Lots of BAD points about this dive called Paradou in NYC!\n- They dont tell you there is a time limit of 1 hour on the unlimited champagne\n- The champagne is an unknown brand headache in a glass\n- The owner Vadim I think his name is, thinks he has hit a gold mine by getting everyone drunk and his sleazy jokes\n- The staff are scruffy and rude\n- There is only 1 flea infested toilet\n- The outside area is way too HOT nowhere to stand, literally a sauna\n- I bet most people who have given this a good review got wasted there!\n- This place is a big AVOID!!!\n- My food had a hair inside it, probably the moody old looking lady waitress\n- The staff hardly speak english\n- It is one big CON\n\nHave some class and decency and AVOID this flea pit of a restaurant!

This little french restaurant was recommended by a friend who often goes to their brunch. What can I say: WE LOVED IT. We came for dinner during bastille week, on a thursday. The restaurant was PACKED! they were offering an unheard of deal: $17.80 for three courses dinner. \nWe didn't take advantage of this deal and went for the regular menu! WOW. So delicious! we split their delicious plate of foie gras (their hostess pointed it to us as soon as we sat down that its a unique recipe of their chef and that it's made 5 different ways!! am I glad she did! I entered foie heaven and didn't want to get out. We also shared an entree and another appetizers (lobster appetizer which looked and tasted perfect) and duck entree. By the way, at the table next to us I saw a couple order a big prawns plate which looks and smelled so good - I saw them polished it super fast haha! \nI am sorry for the lengthy review but I am salivating just thinking about this place, and can't wait to go back.\n\nThey were so sweet, so accommodating, our server was a delight and very knowledgeable. when we were leaving, the hostess didn't forget to say goodbye and wished us a wonderful night (many places forget about you as soon as you get served a check and pay your tips), and we loved that special attention. \n\nWhat a great night!!!!

Never even got to eat here! Wasn't able to reach to make a reservation and when I arrived was treated rudely and then got rude response from management! See below\r\n\r\nEMAIL CHAIN\r\n\r\nThanks for your reply. As I stated was not offended my reservation was not in system simply that it was implied I did not call and was only offered inside seating as we were leaving and requested it. Once, on a chill March night, I came by Paradou. It was quite full, for a week-night. There was no hostess, and a waiter approached me, asking me politely where I wanted to land. He quickly gave me a tour of the restaurant, and I chose the front room which reminded me what it was like when I was back in France. (don't get me wrong, the garden is adorable, superbly romantic and cozy). I sat at the table by the wall with a long bench, overlooking the room. It was just me, and so I needed some entertainment, and this place is just great to people watch. \nThe wine list was fabulous. Not too big and just enough choices to get me curious. I got me a bottle of Pomerol, and it was a perfect and not too pricey bottle of excellent red. I started with steak tartar which was one of the best I've ever had (ask the waiter to mix that for you with all the accompanying spices right there at the table for you). The portion was very generous. The entricote that I ordered for my entree was perfectly prepared and came with the most delicious, super fantastic potato gratin - best I've ever had. I also had a side of haricot vert which was excellent. \nI am telling the whole world about it. This is going to be my new permanent spot for weekday dinner.\nThanks, Paradou.

I made a brunch reservation for myself and four friends for a birthday celebration. Four out of the five had arrived and were were not permitted to sit until the fifth had arrived. The hostess was quite rude. They made us stand and wait even though our table was right there waiting for us. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but the place is so tiny there was no room to stand. After about 3 minutes of standing our friend came and were were seated. \r\n\r\nThe waitress came over, gave us menus and told us that we could have unlimited champagne drinks for 2 hours. We ordered a few appetizers to start and placed our entree orders as well. The appetizers came quickly but were nothing special. After they cleared the appetizer plates we then waited over an hour for our entrees. We didn't have a problem waiting. After all we were enjoying our Mimosa's and conversation. The entrees came and were below par. Our dishes were cleared and now it was time for dessert. The birthday girl had gone to the ladies room so it was a prime time to tell the waitress it was her birthdaya nd to please put a candle in whatever dessert she orders. The waitress said well I need to take the order now. I said okay, well she should be back from the ladies room in a minute. The waitress said, I need to take the orders no. I said, ""why""? She said becasue you have 25 minutes left. I said, ""until what""? She said you only can stay for 2 hours. Initially she told us we could drink for two hours but never that we had two hours in total! We ordered dessert and it took 15 minutes. that left us with 10 minutes to eat our desserts and drink coffee. If it weren't for the great company I would have really been ticked off.

