Here's a great story on bad business owners....
I receive a gift certificate worth $50.00. Gift cert clearly says "Grill Room, Hauppauge" on it. So I go to the "Grill Room" in Hauppauge to eat dinner.....
At the time of paying I present my gift cert and the waitress says to me it's no good as this cert id from 4 years ago... I had to laugh as I received this maybe 7 months ago as a gift...
So the owner comes over, very annoyed and says it is no good, he then throws the cert back to me in my face while I am sitting at the table. My family is appalled at this time over this. What kind of business owner starts yelling in his own restaurant and throws things at paying customers..
I own my own business and would never act that way...
Poor customer service skills! If the gift cert says the Grill Room, Hauppauge and it is within the 1year of purchase, proper business etiquette would constitute honoring that cert.
Do yourself a favor, eat at Marios, San Marco or even go to your local tavern. Do not step foot in Grill Room, Hauppauge, NY.
The worst class ever
Really disappointing! We were regulars at the original Grill Room and the owner aimed to please. We decided to try it again...the waitress knowingly brought out my entree (rack of lamb) wrong, despite the fact that she was aware that I had not ordered it that way. When it came out the second time around, it was lukewarm at best. My husband's entree was tasteless and not any better. Although the waitress was attentive and nice she did not cook the dinner. The owner never bothered to come over to apologize or inquire, which aggravated me even more, as he was checking in with all the "regulars!" However, they did take the price of the entree off the check. I did not care about the money, I just wanted to enjoy my dinner. I would never return and do not recommend it unless you hang at the bar...can't go wrong there!
New owners bring the grill room back to perfection... My meal was fantastic... I started of with the tuna tartar which was perfectly seasoned and tasted like the tuna was of the quality of the very best sushi restaurant... For my meal I had the Thai fish pot which was another score... This dish was delicious, it was slightly spicy with a great sweet thai flavor... I will be returning soon!!
I guest you can say i was a regular too. I work around the hauppauge industrial area so i always found myself in The Grill Room. Well NO MORE !! The new owners are absolutely horrible they rush you to your table and don't let you enjoy a drink at the bar and they just look at you when your eating like you are some kind of lab rat. They want you to eat and get you out of the restaurant as soon as possible. As for the food most dish's taste okay and the other ones taste like they come out of a freezer. You can tell the desserts and most dishes are store bought. Most of my friends "the other regulars" who i meet at The Grill Room are gone and swore up and down they would never come back. One of my friends actually got yelled out by the one of the owners when they asked for a different table. When did the rule "the customer is always right" ever change, if it did i missed the memo. So for everyone out their reading this "Hey new owners get the HELL out and bring back the old ones before you RUIN The Grill Room."
BY THE "CONCH" I have been going to the grill room for fourteen years, you might of called me one of the regulars. It was a great sexy fun place to meet friends and new friends, to laugh, talk, and even cry. The staff is wonderful and attentive and the ex owners were delightful. Now the new owners took over last year and the place will Never be the same. The food sucks, the chef looks like he rolled out of a dumpster, so god only knows about the food. The owners gork over your table all night long and annoy you, and heaven for bid they buy back a drink, they dont ever they're too cheap. I now have a broken right foot and one friday during happy hour i was told by one of the owners that i cant be blocking traffic with my scooter. I was so upset and hurt by this remark, which caused me to stay away for a few months. Friends invited me to join them for a drink yesterday, as i got out of my truck i was stopped and told that i was NO LONGER WELCOME THERE! My friends were shocked and appalled, they paid the check and we went down the road to a great place called Butterfields. A place that is handicap friendly! So all you handicap people remember, you must not go there we are not welcome! The new owners think we will ruin their IMAGE AN IMAGE THAT DIED, WHEN THE OLD OWNERS MOVED ON.
A friend and business associate just turned me on to this place a few weeks ago. I have returned 5 times. I just love love love it.
Beautiful, sexy atmosphere, artfully presented delicious food, cool hip attentive servers. not your parents kind of place, but great for dates and friends.
AHI TUNA ! ! !
