tell me exactly what each test would do for this situation, and in the end I concluded to do just half of the testing and could decide to do the rest later if nothing turned up...
Needless to say nothing came up from any of their pointless money sucking tests...
They even told me everything was basically ok with my cat, and that nothing major was wrong. I felt relieved - like I'd done the right thing for my kitty, and he would be well again. They sold me some priscription food and sent me on my way.

Two days later things were taking a major turn for the worse. He was now projectile vomitting bright yellow very foul smelling bile. He had lost all energy and looked awful. He was dying. =(

I called a different clinic - They were closed for the day, but the vet tech was actually so concerned she got ahold of their vet... They came to an almost instant conclusion that it seemed like he'd eaten something and he was most likely blocked up. The technician was SO caring she even offered to come to my house to take a look at him.. She charged me just $8 for the tube of the laxative and threw in a free syringes to feed it to him. An hour late he passed three feet of ribbon, and is completely well again.

If it were left up to just Sunnyside my cat certainly would have died as I blindly trusted their judgement and expertise. Thank god I decided to get a second opinion from All Pets Vetinary Care in Astoria - They actually care about the animals, and they charged me just for supplies and not bogus fees for anything they could think of.

Dr. Goldenberg, whom I assume was once a competent, caring vet, is not. Now, this is not review for his staff. I would have to say that his staff and Vet Techs have always been nice to me and my pet. I hope that one of them opens up a clinic of their own. This review is for Dr. Goldenberg himself. I would caution any loving pet owner from letting this individual care for your pet, especially if he/she is ill and needs immediate attention, compassion and love.

Our kitten succumbed to FIP a little over a week after we hospitalized him with Dr. Goldenberg. We don't blame him for our cat's death; FIP is fatal and there was nothing we could do. I accuse Dr. Goldenberg of being slow to respond, cold-hearted, and quite lazy when it came to diagnosing and caring for our kitten.

It all started with his concern over our cat's "elevated billirubins." Of course, we too were concerned and rushed to admit him. I'll always regret not following my boyfriend's advice to pull our cat out of this vet's care, after he noticed that a few days had passed and Dr. Goldenberg wasn't really being as proactive as he hoped Dr. Goldenberg would be. But being naive, scared, and worried first time pet owners, I kept telling him and myself that this man was doing everything for our cat. But Dr. Goldenberg wasn't and so I'm warning individuals who love their pets, not to make my mistake.

First, NO ONE EVER CALLS YOU WITH TEST RESULTS or to let you know the status of your pet's condition, even if your cat's condition is serious. Also, don't expect Dr. Goldenberg to ever return your calls either. You'll be waiting until hell freezes over. I left voicemails for him and his staff, and got no calls back.

Second, it was very convenient that after day four in the hospital, and only after my boyfriend mentioned FIP as a potential cause, did the Vet decide to test for FIP symptoms. In fact, he lectured my boyfriend on the impossibility of testing for FIP, etc. Yes, we knew that, but he lectured my bf on the dangers of reading about diseases online, and how inaccurate web sites could be. Yeah, we're not lunatics that believe everything we read. But Dr. Goldenberg should've noticed sometime sooner, particularly after four days of antibiotic treatment that wasn't working. He kept telling us that our cat wasn't responding to antibiotics to bring down his fever which is why my boyfriend mentioned FIP. Why he didn't test sooner for this?! Ask him because I have no clue other than he wanted to milk us for whatever we had.

Third, looking back on what I was billed for, I noticed some double charges -- why would I need two FIV/Leukemia tests when he told me he ruled that out after day one? Same with fecal testing, and a bunch of others. In my grief, I let this guy swindle me. And I will disclose here that I didn't bother to fight him on the charges.

In the end, I have only myself to blame for trusting this man a little too much. Please, consider another vet if you are looking for one in Sunnyside or in all of Queens.

This place is very clean and nice, the staff is really friendly and caring. There is a long wait time sometimes but there are times I have gotten in to see Dr. Goldberg pretty quickly. I guess it depends on what day you go... I don't recommend Saturdays! Saturdays are the busiest!

My dog was scratching alot and had a rash. Dr. Goldberg gave me some medication and some shampoo and conditioner and skin vitamins and now her fur is so shiny and soft! He is a wonderful doctor and my dog loves him.

After moving to New York, I needed to find a local vet. I made the mistake of trying Dr. Goldenberg, since he was in my neighborhood. I, like others, found the experience to be awful. The wait was long, he was rude and even insinuated that I didn't care about my cat. He spent VERY little time with her, and I feel that in the end, I likely paid for several tests that were unnecessary, or at the very least were ill-explained. It would have been well worth the travel time, even with a sick cat, to have gone elsewhere!

