I am so excited, I don't know where to start... My hair has never looked so good. Chai is THEE high lighting guru.. I mean she's so good, I only go every 2 1/2 months for my re-touch. That's how great it grows out. Truly amazing! I've been going to her for a couple of years now and she's consistently delivered GREAT hair! not only to me, but my mom when she comes to town, my roommates and my co-workers. Finding a great Stylist that gets it, is like finding the best mechanic.. lol ya never wanna lose them!

Pros: Fierce style

Cons: obviously not enough people know....

After dropping $200 for (what were supposed to be subtle!) highlights, cut and blowout, and walking out with bleach-blonde -ish, frizzy-looking locks, I ran to another salon the next day to get my entire head dyed brown again. Ruined my weekend, put me $300 in the hole and am now stuck with the color I began highlighting ten years ago to get away from.......

(would have given zero stars in possible)

Pros: we give complimentary bang trims to walk-in too!

Cons: it's a busy salon and the space can sometimes get tight

I was looking for an experienced hair stylist that has some sense of fashion and what looks good on me... Chai cut my hair in a way that flattered the shape of my face and the color was amazing.. She wasn't afraid to step it up a notch, while keeping it somewhat conservative. She understands the importance of a consultation. She actually "listens" and therefore she delivers brilliance.

Been going to Le Chandelier for years now and have never been disappointed at all. I have used a few of the stylists there and have always had good results. They listen to what you want. I would highly recommend this salon!!

I recently moved from Chelsea to Park Slope. My friend told me Le Chandelier was the longest surviving salon on Fifth Avenue and that they have been in business for twelve years, so i decided to check them out. What I really liked is the "down to earth", non-intimidating, friendly atmosphere. The staff made me feel comfortable. Its a small salon with only three working chairs. I went with the owner and came out with one of the best haircuts I ever had. She let me dry under a head dryer, which I was I never had done and retouched the haircut after. I was amazed that my hair did not give me a problem even after I washed it at home two days later! I'm definately going back. She did not try to convince me to buy products either. When my friends visit me from Manhattan, I will try to get them to come here too. I'm sold!

I've been going to Le Chandelier for a couple years. There is a high turnover rate for stylists, and I have tried a bunch of different people - some good, some bad. Unfortunately the good ones don't stick around! Recently I went in for a trim and a stylist took it upon himself to cut over two inches off my length without consulting me! This salon has proven again and again to be UNPROFESSIONAL. That was the final straw and I won't be going back. I'm tired of paying A LOT OF MONEY for an unprofessional haircut/color. Go somewhere where your money will be worth it.

I really thought we were on the same page, after the consult and all. I guess she gave me someone elses cut. There wasn't much to do about it, so I just left unhappy. The staff seemed to be very unprofessional. I'll never go back. I don't get the rave reviews at all, especially the most current. ( they must be homemade). I'm so tired of reading these reviews that are full of it. I would recommend to get referrals from friends than reading all these bogus reviews.

This is one of the best salons in NY. and its proven by Citysearch to be in the top 10. Year 2008. They even have a plaque from Citysearch confirming this in the window. So im tired of these bogus reviews, (probably done by X-employees; read the bad reviews and you will see), who want to ride on the tail of this well extablished, professional, artistic salon. This is the only way i could figure out why anyone would not be happy here. Everyone gets free consults B-FORE a cut/color or style is done, so if you leave with something you did not relay properly, it is unfair to blame the stylist! I love this salon, so does my wife and many of our friends in Park Slope. So stop bashing them.

I am new to the area and was looking for a good hair salon. I read a bunch of online reviews for salons in the Slope area (so glad I did, there are so many badly reviewed places out there!) and eventually decided to give Le Chendelier a try - and I am SO happy I did! I didn't know what to expect and was a little nervous (previous hair salon traumas - I have very thick and wavy hair).
I called and got a same day appointment. I actually arrived a little earlier and didn't have to wait around.
Tara really listened to what I wanted (natural looking highlights that won't damage my already damaged hair) and she did a great job, not compromising the health of the hair. Her team were friendly and fun and the price very reasonable.
I am so happy I found Le Chendelier - I am definitely going back there :)

I have had my haircut by Janelle at Le Chandelier and she always does a good job. She talked to me about my color and I decided to have her do the color, only to realize afterwards that she is probably not a colorist. My husband says that my hair is "not a disaster" but it looks like I colored it at home and didn't know what I was doing. It's very intense, dark and doesn't suit my face coloring..... I am horrified because it was very expensive and I feel like I paid for a professional coloring job but got something amateurish.......
To sum up, get Janelle to cut your hair.
Don't let her color it...
Is she actually a colorist? I don't think so and, if not, they shouldn't charge full price!

