I might agree with people saying they were treated like crap here. But only cuz the way they're complaining makes it sound like they got what they deserved. You walk into a place being an a$$hole, 99.99% of the time you will be treated like an a$$hole. Be nice and polite and thats how you will be treated in return. I've been going there for 15 years since I was old enough and never once was I treated bad. Today I went there for a water dish that my cats won't flip. And I left being in a employees prayers. I lost my 5 year old son 7 days ago and this girl was amazing and friendly. I only wish I wasn't working so hard not to cry and had gotten her name. Because if I got her name, I'd be on the phone with the highest authority of that business complimenting her! There are no words to describe an a employee like that. She put a smile on my face, and on my 9 year old daughters face. You can't ask for better customer service than that! So you people complaining... Try being nice to people if thats what you expect from them. Nobody wants attitude!

I have to agree with the majority of the reviews on the rudeness in the store. I've overlooked that as much as possible. Lately it's been worse and is moreso on one managers end. As the owner is away, the store does not run like it used to. Mistakes are made too often. I've heard sarcasm and harshness. The owner had done a fantastic job in the past and I have shopped at his store as far back as it was Pet World in the plaza behind the location now. I have left messages, stopped in many times, asked for him, and I haven't gotten any response. As it stands now I only go in on Thursday's knowing that day of staff is excellent! But, schedules do change and so have the employees all too often. A manager actually bad mouthed another manager to me and in front of other patrons. Poor way to get customers back. In the owner's defense, I don't believe he truly knows what is going on in his store when he's not there. And if he does, he has changed from the way he ran things which is what brought him great profit to begin with years ago. I am buying most of my animal needs elsewhere now because of the rudeness in the store, and Thursday is not always convenient for me to shop.

Horrendous Customer Service! Asked to speak to the owner concerning a customer service matter I was not pleased with. Store Mgr reported he was 'out of town', but would have him call. He called me the next day, panting, ready to do battle before the conversation even began. Stated he was 5 feet away from the initial discussion I had with the store mgr, (so much for being out of town, so that was a lie). I could tell my conversation with him was going to go no where, so offered to end the conversation right then, but he stated: 'he wanted to know what the problem was', when I began to relay that as a CUSTOMER, I felt that I was not treated in way that I felt I should have been. Hoping we could have a mature, man to man discussion, instead his reply was: "Go back to WalMart!". I urge everyone to go elsewhere where your business is sincerely appreciated. BTW, bought the same item at Tractor Supply in Vestal for 20% less than at CC. Sad, where has the commitment customer service gone in this Country?

I can't stand even going into this place because everyone that works there is so fricken rude! Plus, when I went in there with my boyfriend I asked about buying a fish and the lady there grilled me when I told her what fish I already had and how big my fish tank is. I already did my research on it and I could've put more fish in there, I'm not a moron. I just hate going into the store they are all snobby and rude! If you want help go somewhere else where they will actually be happy to help you and not be miserable.

they do not care for there reptile right i can tell you this one. defently has some mean reptile. i know it a business but handle your pets. i dont know about other stuff but reptiles i am sure of. do not buy from here. yea this is a bad review. once i see them better taking care of i will come back on here and tell everyone things have changed. but you own a PET STORE. its suppose to be about caring for animals not just money. i bet at one time it was all about the animals.

I love this store! They house their animals very well. I think the pets are very happy here and least stressed when you buy them compared to other local stores. The girls there are very sweet and helpful, I also kind of have a crush on one of them. ;-)

I buy everything here!

creature comforts is a locally owned and operated store. the employees are well trained and courtious. if anyone helps and doesnt know how to answer my questions, they get someone who does. the store is clean, the animals are well kept and they have a big selection. i give them two thumbs up.

The most unprofessional store i have ever been to. Although the store is always clean and presentation is outstanding...its all a fake front! I originally started my tropical aquarium from this store, and over the past two years i have lost every single fish i have purchased from this store!! It is very convenient for them that their fish warranty is only 5 days, as compared to other places ( PetSmart or PetCo) which have 15 - 30 days!!!! The most awful advice i have ever heard was from the (i think) manager...once again i went back with the two snail i bought just two days earlier because they have died...gave her my water sample...and she was determined to find something wrong. After three separate water testing kits she came up with that i needed more calcium in my water. All i do is read aquarium books, research...everything you can think of, well one of the things i learned is that there is no calcium additive for freshwater, and if you do make changes to raise the calcium level, it is very harmful to the fish and you will most likely lose all of them!!! Great help she was! I just can say enough about this store to warn everyone. I keep giving them second chances and every time i leave the store i wonder why as my blood pressure is through the roof!!! I think the best part is watching an employee get fish from a a tank and drop them on the floor! No wonder why they only have a 5 day guarantee...because they will not last much longer than that! And in my defense, the only reason i have gone back is the gift certificates i have gotten for all my dead fish! TO ALL OF YOU READING THIS AND ALL OTHER REVIEWS, PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME AND GO TO ANOTHER STORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J & J fish, PetSmart, PetCo, Nature's Best Fish..........I highly recommend all of these stores! If you really want a great experience and learn A LOT...Nature's Best Fish is A+++++++++++++++++

