After seeing 4 different Vets, my cat's condition was just getting worst. when I finally went to see Dr Siebert, he took his time to research all the current tests and history of my cat before giving me the option to treat her. He even called one of the other vet. My cat is all better now, thanks to Dr Siebert. He will be my cat's vet from now on.

I have found the staff at HOC to be very nice. I don't spend time waiting around to see the vet and my vet is very nice. I like that they call to see how I'm handling giving my cat his medication and how my cat is responding.

THE FEES ARE OUTRAGEOUS - they are money-gougers. The staff can be snotty but some are ok. They do not communicate important information very well.

I import my dog from Taiwan with all the vaccination record (bi-lingually) and visited them to get a vaccination for my 4 months old puppy. They told me they don't understand the language and wanted to give the first Rabies shot ($40.50) again in two days while I was asking for the third DA2PP shot. Regardless the nurse tried to write down the medicine my dog SHOULD take automatically (Because I'd rather apply Revolution on my dog's skin instead of letting a puppy to take any medicine to prevent flees or heart worm disease for allergy consideration) without asking the owner, me?hello?, if my dog needs it or not! I was almost screaming then she stopped. So the VET came in, trying to tell me that she doesn't understand the record and needs my dog to take the first Rabies shot in order to get an American sticker on the record so all the vets in the US could understand.

If that's the case, how can I import my dog when the US Custom has no problem with all the records I provided?

I made a compromise saying yes, I shall bring my dog back again in few days. Got my invoice, paid, and went home.

Then I looked over the invoice, found out that they pre-charge me for the Rabies shot (?), ask me to go back for booster shot in 3 weeks (? my dog took Bordetella Intra-nasal on that day already?)

So I talked to my friends about it, found out the Lincoln Square animal hospital charges $20 something for a vaccination, so I asked them to exam all records I have to see if there's any problem. They could perfectly understand the document and ask me not to over-vaccinated my dog!

It's important to trust your vet. However, I highly recommend all the pet owner to find as much information as you could. Not just for been fooled by that kind of vet but also for the benefit of your loved pet.

I recommended Heart of Chelsea to a friend, who checked the online reviews and told me she was hesitant to take her cat because of those reviews, so I'm writing my own.\n\nI have used Heart of Chelsea for about six or seven years, finding them after I had issues with another group of Vets. I wanted a vet that would test before automatically vaccinating my dog. Heart of Chelsea did and in fact my dog didn't need the shot. I still wonder if over vaccination causes some problems, especially in smaller breeds, so I was pleased to find vets that exercised some caution.\n\nBut more importantly, when my dog started having some problems, I took him in and Dr. Siebert quickly and accurately diagnosed Cushing's Disease. This was confirmed by a blood test. Then they suggested I take my dog to an ultrasound specialist to see if the disease was being caused by an adrenal or pituitary gland tumor. This was not a frivolous suggestion. It determined and improved treatment for my dog. Moreover, the specialist they referred me to was excellent.\n\nThe Heart of Chelsea vets have successfully treated my dog ever since, adjusting Cushing meds when needed and dealing with emergencies, including a chocolate episode and disk problems. \n\nMy favorite vet there is Dr. Crane, who will take the time to answer all questions fully, and who treats my dog like gold. But all the vets I've seen there have been really good. \n\nNow, they are expensive (thus 4 versus 5 stars) but I have to say they are no more expensive than the other vets in my area. I think the solution is probably pet insurance, not trashing the vets. Thank you, Heart of Chelsea. \n

We fully expected to drop >300 for a check up, blood panel, rabies and distemper vaccinations. But they wanted to do tons more - blood panels that other vets said they order only rarely as well as vaccinations which were not necessary. They insisted that giving our cat Tagamet was not as good as whatever snake oil they sell and also wanted to do an x-ray because she spit up a furball. Again, I don't mind spending the money but I shudder at the pain other animals go through to line this outfit's pockets.

As a first time pet owner I had no idea what my puppy needed. I got no explanations what vaccine she is getting or why all they said she needs them. I walked out with medication that was not needed at the time. Would not recommend, all about making money. I should have read the reviews before i went there.