I have been going to Tara for about 3 years now, and I can say with confidence, that nobody does highlights better than her. I swear, I can wait 3-4 months between appointments, and it barely looks like they have grown out. Granted, I ask her to keep them natural looking, which helps, but she absolutely knows what she is doing. As far as haircuts go, she is not afraid of giving me her opinion, but then she does only what I am comfortable with. I will admit that in a pinch, I have strayed to other places, but I have always regretted it. She is the best in Brooklyn, as far as I am concerned.

This salon is amazing! Chai is a sick new stylest who does my fun cuts, and Jen does my amazing color! The owner Tara is a real person who will make you feel right at home if your new to the area. The dates of the bad reviews areso old i decided to try it for myself sense its so close to home. The girls sitting around staring are upcoming stylest who just want to watch the cut, they want to learn and i can respect that. GO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!

this salon is okay but the people make it not so okay. the girls working there (not the stylists who are busy doing their jobs) but the other girls who sort of walk / sit around doing nothing, do just that - nothing, except STARE at the customers while getting their hair done. a person wants to walk into a salon, relax and not worry about being gawked at. Get a life girls and didn't yo mama tell you it's not nice to STARE.

I've been going to this salon for a few years and have been generally pleased with the service. The prices are reasonable, and the stylists have always done a good job. But just recently I had my hair cut by a male stylist there-- I'm not sure what his name was-- and received the worst haircut of my life. He was rude, didn't listen to what I wanted, and now my hair looks terrible. I'm never going back there again.

I've seen some good and bad reviews posted here and the bad reviews are many times neighborhood competitors bashing Le Chandelier Salon (which happens a lot on city search), disgruntle employees or customers who you could never please. Le Chandelier has been in business for over 11 years in Brooklyn and the owners have over 17 years of experience each with hundreds of returning satisfied customers. I think those number alone can speak to type of service you will get there. We get our hair cut and styled there all the time and never have issues, albeit I've seen some miserable customers in there, but hats off to the staff for handling them the best they can. So if you want a good hair cut/style, in my opinion you will get good service at Le Chandelier Salon.

I was looking for something different. A salon that I could trust and build a longterm relationship with. So I decided to go to La Chandalier because I heard about a stylist who does all types of hair and is super creative. Her name is Chai. I was apprehensive, explaining to her that I wanted something different but for her to stay true to who I am. She gave me personalized attention, great tips, great conversation and an even GREATER cut. She was wonderful! And I'd recommend her to anyone!!
The down side? The shampoo girls would rather stand around looking bored than to actually pay attention to the clientele. But that's a totally minor observation.

I am writing in response to the review in which one woman asks, "i wonder why those of us who love this place don't write as much as those who seem to have bad experiences." I'll venture an answer: because people like you must be few and far between. I had a simple blo out--not even a cut--and they couldn't get that right, beginning with the girl who washed my hair. She only washed the top! I had to point out to her that the back was still dry. Then, the girl who blew out my hair had no strength and didn't even use a brush that would grab the hair. Basic hair blowing 101. My hair was so bushy (despite the fact that the girl asked if I wanted volume, to which I replied "No. Devoid of volume, please."), I had to ask for the hot iron--an upcharge she did not inform me of. Oh, and one more thing ladies, they don't take cards, so bring cash if you still feel like venturing over there (another thing they failed to inform me of when I made my appointment).

I think it's a shame that those of us who love this place don't write as much as those who seem to have bad experiences. I've hunted for lots of salons and this place is great. Jennifer is totally no nonsense and gets the job done. I barely have to explain what I want from her for her to "get it" and give me exactly the cut and color I want. And it's SO affordable after a lot of rip-offs. She's doing my wedding hair and make-up and the consultation took 20 minutes and was exactly what I wanted. I've recommended to her to a ton of friends all of whom have been happy as well. Le Petite Chandelier is fantastic as well!