Ohhh, I love Paradou! \n\nAlways good food, good ambiance and great vibe. It is a little bit expensive, so I can only go on a special occasion, but still. Great cheese collection, amazing confitures, my favorite is a pineapple lavender, oh my!\n\nChampagne is always tasty, and since I am a vegetarian, the chef makes me a special, I am so lucky! Great grilled veggies, couscous, goat cheese and what not.\n\nThe deserts are awesome, had an apple crepe which was so delicious, and once a white fluffy soft meringue with white peaches...\n\nWell will go soon!\n\nN

Paradou and I share some important values:\n- High quality, authentic French fare\n- Seasonal menus\n- Low-to-no attitude from the staff\n- Casual environment with it's own flair (not a knock-off)\n- Fairly priced\n\nIf the weather is nice, make sure you ask for a table in the garden! I have been to big parties at Paradou that went down without a hitch; and I've been there on dates while big parties (~ 20 people) were on -- they do an amazing job of making everyone feel at home...

I've heard it said that it would be impossible to ever try every single one of the city's restaurants even if you ate out 4 meals a day; there are just too many. Now that's heavy competition.\n\nOne of the things I love most about New York is the originality that abounds. A restaurant must be creative if it wants to get people in the door. This was the case with my Supper outing a couple of days ago, and this is the case with a little French bistro called Paradou in the West Village. Paradou is super creative in that I have never even been there and I'm already hooked.\n\nIt all started with a Grub Street posting I came across. The owners of the establishment had been advertising that after 9 years of running their business, they were in need of some honest to goodness feedback from the people who really mattered, their customers. For those who email their comments in, a $20 coupon will come their way. \n\nSo I decided I had to check out the restaurant's website. Since I'm a sucker for contests, the first thing I noticed was ""Sign up for our newsletter and enter our weekly drawing to win a $100 gift certificate."" So of course I sign up. The next nice surprise was an email in my inbox thanking me for signing up and offering me a complimentary glass of wine. But that's not all! On the restaurant's Yelp page, it lists a ""Free Wine Mondays"" special - just mention ""Wall Street"" when making your dinner reservation for a Monday night and you get a free bottle of wine with your meal. At this rate I'm going to have a feast on the house! \n\nBut you know if it's good, I'll go back. And so will others. That's why they are smart cookies in my book. \n\nSo if you're looking for a new cute little French place to call your own, I'd definitely check it out.

We enjoyed a great brunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon.\n\nThe staff were absolutely lovely - totally friendly and happy to let us know where to visit and what to do on our trip.\n\nThe meat and cheese platter was divine - and the champagne cocktails didn't go down too badly either!\n\nAll in all - the perfect afternoon spent in a Provencale corner of Meatpacking!

This is not so much a review of the food/service at Paradou as an indictment of the circumstances of its very existence. Why anyone would EVER support a sadistic, right-wing spammer prick with their business is beyond me. There are plenty of dining options in New York that don't require patrons to do business with a demonstrable asshat.

Don't patronize this place, according to the New York Post and other sources, this owner abuses his staff to the extreme, and docks them hundreds of dollars for petty things such as not collecting enough email addresses from patrons.\n\nJust Google ""Evil New York Restaurant Owner"" for the whole story.