If you want an honest review of this hospital, this is it.\n\nI am not going to complain about the price. We live in NYC so let's be real. NOTHING is cheap here.\n\nI am going to complain about the doctors. They are nice and friendly. But they view every appointment as an opportunity to make as much money as they can. As doctors, they should view each appointment as an opportunity to educate owners on how best to take care of their pets, give an accurate diagnosis without dollar signs in their eyes. They run unnecessary tests, which not only means racking up the bill, but now you are poking and prodding on MY pet for no real benefit. And it is absolutely ridiculous how trigger happy they are to give shots and medicine - again, for no real benefit.\n\nThose that gave comments on how nice the doctors are - wake up. The only reason why you step into this place is to help your pet, NOT to make friends and to feel like YOU are being treated well. It's a fact that conventional pet food and medication is making our pets sick across the country. Do your part and educate yourself on your pet's health and well being, so that you can make the best decisions for them with a doctor you can trust, and not just be lured to medicate or operate bc a greedy doctor said so. This hospital is making a killing off of uneducated and unsuspecting pet owners.\n\nToo many reviews have noted that the staff is responsible to fish out bad reviews and to respond with a fake 5-star review. I BELIEVE IT. It goes to show that their main interest is to keep their reputation sparkly by deception, and not by hiring doctors that are there to truly help animals. Shame, shame shame on you Heart of Chelsea!!!\n\nIf there is a glowing review right after this review, it means they are still up to their old tricks.\n

Cons: Doctors find any reason to run tests and dope up your pet.

From the minute I walked in to the hospital with my kitty Quincy, I was greeted by a smiling face and didn't even wait 5 minutes before somebody took me back to a room. The nurse that helped me was very gentle with my 16 year old boy and even offered him some treats to calm him down. Dr. Padro was just lovely and VERY patient with me. Since my senior kitty was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I had lots of questions and she answered every one and made me feel comfortable about giving him the medication. She even offered to call me the next week ""just to check in to see how things were going."" I wish MY doctor were as efficient as the people here.

Pros: Clean, friendly staff, open late

Cons: Not open Sundays

Yes, it's ""expensive,"" but still way cheaper than human health. You get what you pay for. They offer personalized service and know what they are doing. They talk on the phone as many times as it takes. They call to follow-up. They answer their calls. They are open late and on the weekends. Dr. Siebert is top notch, well trained, has a calming touch (no need to scruff my cats) and saved my cat's life when she had bladder stones. \n\nThey usually check titers before giving vaccines, so you don't get anything unnecessary. You can refuse the stool samples if you think it's unnecessary for your indoor animals, and it might be, but my cats eat NYC cockroaches so I'd like to ensure they don't have parasites.\n\nMy only critique: I have my own bias against homeopathic treatment and I could do without the personalized scrub tops. But they care for my babies who can't speak for themselves and offer nothing but unconditional love in return. I want staff and physicians that are the best.

Don't go. This place did constant ""guess work"" to try and diagnose my dog. It cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars, and weeks later, he is still suffering. I never had the same vet twice, always different, always guessing. Don't make the same mistake. Treat your dog well and do your research.

I can not begin to express the deepest regret I have for going to Heart Of Chelsea. They took my 9 week old puppy and without any consultation with me began vaccinating him for everything under the sun. Many of these Vaccinations have been proven to cause cancer in dogs and are attributed to many of the illnesses that ruin animals. They are in it for the money only. They want your cash, all of it and in truth they dont give a crp about your dog. I would NEVER refer someone there and I am sad that my poor dog may fall ill one day due to their work. I was overcharged on everything done there and the only thing they want is your money. They wanted him to be neutered when he is a show dog European Dobermann and when I said no they tried explaining to me that a dog having testicles was more prone to cancer. Yeah sure. That may work on these dog stupid individuals that walk through the door but people you need to do your homework and read up on whhat H.O.C doesnt want you know. DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING.

