I take exception to the critical comments made about Astor Little League. My son is autistic and has played in the Challenger Division of Astor LL for 6 years. It is the only league in the Bronx that sponsors a Challenger Division. Our Challenger Senior Teams are not just recreational but also instructional. The Board of Directors has been completely supportive of our division in every possible way. In addition, what is cruel about attending and paying for an Awards Breakfast as well as selling $60 worth of chocolate for fundraising ? Yes, coaches, managers and board members are volunteers with full time jobs. Since when is working full time a bad thing ? Of course some coaches are more skilled and knowlegable than others but children learn other things on the field besides pitching and hitting such as respect, team work, responsibility etc. Lets face it most of us don't expect our kids to play in the Major Leagues we just want them to learn a sport, play fair, and learn how to be good human beings.

Astor is affiliated with both Little League and Babe Ruth League. They are open to ALL children and have approx. 400 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 16. They also have the only CHALLENGER program in New York City for children with autism. They have winter clinics beginning in January and have clinics at their field during the season. Their fees are comparable with all other leagues and in fact they give a discount for families with more then one child and discounts for early registration All players receive a replica uniform of a major league team, including a hat, shirt, pants and socks. They are quite proud of being the only league to hold an annual breakfast for the players and families of all the players. The cost is $20 which actually does not cover the cost of the actual breakfast, trophies and awards given at the breakfast. All of the Board members, managers and coaches are VOLUNTEERS and I thank them for their time. The league is about the players learning about the game but most importantly to ENJOY themselves and make new friends.

Can't say anything about Pelham Parkway LL but beware of Astor Little League, they are just a recreational League and not an instructional League. Their registration prices is ridiculously high for what you are getting. Degrading uniforms and you must sell chocolates as part of a fund raiser. This year it was $60.00. Very cruel for kids, also if you want to get a trophy you have to attend their November dinner and pay for admittance of $25.00 to $30.00 so you are paying for everything and coaches all have full time jobs and have no time to train your kids the basics. So do your research before investing!

Pelham Parkway is the best League in the Bronx. My daughter Krystle played about 6 years with them. she won an athlete scholarship to play softball in Morgan State University. Hopefully by June she will finish a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice and become a Parole Officer. The coaches, managers and directors of this League helped her to achieved her goals in different ways, as a human been and as an athlete. Guys keep on doing the great job that you people know to do. The Gaud family are very grateful for your unconditional dedication, teaching and job you did with Krystle. Parents if you are looking for a League for your kids "Pelham Parkway is the one...No Doubt !!!! Guys God Bless You Al !!!! James, Luz and Krystle Gaud

Astor LL is very weak. Coaches have limited knowledge of the the
game. If you want your kid too play for the sake of playing it's an
ok league. My kid did not learn much, but he enjoyed the hot dogs.

This is the best league in the Bronx. I have had other experiences with Astor, which was terrible, and Castle Hill, which was good, but at Pelham Parkway it is really all about the kids. Each child is given guidance and even the managers are guided by the veterans of the league to provide a learning experience for the children regardless of their talent and years playing. They give children a boost in their self-esteem while developing their playing skills. Both my children are in this league and I would recommend it to anyone in the Bronx.

This league has been around for many years. I even joined this league as a kid. My parents forced me into it butt in the end it was fun. Being in a league teaches you the value of team work and its a good tool for a child's development. You wont go wrong signing up for this league.
