Got the blue plate for $20 with braised pork over pasta with chives tomato ragout. It also comes with bread and a spicy bean dip. Delicious. Comes with your choice of beer or one of three reds. Dessert is still to come. I am here now!

We stumbled (luckily) into Alias, because another favorite brunch spot was busy with a private event. A simple & quaint place. The food was AMAZING! I had the biscuits & gravy ? which I?ve not had in years! 2 other people in our party had the eggs benedict which were equally as delicious. The staff was very friendly & accommodating. A+ for the Bloody Marys! We?ll definitely be back. Thanks!

I can't wait to go back to Alias. In a city where you have so many choices that I feel guilty going somewhere twice, I will go this place again and again.

We did have a lovely evening, but it was mostly due to the amazing food and good wine. I love the fact that the menu has a few starters and then just one of every type of dish: one chicken, one meat, one fish, pasta etc.

I ordered the hanger steak to start and they were the best I've ever had. They were so meaty and cooked so perfectly that they melted in your mouth. I had the sea scallop and it was quite nice. I can't remember the ingredients, but it was cooked very well.. My friend had the pasta, and it was seriously perfect.
Our staff was so friendly , knowledgeable and attentive. I recommend to anyone.

The prix fixe menu on Sunday is amazing. It offers more or less the same items as their regular menus, just no tacos or burgers. I had the pork chop (yum!). Great laidback atmosphere with warm colors in the restaruant. Would definitely come back again.

Pros: Prix Fixe menu

Cons: Sat in a drafty corner

.

Going out to a nice resatuarant is usually a disapointment for me. I'm a good cook and can usually fix the food better and cheaper at home. But ALIAS is a big treat because they do it way better than I can. You better believe that I took notes on the salads, veggies , sides and appetizers. I can't begin to match their grilled stuff, no matter how I try. It was quality all around, the wine, the staff, the ease of the place. Everything made me smile. Go early. Leatha S

Pros: The food is really good. It's a comfortable place to be.

Cons: parking and hard to locate

.

It looks like a Bodega from the outside but the quality of the food inside is not from a deli for sure. I love the food. The menu has a few eclectic options but it also has mac and cheese and chicken and steak so there is something for everyone. The servers look like wanna be rock stars and unenthused but on the contrary, they are super nice and attentive. One of best of the LES.

The menu is nothing remarkable, but really good quality comfort food with interesting twists on the norm. From the outside, the restaurant isn't overly inviting, but once you get in it is chic and quaint. Prices are very reasonable and our server was very attentive. Great for Brunch or for an inexpensive dinner.

Stopped by for brunch today and loved the food and service. Such a cute looking place. Server was very friendly and the food was a good value. Will definitely be back because brunch is often over priced and boring. This menu has a great southern feel in the heart of the LES

Sometimes you just want a simple, good, reasonably-priced meal. Alias is it. You can immediately see the attention they pay to their mostly local ingredients and it shines through in the understated, hit-the-spot American fare. Not only is the dinner consistently good, their brunch is a wonderfully relaxed experience with killer Bloody Mary's and all. And, of course, after your meal you're in the perfect neighborhood for some window shopping and people gawking...

Pros: Good Food - Neighborhood

Cons: Sometimes a wait

I've been to Alias several times and have never been disappointed. The food is always absolutely delicious and the menu is ever changing for the seasons. Out of town company is always impressed and the prices are very reasonable. I can never finish an evening there with out having their Guieness Goodness. It sounds strange but it's a must try.

I wandered in here one evening to be absolutely delighted. The space is warm and cozy on a cold winter's evening. The staff is polite and efficient. The star is the fresh seasonal dishes which were rich and balanced in flavor and texture. There are several high-end trendy places of note in the neighborhood, but this is truly a hidden gem. The space is somewhat small, so I hope it stays underrated for now.

so far the nicest thing of my new apt is to be a few steps away from this restaurant.
a consistent and just good place for a nice dinning experience, a triky thing on clinton
st this days. the food is great, their wine list is great, service is professional, another hard comodity
on this block! really anice place.

The last reviewer goes to a brunch on new year's and complains about a 30 minute wait. I don't think they understand New York Brunch.

Anyways, onto my experience. Deliciously inventive food and drinks. The beef brisket was tender and succulent, the acorn squash adorned with different mushrooms was creative and tasty. The drinks were mixed to perfection.

Our wait staff was very attentitive, but by no means overbearing. I will definitely go back to Alias and bring friends. A standout in an already great neighborhood for restaurants.

Our group of 5 people waited about 30 mn outside for a table, which is fine for a good brunch place. Once we got our table, we waited another 15 mn to get our orders taken even though I had indicated to our waiter that we were ready to order. We had Eggs Benedict: decent eggs, stingy on the cream, good bacon. Their talked-about Goetta (some type of cheese) comes with the Eggs benedict: it's essentially fried cheese, similar to mozzarella but with a burnt taste. No bread with the Eggs Benedict.
The veggie taco was good, and the steak and eggs was very good. Service is poor, no one checked on us for the 1h15 min we were there. Perhaps dinner is a better deal.

i was kinda disappointed by this place. i would not call it trendy by any means. the interior is kinda like a small, bad diner - and with no kitsch value. i did have a delicious strawberry salad and my meal was good, but the service was really slow and poor, and the pricing fairly high.