I usually do not feel compelled to write reviews for businesses. But I was overwhelmed to do so with the violation I felt at this place. I brought my kitten here that I adopted from AC&C in NYC. I came in for a FREE checkup that I was alotted. I was told to bring a stool sample. I now realize this is so they could make some money out of me while I was there. They sampled it, and found NOTHING wrong with it. Yet still perscribed me some medication for her. It was uneccessary, and in my opinion unhealthy to give me pet medicine she did not even need. They told me to give it to her ""just in case"" she had something. (Even though she has all her vaccinations and is an indoor cat) All in all, I ended up paying over $50 for a FREE checkup when there was nothing wrong with my pet! This place takes deceptive measures to take advantage of you and rob you of every penny they can.\r\n\r\nAlso, a side note. If you notice there are either glowing reviews of this place, or the miraculous coicendence of being insanely overcharged. Do not believe these ""amazing"" reviews. They are most likely writtien by employees themselves since they obviously monitor these reviews. \r\n\r\nHere is my message to this business' owners, stop spending so much time managing your public relations issues, and actually improve your service for the customers you manage to get inside your doors. Just a tip, it is not good business to violate the customers you actually do have. \r\n\r\nI keep receiving reminders in the mail to update my cats shots. I will NEVER give another penny to this disgraceful place. \r\n\r\n

If you want to feel as though you're on an infomercial or in a used car lot, HOCAH is the place for you. I took my cats here for exactly two visits before I decided to transfer them to another practice in another neighborhood and never looked back. \r\n\r\nI thought Dr. Gabrielle was excellent, and the front desk staff was lovely beyond all words. However, I found Dr. Siebert to be somewhat cold, and I didn't really feel comfortable talking to him about my cats' issues.\r\n\r\nAnd then there was the money. HOCAH will shake you down for every cent you have on you, and the ones you're earning next week too. It isn't just about preventative health; it's about this extra treatment and that preventative product and overcharging for basic services like vaccinations, and the next thing you know, you're walking out with a $300 bill for a routine visit for a healthy cat, and feeling as though you've been hustled. Vets in Manhattan are more expensive than elsewhere, but HOCAH is ridiculous. \r\n\r\nDespite what they say about their promotional practices being for the benefit of the pets, I didn't find this to be the case. When my girls had their rabies vaccinations, they gave them the Fort Worth vaccine. While I received certificates I did not get the tags that went with the vaccine. HOCAH also tried to tell me that the vaccine was good for only one year, and put that on the certificate...except that Fort Worth is actually good for THREE years, and SHOULDN'T be given to cats annually. Another vet was able to look up the information on the certificate and confirm this for me.\r\n\r\nPlease don't bring your pets here.

I recently got a puppy and was recommended to Heart of Chelsea by a couple dog owners. I have been frequenting their establishment now for a couple months and I have serious issues with the way they conduct business. When you go in for a vaccination, they also give your dog a $60 health exam. After my puppy's exam(s), the vet then tells me that I should bring my puppy in for her second series of shots next week. This is because they didn't give my pup the second series vaccination (which they told me they would do when I was there for my pup's last vaccination). I didn't really think too much about it until they did it to me again. What they are doing is telling customers to come in for a vaccination for their puppies and then telling them to come in a week later for the vaccination they originally came in for; this way, they can charge you for two [$60] health exams (not to mention that it is a waste of your time). They purposely spread your vaccinations out into as many trips as they can get you to make so they can charge you more for the same services. Based on the budgeting of my puppy's current health costs, it is going to cost the average Heart of Chelsea customer $600 to get up to their 3rd-series shots. This is roughly double what you'd pay at most animal clinics, and nearly triple what you'd pay if you went out of the region to have your pup inoculated. Think about it.

***THIS IS A NOTE TO HEART OF CHELSEA: I?m noticing that after every negative comment on here, you always respond back with ?our goal is to provide excellent care for both you and your pet? etc, etc?. Instead of spending all your time on this website fishing for bad reviews so you can have your last word on saying how great your establishment is, take the time to read these reviews as constructive critism on how to be a better animal hospital. Your job is to be the voice of our pets. Shame on you Heart Of Chelsea for being so disinterested in them! I suggest you take time to teach your staff that the animals and their owners come first, not the heavily educated doctors and their egotistical rantings. Book fewer appointments each day so you can give your FULL time and attention to each patient. THANK YOU!

We have been taking our doggy to Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital for 2 1/2 years and have been very very happy with the care. We have seen 3 different doctors and have been impressed with all of them. I have had to use their emergency pager system to contact a doctor after hours and have been very pleased with the rapid and compassionate response I've received from the doctors. I have only positive things to say about Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital!

I have had to use their emergency pager system to contact a doctor after hours and have been very pleased with the rapid and compassionate response I've received from the doctors. I have only positive things to say about Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital!

