My dog was very ill, unfortunately with a terminal disease. Dr. Nippert carefully explained the labwork, xrays, ultrasound, etc., he thought necessary to make the correct diagnosis. He didn't talk down to us, but did explain in terms a lay person could understand. When the diagnosis of cancer was made, he gave us options for supportive treatment, referrals to specialists and counselling regarding euthanasia when the quality of life was no longer acceptable to us. When the time came, he was there for us, explained the procedure and gave us the time to cry for our best friend before we left. And I swear he and his staff were as sad as we were. Our new puppy went directly from the breeder to Dr. Nippert, where he was treated as a welcome addition to our family and theirs. Thank you Dr.Nippert & Staff!

Just this past saturday my 2 yr old yellow lab became ill, vomitting, not wanting to eat anything but grass. I took her to Dr.Nippert within 36 hours feeling that something just wasn't right. He did some bloodwork and told me in the office he felt it was an "upset tummy". 30 min later, I recieved a phone call that she had acute pancreatitis. Being an RN I was completly astonished. Not only at the diagnosis but that he wanted to do nothing but have her fast for 24 more hours and then re introduce water. No pain meds, no anti nausea, no antibiotics. The next day my husband and I had to rush her to the animal hospital where they rehydrated her, medicated her for both pain and nausea. We are happy to report that she is on the road to recovery. Not doing anything could have killed her!!! If I didn't have to I wouldn't give her any stars !!!

Dr. Nippert saved my best friend, Buddy. Buddy is a Boston Terrier that was raised by my girlfriend and I. He became ill, losing feeling in his back legs and was misdiagnosed as a spinal injury where we lived in Brooklyn, at Park Slope Animal Hospital. They refused to test for Lyme, which I suggested. They even said he may be paralyzed for life and should spend the night in the hospital. Also, x-rays were called for. This racked up to almost $1000, even after we declined his over-night stay. They said he may get better, or worse (being dead), or paralyzed for life.
I grew up in Dutchess county, where I knew Dr. Nippert had a good reputation. He immediately and correctly diagnosed Lyme. Also, he corrected the amount of pain medication Buddy was taking, which immediately brightened him up and he appeared much happier. He also more adequately taught us how to test for his sensation to come back. The best thing he did was assure us that Buddy would get better. And he did.

We also spent much less for the correct diagnosis! He is very experienced, well-educated, patient, and amiable. Dr. Nippert asked that we call him every three days to observe his rehabilitation.
We went to the prominent Vet in one of the richest areas in NYC when all the while there was a far better ( for much less than half the price) Vet right here at home in Dutchess County.

I have five dogs so it was important to find a good vet who was affordable and flexible. After trying about 5 vets in the area, we decided upon Billings Animal Hospital and have stayed with them for years. Dr Nippert has time and time again proved he not only cares for the pets, but isn't out to 'rip you off'. He always chooses the most natural approach for my pet's health issues, not insisting on giving expensive tests unless it is absolutely necessary. He spends a great deal of time with me to talk about my concerns, which I appreciate very much.

Billings Animal hospital is a wonderful place from the reasonable prices,to polite and friendly staff! I worked in a animal hospital for 8 years,I feel I know what to look for. Dr.Nippert's time he gives with educating the pet owner is wonderful,I have a dog who was nervous of strangers and he is very comfortable in this animal hospital. Also because your dog can't have a blanket to snuggle with is not cause for giving a bad review, its a dog not a child! And keeping spays over night is practicing very, very good medicine, without cutting corners to save money! You should praise him for that! Lossing a drill bit in your dogs leg,am sure was an accident and if it broke off in the bone, digging around could have caused your dog to loss his leg.

My dog was spayed at Billings Animal Hospital, and I'd never go back. I'd brought her little blanket to comfort her since the vet there still routinely keep spays overnight (not common practice among other local vets). They wouldn't let me leave the blanket or even an old shirt with my scent with her! They sent her home the next day without any pain medication, and when we got home my dog wouldn't eat or do anything other than huddle in a corner. I ended up having to take her to the emergency clinic, where they immediately gave her meds for pain (she was fine after that). Billings never even called the next day to see how she was, either. Best bet? Community Animal Hospital in Poughkeepsie or Pleasant Valley Animal Hospital. They're very sensitive to both animal and owner, and the vets are first- rate.

I would never do this if I did not think it was absolutely necessary, but I am negatively commenting on this establishment. I wouldn't even give it 1 star, but the system makes you choose that at least to enter your review. This hospital may be ok for routine vet care, but not when problems arise. When Dr. Nippert used to do orthopedic surgery he operated on our dog and lost a drillbit inside it's leg. He said it was harmless, however she ended up dying from cancer in her leg in that very spot a few years later. We will never be sure this was from the drillbit, but obviously we have to wonder. Also, they missed an 8 lb. tumor in our dog for about 6 months that a 2nd opinion vet found right away (this was emergency surgery). There was no excuse for this one! I found that the dr. does not handle the animals very much other than petting them on the head. This tells me he either doesn't care for them too much or he is afraid of them. It is not worth taking your chances - please go to Community Animal Hospital instead. They are the best in the area.
