This museum is a gem. I have to admit to my two biases. First, I like small museums. I once visited the Museum of Witch-hunt in Salem, MA, and was impressed. After that, I shed my snobbish disdain toward small museums. In fact, I prefer small and focused museums to their large and comprehensive counterparts. Sometime less is more, and small ones engage rather than overwhelm you.

Second, my identity as a Chinese American scholar, albeit not in the field, may cut both ways in my view of the museum. On the one hand, I am more interested in it than most Americans are. On the other, my knowledge on the subject may make me less impressed by the museum.

I was pleasantly surprised. Before I went, I realized that it was rather small. But it turned out to be well-organized and well-presented. The staff, especially the guide, was really helpful. Our group spent one hour there with the guide. If I had been there on my own, I could have easily spent two hours there. If you visit Chinatown, it is a good idea to visit. It is close to several subway stations, and it will give you a better perspective about the Chinatown, the Chinese, and America itself.

This museum is very interesting. It is about Chinese immigration into American culture. To give you a history of it, the museum was first built by artists who had recollected much historical material.

The museum of Chinese in the Americas is located in downtown Manhattan in the 2nd floor of a historical public school building.

Please visit!

I thought this was another very educational experience for myself and my children. It is a good way for you and them to learn about the chinese culture. The staff is very friendly and the displays are very nice. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to expand there knowledge of others. The price is good also. Great place to stop at on an afternoon out with the family.
