being from queens, you don't really get to see a lot of comic book stores open past 7pm. i was out on a date last week and while waiting for my date, i passed by st. marks. i had heard about it but never got to frequent it before. i was surprised that there was such variety and selection for a place so small. the staff was extremely helpful. they should really advertise more or something that way people will get to know that they're open till
1 AM on the weekends (if you love comics, tell me that's not awesome) all in all, a great place to shop with plenty of things to do after your done getting your geek on.

Pros: hours of operation, staff, location

Cons: parking in area

the shelves aren't well managed and the back room (where they scope you like you're a criminal which I sort of understand but they need to be more discreet about it) is messily crammed ith really overpirced stuff. I once asked the owner (annoying) why an old price guide was selling for $50 or something ridiculous and he said "well, it's certainly of its time..." Hey EVERYTHING is "of its time", that doesn;t mean it's worth anything. They're also so zealous about you checking your bag that you'd think they'd be better about getting it back to you when you're ready to leave. They seem to employ only teenagers so they can pay them nothing and this is a plus and minus, depending on the situation. Overall, there's better.

One of the better comic book stores Saint Marks carries just about every genre there is from cutesy kid comics to japanese anime to triple XXX to hard to find comics. The staff is very into punk and know all about comics. They could probably recite comic history verbatim if asked. The store has been around for quite awhile.

This is a nice small comic store is the East Village. They are open late so no need to rush after work to get there. Its a fun place to shop around looking for comics. The store is a bit cramped soetimes but the staff is very helpful. The have alot of older and new comics if that is what you are looking for. They even sell some toys.

This place has all of the older goodies. If you're looking for a rare comic to add to your collection, I'd definitely visit this place. They have some newer selections as well. Beware, the store is extremely small and cramped, so you'll need to squeeze your way through the tiny aisles. Staff is also helpful.

St. Mark's Comics is a really cool comic book store. Located right in the heart of the East Village they have been supplying comics for over 20 years. The staff is funky, think lots of tatoos and spiky hair and are really helpful. They carry everything new and have lots of toys and an extensive assortment of graphic novels and books about comics. They are also open really late which is great as I'm frequently out at 10 or 11 pm and love it that I can buy comics at that late hour.

I have to admit I love St. Mark's Comics but I could understand why other comics collectors may not. They carry all of the new comics and have plenty of new and old graphic novels and toys. The store is a mess, a step or two above shambles but for me that is part of the charm. The back issues are buried under stacks of toys and outside of the new comics everything else is a little messy. That being said this is still a world class grade A operation with great really late hours.

PROS: Open very late, good selection
CONS: Messy

Saint Mark's has a good selection, but it's not worth the obnoxious staff. People are hired to work there because they fit the punk image of Saint Mark's Place, not because they know anything about comics, and they overprice their stuff.

Errr... cant much about this place. Its about as well lit as a dark alley and about as well spaced as one, ie. watch your elbows folks. Their selection was alright, nothing much to talk about. Not much in the way of collectibles. Browsing wouldnt be bad if their werent a secuirty camera on your face every where yo u stepped. Maybe its a Greenwich Village thing but I dont see this place as being all that good.