Food tasted like a lean cuisine Meal out of the freezer... Service was very slow and our waitress had "NO Manners" she never once came over to see how things were or when the table next to us asked about a price fix menu, we asked her about it and she replied it didnt apply to us.. so i asked the table what they new about it and they acted like it was common knowlege... we later saw the waitdress go over and tell them not to talk to us about it. How nice of her.. I wouldnt go back to this place nor would i recomend it!! the only postive is the wine on Tuesday nights is 1/2 price

The food here was good. The prices were a little high, but the quality made up for it! The atmosphere is great! Too bad its in the middle of nowhere! They have outdoor seating, which makes it the perfect summer restaurant! The Chocolate Crepes and Penne Shrimp Special were delicious!
The waitress however, even though the restaurant is very small, forgot about us, numerous times! So I cannot say anything good about the service!
PROS: Good Food, Great Atmosphere
CONS: High Price, Bad (Middle of nowhere) Location, Poor Wait Service
We were told about this place from some friends that frequent the restaurant on a regular basis, so we finally had dinner there a couple of days ago and wow were we pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was a little dark and candle lit, my only slightly negative drawback. We started our evening at the busy bar and were attended almost instantly. We had a round of special drinks from the blackboard cocktails and not only were the drinks large but also delicious. We were then escorted to a table where the young waiter was also as attentive as he could be. I had the tuna satay appetizer and shared a warm pear salad with my wife. Both our of this world. Our mains were Chilean sea bass topped with lump crabmeat and the seafood paella respectivly. Both were delicious and looked wonderful on the plate, right out of a top chef episode. We will be back very soon and will bring our friends.
Pros: Wonderful food, very attentive waitstaff, romantic
Cons: Cannot think of any
Great food, great service, ran into past buddies there... This place is one for the books. Looking forever for a place like this, I finally find it on Citysearch and have an incredible time!!!

Pros: LOVE THIS PLACE!
I took my girlfriend here last night for dinner and it was extremely romantic! She said its her new favorite place! Owner came by to personally wish my girlfriend a Happy Bday! Best new place hands down!
Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service!
Cons: None Found
I am not a review person at all but felt the urge to write about the Grill Room. I had a great time there last night (maybe a little too much fun) but it was a really nice time and I highly reccommend to people looking to dine out at a nice place
Pros: Great food
Cons: None that i saw
I went here for dinner a week ago and a great time. I don't usually venture out into L.I. but this place was well worth it. Probably the best lobster ravioli I've ever had. Highly reccommended.
Pros: Great food & Drink
I have one word for the Grill Room.....Delicious! The service was wonderful and everything we ordered was great. I am planning to come back to this place again and again!
We had high hopes for this place based on reviews here and elsewhere, and could not have been more disappointed.
The location is unappealing (next to an "adult shop" in a strip mall in an industrial park) but I would not hold that against them.
We showed up around 6PM on a Saturday night and the maitre d' asked if we had reservations. We did not, but the place was maybe half full so we did not expect it to be a problem. Even though there were many available tables, he stuck us all the way in the back next to the bathrooms.
We sat there for a very long time before we were brought menus, water, or bread.
The tap water had a very funny taste - perhaps soap in the glass, but it tasted like banana peels or something similar. It was nasty.
We ordered shrimp cocktail and some of the shrimp were VERY poorly de-veined. It was kind of gross, I've never seen that before in a place like this.
The service was extraordinarily bad and by this point I was already itching to just get out of there. I ordered the pepper steak special and was hoping that this would at least be a decent meal. WRONG. It was the nastiest piece of beef I've ever been served. It was undercooked and full of tendons and other unidentifiable disgusting stringy things.
The lighting is so dark in this place that I couldn't even really tell how poor it was until I had tried to force down half of it. Had I not been dying to get out of there, I would have sent it back.
Oh, and the food is EXPENSIVE.
I don't have a single good thing to say about this place and I will never ever go back there. Not in a million years. I'd rather eat at the Blimpie a few doors down.
I have to assume that the other glowing reviews on this site are fraudulent. Nobody would cross the street for this place, much less drive an hour.
Stay far far away!
Pros: absolutely non
Cons: bad food, bad service, bad water, dark room
The first time I walked into the Grill Room, I thought to myself, "did I just pay a toll to get here" and it only got better from there. The service, the presentation is flawless. The owner makes you feel like your the only one there. I eat there for all my special occasions, I strongly recommend it. Keep up the good work.
Pros: Great food, Nice atmostphere, Great Service
At first glance, the Grill Room looks like it belongs in Manhattan, but without it, Long Islanders would have no place decent to eat! The food is delicious, the decor is flawless and the staff could not be more welcoming. It is a delight each time I eat there, which is very often!!!!