I went in, and didn't like the food and wanted to talk to the manager about my complaint. When he approached, he had a look of disgust. I told him what I thought, and how I was very disappointed to be paying this much for this food. He told me ""Go F@ck yourself, go somewhere else from now on!"" Me and everyone there that night couldn't believe this guy was going off like this. We paid, and left immediately.

No where in the description about the 'Best Brunch Deal in Town' does it say that Paradou will charge an additional 50% for booking a large party. We were looking forward to a nice celebratory brunch and then we find out that the brunch will not be $29 as advertised but $45. Not the end of the world or breaking the bank and normally this kind of miscommunication wouldn't warrant a poor review but the reservationist was rude and pretentious. A fair warning needed to be issued to those thinking of spending any money here.

Our Wedding was on May 22, a beautiful day in the Conservatory Gardens of Central Park. \r\n\r\nAfter the ceremony, our guests were taken to Paradou for the reception, and from beginning to end, it was a magical night! While always a special place with excellent food, the reception was amazing.\r\n\r\nWe arrived and were shown to the private garden, where our guests were greeted with Champagne cocktails & hors d'ouvres that melted in your mouth. The garden was lovely, the tables were decorated with candles and beautiful flower arrangements (florist recommended by Alex), which were arranged on the outside of the room, so everyone could mingle.\r\n\r\nThe servers who passed the hors d'ouvres, were friendly and professional; attentive, but without hovering or intruding on the festivities. When we took our seats, we were treated to a delectable menu that Chef Kfir prepared especially for us. Everything was delicious, expertly prepared, and served quickly and efficiently (not an easy task with so many people eating at once).\r\n\r\nThe wine that Alex selected for us was excellent, and flowed all night. The evening was magical and everyone has said it was the best reception they've ever attended.\r\n\r\nWe will return return to Paradou often, as will our guests. \r\n\r\nWe can't wait to sample Chef Kfir's Carte des Foie Gras!\r\n\r\nThanks again to all of the staff, and especially to Alex and Chef Kfir who worked so hard to make this evening so very special. \r\n\r\nBon Appetit!\r\n

I'll say this, I have counted on Paradou for a good menu and proper execution of its courses time and time again. Usually I do not have a problem and am rewarded with hearty dishes straight out of France. As documented perfectly by the commentator below me, Paradou provided substandard service, adequate-at-best food, and enflated prices for this year's valentine's day. The fact that the dining room was packed with two seater tables rather than the intermingling of larger tables made sense from a financial aspect. The restaurant was trying to maximize its couples seating. Fine. Here is a tip, get more servers. The servers were clearly overwhelmed which led to mistakes such as incorrect wine being brought to my table, appetizers being brought twice, and no water service. I really would chalk this all up to a very busy and likely abnormal evening for the restaurant if it wasnt for the fact that the prix fixe menu was substandard and overpriced. Tack on a n included 20% gratuity, and I began to understand what the business model was for this evening. Expend as little as possible, charge as much as possible. In a city with this many options, a night like Valentine's Day 2009, is precisely how you lose returning patrons. Good bye Paradou.

My boyfriend and I made advanced reservations for V-day which we later realized was strictly for a pre-fixe menu. We were packed like sardines in the garden area and paid over $200 for dinner for two. I asked the waiter if i could avoid the sauce on the fish which he said was not possible. He later said not to worry because I would like it...I explained I was lactose intolerant and merely trying to avoid so much dairy. The food was fine, but the pre-fixe way overpriced considering no wine was included. Wine turned out to be up to $14 per glass. They also took the liberty of adding gratuity to the bill (I understand this is standard for larger party, but this was for 2 people). We were not impressed and will not be back.

The food was good, the service was ok, but their attitude was the worst.\r\nI spend the New Year's Eve there along with 3 other friends.\r\nBefore we were leaving, one of my friends went to the rest room and we were waiting for her in front of the bar. \r\nOne of the owners was there, totally drunk, cursing people out. He ended up pushing me and telling me to get the f** out of there. \r\nIf you want to spend your money an than be humiliated, this is the one place i would highly recommend. \r\n

I found this place simply by searching citysearch for a French restaurant in an area of the city with the possibility of parking. The atmosphere was very nice, pretty empty when we arrived but busier later in the night. Wait staff was very friendly. Tried wild boar for the first time, very good. I would recommend this restaurant.