Not the best place to get everything pet related, but I would give them an A+ for both fish + birds. Dogs and cats, maybe a B-, but I do think it is a quality store, and it's good to have local businesses around, but it is a rather expensive store. I can't complain though, I have bought parakeets from them in great health, and a hamster who was so amazing, silly to talk about a hamster that way, but she was. So, it has it's good and bad, but I don't buy anything for my birds other than here.

I went to Creature Comforts a day or two after Christmas, I bought an Iguana there. I figured for a baby iguana the price was quite cheap! Especially since he was a gentle one and blue! He was a beautiful little thing and the woman gave us information about everything we needed to know about him and more on how to take care of him and such. What would be best for him she even told us! The animals there looked quite happy, the only ones that didn't move about were sleeping, the others were eating happily and moving around, some being funny little things. The only animal [besides a tortoise which outlives us] that was expensive were the birds but those are raised from eggs to the size they are now. The store is pretty great but I had only done shopping for ONE iguana so my opinion isn't too great. I bought a feeding and watering rock, a huge bag of bedding, a heating light bulb and a artificial sun light bulb plus the iguana came out to about 104 dollars. Pretty pricey for the small amount I had bought but the light bulbs have lasted from Christmas to now [only the artificial sun light being turned off for his 12 hours of night] but over all the help was great and the store seemed pretty good over all. So my personal opinion would be to shop there!

I even heard the owner treat a customer like a child and was very rude. I walked out and saved my money and time for Petsmart??..A whole hell of a lot better store.

I no longer live in the area, but when I did my husband and I used to go to Creature Comforts. After reading the reviews I must totally agree with the majority about the rudeness and the know it all attitude. I was wondering through there one day and noticed in the iguana enclosure there was an extremely large one laying across the neck of a much smaller one. Also they house guinea pigs with rabbits...that is a big no-no. I do enormous amounts of research on animals before I even consider getting them so I know that for a fact! And a long long time ago I once applied for a job here...all the questions about animals on the application was about fish...so for them to have hired someone that doesn't know anything about fish is just rediculous! My husband and I have also bought fish from Creature Comforts and have gotten grilled about our tank and what we have even how many goldfish to have in one tank. We used to lie to get out of getting the third degree about our fish tank!
I still know more about animals and pets than any one of those morons!

I used to work at Creature Comforts and some of you people don't know what you are talking about. The customer who liked that we asked about their fish had it right- 99% of people are either just starting with fish, or have no idea what they are doing. They ask questions because if they don't the blame goes back on them. I for one am glad they do, before i started working there i had fish and they helped me a lot. when i was younger and went to Playful Pets they sold me some tetras, an angle fish and 2 parrot fish. of course the parrot fish ate the rest of them, i wish THEY had asked questions instead of just trying to get a sale. You probably get warned about you're fish because they don't want you to come back insisting that you give them your money back because you made a stupid decision.
Perhaps the reason that you can't find someone to help you is because all the employees are with customers (they keep 3-4 on the floor at all times, not including the manager). You probably find someone at pet smart pretty quick because they are always void of customers. I've been there before. they have an aweful selection of fish- people complain that their fish die all the time. the one time i thought i would try a fish there i had to walk all over the store, didn't see a single customer, or employee. i gave up and left.
since you are an animal lover would you prefer that a pet store not ask questions and sell any pet to any one? not make sure they have all the supplies they need?
i saw many people come in with pets from other stores and they got really upset when they found out all of the things they REALLY needed that they weren't told when the purchased it.
most stores are only in it for the sale, so they don't tell you that the 10$ turtle is really going to cost about 100$ to start up with.
If you go into a store and they refuse a sale, maybe they are looking out for the best interest of the animal (they need advocates) instead of the money. if you think its ok to keep an animal in less than satisfactory condition- maybe you shouldn't own them.
one thing i agree with- DO RESEARCH! It makes things much easier when you know what you are talking about and have legit questions to ask.
to the person with a guinea pig- you realize that something can't evaporate out of a water bottle right? therefore the vitamin c that they recommended was legit. if it was in an open dish, sure it would evaporate, but since water doesn't evaporate out of the bottle, neither will the Vitamins- it has no where to go but to stay in the water. I've seen many piggies with scurvy because they don't get their vitamin c, i'd rather not, so yea, i would say to use it as a precaution too.

