Speaking for my 80-year old mother: After the WORST possible rug installation (whole house), it took several calls and weeks before FWS finally came back to fix their mistakes. To give you an idea how bad the installation was, the guy who came to fix it stretched the carpet and trimmed off several 30-gallon plastic bags FULL of rug scraps cut off from the stretching! Within a short time, the rug was wrinkled again in several places, making it an accident waiting to happen for an elderly lady--or anyone for that matter! Over the past year I have called and emailed FWS numerous times to try to get them to fix the carpeting--but they would not do one thing to fix it! PS the "new owners?, John and John, are the ones who sold my mother the carpet and installation package in the first place--even if it was before they bought FWS in May 2010.

This all said about FWS, we turned to KENNY CARPET on Sheridan Dr. and Gene, the most honest, wonderful, and helpful man helped us with the rug problem since FWS would not. It only cost $60 and the wrinkles are gone! I would highly recommend speaking to Gene at KENNY CARPET with any of your carpet needs!!!!! You will NOT be disappointed!

Furthermore, I am making it my mission that whenever the subject of carpeting and installation comes up, to tell of her experience in detail, and save them from suffering the way my elderly mother has suffered the anguish over this carpeting!

Poor FWS for being so dumb when it comes to customer service and customer satisfaction. You should have done the math!! It only cost $60 to fix my mom's carpet. That measly $60 could have been the BEST kind of advertising for them--word of mouth!! Instead, they chose the WORST kind of advertising--horrible reviews. We have a HUGE family and extended family, not to mention, friends, colleagues and people we all have yet to meet to tell of our mother's horrible experience with FWS. You can be sure that NONE of us will be buying anything from FWS....not now....not ever! Not.real.smart.FWS.

I bought a sectional from the store on elmwood. They will definitely negotiate. I got over $300 off of the asking price. I thought delivery fee was way to high. Over $90 bucks but I couldnt fit it in my car.

I ordered a recliner for my father who is 82 on 12/20/11, it was supposed to be a christmas gift. I was told 6-8 weeks, by Paul. We figured the end of Febuary, and we would have the recliner.
We have called numerous times and been told repeatedly that it was due in a couple of weeks, well now it is April 5th and I still have no delivery date, or a phone call with one.
So I guess I will have to go to the store and ask why again, and probably cancel this order. Our phone calls are not getting us the answers or the results that they should.
This is not how I would treat customers, especially if you want them to come back.

I placed an order for a chair on Sept 1, 2011. The salesman told me it would take 6 - 8 weeks. At 8 weeks i called the store and asked my salesman where my chair was. He told me that he had said "8-10 weeks" which I remember clearly was not said, but ok fine, we've waited this long. 10 weeks has come and gone, indeed we are up on 11 weeks in 2 days. So now I have to GO IN THERE and find my salesman and find out where my stupid chair is. At this point I'm ready to call the bank and have them get my money back. I can't imagine doing business like this, and I don't have time for this. I'll never....ever...buy from here again.

UPDATE, they are giving me the display and free delivery and a credit of $50. I'm satisfied. Make sure you GO IN and don't call to get your problem resolved

My mother bought a large house full of wall-to-wall carpeting from this company. The carpeting had flaws in it. But the worst, I repeat, WORST thing was the way it was installed!! It was loose in many places, you can see where the imprint of rows of nails are--in essence, it was the worst installation could you ever imagine. When we called to have it fixed, we got nothing but run around galore! Finally, someone came to the house and stretched and cut off several 30 gallon sized plastic bags FULL of carpet scraps! Not only that, but when they stretched the rug to trim it, the solid oak baseboards upstairs and downstairs shifted from the tool used to stretch the carpet thereby leaving GAPS in the baseboard. When we called AGAIN to complain, John the rug guy was not about to do anything more even though the carpet SHOULD have been replaced and reinstalled by a competent carpet installer. Here it is a couple years later and the carpeting has gaps and wrinkles throughout the whole house!!! We will NEVER buy a thing from FWS again--their word means nothing to us because they did not fix their mistakes. Learn by our mistake! Do yourself a favor and go to Kenny Carpet--the best carpet people in the business!

Business Response:

I am one of the new owners of FWS, my business partner and I purchased the company from it's previous owners in May of 2010. This complaint claims to originate from a purchase and installation from 2 years ago. We have no records of this complaint to work from. I feel badly that the previous supervisors of FWS's carpet department did not properly address the customers concerns. If Susannah would like to contact us directly to review her complaint we would be happy to discuss any option we could afford her. Please contact us at info@fwsfurnitureonline.com. This is not a fair reflection of today's FWS.

We bought a bedroom set for our daughter and the saleman talked us into purchasing a warranty to cover any damage. He specifically mentioned nail polish remover damage. Two years later our daughter did spill nailpolish remover on the dresser. We contacted the warranty company who is out of business, so we contacted FWS to find out how we were going to get our furniture repaired. They refused to help us in any way saying it wasn't their problem. They are the ones that we paid, not Stainsafe. I will never buy anything from them again and I am telling everyone I can!!! I was in the Transit road location on Tuesday night, I was blown away. Such a great selection and great prices. A very nice man went out of his way to help me with looking for a certain rug. When I asked to speak to the Manager to tell him how helpfull he was, he said he was the manager. It was so nice to finally go into a store where the people know the product and take the time to help you. I was in there for over 1 hour, and he went over everything from stock to special orders. I loved my time there and I say shop fws and now I am a customer for good!
Thanks.

FWS is a furniture store that has a lot of character. While it's not a beautifully accomodated showroom experience like some other places it has the virtue of offering a wide selection and some things you're not likely to see at a more traditional chain in a place that's not quite as cavernous or artificial. This also means that sometimes the layout isn't quite ideal--too many pieces cramped together, etc. But on the whole the unique selection outweighs any small inconveniences.

Unfortunately, we found the sales staff to be hit or mass. One one occaision we received excellent service and advice, on another we were repeatedly made to wait because the store was understaffed and when we did receive service it was clearly rushed.

Overall, it's worth checking out. You might find something unique that you love, or may come away empty.

PROS: Interesting selection
CONS: Bargains to be found, but also some pricey pieces. Staff is hit or miss

Message from FWS Home Furnishings Buffalo

FWS stores are stacked, packed and crammed with an ever-changing inventory of quality furniture, mattresses, area rugs, carpeting and fabrics at closeout prices. Owners John Grimaldi and John Wanat bargain with makers of brand new brand name furniture, mattresses, area rugs, carpeting and fabric makers from around the world. With the belief that living shouldn‚??t cost too much, they accept only the lowest price so FWS can pass the savings on to you.

Established in Buffalo in 1962, the company sold everything from shoes to stoves and operated under different names as ownership changed. In 1973, Factory Warehouse Sales burst onto the scene when the ceiling of a Levitz Furniture warehouse collapsed. Over the years, FWS focused on closeouts and overstocks and then special order and mainstream lines of home furnishings as customer needs changed.

Today, FWS Home Furnishings returns to its roots as Western New York‚??s ONLY closeout specialist for unique furniture, mattresses, area rugs, carpeting and fabrics. In a world where big box retailers offer all the same styles and looks with inflated prices, FWS offers real prices on real home furnishings for real life.

Dress up your home for less‚?¶FWS.
