Upstate Films is the area place to see independent and foreign films. The films move through quickly, which is great as it allows more movies to be shown. They also host events and special showings with speakers and panels. A great community resource!

Shows all sorts of movies from all over the world. Good ticket prices. Great concessions/prices - $1.50 for a small popcorn - they have real butter, great cookies and brownies, coffee. Often has visiting filmmakers and special events. Brings real cinema to the area.

Pros: Great Movies, Tasty Inexpensive Concessions, Friendly

Cons: Get there early for the best seats

I started going to this theatre when I moved upstate nearly twenty years ago. I have seen some of the most moving films that will never make it to the mainstream theatres. I think everyone should try to see films 'outside the box'. Brilliant films can be foreign or lower budget, but nontheless worth seeing. A worthwhile night out in a beautiful little town.

This small theater has a great deal to offer. Independent and foreign releases as well as re-released classics, special events, a great snack bar that won't leave you reeling from sticker shock, and moderate ticket prices. The only cons are the parking situation (park a few blocks off and walk, you lazy so&so!) and the increased chance of a film selling out - simply because the seating is more intimate. Go early, buy your ticket from the friendly staff in the box office, and then go back out again to have a drink at one of the many local cafes just a stone's throw away. Highly recommended!