I have been to the front st. store several times and only once did i have an issue with the sales help. Most are all very nice and helpful. Just got off the phone with them and they answered all my questions and went out of their way to get me the answers. Just want to tell them THANK YOU !!!!

Mixed opinions about the store. I go there all the time because it is close, buying crickets there is fine. Everything else is overpriced by varying amounts.
As most others stated, the employees need a major attitude adjustment. They act like they know it all, but many are arrogant and misinformed. I have received false information there, and have heard others being falsely informed. They talk to you like you're a child, seem so full of themselves, you tend to want to believe them. DO NOT TAKE THEIR WORD, ALWAYS DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!! Some of their advice could do harm to your pets! I was sold a light for my reptile, two of the girls consulted each other and agreed it was the best light I could get. I put the light in the tank and noticed my pet was having problems. After research, I found out that the light they sold me could blind my pet and then refused to return the "used" product.
Looking to buy a fish at Creature Comforts? Think again! First, you have to find someone to help you, then once you've found your disgruntled employee, and show them what fish you want, the interrogation begins. They will ask you all about your setup, then scolded because they believe you are doing everything wrong. After 5-10 minutes of interrogation and lecture they say you cant have the fish or they wont guarantee it. They actually told me 3 goldfish was all I could house in a 55 gal aquarium! Seriously?
You're better off taking the drive elsewhere, try Pet Smart on the vestal parkway. They have a larger selection, better prices and less attitude!

Mixed opinions about the store. I go there all the time because it is close, buying crickets there is fine. Everything else is overpriced by varying amounts.
As most others stated, the employees need a major attitude adjustment. They act like they know it all, but many are arrogant and misinformed. I have received false information there, and have heard others being falsely informed. They talk to you like you're a child, seem so full of themselves, you tend to want to believe them. DO NOT TAKE THEIR WORD, ALWAYS DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!! Some of their advice could do harm to your pets! I was sold a light for my reptile, two of the girls consulted each other and agreed it was the best light I could get. I put the light in the tank and noticed my pet was having problems. After research, I found out that the light they sold me could blind my pet and then refused to return the "used" product.
Looking to buy a fish at Creature Comforts? Think again! First, you have to find someone to help you, then once you've found your disgruntled employee, and show them what fish you want, the interrogation begins. They will ask you all about your setup, then scolded because they believe you are doing everything wrong. After 5-10 minutes of interrogation and lecture they say you cant have the fish or they wont guarantee it. They actually told me 3 goldfish was all I could house in a 55 gal aquarium! Seriously?
You're better off taking the drive elsewhere, try Pet Smart on the vestal parkway. They have a larger selection, better prices and less attitude!

I'm big into reptiles, so the selection at Creature Comforts has been great for me. I've gotten 3 animals from here, two still living (little corn snake died from a bacterial infection).

I went in to get a guinea pig one day (we live almost an hour from the store). They were all to happy to hand the pig over, however INSISTED that I buy a bottle of vitamins for the water. I already had a guinea pig, and have never used this stuff. My pig was fine. I said I feed them fresh lettuce and fruits/veggies every other day (which I do), but I was told I HAVE TO HAVE IT. Later research on the stuff said that it's next to useless, since vitamin C (which the pigs need), evaporates very fast in water.

Also, I'm pretty confident that I know much more about reptiles then any of the employees at the store. And while no one there has ever been rude to me, the "annoyed" attitude when asked questions is definitely there.

Bottom line, store is great, employees could use an overhaul.

My boys and I had great service at this store. We went in with very little knowledge about what we were looking at. A young lady named Desirae(sp?) helped us and never seemed annoyed by our many questions. We finally decided on a baby bearded dragon over a guinea pig and she explained everything we would need for it. She did not seem at all put off when I told her we wouldn't be buying it right then because I needed to find out what size tank we already had. Instead she simply told me her name and to never hesitate to ask if we had any questions. Everyone in the store seemed very nice, thank you for your help.

We went in and had this female I think it was well her name was Jody, she was so rude she wasn't knowledgeable at all about what we needed. She was just pushing her business on us. Or was she trying to get our address? No owner was seen.

