To put it simply, if you have children older than the toddlers years, this is an improved version of the Chuck E Cheese design. Children in the over 6 crowd will feel they are too grown up for the talking mouse, yet these are many of the same games. Fold in very cool touch screen games on the hot themes like Fruit Ninja, and many of the carnival games that soak you dry at boardwalk spots down on the NJ shore, and you will have a happy kid! Dave and Busters has a restaurant component that blows C E.C out of the water! But hold on - that means your budget will take a big hit if you eat and play with a couple of kids.

Our dinner for four ( two were 7 year olds) plus a decent crop of gaming credits ran us $150 ! Dinner is like that at Applebee's and the like, and you'll find that dining in the gaming area instead of the separate outer dining room will mean that your kids will hardly want to sit still for a meal. The light and sound barrage really amps up their energy levels! We could have saved on food by hitting McDonalds first! You've probably heard about Dave and Busters appeal to adults - it is a nice young couples date destination, and to that end, their full bar area and drink menu rivals any of the pub scenes. But you have to wait until after the family hours to avoid the kids. This was far more overrun with children than I expected, but hey, it's part of a very large and popular mall and it was a weekend!

So, our meal of two adults and two kids, bloated by our two alcoholic drinks and totally unnecessary two appetizers came in at about 75 bucks. Then add on the tip and the gaming purchases ( tip the food, NOT the gaming fees!) and my Visa read $127! It takes about 50 bucks to show two 7 year olds a good time, and you will have to drag them away from that! Okay, including some modest participation by two parents! My own activity needed another $20 bucks, so that's why I rounded it out to $150. At first, I wanted to monitor what they chose to play, because their stint can literally last less than a minute - there's no practice time! In the beginning, I held the single play card to swipe, but every time I started them on a game they were both back screaming for more before I could get going on one myself! I got a second card with 20 bucks, but that went in minutes. If you give them their own card, they will disappear and that card will go up in smoke in no time! I had to give D&B credit - It's a very nice racket! They have attentive game technicians on hand because some games jam up, and I also noticed they had ample and well visible security standing about - I assume this was mainly because of the bar, that was fairly active even before the impending adult only hour. I liked that security presence because with the bar, it is a concern when one thinks about it - that a childless stranger - (okay I won't knock all strangers - Let's say any adult with bad intentions) - could very well be right in there, tying one on. With all the children around, and with all the noise, this could be an attractive hunting ground for a pedophile. Sorry to throw that in there, but in these days and times, it can't go ignored! It's good that there is someone there to notice if that adult dragging a kid out of there is not really parent that is broke and has had enough!

I would go back with the kids, but like a trip out to any of these venues, you have to wait until you can free up some money to burn, so it won't hurt so immediately to drop that kind of change on a whim. That's a lot of groceries, lunch money, or about two tanks of gas!

Second trip: We went back during a weekday afternoon, when they had a half day at school. I took my own advice and hit the McDonalds first - once they get in D&B they'll be too excited to eat anyway. I got them a card each for a total of $60 bucks and that kept them going for about an hour. You just have to let go and realize they are going to burn through the games as they revel in the freedom to choose - some crashed and burned within a minute. I followed them around, as most parents were, to collect and hold the redeemable tickets, and of course, I had to keep them separate! There's cups like they used to have at casinos for coins. The tickets from that much playing buy little more than candy. It's a lot of fun for them, but you have to have money to burn!

Dave & Buster is the place for a birthday bash. We ladies get together and go the restaurant to celebrate birthdays and just enjoy each other company, prior to major shopping at the mall. The waitstaff is great. The portiions are large. The price is not bad.

Suggest to others.

Dave & Busters at the Palisades Mall in New York State defies the imagination. For one thing, there are plenty of arcade games to keep a child busy for a good couple of hours. Did I say a couple of hours? I think any kid would move into this place.

They make it easy for kids to use any of the machines. No longer do you need to dump in quarters for game play. Instead power up a Dave & Busters game card and enjoy playing any game in the location to your hearts content. Besides arcade games there are also games of skill and amusement. These games offer tickets as winnings. Collect enough tickets and redeem them at the gift store. It's amazing how much you can accumulate in an hours time if all you ever do is play these types of games. Items range for the small, simple item to the outrageous, over-the-top, how the-heck-am-I-ever-going-to-get-that accessory.

Dave & Busters also includes a family restaurant instead the gaming area, and a sports bar outside the gaming area for those parents who wish to relax and wait for their child.

It's a really fun experience especially if you have a huge party. Dave & Busters will accommodate you if you wish to book the place for any party of sorts. Kids will enjoy their time at this place and youll have some peace of mind knowing that they will be entertained.

PROS: Great fun and entertainment
CONS: Can be a costly trip if you don't budget yourself

I went here for my 22nd BDAY. I didnt want to do the club thing but I just wanted to have fun with my friends and fun we did have. We enjoyed every bit of it. There is lots of food to enjoy and the games are soo much fun. You feel like a kid again. Go at night and you dont have to worry about young children because they card everyone at the front door. The staff is friendly and it's a great first date spot.
