I look better with my new frame. Thank you optical insight.

I know the prices here are great because i paid half of what i paid at Cohen's last year for practically the same thing. With that extra money i bought contact that would last

I went there for an eye exam. The optometrist (last name Cai or Kai) works there, doesn't know anything.\r
She has very poor skill. She is very rude and discourtious. Don't even like to say hello to you.\r
Stay away from this place.\r

I recently had the pleasure of shopping for both glasses and contact lenses at Optical Insight. The owner of the store was unbelievably helpful with his suggestions for me from the large selection of designer and non-designer frames. I was promised that the glasses would be ready in 24 hours, and sure enough they were!!! I will definitely go to Optical Insight the next time I need glasses!!

I was a customer for over 10 years for both glasses and contacts, and spent a great deal of money there. I always knew they were expensive, but dealt with it due to my very tricky perscription. Recently, there was a problem due to the recommendation of their own optometrist. Instead of apologizing for the fact that their doctor was less than competent, I was literally verbally assaulted for no reason, as if the owner was taking all his life frustrations out on me. His assistant was no better. They are expensive, have terrible doctors (they seem to change often, no wonder...) and are extremely hostile. Stay far away.

I have been a customer along with my wife for about 3 years. We have gotten many pairs of glasses contacts and supllies. Never a deal or anything . Does not matter how loyal a customer a person is you are just a sale. The girl who works there is just selling , selling , selling. And the Dr. is a short tempered salesman as well.

Please believe that the people who've rated this place with one star aren't competitors! I'm a (former) customer who just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about this place. I'm convinced that the reviews giving them 5 stars are fake.

To explain my displeasure, I recently ran out of contact lenses and planned on getting new lenses from Optical Insight. After comparing the $150 price quoted to me by Optical Insight with 1800-Contacts which was half as much, I decided to purchase the contact lenses from 1800-Contacts. Since my order hadn't been fulfilled with 1800-Contacts, I contacted their customer service department that told me that many opticians refuse to confirm the prescription. David, the customer service rep, suggested that I send them a copy of the prescription myself. I called Optical Insight myself to request that my prescription be faxed over to me. I was put on hold and no one ever came back to the phone. I called again and the person who answered didn't say hello, but immediately put me on hold. I repeatedly called and figured out that they must have caller ID. They've always answered the telephone any other time that I've called them. After many calls from my business phone and a few calls from my cell phone, someone answered and claimed that they were not Optical Insight and that I had called 1800-Contacts. Since I have never called 1800-Contacts, dealing with them online only, and since I was looking at the New York number that I had just dialed for Optical Insight, I figured out that these people were playing games. I'm not sure if it's the counter girl previously referenced in a bad review or the shady doctor herself, but I was told that I was calling Utah instead of the 212 phone number that I was staring at. I had to physically go to the store to demand my prescription. The woman at the counter who must've been the person playing on the phone acted as if she was completely unfamiliar with my problem. I doubt that she expected that I would stop by. She gave me my prescription after I demanded it and made it clear that I would never return there. There is no reason that I should have to go through this. These people are unprofessional, liars, and rip offs and should be held liable for conducting business in such a manner.

Do yourself a favor and go to another optician. Compare prices also. My insurance has paid for my services for the past two years, so I've never suspected that they could've been over charging me. I only checked into the price since I was paying for this out of pocket. For everyone who has had problems with these people, file a report with the BBB. Just because they're located in the Financial District and they've been there for awhile doesn't mean that these bad reviews aren't true and that their service doesn't stink.

I went there on the recommendation of a coworker. I had broken my glasses and was in a real bind since I was going on vacation in 2 days. They fit me in to see the doctor, who gave me a very thorough and professional exam. The young lady who helped me with the glasses was extremely knowledgeable about every frame, lens and extra that I could want or need. Since I have a high prescription, she helped me find something hip and stylish without making my lenses look crazy thick. She was very sweet and patient, I think she showed me every frame in the shop! The optician came out (I think he's the owner) and told me he would put a "super rush" on my glasses and have them by the next day...which he did! I am thrilled with the service I received from beginning to end...plus I see great with the new prescription.