.

So I LOVED Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital. The staff was amazing! And I was lucky enough to get Dr. Cohen to take care of my cat. She is the BEST VET I have ever experienced in my life, and this is coming from someone whose had pets for 23 years. However, I was horrified to find out one day that Dr. Cohen was no longer there, and then absolutely enraged when they would not tell me why she was gone or where she relocated. I am appalled. This is my cat's doctor, who saved my animals life, and they refuse to give me any information on where she went. If anyone reads this and knows where Dr. Cohen is currently practicing, please post the information on this site. It would mean the world to me.

Having lived in several Countries over the years I have had to visit many veterinary clinics with my animals. The staff at Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital stand out above the rest.\r\nI took my kitten in as an emergency and from the moment I walked through the door the reception staff and technicians were all very friendly, caring and attentive.\r\nI was extremely fortunate to see Dr Cohen, who was actually leaving for the day, but stayed on to attend to my sick kitten. Dr Cohen made me feel at ease straight away, she was very thorough, very knowledgeable and very professional.\r\nIn New York alone I have taken my cats to four Vets, none of whom compare to the level of care given by Dr Cohen and the rest of the staff. I will only be seeing Dr Cohen from now on and highly recomend her to anyone.\r\n\r\nThank you again to everyone that helped and keep up the great work... \r\n\r\n

I am so thankful to the Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital, my dog Louis and I have been going to them for a year now and we are very happy. The staff is friendly and attentive to my dog's care. Every time we go in I feel completely comfortable with understanding the medical reasoning and prognoses/treatment plan. I trust the staff 100%. Dr. Laura Cohen is so nice and always goes the extra mile to make sure Louis is doing great! Louis is our families little joy and we know he is in great hands at the Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital! I recommend any loving pet owner to this wonderful veterinary establishment! I feel lucky to have found them!

First-rate for quality of service, cleanliness and making us feel welcome. Our puppy especially liked Dr. Lara Cohen, who was knowledgeable, kind and devoted.

You leave this vet feeling like you have just been robbed. It is very apparent that all they care about is making money. They make you do unnecessary tests and to say they over-charge would be a complete understatement. \r\n\r\nI went here because it was in my neighborhood but I will find a new vet because they only care about is making money. Other dog owners in the neighborhood have had similar experiences.

To start off, I first went to Heart of Chelsea based on the reviews offered here on CitySearch, which I have now realized must be completely false. 71 reviews for one vet in New York City? Common, most vets on CitySearch, even those superior to Heart of Chelsea, have an average of 3 or 4 reviews. Might I say they are also provided by more than one-time reviewers. In fact, my experience with Heart of Chelsea motivated me to comment here for the first time. \r\nHeart of Chelsea will do anything to siphon every penny out of your wallet to feed their deadbeat staff, whether it be by tacking on the mere glance of their staff, or by charging exorbitant prices for their half-hearted care. Don't expect to to leave without dropping a few hundreds on every visit and spending thousands total on any incident. As far as Heart of Chelsea being concerned about your pet, hmmm not so much. Their snotty, money-hungry staff will do anything to hold up their ""concerned"" facade, including their austere phone calls questioning the condition of your pet. Please, if you care about your pet, take him somewhere where your money is well spent. It was not difficult to find better care at a reasonable price here in Chelsea. I'll expect this to be drowned by another load of 30 more ""5-star reviews,"" presumably their staff's overnight homework assignment. \r\n\r\nSincerely,\r\nCityTruth

Cons: Exorbitant prices combined with a fake, money-hungry staff.