The owner of the store is a real JERK because of him I would be hard pressed to shop in that store again . If it was not for Tom ,Terry, and a FEW other employees in that store their is no way the JERK could keep it open!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Calling the owner a jerk is being kind!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER spending several hundred dollars at this store because of how MR JERK treats his customers I will be more than glade to tell how I feel about him!! It is a shame that a person with a store like his he does not know how to treat his customers. The store is a clean and neat place to go except for MR JERK....

My friends and I were assisted today by a black haired, obnoxious girl. She acted like we were wasting her time when we asked her if she could catch us some fish. She was brash, had a know it all attitude. While the other employees looked cute in their jeans and brown shirts (nice combination), this one had her bell bottoms rolled up like Huckleberry Finn, AND she smelled bad! She also snapped at another employee while she was helping us. She by far is the most unprofessional store employee that I have ever encountered.

When we were shopping for a Parrot we consulted with Susan (One of the employees), and she was very good and very patient with us. We went to see this bird every week until it was time for us to bring her home. On each occasion Susan was very helpful with giving us helpful hints about its care. Its been 4 years now and she is still very helpful. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I had a lady named Jody help me and she was wonderful! I couldn't ask for a better or more professional person to help me with my needs. She didn't make me feel rushed and she took her time with me like I was the only person that existed. I can be very difficult at times and I probably tried her patients but she never showed it. Over the past few weeks my girlfriend and i have been talking about starting a tropical fish aquarium. So this past weekend we said what the heck. After shopping around we found that Creature Comforts had the best selection of fish that we wanted. So we picked out our tank, it didn't have a hood, but with the filter setup it didn't need one. So to start, the employee helping us said she really suggested we get a hood because the fish were going to jump out of the tank...i laughed very hard to myself we she said this! Next we picked out some painted glass fish and some neon tetras, i did my research for care and compatibility. She once again told me over and over they we couldn't just put them in the tank. I cant count how many times she told me this. She was talking to me like i was 3. Its one thing to make sure the people know how to care for the fish, its another to treat them like morons. I wish i got her name, we will be returning for more fish, a power outage lowered the tank temp. and we did lose a couple, but i will make sure to look out for this employee!!!!
But thanks to everyone else who was very friendly and helpful.

I just want to say thank you to the little girl who specializes in dog nutrition. My dogs skin and ear problems have cleared up! All Jazz did day and night was chew himself and his ears were always infected. I also took her advice and switched my cats diet and she has not had any urinary problems since. A great BIG thumbs up! I highly praise Creature Comforts for having such a smart cookie! They also have a great girl in the fish department who is GREAT with marine fish.

I was interested in purchasing a baby ferret this past summer and chose to get him from Creature Comforts. I called earlier in the day to see if they had any baby ferrets and sure enough they did. By the time I could get there I found out that they had closed early! I told them that I desperately wanted to get a baby ferret and the drive there wasn't something I could do again anytime soon. They were kind enough to let me in when they were closed. They helped me pick out my baby ferret, Ace, and all of the accessories I needed. They also gave me LOADS of great information towards caring for him. They were all very kind and helpful people. I go to creature comforts before any other store in the area!

My daughter and I were in Creature Comforts looking to add some smaller animals to our family of 1 Rabbit, 1 Dachshund, and 1 Ferret. My daughter wanted something cuddly.

Well, we discovered Degus. Before purchasing these darling creatures, we went back home to research them, never having heard of Degus before. After we felt knowledgeable enough to decide we would love to add them to our family, we went to Creature Comforts to purchase some.

We noticed one Degu had part of his tail missing and he was by himself. We noticed 2 other Degus in a cage just below him. We automatically wanted the Degu with the partially missing tail because my daughter and I didn't think anyone else would want him and we love animals in need.

When asked about the other 2 Degus, we were told that they were 2 males just like the Degu above, and if we wanted, all we would have to do is put all 3 side by side so they could get to know each other and they could become a unit. I asked repeatedly "Are you SURE that these are all males. I want NO babies." I asked this 3 times. All 3 times I was assured that they were all males.

I bought separate cages. 1 for Lucky and 1 for Cuddles and Buddy. You can tell by the names that we thought they were all 3 males because they told us they were.A week went by and they seemed to like one another. We mixed them together and all was fine until one morning a few months later when we heard this odd squeaking sound. When we looked in the cage, we had 17 newborn Degus. 7 from one MOTHER and 10 from the other MOTHER.I couldn't believe it. 3 times I was told they were all males. 3 times.

So I called the store and told them the situation. They expressed their sorrow and assured me that when they were weaned, they would buy them from us. I figured fair enough.