When we arrived at the restaurant we had to squeeze into an extremely cramped space. We were unable to move for the duration of the meal.We then had to wait an extremely long time to place our order, when our waiter eventually appeared he said that he had 'forgotten' us.One of the clearers then knocked over a glass of champagne which went all over my mother's clothes,my clothes and inside my handbag. There was no acknowledgement or apology or even the offer to replace the spilt drink. At this point I went to speak to the manager. The hostess advised me that I didn't need to do that as she would relay anything I had to say.She insisted on knowing who had spilt the drink,I explained to her that this wasn't really the issue and it was more that no one had bothered to apologise or replace the drink. She came over to the table with me and on prompting offered us a 'free' drink. As we had ordered unlimited champagne brunch this was a little redundant,my mother and friend opted for coffee. Our waiter delivered 2 cold cups of coffee. The hostess returned to tell us that our waiter was the best they had and that he had spoken to us to offer us complimentary drinks and dessert. We told her that he had not said a single word to us and she again told us he was the best waiter there and implied that it was us who were being dishonest. She then returned for a third time with a dessert for the 3 of us to share, told us that everything was fine as we had food and drink so we must be happy, told us our waiter had not spoken to us was 'he wanted to suprise us with drinks and dessert'.One dessert between 3,2 cold coffees and a glass of champagne that was already paid for were no suprise based on the poor level of service we had come to expect. The hostess brought us our check,no one bothered to ask if we wanted more coffee etc.We paid the check and left. The hostess then took it upon herself to follow us in the street and shout something that we did not hear as we were some yards away.

i love Paradou on a hot summer night, drinking white wine out in their lovely garden, eating a delicious crepe and salad. Wonderful atmosphere, terrific food.

This restaurant is so good! I ate there for an office holiday party, and even with a set menu i was blown away. The grilled shell steak with potato gratin & mesclun salad was unbelievable, and they had a great selection of dessert wines to go with their dessert. Great place, i totally recommend it.

A little bit of France in the meat packing district.
Here wine is one of the star offerings and you can sample more than 40 wines by ordering a quarter liter (two small glasses). I would stick to the very well prepared fish dishes here though as you will not be happy seeing a baby pig on your table if you are an animal lover. If you go there for dinner within a week before or after your birthday and get a free champagne cocktail for everyone at the table.

LOVED the Paradou . It has a really nice ambiance with really good food and the service was perfect as well. I cleared my fish dish and tried the salade perigourdine which were also delicious. Perfect date spot.\r\n\r\n

This looks like a charming, neighborhood find, however the back garden area, which has NO garden, and is in a tented room, turned out to be more 'cramped' than 'cozy'. \r\n\r\nOur group of 7 started the meal with a bottle of Chardonnay, which was brought a while later. Once we had finished that bottle and asked to order another 1 or 2 bottles, we were told they were completely out, and REFUSED to offer us a similar wine at the same value. Instead, the recommend we buy a bottle that was TRIPLE the price of our original bottle. \r\n\r\nThey were supposedly all out of Chardonnay, after demanding to talk to a manager 4 times, the ""manager"" (who we later found out was an inexperienced BARTENDER!) came out to speak with us. I have NEVER been treated so poorly, being told "" i don't owe you ANYTHING. i don't have to do ANYTHING for you"" what poor character and lack of professionalism. We should have been told ""1"" bottle was left when we placed our order.\r\n\r\nWe had already waited over 30 minutes for bread (which was never refilled) and had at least 4 different waiters. We refused our meals until we were offered a similar bottle of wine at the same price, or we would simply leave. Then, once we refused all of our meals, the ""manager/bartender"" MAGICALLY ""FOUND"" two bottles in their ""basement"". What a surprise? What a cheap ploy to try to get us to spend even MORE money there.\r\n\r\nWe ordered a 3 artisanal cheese appetizer, requesting 2 cow cheese & 1 goat cheese for my husband (as i'm ALLERGIC to goats milk) and was assured that was the case, well 2 of the cheeses WERE goat, which made me very sick later that evening, however the steak we ordered as an entree was good, the rest of the meal was lukewarm at best, obviously not freshly prepared.\r\n\r\nSave yourself a massive headache and head to Pastis or another local place. \r\n\r\nif you are looking for a restaurant with nice ambience, high quality food, professional service, DO NOT GO HERE. They should be ashamed of their staff & service.\r\n