I have been to many vets (and many doctors, for that matter), but none compare to Dr. Cohen at Heart of Chelsea!! I got my puppy on the evening of June 25, 2008, and had scheduled a new puppy exam for the following day. I provided her with the medical records I was given for my pup, which showed that he had been de-wormed 4 times (the last being 2 days prior) and had already had all his initial vaccinations. He was becoming sickly by then, and Dr. Cohen diagnosed him with Giardia and told me to call if he wasn't getting better, especially because he's a little guy at only 3 lbs. Unfortunately, he didn't get better so I called and left a message at the hospital. Dr. Cohen called me back within 10 minutes and told me to bring him in the next day. After another pack of subcutaneous fluids and day of force-feeding, he still wasn't getting better. I texted back and forth with Dr. Cohen all night. From my description via text alone, she was able to diagnose him with Parvo and had him come in for the lab test first thing and even opened the hospital early. The test was very positive, and she immediately had me take him to Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists where he was put in 24-hour isolation. Because of Dr. Cohen's attention to detail, love for pets, and wonderful recommendation to FAVS, my puppy is now alive and very well! Upon investigation, I discovered the medical records supplied for my puppy at purchase were completely fabricated and that my pup had never had any vaccinations or de-worming. Most doctors and vets eliminate a disease/cause before having enough information, while Dr. Cohen explores all possibilities for illness despite having information that contradicts diagnosis (having had all vaccines +), which is exactly what you need--especially when time is working against you (as it often does when your pet is extremely ill)!

I just recently got my 8 week old puppy from a rescue center and when i got him, he was very sick and tired. I took him to heart of chelsea (following the other reviews on this site) and they cured him! The reception was extremely friendly and knowledgeable (i felt like they could have been doctors too from the phone conversation i had) and was able to get me appt that same day i called. The assistants were very friendly and the doctor herself was amazing. I took my puppy home that night and he was bouncing around healthy and happy as can be! They also went a step further, my baby pup had some behavior issues and i called them because i really didn't know where to go, and they provided me tips and even gave me 2 trainers numbers. I just had my first training session with my pup and i swear he's like a changed pup! he stopped barking and everything and he's even started to understand the concept of housetraining.

Hi -my name is Maxie, I am a 13 year old english bulldog who loves coming to the Heart of Chelsea Vet. The last few years I have developed a few problems, as any senior citizen might and I have been treated like royalty by the staff and doctors. Dr. Siebert does acupuncture on me weekly and it helps my arthritis a lot. I feel much better when I leave and friskier too. The entire staff makes me feel welcome and the atmosphere is always good. The reception desk folk are always friendly and helpful and one good thing that I did not find at my last vet, is that they always call and check in every few days to see if I am in tip top shape or if anything is wrong. Now, that's service! Well I have to give this place 5 stars and recommend it to all my dog and cat friends...and their moms and dads too. By the way, my dad, Pete agrees .

I had heard about Heart of Chelsea right when I moved to NY but feared it was going to be too expensive. I actually originally took my cats to the Downtown Vet Clinic but I didn't like the vibe there or the fact that it was sort of a one-person shop. When one of my cats scratched the other's cornea, I called Downtown Vet Clinic and they said they were closed (it was 5:10), so I called Heart of Chelsea. They were so sweet and supportive and my cat was seen right away. Downtown Vet Clinic had told me that both my cats' teeth needed cleaning and I went ahead and made the appointment there. But the morning of the appointment (which was for 9 am - I had to be somewhere by 10), when it was POURING rain, their gate was closed and they didn't answer the phone. My cat and I waited it out in the rain for about a half hour, then went home. Later, someone called and said they'd opened late that day because traffic was bad. But as soon as I took my cat to Heart of Chelsea, I knew I wanted them to clean my cats' teeth. I told them about my concerns about the cost and they went through the estimate and explained what was absolutely necessary to potentially cut down on the expense. I'm thrilled to have found them.\r\n

I moved to New York City from Washington, DC, and was worried about finding a vet that could compare to my vet in DC (Friendship Hospital for Animals). I looked through the reviewed hospitals on Citysearch and saw how highly recommended Heart of Chelsea came, so I made an appointment for my dog. They were very friendly and, as far as prices in New York City are concerned, fairly comparable. A few months after my initial visit, my dog had a strange growth on her leg and I took her in to see a vet immediately. It turned out to be a benign tumor, and Dr. Cohen and the rest of the staff treated my Annie as if she were their own. When it turned out to be incredibly expensive, they worked with me to get the price down and to work out a payment plan. I couldn't be happier with the service I received at Heart of Chelsea, and I will miss them as I no longer live in New York!

I can't say enough good things. Very clean, reasonable wait time, professional and friendly at the reception desk and on the phone. I have strongly recommended HOC to everyone who asks me where I take my dog for healthcare.

