My friends and I came in for drinks and food on a Friday night. Our waitress was new (1st day), had too many tables to wait and our order was misplaced. Long story short, after waiting 45 minutes and watching plate after plate of food

Vegetarians look elsewhere the only thing they have for you is a pasta on one day a week and a mac and cheese that is basically glue.\r

I wondered what happened to MJ. I guess that's why one of the tenants have that banner on the third floor of the bar with her initials on it. I miss that girl.

I'm a life time Carroll Gardens resident and I remember when Hanley's was an " Old man bar"\r
and then a neighborhood " thug" hang out. I avoided this place because of locals and no ambiance\r
and drama. Fast forward to winter

I do not know where to begin on this once great place after seeing the transformation being a patron/employee at one point for a few years. The food and alcohol are way over priced and the service from the kitchen has gone down in the bar area. The bottle beer is always warm in the summer and they have an attitude when it is brought to their attention. The waitresses are really nice, but sometimes not efficent. The owner Jimmy is a clown that has no clue on owning a bar or pizzeria. The Manager Rueben has a horendous attitude and thinks he transformed the place into something it wasn't before he was even thought of as an employee. I get the biggest laugh now seeing the owner Jimmy roll up his sleeves and attempt to make pizza in a brick oven that he thinks is really good. Each pie that I witnessed him making comes out burned and he was over heard saying either take the pizza the way I make it or people don't have to come here at all. That is a great attitude to start up a business with remarks like that from the owner/pizza maker. Not to mention he decided to go on vacation and close after opening roughly a month or after a full year of renovations. It is a comedy strip in that place that is poorly owned and managed. The Hanley's should take him out of his misery and get the place back to where it once was for many years.

Avoid this place at all cost. I went with a group for my friend's birthday. I arrived after my friends were seated but sat at the head of the table. After 15-20 minutes, I was finally able to get a waiter's attention to get a menu and a setup. When I inquired to the waitress about wine, I finally had to ask for a wine menu which she begrudgingly brought to me. My friends' food arrived before I even had a chance to order and when the server asked "Anything else?" I had to ask if I could order. Vegetarian options are limited to salad and cheese quesadillas. (Although an online menu shows pasta and pizza...where was that when we were there??) When a friend asked if they could make veggie tacos, he was flatly told "No". My friend's mother had to send her fish back because the breading was not cooked properly. I asked if they did anything for someone's birthday (I had read on another site they might give a drink) but the snitty waitress said no.

I joked that the gratuity must surely be included with the kind of service we were receiving and sure enough the bill came with a 20% gratuity added. (I've heard of 18% but 20% is really presumptuous and we told the manager so and he removed it.) The waitress did not appreciate our candor and when my friend tried to speak to the manager about things further, he ended up telling her she was being sarcastic and she needed to leave the restaurant!

I saw some negative reviews on another site about this place...boy they weren't kidding! Never again! Too bad because the outdoor seating area is really nice as was the DJ. The busboys and runners were great too. Maybe with more professional management and waitstaff it would be ok?