Seriously, I think all these bad reviews were meant for someone else...probably a Cohen's, which I've been to once, and will never ever go back. Optical Insight is THE place to go in the financial district...just don't go on a Satuday cause they are closed on the weekends.

I agree with the lady down below. This place is not as bad as people are making it out to be. I also have been a patient here for about 5 years. I work at Goldman Sachs and they accept my insurance. They have my contacts in stock and when I had an eye infection and couldn't wear my contacts, the doctor wrote me a prescription and had my back up glasses made in 20 minutes while I waited. I think they are very nice and the place is really clean which you don't find in most places. Let's give this place a rest with bad reviews. I know for a fact they are competent at what they do. I'm living proof!

As a Goldman Sachs employee, I really find it convenient that they are right across the street. Big Pro there. As for cons, they are booked for same day lunch time appointments a lot, so I have to finagle my schedule a little, but trust me, it's worth it! Some merchandise can also be a bit pricey, but he has good deals. Gotta tell them you want something a little less.

Oh MY Gosh!! I have just notified Optical Insight on this matter...those bad reviews that were posted are not from actual patients (which I had a weird feeling about from the beginning)...but they are from someone trying to sabotage their business. I overheard through the grapevine ( a very close grapevine) that they had it in for Optical Insight. Mind you, Optical Insight has been established there for decades. These reviews just started in 2006...the same time that these people who are trying to sabotage them came in. I am happy to find this out because I even thought it was ABSURD to call the girls there FAT! Who would really write something like that except someone who is trying to sabotage someone else.

P.S. For someone to ridicule someone about their weight, especially on the internet, is called defamation of character (if used to maliciously go after someone to sabotage them) and it is just plain wrong. (I am a lawyer! Please watch what you write! Lawsuits occur from reviews like the one below.)

Pros: Being a long loyal customer I can tell you everything is a pleasure when coming here.

They gave me trial lenses, then sold me lenses of the wrong size and prescription. On the first day with the new lenses I stopped into the store and asked to for a trial lens in order to be able complete my 40 mile commute. They refused, I drove home with one eye closed, as I had to pick up my children from school, taking the train was not an option.

Another co worker was given the wrong prescription for his glasses, which caused severe headaches. He was leaving town on a three week business trip and they refused to correct the problem before he left.

Yet another co worker began having vision problems a few weeks after going to optical insight. When she consulted another physician, it was found that she had severe capillary growth in her eye, as a result of wearing contact lenses too often. Optical Insight failed to catch this.

Avoid this business at all costs. The short, fat, Italian girl with a thick NY accent, shoulder length black hair and an olive complexion at the counter is the worst person I have ever dealt with at any establishment. She is borderline retarded and does not deserve to be employed.

I purchased $250 sunglasses here. Eight months later my credit card company found a $600 charge on my card that looked suspicious. The store put $600 on my card that they could not explain. They said they would look into it then I never heard back from them. When I called them they would either screen my calls or give me the run around. My credit card company is investigating and I am filing a complaint with the FTC.

went to get my contact lenses prescription, and usually the whole procedure + the lense prescription is covered by insurance. These guys told me I have to pay a "fitting fee" for god knows what. When i refused to pay they said they will cover the whole thing. From that time on i didn't have a good feeling about the whole thing. When I finally chose the lense prescription they put me on hold for half on hour and then said that i would have to pay extra 50 bucks because the lenses were non-standard. When I didn't like my first try of lenses they got kind of defensive and uncomfortable. With the second fitting I didn't like the lenses either so they told me this was getting kind of "expensive". I am totally fed up! I am picking off my prescription and going to Cohen Fashion Optical. These people are total incompetents at what they do and they are only after the money.