I took my two pomeranians to Heart of chelsea and the vets are very nice and kind to the animals who come there but the waiting area is very small and when I went there it was a very angry dog in the same waiting room. It made my dogs very uncomfortable to have to sit so close to other dogs (Not the place to go if your dog/cat is not use to other animals.)\r\nThe first visit goes very quick but they still charge u a very high fee.\r\nThe front desk is the worst the staff is very pushy trying to sell you very expensive side products that you can find in other stores for half the price! I don't like at all that the staff is trying their very best to just charge u for extra stuff and add on to the bill.\r\nBe very careful and watch because they will add a lot of different meds ,products etc that you don't need-and it will cost you dearly! .\r\nI will not go back to heart of chelsea again. \r\nMy new vet is just couple of streets up in chelsea animal hospital(NOT heart of chelsea) and its great! They have fair prices and very educated and caring staff!

Never before have I experienced such a wonderful experience with a vet as I have with Heart of Chelsea. The staff is warm, kind-hearted and extremely dedicated. They are extremely sensitive to their clients, especially when it matters most (such as in extreme circumstances like putting an animal down).\r\n\r\nI have had pets for over 25 years...dogs, cats, rabbits... and I can honestly say that as long as I have my animals, they will be seen by the doctors at Heart of Chelsea and no where else.

This vet was amazing. This is my first animal that I've actually had to take care of and I was terrified to take my ""child"" to the vet. Especially when you hear of all the horror stories of vets trying to ""take"" you. These guys were compasionate, very nice, understood the constraint of my wallet and always put my cat's first. They have even called several times to follow up and see how he was doing! They truely love animals here and aren't just out for money! HIGHLY Recommended!!!!!!!

I recently moved to NYC from FL with my Dachshund/Chihuahua mix Gus and needed to find a new vet. I consulted friends & scoured the internet, reading review after review hoping to find the best place to bring my four-legged friend. After reading a plethora of positive and rave reviews on Citysearch, I decided to go with Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital (HOCAH). When I called, I was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment within the next 10 days with Dr. Lara Cohen. Upon my 9am arrival at HOCAH, a cheery face from behind the front desk greeted me. The office was clean and professional. I was taken into the exam room and waited briefly for Dr. Cohen to arrive. Gus' exam was filled with routine questions from Dr. Cohen, as well as pleasant conversation about how my FL boy was enjoying NYC. Dr. Cohen was extremely professional and took a personal interest in Gus. It is evident that she is an animal lover and takes great care and pride in what she does. Every animal is unique and she gives that personal attention to each and every one of her patients. I was called the next day after my appointment to inform me that Gus' stool sample was clear and to thank me for coming into HOCAH. I highly recommend HOCAH to anyone who wants to give their pet the best veterinary care in the city. They lived up to all the rave reviews I read on this site and I feel lucky to have found such a great vet in the city. Gus and I can't wait to go back to see all our new friends at Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital!

I recently found Heart of Chelsea online and WOW! I cannot stop sharing my truly wonderful experience with everyone. I walked in with my 7 year old anxiety ridden, barking, growling dog 10lb. dog and everyone we encountered was so warm and accommodating. They made every effort to move us swiftly to a room where we would be comfortable. I did not feel like I was being pushed through our appointment and that they were genuinely interested in my Rambo. Dr. Cohen gave me unlimited time to share concerns about my dog's behavioral/anxiety issues and offered solutions. Since then Rambo has gone back for a teeth cleaning and after both visits Dr. Cohen personally called to follow up.\r\n\r\nI have never had such a positive experience at any doctor's office(human or animal)!!\r\n\r\nThanks to everyone at Heart of Chelsea for the kindness and love of animals!!

