I've never posted anything on here before, but I saw several negative reviews on here an I have to counter them.

30th Street is now my favorite guitar shop in the city. Matt Brewster has done work on several of my guitars that I cannot

I've been dealing with Matt Brewster at 30th street guitars for over ten years. The guy does the best set up in the city and will always take the time with me to explain the work he's done. I wouldn't trust my R9's and converted 56 with

30th Street is the BEST guitar shop in NYC. West 48th Street is a mere memory now, and 30th Street has filled the void and then some. An incredible selection of guitars, amps, and effects to match any tastes and/or budget. Friendly, no pressure staff as well. Guitar lovers-you have to include 30th Street on your 'must-do' list when in New York !!

An incredible selection of guitars, amps, and effects to match any tastes and/or budget. Friendly, no pressure staff as well. Enter the 30th Street Guitars and you will have a choice between modern, vintage and used instruments that boggles the mind. All players are treated equal in this shop so everyone feels like a Rock star.

The place is one stop for the electric six string. If you need to try out an effect pedal and didn't bring your guitar chances are good that the shop will be able to set you up with an amp and guitar you know well enough to test the effect. Between the prices and gear you may have to buy more then you came in for.

These guys know guitars, and the walls and walls of restored and preservered vintage telecasters, les pauls, es-335s, and Gretsch's demonstrate their commitment to the craft. This is far and away the best repair team in the city, and if you are looking for new pickups or other general modifications, a quick description of what you are looking for will give you better results than you could imagine. These guys repaired two broken headstocks for me, a fractured bridge, and with a few general modifications that they recommended, turned my electric guitar and bass from mid-level instruments to highly coveted instruments that get comments wherever and whenever I play out. Whether you need repairs or just want to try (and maybe even buy) a '62 Les Paul, this is the place to go. If you love guitars, this is your store.

I brought a Tele with Kinman "noiseless" pickups into 30th St guitars for a new toggle switch. The pickups are about 2 years old and have indeed been free of hum since they day I installed them. When I picked up my guitar from 30th St, the new switch was in, but the guitar had hum. I went back to the shop a couple days later and was told that the repair tech/owner was out for a week, but they had another tech coming in the next day.

Tech #2 said he couldn't hear any hum and said he'd stake his reputation on it. We plugged it in and, sure enough, there was plenty of hum and tech #2 looked embarrassed while the guy behind the counter laughed at him and his "reputation." Tech #2 advised me to come back when tech #1, the owner, was back the following week.

Today, as instructed, I went back and saw Matt, the owner, tech #1. He said there was no way anything he did caused the problem. I pointed out that the guitar was whisper quiet until I left it at his shop. I protested that I had been back and forth 4 times, and was frustrated that the other tech initially denied even hearing the hum. His response was that he was away so couldn't answer for that. He said "it wasn't me" and that something was wrong with the pickups.

Whatever happened, it happened on his watch -- he's the owner and "I'm not accountable for what happened while I was away" doesn't cut it. He made no offer to repair the guitar, or even explain the coincidence that my pickups started humming exactly when he worked on the guitar.

I said I would bring it someplace else and that I wanted my money back. He had the nerve to say, "Ok, give me back the toggle switch and I'll put your old one back in." I swore at that point. Matt was unwilling to discuss it further after that. I guess it's fine for him to give me my guitar worse than when it came in, and it's fine for him to nickel and dime a customer who has come back again and again in good faith; but heaven forbid the customer should lose his temper.
