I loved going to Turkuaz when I lived on the UWS. Great appetizers with delicious grilled pita bread. My only complaint is that it's kind of pricey. We would go there with the kids and before we knew it, the bill was $120 or more... without drinks. But, reliably good.

I had luch on Friday there. Ordered vegetable casserole. It was tasteless. I am Armenian and know how Turkish food should taste. It was bland and service was non existent. Portions were very tiny for the price. You better off at the Indian Place on 94.The tea was yummy

We just moved to the UWS and have been exploring the restaurant scene. We decided to go to Turkuaz. You walk into a beautiful bar area. You then go in a bit further to see an incredible (air-conditioned) Bedouin-like tent. It is enormous!!! So cool.
The fresh, WARM bread was awesome. So many wonderful appetizers, like a spinach pie, amazing veggie spreads, etc...
The wine list is kickass and very, very reasonable (we had a great Pinot Grigio for $33 a bottle.)
We were so full on apps that we only had two entrees and a salad and that was more than enough. I recommend the meatballs for a main course option!! DELICIOUS!! We didn't try any fish, but that's next time around.
My Dad is Turkish and I've been to Turkey. This food matches up!!! Go immedietly! For two bottles of wine, four apps, two entrees, a salad and two desserts (there were four of us), the bill was less than $200. The service was impeccable. The waitress knew her stuff and everyone was so freakin friendly. The manager was super nice, too! His name is Bob.
Such a find...enjoy!

Pros: Fun atmosphere, gorgeous decor, open late, BELLY DANCING on weekends!

Been there for dinner a couple of times (once for bday dinner with another couple) and the food and service was great. Consistently good. It's quite far from me but it's worth the trek to upper west side. if by chance it's too crowded there's plenty of other options in the neighborhood. I've not seen the belly dancing but I've heard from friends it's awesome. They also offer an All-You-Can-Eat Sunday brunch that has to be delicious b/c everything else was but I haven't gone just yet. I imagine that's more family friendly than dinner. Really solid eating experience - lives up to its reputation.

The restaurant has authentic decoration like a tribal-tent with the servers? matching outfits. With the belly dancer, Friday and Saturday nights are real mediterian rhapsody that you can also become part of it quickly. Great food, Turkish wines and Raki (Turkish brandy) those complimenting the food are from middle-eastern through mediterian cuisines. Every food and decoration has its unique stories, ask the kind Turkish servers they would tell you. The Turkish coffee and deserts are also the signatures of the happily ending diner.

Always excellent food, service and atmosphere. My wife and I often eat at Turkuaz and we are never disappointed. We recently had dinner with some friends to celebrate my graduation and tried new dishes (Red Snapper special) that were excellent! The service is the best I have ever had in NY and I will highly recommend to all!

This is the BEST Turkish Restaurant in NYC. The food is authentic, the service is perfect. The atmosphere brings me back to Turkey. I have brought my business associates here, my family ,and a date or two ;-)
all in all... the restaurant is reasonably priced. The menu is varied and caters to all tastes and hunger levels. If you want a large sumptuous meal or a light appetizer, this is the place for you. even vegetarians are well taken care of here! It is a great place to try Turkish food if you have never had the expereince, and a wonderful place to ' return' to turkey, if, you have ever been there.
fridays and Saturdays host some of the the best bellydancing I have seen in a long time.

I came here because I told my brother that I will join him for breakfast on sunday but in general I cant stand all you can eat brunches ( and he knows that) something about the buffet amounts and endless lines of people getting offended when you cut them to go to the one dish you are interested in. But alas, the food was wonderful and dish by dish the score went higher in my book. The fish kebabs and okra dishes were really very speacial and the deserts were very exotic. The best part was that it was only about 15 dollars for the brunch.

I went there on a Mon night and service was excellent, maybe because they only had a few tables? But my water glass was kept filled and I have a feeling the wait staff lingered after their shift so that my party could continue chatting. We felt no pressure to leave, even though we were there for maybe 3.5 hours.

Also, the chicken shish kebab is good.

So, I was really excited to bring my friends to Turkuaz to sample the Turkish cuisine. The whole table ordered Iskender on our recommendation. The food was rather cool and lacked the taste we're used to. Totally Americanized - Iskender should be served on a metal platter with bubbling sauce and this was a bland recreation for ignorant tourists or something. But the service was a DISGRACE. The rude ignorant waitress got annoyed with us because she was scheduled to go home and wanted the checked paid. So, before we were even finished, she asked us to pay. And then she walked over the other table and insulted us in Turkish. Too bad for her my fiance speaks fluent turkish and chewed her out from top to bottom. All she had to say for herself was that she wasn't a rude person but she called us stupid Americans! And at this table were 5 doctors! Then, we noticed that they had included a 20% grituity on their check when they said 6 or more grituity included. On top of that, we had called to confirm their bellydancing show earlier that day and they said "sure, the show is tonight at 10 pm!" Then, when we arrive, they said that the show had been cancelled for weeks because it was Labor Day weekend. This restaurant STINKS and I will never go back nor recommend it to my worst enemy. Go to Alibaba, Turkish Kitchen, or Beyoglu instead. This dump is NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR DOLLAR.