I dont usually write reviews but when public safety is concerned, I feel compelled to say something. My friends and I ate here recently and we thought, based on past reviews, we were in for a good time. Now I am convinced most folks here probably had consumed a few beverages before writing these reviews because they are way off mark.\r\n\r\nAside from the rodent that ran across the dining area (I get it, its new york and the meatpacking district but still its gross), the experience at Paradou left a whole lot to be desired. I ordered the tuna steak which was like eating a wet hockey puck and management refused to redo the order claiming ""they are not obliged to make the food to our liking"". Our friends also could barely finish their entrees. The ""manager"" that came over - who I think was no more than a glorified bartender - was extremely rude and must have forgotten the customer first rule of restaurants. The only semi-decent item was the bread which took about 45 minutes to arrive at our table after several requests.\r\n\r\nWhen will New York adopt the California policy of putting Health Dept ratings in the front window? At least then when we see the C or D grade in the window, we will know what to expect. No soap in the men's room (i hope there was some in the kitchen), etc. Absolutely disgusting. Needless to say I or anyone I know will not be going back. Too many other restaurants in the area to have to settle for overpriced mediocrity.

I recently came to Paradou after months of hearing about the restaurant. I loved the restaurant from the moment I called to make reservations. The hostest was extremely sweet and helpful from the moment I called to the moment I came in. The staff wast very attentive, and knowledgeable of the food and the wine in the restaurant, and was excited about the food they recommended to you which makes you excited about it too. The food was amazing, absolutely scrumptious, after one meal you feel addicted where you have to go back there over and over again (which I will). The restaurant had this simple cozy feel where you felt that you were sitting in a small bistro in Europe not in a ultra popular Meat Packing district in New York. \r\n\r\nOverall the experience was absolutely a success and will definitely go back to Paradou over and over again. Strongly recommend.

My wife and I came here last night, and we had a wonderful time. Great little place, full of life and positive energy. The food was exceptional. Had a little chat with the chef who came out to say a few words to us, and my wife was delighted. Very good wine by recommendation of our waiter - very knowledgeable fellow. Terrific evening ended with delicious desserts, and magnificent espresso. We are both very happy with our experience and will absolutely come back and recommend the place to our friends.

The food was delicious and great customer service. In addition, the place is very cozy and has a very romantic atmosphere. It's a very nice place to go with your significant other for a candle-lit dinner or with a group of friends because of the comfortable setting and great environment.

Excellent food, couldn't wish for better service. Beautiful wine, super cozy place, waiters - very attentive service. I come here alot, and probably had most of the things on the menu no matter how often they change it, and even the specials. \r\n\r\nfavorites are the foie gras, the little crepes with black caviar (chic!!) with creme fraiche and chives; love the duck, the special soups that chef creates for the special menu on the wall (see the black board).\r\n\r\nget on their email list where the owners consistently informs customers about specials and upcoming events (last night they had a free bottle of wine with dinner with reservation only!!!) - what a great deal btw. I came in with friends and we just loved it.\r\n\r\nsuper delicious!!!

