Breakfast in the Village

by Diana Q. | insider Insider | Rank: 12,993

I go to Manatus about once a month to meet friends for breakfast. It's always good -- not great, but fine. It's never particularly busy early morning, although apparently late at night it gets packed. Service is always fine and friendly. My main gripe is that the bathrooms never seem super clean.

Terrific deal for plenty of good food ...

by LewisRC40

I've noted a few negative reviews of this restaurant ... and have also noted that they were written by folks who had a one-time (and unfortunately) negative experience with Manatus. Conversely, I've been a patron here for many years and have never come away with negative thoughts about the dining experience. I usually have dinner here and usually bring three to seven friends with me. No one, as yet, has complained about their food, the service, or the ambience ... and the prices are highly competitive, particularly in comparison to other establishments nearby. Portions are always generous.
I love loin of pork and I've never been disappointed; but then, I've learned that it's always best to order anything from a menu and ask that it be cooked to my liking. I do NOT want to eat pork that leaves me looking around for a hmmer and nails so that I may use the meat to tap my shoes! Therefore, I specify that I wish to have the loin of pork cooked so that it is juicy. I also have learned that one should always specify other aspects of the meal, particularly the main course. Don't want the meat drowned in gravy? Ask for the gravy on the side. The wait staff here is always quite good and will try to make certain that your dining experience is to your liking. Manatus is a major bargain and is in a great neighborhood in The West Village. I'm going there tomorrow for brunch, as a matter of fact. Perhaps I'll see you there!

Pros: Food. Service. Price. Portion size.

A super bargain in West Village

by claudeintexas

We love this place and never miss it on our trips to NYC. We head for it as quickly as possible.

Gay friendly, excellent service, amiable and fast but not pushy. Very good food, particularly items like their open-faced steak sandwich. Huge salads. Their cole slaw delicious. Too much food stacked on a plate, and you have to eat it all because it is so tasty. Excellent desserts. The outdoor tables are superb for people-watching in the Village. Inside, we once were thrilled to see Glenn Close here enjoying a meal. Their brunch is a huge bargain...a big menu and a good bloody mary plus tasty coffee.

Pros: Have never had a bad meal, a bargain, too

Cons: Too much good food at too low a price

Decent Late Night Delivery, but Overpriced

by fosterdeux

Decent fare when everything else is closed, I have had no problem with delivery and I order here regularly, but it is considerably more expensive then the other diners inthe area....Burger fries and mozz sticks 25 dollars!

Pros: Decent delivery, open 24 hours

Cons: a bit overpriced.

My Favorite Place

by babylen24

Manatus Restaurant is absolutely my favorite restuarant in New York City. Not only do I eat there about two to three times a week but I also bring my family and friends everytime they visit me in New York. They join me for a delicious dinner as well as a peaceful brunch. The food is always fresh and tasty. I never hesitate to try a new dish because I always enjoyed every type of meal I order from there. Also I must say that the place is constantly busy but there is never a wait nor their service is slow. Their staff and the environment is very professional and helpful. So anytime you would like to treat yourself to a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner i would highly recommend going to Manatus. Keep in mind when the weather is beautiful you can sit outside on the patio to enjoy the food and the cosy enviornment.

Eat at your own risk

by debtune

I have eaten here many times, and always thought the food was fine, nothing extraordinary. I ate here last night with my boyfriend and another friend. The friend and I enjoyed our meals, though nothing special. My boyfriend ordered eggs benedict and they arrived lukewarm. He sent them back, the waiter told him they would make him a new order. The new order came and he ate only a small portion of it, he later told me it tasted strange. Coincidentally, my boyfriend has been violently ill all day. Draw your own conclusions.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - UNPROFESSIONAL

by rosenrosen12

Worst place ever. Multiple times I have ordered from there and paid via credit card over the phone, and when the delivery guy gets to my apartment he asks for me to pay for the food, and when I tell him I have already paid, he won't leave until he calls the place to confirm I have paid, which takes LITERALLY 10 minutes. Completely unprofessional and ridiculous. DO NOT EAT FROM THERE OR ORDER FROM THERE.

Perfect for Brunch!

by dianahatesboys

I had brunch here last weekend and it was FABULOUS! I ordered the supreme crabmeat omelet, which was excellent. The waistaff was incredibly helpful and gracious, and the outdoor seating was perfect for people watching. Overall, I had a superb experience! Highly recommended!

Great Seafood Paella

by cottoncandy90

The other night my girlfriend and I were shooping on Blecker street when we decided to get something to eat. We noticed the Manatus restaurant and decided to give it a world. Boy, were we ever pleased. The atmosphere was friendly, alive and warm. The staff was very attentive and pleasent. We both had the Seafood Paella and loved it. The seafood was fresh, and the rice was so soft and fluffy. It's definetly a nice place to eat and relax after shooping. So i recommend it after a day of shooping, It's the perfect place to sit, eat, drink and gossip with a friend.

Pros: Good bar, Quick seating, Quick service

Slow, but okay..

by vintagebarbie

I work very closeby to Manatus, and my coworkers eat here a lot. The first time I ordered from Manatus was over the phone, to be delivered to me just down the street. I ordered a veggie burger. Cheese costs extra, and I did not ask for cheese, but it came with cheese on it anyway. On both sides of the burger! So it was impossible to scrape off. Called back, another would be sent two hours and two phone calls later. Gave the place another chance and dined inside several weeks later. Slowest service ever. Waitor was nice, though. Don't go on your lunch break.

Pros: good diner menu, nice people

Cons: slow service, incompetence!

Cosy, relaxed and great value

by louiseuk

This is a great little place to eat with friends or for a relaxed evening with a date. The atmosphere is cosy, the service attentive but not intrusive and the menu choice is amazingly large but features pretty standard fare. Food portions are sizeable enough for most appetites, with prices which are terrific value. Definitely recommended!

Pros: Great Atmosphere, Good Service

Visiting from Alabama we just happened to wander in for dinner. The food was great, service was good, and the price was very reasonable. It had a nice ambiance also.

Greek/American treat

by auersmacher

Cozy diner in the heart of the village. I've tried Paul's Palace's burgers which I found too soggy and Corner bistro's which are too pricey!
Manatus serves a tasty, juicy chargrilled burger(the bacon/mushroom is the best!) with a load of fries and onion rings and also a greek salad(with their own dressing which is out of this world) for about 10 bucks, enough food for 2 to share. This is what are burger should be like. They also deliver until the early morning hours to soak up that brewski.
