I love Il Riccio; it is my favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan. Their pasta dishes are different and delicious (the bucatini is a great dish, and the ravioli in saffron sauce is aromatic and a nice change from the sauce norm). I have been here half a dozen times with various people, and we've never had a bad meal. People I have been with have also tried chicken dishes with success. The atmosphere is warm and cozy without being cramped, and it is quiet enough to hear people talk. The waiters are friendly, though the drinks are a bit expensive.

I was looking forward to my visit to Il Riccio after having read great reviews of the food. I planned to visit with a friend that I hadn't seen in 6 months. We arrived early--first people in the restaurant for the dinner hour. The staff fawned over us and made us feel quite welcome. That, however, quickly changed as the restaurant began to fill. We ordered wine, appetizers, dinner and dessert. We must have been eating too slowly, because we were encouraged to leave on 4 separate occasions. I looked around to see if there were people waiting for a seat at the door---only to see that there were 8 EMPTY tables! The manager came over and asked us if we would like to finish eating at the bar--we decided to immediately leave. As we were walking out, I quietly pointed out to my friend that there were 8 empty tables and I was unsure of why they were pushing us out, and the manager yelled "WE NEED TO HAVE GOOD TURNOVER. YOU HAVE BEEN HERE TOO LONG." The other patrons looked as horrified as we did after hearing this. I would never go back--I've never been treated so poorly at a restaurant.

I ate here for lunch Saturday afternoon. The place looks a bit small, but it actually has a "garden"-like area, which was really cute. I ordered the Linguine w/ White Clam Sauce & it was delicious. My cousin ordered the Penne alla Vodka &