I don't understand how this place gets busy. Everyone seems so unprofessional. The salon is small as it is. The energy you feel in the place is not good. I saw co-workers having it out, and it wasn't pretty. I have enough drama in my life. My cut and color is a whole nother story. I would never go back to this horror. The prices were so off. I was so upset, that I just ran out of there.

I have tried a lot of salons around the city and finally found one I will stick with. Jennifer, a stylist at LeChandelier, has been cutting and coloring my hair for almost a year. I have never been so happy with my highlights, and I've been highlighting my hair since high school. They look totally natural, she always does a great job. The price is right and she really takes good care of you and knows what she's talking about. Thanks Jennifer!

This wanna be salon is so tacky. I will never give them another penny of mine. I should demand a refund. I hate my hair. It looks horrible. Between my cut and color, I'm not sure which is worse. They were so mean to me and my mom. Very unprofessional in my book. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Having a stylist who not only has talent, but LISTENS to the client, is priceless.

After I received a complete hack job of a haircut from another salon on 5th Ave., I (in desperation) called Le Chandelier for help. They fit me in within a few hours, and I had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Janelle gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had, after taking the time to discuss with me exactly what I didn't like about my hair and what she could do to fix it. Even though she squeezed me in at the last minute between other appointments, I never felt that she was distracted or in a rush to finish with me. I've been back three times for trims, as well as to add bangs to my previously one-length bob, and each time I was thrilled with the results. I always, always look great when I leave, and my cut maintains its shape even with my own slightly inept at-home styling.

Also: They have an adorable girl who shampoos hair and gives the best scalp massage in the western hemisphere, AND the services are very reasonably priced.

Does anyone know where Lori works now? They wouldn't tell me at Le Chandelier (although I'm sure they know). She told me awhile ago that she was working part-time at an organic salon in Manhattan so she may be there full-time now. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name! I miss her, she's the best haircutter I've ever had!

I went to this salon with my sister. What a mistake I made. I was so angry. The salon was so busy, that everyone was nasty. Our cuts were both booked wrong, so it took forever to get out of this nightmare. My sister was from out of town and I was so embarrased. The girl didn't listen to me at all. She must of cut 3-4 inches off, when I asked for a trim. My sister said, never again. Shame on you.!!!!!!

I would never go back to this salon. This salon was such a joke. Everyone was so unprofessional. Alot of attitude and no talent. I need to find a new salon to go to. My haircolor is horrible. I have red roots and brown ends, and everyone is telling me how great it looks. I had to run out of there.

oh my GOD people. BEWARE of this salon. I have been to the salon three times and this is my last time going. in short, my hair is an ungodly color, similar to orange, and i have STRIPES. not highlights but terrible, cheap looking stripes. i went in to get highlights and lowlights in my already existing dark blonde hair. wanting something subtle, we spoke about how to get my roots even with my ends. three hours, two blown fuses in the salon and whole lot of attitude later, i walked out wondering what had happend.

let me also say that i have been to the smaller salon and got great service. i recieved and updo from Rudy which was fantastic. i also went to the main salon and got a decent cut at a fair price. but nothing is worth coming out of a salon and wanting to hide, and then having to try and fix tons of mistakes.

overall this place is cheap but the service is terrible and not worth havingt o compromise your look. i was offered a discount after another stylist tried to tell me i was crazy for not liking the color. then the colorist told me she could fix it but was triple booked so didnt do antyhing. i was shuffled around from chair to chair, forgot about for a long time and then treated like I was the one who did something wrong.

all i can say is if you want a cheap cut this may be the place, but its not worth the bad treatment and horrible service for anything more elaborate.

For all of you that have been missing Rudy, guess what... he is cutting hair in Park Slope! He has opened his own salon Fez Salon at 351 5th Ave (between 4th and 5th Streets). The telephone number is 718.965.1714. What I found really, really uncool about the folks at Le Chandelier Salon is that they misled people (including myself and a lot of my friends) into thinking that Rudy had left the salon business, which is totally not true. Turns out, he is just up the block and giving his usual fabulous haircuts at a very reasonable rate! He also has a colorist, Anthony, who seems very nice and is highly recommended by Rudy. I was so happy when I bumped into Rudy in the neighborhood and he told me of his new salon. I had my haircut today by him and it is perfect, as usual! Spread the word, Rudy is still cutting hair in Park Slope!!

