Excellent for the price, maybe not so impressive in terms of service. My wife and I really liked the ambiance, however. Still, at this point in time, Yamato is a great and def. unavoidable neighborhood staple.

I like yamato - it's not as good as mura, but it's pretty reliable sushi. Nothing to rave about, but certainly does the trick. They also have very friendly service.

This place has ruined me for neighborhood sushi. Creative, consistent, fresh. Excellent sashimi, and the millennium roll is beyond delicious. Not cheap but very yummy. Love it.

I'm fairly picky about my sushi and I happen to think Yamato is excellent. The atmosphere is great for dining in but they also deliver. Oh, and don't miss the amazing lunch specials--great prices for lots of food.

Ever since Yamato opened it's been full at dinner time for good reason. The menu is inventive yet the basics are well prepared.
The sushi and sashimi are very fresh and so are the special rolls.
Don't be shy and get the Viagra roll - it's yummy. They have weekly specials and a good selection of bento box specials for lunch, which are a good deal. It's not cheap but you'll get your money's worth.

Just go to Yamato and order the Red Dragon Roll. If you don't like it, I don't know what to tell you. The Seafood Dynamite is also otherworldly. I'm not even going to bother to describe it; it speaks for itself.

Pros: Red Dragon Roll, Seafood Dynamite

Cons: can't eat it every day

Went here on sat 1/26 and was disappointed. Chicken teriyaki had tomato or pimentos on top?? food was luke warm. The waitress was not attentive at all. I was looking for banana tempura for dessert and they dont have. Too many other good places to have to settle.

I have eaten at some of the 'best' sushi joints in NYC (Nobu, Bond Street, JewelBako, etc) and Yamato is my favorite. An unpretentious spot in Park Slope, the sushi is consistently good, the service is pleasant, effective and unassuming. In the summer months, the back garden area is really nice. The rolls are creative and I have yet to find another sushi place that serves up more inventive yet delicious japanese food. The Dancing, White River and Millenium rolls are musts.

My husband and I take out from here 3-4 times a month. The sashimi is always fresh and the rolls are innovative and delicious. Have never had a problem with service save a missing rice once. Delivery can be spot on or lacking depending on the weather and the day of the week. Delivery guy sometimes get upset if you don't tip more than 10%. We've found it to be better and fresher than Kiku which is comparable in price.

I love the creative rolls that this place offers, with ingredients like mozzarella and asparagus. The rolls are generously large (I can't eat more than two!) and fresh too. Some things are doused in sauce like the appetizers or the salads, but they're willing to put it on the side if you ask. I would have them on speed-dial if I knew how to program my landline!

Pros: Great sushi, good entrees

Cons: Not much on the dessert list, sometimes delivery is a little slow (up to 50 minutes)

Yamato is an excellent place to go if youre not into sashimi, or if you have friends who doesnt like sushi much. They have great rolls, the triple color and norwegetan rolls, are awesome and filling. One special roll and one regular roll is enough to fill you up, but save room for dessert! They have a delicious banana chocolate dessert, as well as a great green tea tempura.
The appetizers are also delicious!
Highly recommended!

Aside from Sushi Yasuda in Manhattan, this is arguably the best sushi I've ever had (and some of the most innovative). Fantastic bang for the buck, great atmosphere and consistently quality service. The Mexican Roll, White River Roll and Millenium rolls are musts.

This is one of my favorite places in the city. Delicious. Try the White River Roll - unbeliveable.

Pros: Afforable, Super Fresh Fish!, Inventive

I love this place.
Their sushi is delicious!

I highly recommend the valentine roll which is delicious or the osaka roll.

I go to this place usually once a week and I have been there tons.

there has been only one or two times when I thought the sushi was below par ( i guess everyone has their off nights)- when that was the case I did not order for a while.

But then I would go back and it would be delish! Their menu has just been updated featuring new rolls and more choices.

If you're in Park Slope I would go to this sushi place above all the others!

The place is cute -- small, cozy with a cute garden, BUT the food is not comprable to its look. This place doesn't even make their own "veggie" dumplings nor can they tell you what's in them! The sea bass was drowning in ponzu sauce --way too much! The sushi rolls weren't too bad. I would recommend going for the ambience only -- maybe a cup of tea and a scoop of ice cream.