When the Degus were weaned, I called Creature Comforts and told them they were ready, and they refused to buy them from me. They told me they didn't have the room and to call them back in a month when they had room. 1 month later, I called again and again they refused.

I will never purchase another animal from this store again. They obviously know nothing about sexing their animals. And to add insult to injury, the BREEDER of these Degus worked in the store! I found this out after they refused to sell them for me.

And, more importantly, NEVER mix males from separate litters or females from separate litters with other Degus. They will fight to THE DEATH a Degu that isn't from their litter. We discovered that after further research.

So, I guess I'm happier that they were 2 females and 1 male. At least they didn't kill each other like they would have if they had been all males.

Stay away from this store when buying small animals...unless you don't care that you could have babies. They obviously know NOTHING about how to tell the difference between males and females.

I will stick with Petsmart on the Vestal Parkway for all of my animal needs. Not to mention they are cheaper!

Me and my husband had spent roughly $80 on 9 fish throughout the months and decided that our tank needed a couple of new additions. We went in and checked out the fish, talked to the employees about what additions we could add, after doing a spot of research before we went in. The employees recommended a loach, so we brought home 2 little clown loaches. That was 3 days ago. Since then the loaches have killed off out 2 pictus catfish, 2 kissing gourmais, 2 tetras, 1 tiger barb, and 1 angelfish. All we have left in the tank is 1 tiger barb and the loaches now. I called the store, because the majority of the fish were killed in less than 24 hours, and was told that I should have known better and done more research. I found this severely rude, considering all I was doing was calling and asking what I should do. I was informed that They would take the loaches back but I was on my own about the other fish. They gave me a really hard time about this whole ordeal, so now I am out not only the fish but I also have a 2 year old son with a broken heart because all the fishes he has been watching and counting for 8 months have gone to heaven.

I purchased a ELITE 799 air pump that I purchased approx: 5,6 months ago from this store. The air pump stopped working. I returned pump 7/24 but was given a very hard time from I beleive the owner who is very rude and disrespectful. Owner said no store takes back any merchandise without receipt. I informed Mr. Rude that I did not want my money back but just wanted another air pump that would work longer than 5,6 months. Mr. Rude accused me of damaging the pump myself. Well people just about everything I ever purchased from this store turned out to be over priced and nothing but garbage. SEE YA. U wont get another penny from me. P.S. Customer always RIGHT.

The owner of this store is completely unprofessional and disrespectful to customers. When asked about the pet food recall of Neutro pet foods that has resulted in the deaths of many pets he went BALLISTIC and started screaming that people shouldn't believe verbatim what they read on the internet. Funny, the news of the pet food recall made NATIONAL NEWS and was not just a rumor on the internet.

I will not shop in this establishment ever again and will tell everyone I know to avoid the unprofessional atmosphere!

I only shop for my birds at Creature Comforts. They are an exceptional store with excellent products and friendly helpful people. They also carry lots of bird supplies that the larger retailers (such as Pet Depot) don't have. Can't find it in the store? They are happy to order it for you and call you when it arrives.

I recently moved here from the state of Maine, and spent some time looking for a good store for the needs of my three dogs.
I've found the associates to be friendly and very well-versed. The store is large enough that I've only once not found exactly what I was looking for (Solid Gold Holistique for my geriatric fur kid), and even then the associate told me where I could get it. Yet the store is small enough that I can be in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Excellent customer service!
A big plus - they do not sell puppies or kittens. I will NEVER buy anything from any pet store that does.

I called the store last Saturday to make sure they had gerbils since I live about a 1/2 hour away from the store. When I got there there were no gerbils to be found. One girl there was like I thought the Degus were gerbils. But when I called they said they had assorted colors..so that person obviously was talking about hamsters. Disappointing since I liked this store the best...before.

They have somewhat expensive prices, but not as bad as other shops. They seem to have healthy animals, which is a major plus. I like it that they don't sell puppies here, so that means that they dont support puppy mills, like so many pet shops do. That is another plus in my book!!!!!

I have been going there for crickets for several years. ( I have an iguana) I have asked them several questions about my unique pet and they are very knowledgeable about it! They are not stingy with the crickets. The crickets are at a good deal and are in good health so I don't have to worry about diseases. Highly recommend.

I used to go here all the time, but the prices seem to be a bit to high for me. They do have a very large selection of supplies and animals. The staff seems to know what they are talking about half of the time. In a pinch they are a ok place to go to.

I purchase almost all of my pet supplies at Creature Comforts. The sales clerks are very helpful and knowledgeable. The store is open 7 days a week! There is plenty of parking. Great store!