My name is Jennifer, and I am a stylist at Le Chandelier Salon. It has been brought to my attention that the salon has had some negative reviews recently. I feel compelled to respond not only in defense of myself as a stylist, but of my salon as a respectable, reputable place of business.

Le Chandelier has been located here on 5th Ave in park slope for nearly ten years now, and has a massive following. Park slope, as most of you well know, has changed drastically over the last ten years. As a small, successful business in this evolving neighborhood, Le Chandelier has also had to undergo some alterations over the past ten years.

This past year in particular has been an exciting transitional period for Le Chandelier, both aesthetically and technically. As many of you have noted, the face of the Le Chandelier's team has also changed. Since I began working for Le Chandelier in July, there have been four other girls hired, each bringing a unique artistic dynamic to the team. We are a strong, talented group of people who pride ourselves on our proffessionalism and cooperation as creative unit.

We at Le Chandelier are excited about the recent changes the salon is undergoing, and yet understand that not everyone may feel this same way. I am writing this to let all of you know that we at Le Chandelier will do whatever we need to do to continue to provide our clients with the outstanding service we have come to be known for. To those of you who continue to be a part of our creative world, we thank you.

I was never one for a salon. I mean the barber down the street always seemed to work for me. I was convinced by a friend to go to Le Chandelier. He said that with my curly hair I deserved a "real" haircut. So I followed his suggestion and set up an appointment with Jennifer. After telling her what the barber usually did, I asked her for her opinion as to what else I could do. I wanted a cut that would look clean but still be curly and a bit "wild" I left with just that. Jen really seemed to be able to read what I wanted and then ran with it. My experience wasn't hurt by the fact that all the stylists were fun, energetic, and pretty damn good looking too!

I've been going to see Rudy for a couple of years and was always so happy with the haircuts I received. He was very attentive, asked before he cut any single hair, and gave honest opinions about what he thought would look good/stylish. With Rudy's haircuts, I had more people stop me in the subway, on the street, and other random locations to engage me in conversation about my hair, where I got it cut, contact info, etc. So, I was horribly sad and dismayed when I learned that Rudy left the salon, I guess in early January. I just got my hair cut by Tara and was fairly disappointed by the experience. The cut looks okay, but she spent maybe 5 minutes on my hair and just made a few choice cuts with some scissors before sending me on my way. It was not nearly as positive of an experience as I've been having with this salon for the past couple of years. I'll probably try it again and if the service is the same, I'm going to need some suggestions for new salons.

I came here twice to see Lori and got a great cut both times. When I wanted color done I tried to make an appt with her and was told she left the salon. I made an appt with Jennifer, who the receptionist raved about. I told her I wanted a chocolate brown color, and picked out a color sample and named some famous people with similar hair colors to what I wanted. I specifically said: please don't make it too dark, and I don't want a lot of red in it. I wound up with black hair with purple highlights. I left the salon and my friend said, "You can't go out like this - go back." I did, and Jennifer was nice about it, and did a bunch of stuff to my hair... which is now black with RED highlights. If cherry coke were a hair color, it'd be what's on my head. I look like a Marilyn Manson groupie. Is it a pretty color? Sure, I guess. For a 19 year old rocker, maybe. But NOTHING like what I asked for. Now today I have to go somewhere else and PRAY they can fix it - and pay for it, again. It's a shame because I loved Lori. I guess that's it for Le Chandelier.

Pros: Pretty Salon, Good prices.

Cons: Colorist did the opposite of what I asked for.

Does anyone know where Rudy went?? I just received a totally mediocre cut from the new stylist at Le Chandelier and am tempted to march back in and demand a re-cut. She nonchalantly turned what was an easy long-layered trim into a trendy mullet-chop. Furthermore, the blowdry was completely careless and left me with less than salon-worthy hair. . . If anyone has Rudy's contact info, PLEASE let me know!

