This bar is the epitome of a dive bar! A little dirty and could use a paint job. Oddly enough, I prefer this bar that way. I love coming down here on a Thursday or Sunday when it's not too crowded and have a few beers from their extensive selection. So many beers, so little time!!

Pros: So many selections of beer

Cons: I've seen cleaner places

I made the mistake of bringing friends to this place on New Years when the rudest bouncer ever was working.

He neglected to "bounce" a vomiting girl and then verbally assaulted some people who were simply trying to use the one toilet not overflowing with vomit.

Sexist, loud, pig bouncer! watch out!

Dive bar with great beer menu. Staff is knowledgeable about beer selection. No credit cards/Cash only

The bar itself isn't all that exciting but the selection of beers here is incredible. If you're out and about in Manhattan and looking for somewhere to try a new beer or something you'd never find anywhere else, this is the place for you!

Good selection of beer, great location, no pretentious bouncer. The lighting is awesome, they have great big cozy wooden booths to sit in with your friends. Its a nice warm atmosphere to spend with your friends on those cold winter nights. It adds on to Bleecker Streets charm. A nice young crowd is found throughout the bar. I left this place feeling fantastic and it wasn't just because of the booze!

Pros: great atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of booze, good prices

Cons: bad curb appeal but once inside you'll find it pretty cozy

I've been going here since high school. Tin droopy ceiling, heavily carved booths, and beer cap tiles create nice atmosphere. there's always new beer to try and the place prides itself on a huge selection. Fun to just stop in for one beer or to spend the evening. good jukebox too.

I've been coming here for years now (roughly about 3 times a month) and I still can't find something to complain about. The beer selection is amazing. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty darned good considering the rest of the bars along Bleeker. Its convienently located on the corner of Bleeker and La Guardia, so getting a cab on those drunken nights is no problem at all. There is no pretentous bouncer here either which is a breath of fresh air given the fact that it is a bar in New York City.

One slight thing I can complain about has absolutely nothing to do with the bar itself. Almost every time I go outside for a smoke, I'm bothered by a drug-dealer/undercover cop trying to get me to buy coke. I know this has no reflection on the bar but if there were a way to get rid of these people, I, along with many of my friends and fellow customers would greatly appreciate it.

We were here on Friday night, and OMG, it was LOUD. Not so much the music though - mostly, it was the clientele. Rowdy, drunk college students, and plenty of them, screaming at the top of their lungs. The waitresses were great, though, and the beer selection was excellent. Prices were quite reasonable as well. However, if you are over 25 you will feel seriously out of place here, and if you want to be able to have a conversation, you should probably look elsewhere. I would consider coming back on a Sunday afternoon or other slow time to further explore their beer selection.

I've been to this place many a time. I usually take visitors here because they can find their favorite beer and more. The list is so extensive, I usually end up getting drunk. The tables are long and made for good conversation with either your group or a few other people who just sit down next to you. The place is a bit loud, so shout away. The bathroom is way too small for such a huge drink menu, so get in line! It's a great place to meet people, and I love the juke box... the tunes are very, very good. Munchies are good, and I believe gratuity is incorporated into the price of a drink already, so no need to tip.

Peculiar is right. The place is weird but the drinks are cheap and the crowd is mixed. More mixing occurs when the people leave for the night.

This had to be one of the lamest, boring bars I've been to in NYC. I don't think I can say anything good about this place. The drinks are NOT cheap compared to REAL dive bars in the city. They have a horrible jukebox filled with mostly garbage 90's rock music (not even the good bands). On top of that, even when the jukebox is playing, you cannot hear the music because it's so soft. The bartenders were friendly, and that's probably the only good thing I can say. The neighborhood is also filled with mostly freaks. There were a few young couples at this bar, but mostly old men and gay people. My recommendation is to stay away from these village bars and check out the Patriot instead on Chambers & Church. Drinks are cheaper there and you can actually hear the music.

Every time I'm in NY I love to go to this pub. It is loud and packed in the evening but it has a fun atmosphere. It's loud and everyone is having a great time!! It has an amazing selection of beer. I love getting the flavor of an old city and the neighborhood crowd. It even feels a lot like the neighborhood pubs in Scottland and England. You can feel history here.

My favorite bar. A dive with old fashioned NY tin ceilings and a choice of over 200 beers. A staff that knows the beers. They don't take credit cards and they add the tip into each drink, so you'll always tip too much. Sometimes the juke box is too loud. The wings and curly fries are terrific. The staff is friendly, and knows their beer. Tommy the long time owner, might sit with you and talk about the old days. Decidedly untrendy. --Drink Club, a weekly group of NYC social drinkers

I dont know what these people are talking about...this place was full of old heads; at least 40 to 50 years old. Even the bouncer was historic. Place sucked. Did have good selection of beer.

Located right by NYU. Peculier is a college bar if there ever was one. It is hella packed with young twenty somethings looking to have fun with some good friends and get wasted on cheap beer. And u know what? That's just the way we like it.

Peculier Pub is the place for beer connoisseurs! Although the bar is dingy and dimly lit with neon beer signs, it has a character of its own. Their beer menu boasts hundreds of beers, ranging from domestic to hard to find foreign, from all over the world. Its a great place to expand your beer palate. Peculier Pub also has decent pub food if you are hungry or craving the munchies. If you sit at a table, a bar maid will take your order and most of the times they are helpful on describing some of the beers on the beer menu. However its recommended to ask if youre overwhelmed on what to order. Note that when you order beer from the bar maid, they automatically add 15% gratuity to your bill. Stay away from their cocktails that mix hard liquor with beer!!!!

Has nice big booths which are great for a group, and convenient for ordering food with your drinks. Great place to go with a bunch of friends - it wasn't too crowded when I was there and they were great about handling groups.

One of the first places to get lots of different beers on tap -- now one of many. But if you like old, smoky and run-down (for real, not like a fake dive), give it shot. It IS filled with young loud college kids, but then again, so is the entire area. One more interesting note: I've always been told and believe that the tip is included in the price of the beer here. I think it even says it on the menu. I'll be testing that theory tonight.

Pros: Beer selection

Cons: CROWDED

This place is essentially the basement of a frat house. The crowd is half yuppies and half college kids. The place looks rundown and is frequently overcrowded with unfriendly bartenders. They have a good selection of beers on tap, which makes it a nice place to stop by for a quick drink to meet up with people before heading out for real. Nothing more than a pitstop.

The Peculiar Pub is a great stop on a Friday night- half way between Wall Street and Mid twon, on your way to a late night on the upper east side. If you are a beer lover you must stop by, especially if you are a cave dweller like the rest of us.