Pros: good fresh food

Masked from it's outside decor, the small dining room puts you up close to your hosts. While each time you look up, your staring at the craftsman who is responsible for what you have ordered. The small menu is close to ideal in variety and quality, and the tastes are simple and crisp. The service was noninvasive, but very out of reach, and the wine list was nice but lacked variety in whites. Perfect for an intimate setting with guests and friends, just don't bring too many! I can't wait to return.

This was one of my favorites from a few years ago. A magazine ran an article on the new chef saying that he was great. Quite the opposite. The menu is small (5-6 entrée choices) which is fine, but 3 of them were unenviable! We were left to choose between boring salmon and chicken entrées or a duck substitution. We picked the duck and what came out of the kitchen was embarrassing. A single overcooked and way over-salted duck leg confit on shredded cabbage for $17! They also substituted cheaper duck liver mouse for a foie gras appetizer with without telling us. Skip this place and go to AKA Café for better and cheaper eats!!

Fantastic food and great service! A wonderfully unassuming boite. The hanger steak with blue cheese crumbles is delicious - definitely "indulgent". The menu, while small, provides good variety. Careful attention has clearly gone into the concise wine list. We enjoyed a 1999 Laurona Grenache-Carignan blend that was surprisingly superb. And of all of these items at very VERY reasonable prices. I will definitely be visiting again (hopefully, soon)!

You Can't Tell A Book By Its Cover

Don't let the look fool you. This is one of New York's
treasures. The plain and simple corner "Bodega look" befits the "look" of the neighborhood and the food is as complex and rich as the history and the present gentrification of the very same neighborhood. Some of the best food we have had
in New York at VERY reasonable prices. Everything we ate from apps to desert left us all looking at each other and saying "WOW, I am impressed". We indulge in New York's finest a great deal and this will become a stand by for sure. The menu is small but varied and everything on it is perfect!
The wine list goes along with the rest of the menu, short, well selected and reasonable. Go as you are and I promise you will return often!

i really enjoy this restaurant...i often eat out alone since my work schedule is hectic and my fiancee travels alot - i love going here and just enjoying great food, and great service in a nice low key environment.

last time i was there the hostess kept filling my wine glass - and of course that's always appreciated when you're only charged for 1 glass!

i had picked this place for a friend's belated bday dinner. (FYI- i normally don't go to LES) I was VERY close to getting a heart attack by its outter appearance. (in my mind, i have to find a better place! I knew i should've stuck to my usual picks!) Then i calmed down as a friend pulled me inside. tables were a bit crammed, but overall i had a lotta fun with foods. there were 5 girls AND could;ve order all items on the menu :P i would go back if i ever traveled down there.

Four thumbs up. We and another fairly demanding couple went on a summer Friday with high expectations, given the pedigree of the kitchen staff. We were not disappointed. The appetizers, including the pickles, were amazingly prepared, with thought given to flavor, preparation, amount, and presentation. They succeeded on all levels. The main courses were even better, if possible. Shrimp served lobster style, trout, and chicken fried portobello mushroom were all incredibly inventive, perfectly sized and just simply amazing. We enjoy taking gambles in restaurants, and the pickles payed off, as did the bay leaf custard dessert, which had no bay leaf, but had the essence, which amazed us. Ambiance and service were casually elegant downtown style, precisely fitting the clientele and neighborhood.

After enjoying Clinton Fresh Food so much, I decided to try Alias. The cocktails for $6 were pretty good (the red sangria and a champagne/blood orange cocktail). The best part of the meal was the appetizer: a skate fish cake dish that was delicious. The steak was okay, but nothing great, with skewers of cherry tomato and onion. The salmon was okay as well. For dessert, a chocolate bomb was pretty disappointing! I think Clinton is MUCH better, but Alias is worth trying. It has a large selection of sea food.

I love 71 Clinton Fresh Food...so when I found out they were on vacation, I decided to try out one of the other fab restaurants on Clinton. Let me say first off...the food at Alias is very good and the decor is sleek & cool. Why 3 Stars? - the service. We had to wait (longer than normal)for pretty much everything (water, bread, orders taken, wine, courses, dishes cleared, etc.) We had to, most of the time there, wave down someone when needed. I ordered two higher priced bottles of wine and pretty much poured it myself. No one asked us how any of our courses were. Maybe it was an off night (I also ran into friends of mine on the way out & they were having the same problem with service) but it just wasn't a well-rounded evening. I will be back to try them again -my food was very good.

I wasn't a fan of relative 71 clinton, so i was prepared to be disappointed. It was great though. Had a late dinner at the tiny bar - service was warm and unobtrusive. The pickle plate was a nice adventure. Pork shoulder was tender and flavorful, if not a bit heavy. I would definitely come back again.

This place was great, the menu was smaller than most, but everything we ordered was delicious and original. The food took a little while to come, but it was well worth the wait and we were fine sipping the fabulous sangria and chatting. Highly reccomend for anyone looking for interesting dishes with wonderful flavor.

my husband and I decided to try alias when we read about it in new york magazine. we've been to 71 clinton and had an amazing meal, but actually liked this one better AND it was less expensive. the wine list is small but really well chosen. the menu is inventive, delivering cohesive well executed plates and the service was friendly and attentive. we've eaten at more than our share of 5 star resturants and alias can more than hold it's own. we'll be going again and often.