I've been going here for a couple of years, and usually see Rudy, but when I called for an appointment they told me he's no longer there. I let them schedule me for the new stylist, as I've literally never gotten a bad hair cut at this place. Unfortunately, she spent only about 5 minutes cutting my hair and then abandoned me under the dryer without even showing me the back of the cut. Once I finally got a look at it, my hair was choppy and blah, hardly passable. I'm scared to see how the cut grows out, as she obviously didn't take that into consideration even though I told her I'm growing my hair out. Stick with Tara or one of the other experienced stylists.

I have been going to Le Chandelier for about 4 years. Joanne is simply the best colorist around. And as far as hair cuts given my thick curly hair, i couldn't ask for better. Amazing. She listens to what you want and is able to make it happen. I have never had a bad experience. Go there if you want to look your best!!!

Don't normally write bad reviews, but this time I am compelled to write SOMETHING. I'm sad to say this was the worst haircut I've ever received, twice...

After having a pretty bad first experience (didn't like the cut, rude stylist, whatever, happens...), I decided to try another stylist since it is close to where I live. The second time was even worse, I arrived 5 minutes late and was told that they weren't going to be able to blow-dry my hair. I then received a 10 minute haircut, and was ushered out of the chair with wet hair in 35 degree weather. I got home and the next morning I realized that my hair was completely uneven and I even had some "missed" longer hairs in my bangs and in the rest of my hair... I had also said "shoulder-length", and ended up looking like a little pixie, with the hair resting right under my ears...

HORRIBLE! I felt like just another number in a Super-Cuts, with terrible hair to match and out $60... I'll never go there again....

I have always been a fan of Le Chandelier on fifth ave. Been going there for years and always get a terrific cut and color. I work with lots of high maintenance girls who go to the top salons in the city, and I always get compliments from them on my hair style and highlights---little do they know that I've been paying much less than they could probably even imagine. Le Chandelier is truly a top notch bargain and a treasured salon in Park Slope.

I had to write because I was so excited to visit the new location on 3rd Avenue. The same great service, and the salon is so beautiful. The calming colors and beautiful slate floor makes you feel like you are in a spa, and the lovely new environment is the perfect setting to enjoy your time with the always friendly and interesting staff. It is really a comfortable place, and a great adddition to a part of the neighborhood that is sure to be on the upswing. I think they will really be at the forefront of creating a new destination avenue in the slope. If they say they have an opening there-GO!--you'll enjoy it!! I know I did.

Here's how good Le Chandelier is: my husband and I moved from Park Slope to New Jersey 6 years ago, and we still go back to Brooklyn for our haircuts. Tara has been cutting and coloring my hair since before she even opened her own store, and she is just the best. Whenever I get a haircut or highlights, I inevitably get multiple compliments and queries as to who did the work. My husband will not let anyone else cut his hair. Tara and her staff are also extremely nice and the prices are reasonable. I can't recommend Le Chandelier highly enough.

The staff is great!!! Lori has a natural flair for highlights, cuts and styles. She takes time with your hair and recommends products that will be beneficial. This was the first time I got highlights that my hair did not frizz. It looks smooth and natural!!! I highly recommend Le Chandelier and Lori .

Have been getting my color and cut at this salon for 2 years now. I'm glad to say that I trust Joanne with my hair. before that, it was at least 15 years of never being completely satisfied with hair service from any salon I have been to. I'ts great to talk to a stylist who listens to what you want and gives you exactly that. would highly recommend going to Le Chandelier and having a Free consultation with Joanne.

I moved to Park Slope from San Francisco. I have to say, I am very fussy when it comes to my hair and would only go to a certain hair salon when I lived in CA. I knew this wasnt going to be a pleasant adventure, looking for a place here in NY where I would be totally satisified. I was recommended by a close friend to go to Le Chandelier Salon on 5th Avenue. I must say, I felt very welcome and comfortable as soon as I walked through the door. I explained what I wanted, color, cut, etc. I was more than happy - especially with the color - it was EXACTLY what I envisioned! The owner of the salon really put me at ease and made me feel very relaxed. In my opinion, she is the best colorist I have ever been to. I would highly recommend Le Chandelier Salon to anyone and everyone. They are professional, accommodating, and down to earth. Whether it's your first time in Park Slope looking for a great hair place or not really satisfied with your current salon - you will fall in love with the people, place and workmanship at Le Chandelier! Simply the Best.