One of the most aggravating eyewear experiences in my life. Exam was rushed. Frames was damaged when I got them. Promised anti-glare coat and tint was left off. Sent glasses back four times, once came back with chip in one lens. Owner said, well they have been handled so many times. What? An optical lab that can't competently handle glasses?!? I still have problems with glare and reading. I felt like I was losing my mind with this so I went to the SUNY Optometry Clinic for a 2nd opinion. It seems I had been given the wrong script by Optical Insight's own on premises optometrist. In addition the shape of the frame can't adequately accommodate my script which is strong and requires Verilux lenses. These glasses are of limited use to me due to night glare and reading problems so I am out about $850. Because the frames are wrong for my script I can't even reuse them for any new lenses. This frame isn't wide enough to allow my eye enough time to go from my very strong distance script to transition to my reading script. At the optometry center they said the area for reading was so narrow they had trouble finding it to analyze my script suggesting that when I read my eye is physically having trouble finding it. Shouldn't competent eye care professionals know this before selling a frame? Just to add insult to injury cleaning these lens scratches them horribly. I don't know what garbage they are made from but i have a pair of 8 year old glasses I had before these (that I wore off and on with contact lens) and I never had this problem with them or any other glasses for that matter. So needless to say I feel very ripped off and I need to buy another pair of comfortable, usable glasses besides. I went there because they took my insurance, very, very expensive coverage indeed.

the optometrist is rude, I have to agree with the other reviews. I mistakenly left my glasses there after an eye excam, when I returned they INSISTED that they were not there. I am now out a $600 pair of glasses because they refuse to return them to me. I can't make sense of this, but trust me, I walked out with a new pair of contacts and forgot the glasses I came in with and have never seen them again. This place is shady at best.

the optometrist is rude, I have to agree with the other reviews.

Pros: in the neighborhood

Cons: they're criminally incompetent.

.

My coworker highly recommended this optical store to me. I made my way down to the Wall Street area and was totally satisfied with the service. The Optometrist did not rush me as someone said above; I got a contact lens fitting, complained about some discomfort and I tried a new pair that were perfect. The docotr was especially patient with me. I chose a beautiful Prada frame from the huge selection they had. A really nice cute girl helped me. I live about 40 minutes away, so I left for lunch next door and my glasses were ready for me within about 2 hours. It did turn out to be a bit over my budget but was completely worth it for the convenience and service that I was provided with... will def be back!

Pros: Location, honest staff, good selection

Cons: can get busy at lunch time

Everyone at this business is completely incompetent and shockingly rude and unhelpful. Every interaction at this place has been a nightmare. As just one example, when I ordered my contacts online from a very reputable company, my order was delayed for over 1 week because Optical Insight kept on hanging up on them. When I called Optical Insight to find out what was going on, the person answering the phone laughed and said that he "had to go" and so couldn't deal with my problem. This place couldn't be any less professional - go anywhere but here.

Cons: horrendous service, couldn't care less, abhorrent treatment

Optical Insight double-booked eye appointments with the single optician working on the premises, forcing me to wait for 20 minutes while they performed 2 other eye exams, only to get the shortest, most rushed eye exam I've ever experienced--in and out in a matter of minutes. And their eye chart was smudged, making it impossible to get a clear reading of the final lines on the exam. The optician frantically rushed through the exam after complaining that she had to wait while I removed my contacts. The optician confided that the manager rushes her--she was forced to conduct 2 eye exams in the amount of time that a single exam is supposed to take, according to the receptionist with whom I made the appointment. Avoid this shop if you want an accurate, comprehensive eye exam.

Pros: Location (but I'd gladly trek far away to get a better eye exam)

Cons: Awful customer service, rushed eye exam

.

48 hour turnaround became 1 week (and counting). No call to update customer of status. Manager not concerned about customer service, just with ringing up another sale. No Refunds offered at this store. Save yourself the headache and avoid Optical Insights. FYI, this location uses Perfect Optical Labs. Promised delivery times are a moot point, so make sure the eyecare specialist you choose does not use the above lab.