We made reservations to celebrate Bastille Day at Paradou. When we got there 15 minutes prior to our reservation, they said they had no record of it. I had just called earlier that day. When I tried to explain to the hostess, she got a major attitude with me and basically pushed me aside, telling me I would have to wait a long time for a table to open, saying, ""If you don't like it, leave."" Which is exactly what we did. If you want French food without the attitude, go across the street to Pastis and don't waste your time or money at Paradou.

I went with a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago for brunch. It was a bit crowded, but we had a rez and were seated nearly right away. We caught attitude by the person who turned out to be our waiter, but he quickly put on a professional face when presenting the menus. There was really nothing to order so we went for the burgers - which boasted to be the best and ended up tasting like meatloaf. It was gross. Worse, there was a b-day table at the back (in the garden area) and the group were so loud and so out of control, we could not wait to get out of there. We mentioned that a manager should have gone to the table to get the group under control but our suggestion fell on deaf and dumb ears and faces. The champaign was awful (we didn't expect otherwise for $20 but....) and we will not be returning. We think the restaurant is not well managed and attracts too low level a crowd becasue of price. What suffers is the quality of atmosphere and food.

We chose Paradou as the venue for my father's 90th birthday celebration. We were not an easy group to please with varied food needs, ideas of appropriateness, weather requirements and opinions on every possible topic and issue. The staff at Paradou aimed to please from our very first interaction. The food was outstanding both when we came for lunch to sample the menu and on the occasion of the celebration itself. I would highly recommend Paradou, not only for an informal meal, but for a private party. You could not find a more accomodating group to work with in making your special day a success.

Had a so so dinner at Paradou last night. After a little bit of research chose it because of the cuisine, reviews and because they have an outdoor patio. We had a reservation and were seated on time but when we arrived at the outdoor patio it lacked the real feeling of how nice it is to eat outside. The tables are packed so tightly together that people can barely get in or out of the area at all. And the food was ok, good dishes were steak tartare, mussels, cassoulet (la sirene was better though), bad were, scallops...

My husband and I were entertaining out-of-town guests and we took them to Paradou, we couldn't have had a better experience. Our waiter was terrific, he was knowledgeable and attentive, while not being intrusive. We began with the beef tartare, which was indeed delightful. The cassoulet, was the best we have ever had?even better than many we have tried in France. The cheese course was wonderful served with several different types of confiture. The chefs visit at our table made a truly extraordinary evening. Superior food and service will bring us back here time and time again!\r\n

We made a reservation on OpenTable for a Thursday night at Paradou. We then got a call at 3:30 the day of the reservation that they are ""cancelling"" the reservation because they booked a private party. They showed no willingness to help with the inconvenience or help book us anywhere else. Why take a reservation if you're not going to honor it??????

This was the second time i came to have dinner at this great west side location! I just had to make sure that the qulity was consistent, and it was! Paradou is a perfect combination of a great venue, great atmosphere, decor, welcoming staff and amazing food. i have yet to try a dish that did not stun me! I recommend everyone try it, and i would bet it would make your favorite list!

Had a business dinner at Paradou. It was recommended by a co-worker. This place is incredibly solid on all fronts. Very good food, a reasonable all French wine list, and most important for me, an attentive, knowledgeable but not intrusive waiters. The food was very good and the portions were definitely ample. They are really focused on winter dishes with a great cassoulet, a venison stew, and a berkshire pork osso bucco. The appetizers were some of the best foie gras i've ever had and a very generous portion of caviar. The waiters were always present, but as i said, not overbearing, and were able to answer any questions we had regarding food and wine. I, and the people i brought, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was a perfect setting for a business dinner, but would certainly also be great for any other ocassion.

Went to Paradou for their fantastic brunch and it was fantastic! Slightly off variations of your traditional brunch favorities, in an adorable rustice setting this place is great for brunch! Our red-headed waitress was rather rude when we asked for things like ketchup for the table and more than 1 carafe of coffee for a table of 10 with coffee mugs but, aside from that, it was a lovely brunch.