After a traumatizing and terrible experience over at Lexington Veterinary Group with Dr Steven Silvers, I went to the vet that my pet store (Parrots and Pups) recommended from the start, Heart of Chelsea located on 18th and 8th. From the minute you walk in, you can tell you are in a top notch place and in safe hands. The place is run to a tee- never have I called and the phone rang more than once before someone's cheery voice answered. The office is always full with friendly, professional staff and though I have had appointments with all the doctors, I must say that my favorite is Dr Lara Cohen. She is so fun, kind, experienced and the dogs are always thrilled to see her. She has a calmness, easy going way about her but she is on point with every detailed examination she gives. I have been to other vets offices that are cold and sterile, but Heart of Chelsea is really filled with love. Everytime I go in there, parents of the puppies and cats are talking to eachother, not just sitting there hands folded in lap waiting to be called. People even stop by with their pets as they go on their usual walks because it is just that kind of place, a neighborhood place. All the ladies behind the reception desk are wizards at how they remember all the animals names. So again- I can not emphasis how happy I am with Heart of Chelsea. They are on my speed dial on my phone and they are willing to answer any question at anytime. They are wonderful, but don't take my word for it, just stop by and you will see the place is filled with professional, happy pet owners who want the best for their animals. Go try it out for yourself and you will see. PS- If you forget Dr Cohen's name when you call to make the appoinment- just ask for the doctor with the amazing mermaid like long curly blond hair. She is the best!!!!

My dog is a complete lemon, and seemed to have several problems his first year. At one point we were considering leaving Heart of Chelsea, but then we met Dr. Cohen. Besides being very professional, trustworthy, she is very loyal and dedicated to the pets. She is very funny and makes going the vet somewhat entertaining. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants a more personable experience at the vet.

Two years ago I switched to Heart of Chelsea because my other vet kept trying to get me to spend a lot of money, yet got impatient when I had billing questions. ($4,000 for an MRI because my dog lightly knocked her head playing? Are you serious?) I switched to Heart of Chelsea after a breeder recommended them as the best she'd ever seen in New York. She was right. The Front Desk is ALWAYS friendly -- they are smart, they answer questions thoroughly and with a smile. They laugh with each other, showing they enjoy being there. One of the reasons they're so good is they schedule appointments well: the waiting room is never overcrowded, so the staff isn't overwhelmed. Consequently, they have time to pay attention to my pet and me. The facilities are very clean, costs are reasonable, and I can get an appointment easily with their convenient hours. When something is wrong, the vet offers lower priced options before immediately insisting on high-priced surgery. I'm never made to feel guilty about asking 'how much?' -- as if only bad, bad masters care about cost. One last thing: at Heart of Chelsea, even the helpers have class. At my old vet, the staff looked like THEY'D been rescued... from a Reform School!

I followed a wonderful vet here, Dr. Lara Cohen. She saved two of my cats lives, has specialty training, and is the most caring vet I have ever had. I felt the prices at Heart of Chelsea were extremely high from the get-go, but I paid them because I had complete faith in Dr. Cohen.\r\n\r\nShe is no longer here and neither am I. The prices are the highest I've ever paid for veterinary care and I sense that Heart of Chelsea is run first and foremost as a business vs. putting pets first. Dr. Cohen definitely put pets first which was maybe the issue here . . .

I only have positive things to say about the care my dog received at Heart of Chelsea. Dr. Nguyen is extremely caring, thorough with his examinations, and follows up after appointments. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The hours are convenient, and I have never had trouble getting an appointment. I highly recommend Heart of Chelsea for veterinary care.

I have recently started taking my two small dogs to Heart of Chelsea and we love it! The staff is always really friendly and informed. One of my dogs is a nightmare at the vet and they are always sweet to him, giving him treats and reassurance. I also love the fact that they are not quick to re-vaccinate, but check their blood-levels first. They really care about what is best for your pet, they don't have Hills Science diet in the waiting area like most vets! They recommend all natural diets and treats which is something I really appreciate. It's reassuring to find vets that are on the same page. Thanks Heart of Chelsea!

Pros: Great staff, wonderful vets, friendly service

Cons: small waiting room

Bookings are every 20 minutes, I arrived to find a jam packed waiting room (one client waiting with three huge dogs in the middle of a very small waiting area) all seats were taken. I was invited to sit outside on a bench in very hot weather. This is not a calm, healthy environment to bring a terrified pet. I was expecting professionalism, consideration, and respect when I entered. I walked into a chaotic, over-crowded mess. I canceled and left. I arrived a few minutes early and gave notice that I was leaving, more than The Heart of Chelsea staff offered me. Perhaps Heart Attack in Chelsea would be more fitting.\r\n\r\nObviously lots of money to be made is the life force running through their veins.