I have been going to Dr. Goldenburg for 10 years, have taken all of my pets there (cats and dog) and have referred many people to him. I will say that he does seem to know the medical side of it all-but I don't think he is in this for the right reason. Example-my dog of 15 years was dying. I spent the whole Sunday night soothing him and staying by his side waiting for the vets office to open so I could rush him there-my dog stayed calm as long as I stayed by his side, but cried and yelped if I even left for one second-so naturally I stayed by his side. He had lost function in his legs and would not eat and his face appeared to be filling with fluid. All of this happened in just a mere few hours of the late Sunday night or rather very early Monday morning. As soon as they were opened I called and said I was rushing right over with my dog with a major medical emergency. We rushed over there-Misha (that was his name) was about 80lbs and had to be carried in by my husband-once in there the receptionist-who knew we were coming and they had JUST opened up-instructed us to lay my dog on the floor in front of the receptionist desk??? When there were empty rooms in the back? Then my dog was seen, and the inevitable had to be done-I needed to end his misery. So a bill was calculated up for me BEFORE they would do ANYTHING for him and my bill was hefty and I asked if I gave them a pre-dated check (which was about 2 days off is all) as my dog was suffering and I had just paid my rent and some other bills and would not be able to cover that vet bill in full for another 2 days-when I got paid. He would do NOTHING for my poor poor dog unless I paid up front IN FULL-I had been taking him there for 10 years, the doctor knows me-and my family, he has known my dog for 10 years and he was willing to turn us away, send me home to our apartment with a sick, suffering and dying dog? What would I eve do with his remains?? I live in an APARTMENT. I was crying and crying-stuck-not knowing what to do-I called everyone I knew while I was there and had to borrow money, so that my poor baby could finally get the peace he deserved. I brought his ashes home a few days later. How can you as a vet let an animal suffer like that? A dog he saw MANY MANY times over the years-most of the staff knew Misha by name every time we came in-I had already spent THOUSANDS at that office on my dogs and cats. Also one last note-when my dog came down with a very nasty case of vertigo-which is NOT life threatening and they WILL recover it just takes some time, I had him there for SUPPORTIVE care as I had to work all week. Dr. goldengurg was on vacation that week-and he had 2 fill in female doctors-who BOTH wanted to put my dog down over what amounts to vertigo, and without my permission they ran daily tests on him-my bill was ASTRONOMICAL after a stay there from M-F. I refused to put my dog down citing that those 2 obviously know crap, paid the bill and when Dr. G came back I told him how they charged me for all kinds of tests that I did NOT authorize, that had NOTHING to do with his condition. Dr. G did agree with me that I did the Right thing by not putting him down as what he had was NOT fatal and he would be just fine-but as for all the money I spent-he of course was not willing to credit it back to me or anything. After those 2 idiots he had working in there both wanted him put down-my dog lived on happily and healthy for a few more years, did not even need medication. Dr. G does seem to know the medical side like I said-but really if you can try and find a more compassionate vet that is in it for the right reasons and not just for the money.

Dr. G does seem to know the medical side like I said-but really if you can try and find a more compassionate vet that is in it for the right reasons and not just for the money.

I have never in my life experienced such unprofessional service. Dr. Goldberg saw my sick 2 year old dog for about 3 minutes and tod me he needed immediate care because he was not doing well. a few minutes later one of his assistants came in with a 1700 dollar bill. When we asked the doctor about it he said he explained that my dog needed to stay overnight because he might die. All by the way before doing any bloodwork (one of which we payed 50.00 for called an i-stat which is supposed to give immediate results) We didn't want to keep him overnight He turned out to be fine the next day, but the fact if the matter is that he lied about tests that he took. If he did take an istat we should have had the results immediately thta said he wasn't dehydrated. He also had other things on the bill that he did not do. He is a lying , uncaring doctor i would not send a dying cockaroach to him. He takes advantage of people when they are worried and upset and will try to get as much money out of them as possible. All and all I spent alot of money for some "fake tests" and some antibiotic. I say fake tests because i also was not allowed in the secret room in the back so who knows what they did since i never got the paper results only was told that he is fine.

Absolutely apalling service. My dog was rushed in as an emergency, suffering from an allergic reaction. He was taken from me at the reception desk & taken to a 'treatment room' at the rear of the practise. I followed him down there, where I was told by the lady vet to 'leave my treatment room'. When I tried to explain that I would like to stay with my pet, she handed him back to me & told me to take him & leave!!!. This, despite the fact that he was in desperate need of immediate treatment. I had no choice but to comply & return to the waiting room. I have been a pet owner for 40 years both in the UK & USA & in all those years I have NEVER before been treated in such a rude & uncaring manner, whilst being 'forcibly' seperated from my pet in a vet practise. Truely terrible.

Front desk worker slow and unresponsive, Dr. walking around eating breakfast while we had the 1st appoint. in the morn and we waited 45 minutes. Let's assistant examine first, then he comes in 15 minutes later, unpersonal, when you ask any question, he tells you the staff will explain later, which they don't. Other reviewer is right, they want money, money, more money. Puppy tied up in back crying while female employees gossiped and ate. Doctor never comes to phone if you call. Even if you leave your number, he personally never calls you...just one of the female assistants or the secretary. Treatment not explained fully, No good.