Pros: If you're dying in the desert from starvation, Turkuaz's pitiful food will sustain you so you can survive.

Cons: Terrible service, below average food, rude waitstaff

Having read the other comments, I can't vouch for the service b/c we were among the very few customers and there were plenty of servers to take care of us. The food was good/very good, and though the prices were more than I would have expected for the UWS, I would return. Cool decor. Front room looks like a good date spot for drinks and meze.

I was at this restaurant last week with two of my friends. I must say the quality of the food had changed since the last time I was there which was like a year ago. It seems like they have a new and a better chef. Also I must say the service was unbelievably good this time. We were served by this beautiful Turkish waitress who really knew the food she was serving. She gave even the tiniest details about the food. She was elegant and knew a lot about not only the food but she also surprised us by how much she knows about other cultures and history. I know it's not a necessary detail for a waitress to be this knowledgeble but she only made our dining experience better with her recommendations and sweet sophisticated talk. I recommend Turkuaz to anyone who takes the dining experience seriously.

I had been there last Friday with my friends from college. They have traditional section that you feel yourself like a sultan. The waitstaff was very friendly. They prepared a special menu for us and the food was great. Other than the grills, stuffed cabbage and baklava was delicious. The restaurant is designed as a tent and with the belly dancer on weekends it was so much fun for us. We will definetely be back...

My fiance and I accidentally found Turkuaz while walking up Broadway last spring. We fell in love with the place instantly and have gone back a few time since then. So when we decided to have a pre-nuptial celebration dinner, we naturally chose Tuarkuaz and we could not have been more satisfied. The manager (Hkan) was great in helping pick a menu within our budget and gave us a prix fix menu that had a variety of entrees, unlimited appetizer and the most delicious dessert I have had in a long time. The service was excellent, the food was exquisite, and the belly dancer was great and involved the people in my party.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to have some good Turkish food whether for a small party or a big event!

But I havent found the service here to be terrible or the food to be bad. Never heard anything about a minimum required food order of $30 or had any bad experiences with the staff. I've been eating there for four years and the food quality has been consistantly excellent. The best time to go is for the all you can eat sunday brunch which includes about 40 dishes and costs less than $20/person. I've always found the service prompt and helpful and your water glass is never empty. The chicken is cooked to perfection, the zucchini pancakes are mouth-watering and they have the best dolmas I've ever eaten. My only complaint is that the meze are kind of expensive for what you're paying but you can order three of them and one main dish for two people and be stuffed (and spend less than $50 for dinner including tax and tip!). Just dont order too much at dinner, and definately go to the sunday brunch. I've never had a bad dining experience there yet!

In a party of 6, 4 dishes were brought out without the rice. When inquired, we were told that they were "out of rice." Without even informing the table, I'm assuming they hoped we wouldn't notice half the dishes weren't complete. Instead, they gave us plates of lettuce as "salads" for a substitute without asking the group first. After persisting, two bowls of rice were "magically" produced. Next to us, a woman was berated by the chef and three waiters after she found a hair in her food. It took 30 minutes to bring out our hummus, and the service was sooo slow. The lamb and okra dishes had almost NO lamb. Would definitely NEVER return.

The decor and ambiance are terrific. Staff are very gracious. Service can be slow, but it doesn't bother me, as I don't go to this place for a rushed meal. I've never felt "irritated" by what others here called slow service. Nonetheless, staff are always very polite. Food is overall "good", although some items really stand out, so I stick with those... the meze platter is to die for, as is stuffed cabbage. Skip dessert if you're a connoisseur. It's not the best. Belly dancer is not authentic, but is good dancer/entertainer nonetheless.

we were at this place 2 months ago (last may). it was 6 of us. it didn't take us long to realize what a rip-off this place is. the decor is not that bad. some tables are traditional ottoman. you have to sit in low rise chairs and the table is a copper plate. it could be really unfortable for a lot of people, because there is no space for more than 2 dishes.

now, the worst part, there is a minimum of $30 order to sit inside! WHAT A RIPOFF!! you can sit down and just have one dish or a couple of appetizers!! why? because they have a bellydancer! big-deal! she's not even authentic! she's an american student with no ability to belly dance! BIG FIASCO!

the waitresses are so snobby that if you don't order the most expensive wine, they don't even come back for 10 minutes!