I am a licensed veterinary technician although I don't work at Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital and I have to vent that people frankly complain too much about cost of veterinary medicine. I have a college degree, a license and 10 years experience and most hospitals offer me a salary of $17,000-$18,000 per year. This is because people rarely have pet insurance so they have to absorb the cost of everything INCLUDING a nail trim. Do you realize that when a clinic performs a nail trim, it takes at least two technicians (2 salaries) along with the overhead, the receptionist salary who made your appointment, the chart that they had to open up and the purchase of the table, the nail trimmers and the quickstop just to give your pet that ""20 second nail trim"". Veterinarians are NOT rich by any means. Most hospitals use the same quality medicine you would find in a human hospital if not better and they have to hire additional staff to restrain your pet which is different than human medicine. In addition, vet school costs more than med school and it pays very poorly so you can rest assure that most vets do their job out of love NOT ""highway robbery"". You should maybe spend a little less at Bloomingdales and the hoyty-toyty Manhattan restaurant and be willing to spend a bit more on your pet's livelihood because most animal hospitals are pretty much a non-profit organization. With my college degree, license and 10 years experience, my salary affords me to live in a bad neighborhood with no health insurance, retirement or sick pay. So much for the ""highway robbery"" you were complaining about.

My pup has been going to Heart Of Chelsea ever since I got him 2 years ago. The staff is extremely sweet and caring and Dr. Gabriele is wonderful. Even though my dog is very timid of going to the vet, Dr. Gabriele is very nurturing to him. No real problems with Heart Of Chelsea other than they are real costly. $18 to trim my 5lb pup's nail & $37 for Heartgard medication where these things are significantly less elsewhere. I love Heat of Chelsea but I might have to start looking at other vet's.

Their friendly staff makes the vet visit very pleasant for both my pet and I. Their hours are convenient and they are always happy to accommodate my schedule. I highly recommend this hospital for busy people.

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Gabrielle is wonderful and compassionate. The reception staff and nurses are great, too. On the downside, there are too many people in the office. We had a call confirming an appointment for the next day while our dog was hospitalized in their facility. We were asked to give the same test to our pet several times, in spite of the extremely expensive cost. We did the test twice, both times it came back negative, but doctors continued to insist that the results were faulty. Our pet saw several doctors and several times. Several times, we received conflicting information. \r\nI hope Dr Gabrielle opens her own practice, because she is wonderful. Unfortunately, she is not always available. We will not be going bask to Heart of Chelsea.

I've been to two prior vets (costing me a lot of $$$) with my puppy, Lilly, and had yet to find one that had friendly (and competent) staff, a spotless facility and flexible appointment times (but ON TIME appointments)...so I kept taking my puppy (and my $$) elsewhere.\r\n\r\nHeart of Chelsea Animal Hospital, on the other hand, made me comfortable from the start. I called first to set up the appointment and the woman on the phone told me all about their facility, staff, and history. I knew before I took Lilly in that they ""know their stuff"" when it comes to small dogs -- thanks to that kind woman (not to mention their great website). Their facility is spotless and they took my appointment on time (I had previously waited over an hour at a neighboring facility). Just make your appointment and go! Your pup (or other animal) will thank you!

I was so impressed with my visit to Heart of Chelsea today with my kitty. The office is pristine (no weird vet/animal smell at all!), everyone that works there was incredibly friendly and the doctor's assistant and the doctor with both so gentle and kind with my scaredy cat. You do end up paying for such great service, I was pretty surprised by how a routine visit, including rabies booster and general stool/bloodwork quickly added up to $340. But the thing that blew me away was when they called me after I had left and told me they were adjusting my bill to make it slightly lower. I had the $30 coupon from citysearch for first time visitors, and when they rang me up it only took off $25, lovely Jen noticed and was making the change. So honest! I would recommend this place to anyone who doesn't mind paying for top notch care.

Cons: A bit pricey!

It was like love at first sight, Dr. G and Hero, my puppy. The only person that could make her still for all of the examination. The best part is that Dr. G moved back from San Francisco. I hate to go to doctors, but even my dog is willing to go to the vet!\r\nBTW, the office staff are really helpful and accomodating. I wish I could find such good care for me!

This place has great service with extremely caring and courteous staff. We couldn't imagine better care for our dog. But, it's incredibly expensive. For literally a 20 second nail clipping, it costs $19.20. If you don't have pet insurance, like us, be sure to ask for detailed and specific pricing before any services and have your platinum card ready.