Before goin to sunnyside clinic, I got the worst experience ever, you can read the review about it whit Queens animal hospital, but sunnyside clinic saw my cat in a emergency situation, that they did not even created the mess in the first place, took an amazing care for her, and they treated my little cat knowing that it was the second time she had to go threw that ordeal. They where great, the vet and the staff where perfect, thank you soo much again!!!!

After misdiagnosing (and never following up) on my cat who subsequently died from metastatic cancer 3 years ago, I made the mistake of nearly repeating history by bringing her geriatric litter mate to Dr. Goldenberg with what appeared to be a feline gastroenteritis - Outrageous prices, long uncomfortable waits, history taken by techs (!!!) and no more than two minutes spent with my cat by the good Dr. himself. Upon a return visit three days later (as my cat was not improving), Dr. Goldenberg spent now ONE minute with my cat and ordered via his tattooed and ESL receptionist a REPEAT battery of tests (plus an expensive assortment that were absolutely unnecessary) - Several were the very same tests that had been performed 3 days prior! After being badgered two or three times by said ESL receptionist for a decision during which she and Goldenberg were audibly arguing over the estimate in the hall outside our exam room (the most attention paid to us, no pun intended, since our arrival), we demanded her CBC results and x-rays and got the hell out of there - The Dr. refused to even give our acutely dehydrated cat rudimentary fluids without admitting her (at a cost of almost $1,300 - the 'minimum' estimate). At our Manhattan clinic (where we immediately went) we were treated with genuine respect and concern - our cat is hospitalized there as I type - :*-(

The estimate from the Upper East Side clinic was HALF what Dr. Goldenberg drew up for us! HALF! We were allowed to leave a deposit without forking over the entire amount. We know our girl is now in the very best of hands and for that we are unendingly grateful.

Avoid the possibility of heartbreak and the careless and shoddy treatment at highly gauged prices - Our animals are our kids and they deserve the very best - Sadly, you won't get anything near that at this particular clinic.

Pros: If you live in Sunnyside, it's convenient.

Cons: If you live in Sunnyside, it's convenient to bypass this clinic and visit one that's staffed by competents, be it in Queens or Manhattan.

we used to take our cats here but switched over to astoria veterinary clinic. at sunnyside there's one doctor who juggles all the incoming pets. it feels a little bit like mcdonalds. we waited a long time to see the doctor every time we were there, and once we got into the office it was a quick 5 minute scan of the cat. at astoria veterinary there are 4 doctors and they are very clear about diagnosis and treatment. we have to take a car service to get there, but we've found that it's really worth it.

I am very happy to have finally found a vet that cares enough about pets to educate their owners about the proper way to care for them. The quality of care I received from the doctor and the staff was well worth the money I had to spend. The other vets I have been to have been a little less expensive but I felt neglected and I felt I wasn't giving my pet the care he deserved. Can you really put a price on your pet's health? Even the receptionists greet my dog when he comes through the door.... WELL WORTH IT!!!!

We moved into the neighborhood recently, and brought all of our pets -- two cats and one dog -- to the vet. What a mistake.

First, the clinic is poorly organized. You have to wait for a long time before being seen by the doctor. We waited two hours once to be brought into the back office, only to wait an additional hour before seeing Dr. Goldenberg. After the exam was over, we waited a half-hour to pay our bill at the front reception desk.

Second, the staff is incompetent and unsympathetic. And, Dr. G spends all of five minutes with you before handing you over to his assistants. He also gives bad advice, we brought our 6-month old puppy to see him. He had not been gaining weight according to the breeder's schedule, which concerned us. Dr. G dismissed our concerns, and said the puppy was progressing fine. We double-checked this with our breeder, and a second vet. It turned out Dr. G was wrong, our worries were legitimate. This is just one example of bad advice, he also gave us the wrong flea and tick medication for the cats.

Third, and most importantly, Dr. G is way overpriced. We regularly paid hundreds of dollars for a simple checkup. We lived in Manhattan before, and found that Dr. G charged more than the price of our vet in the city. We compared his fee with other vets in Woodside and Astoria and found Dr. G charged double the rate.

I do not recommend the Sunnyside Animal Clinic: why pay a lot of money for bad advice from an incompetent doctor who makes you wait two hours to see him? Do yourself and your furry loved ones a favor, see another vet.

What the other reviews have said is entirely accurate. I went there recently and it was truly awful - I'll never go back. My cat had been peeing in unusual places, and I wanted to get her checked out. I waited for over an hour in the exam room, and the doctor - who was unfriendly and impersonal - spent three minutes with me and my cat, just long enough to tell me that I needed to make an appointment to get a full blood workup and x-rays, and I also needed to make an appointment to get her teeth cleaned. The estimate for getting her teeth cleaned was over $700 (at my parents' vet in Ohio, the same procedure costs $100)! And this clinic doesn't let you make payments - you have to pay the full balance at the time of the appointment, which I think it completely unreasonable. And, even though what he said seemed to indicate that the x-rays and bloodwork were urgent, the front desk didn't ask me to schedule an appointment, and nobody has contacted me to follow up. This place doesn't care about you or your pet, they just want to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. Avoid them like the plague!!
