The Authority of Sporting Goods with stores all over the nation. These people have been around for some time and they have spread like wild flower doing their best at dressing up Americans to getting fit. This store is a very large location on 6th Avenue. With so many shops in the area, this store is kept busy but the lines are never too long. Their prices are very competitive and the staff are okay. They sell all major sports brands and they have their own line as well. It's amazing how they cover all sports, any sport you can think of they sell gear and equipment for it. Every sport imaginable they got you covered. I mean even games for the lawn or if you plan to have a rec room. I like to take a look at their weekly ads to see what deals they may have that might benefit me. You can get it in the Sunday Paper or online.

There are seemingly hundreds of places in New York City you can go to pick up sporting equipment, but, in reality, there are really only two. Ask anyone and theyll probably tell you to check out either Paragon, or The Sports Authority. Most of the time, I prefer Sports Authority, and its not just because they have more sales--though its a great reason to, the sales are good! Their selection is a little smaller, but its a quality selection. The staff is really friendly, sometimes a little aloof, though once you get their attention theyre very helpful.\n\nAs a beginner Sports Authority is a great place to start, the staff was able to guide me to what I wanted without making me feel like I was an idiot. The store is large, so that kind of guidance is really helpful. Nice place, good prices, decent selection; not much more you can ask for from a shopping experience.

Well, the name pretty much says it all, but did you also know Sports Authority is now carrying yoga gear and backpacks and luggage? Sports Authority is so in-depth when it comes to team sports, they even carry dodge balls (you remember dodge ball, as a kid, right?). They have stuff for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts and all the at-home work-out machines (home gyms) you could imagine.\n\nWhats crazy too is that they have a whole slew of sporting equipment for infants I didnt know infants could play sports, but I guess its never too early to get little Johnny to start working on getting that sports scholarship.\n\nLacrosse, Soccer, Football, Cheerleading, Field Hockey, Gymnastics, etc this is a great place for High School kids involved in team sports. Theyve got stuff for indoor games too; billiards, darts, table tennis, etc. Add to that GPS electronics, backyard games, pool and beach equipment, ski/snow tubes, and stuff for BMX biking, mega-sized trampolines, \nall kinds of in-line skates and traditional, old-school roller skates.\n \nThey also have a fan shop, ranging from everything from NFL to NBA to NHL and NASCAR gear.\n

I run, lift weights and do a bit of kick boxing, and I usually head to Modells or footlocker to get my sneaker-on, but my nephew wanted a pair of Jordan cargo shorts, so I ended up in the Sports Authority and well I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. They had tons of cool stuff, not just the sneakers and shorts, I was looking for, but also camping gear, workout machines, and even some sweet golf clubs for my dad on fathers day. \n\nI left spending more than I indented but I was really happy with my new sneakers and workout gloves, and I know my nephews going to love his shorts. But while I spent more their prices were on target and the staff was really helpful, even letting me try some of the workout machines, and golf clubs on for size. That said it can get a little crowded, so be prepared. \n

Since I was a little kid, the Sports Authority has been a place that evokes excitement in me. In my tiny eight year old brain, I always put McDonalds play-place adjacent to the Sports Authority. From camping tents to scuba gear to baseball bats to inflatable pool floats, the Sports Authority literally has anything and everything related to sports, entertainment, and the outdoors. As an adult, the excitement does not wane. You can buy an exercise bike in the same place as a new sports bra and running shorts. Looking for a bocce ball set? An elliptical machine? Golf clubs? No problem. Even their online store is welcoming; everything is neatly organized into categories and sub-categories, which come in handy to those of us who are OCD. I would say, however, that it is a destination for the average sports enthusiast. If youre looking for the newest, hottest styles of sneakers, the Sports Authority should probably not be your first destination. I would also say that your shopping experience will vary by location, which for me is a negative attribute. When I walk into a Gap, or a Starbucks, or a Lululemon, the experience is generally the same no matter what. I dont feel that way about the Sports Authority. Sometimes though, you just gotta roll the dice.

I had a memorable experience at Sports Authority... I wasn't going in to browse around and shop... I was on a lunch-break mission and that was all. However, I did notice that a lot of the other people that did not understand what kind of running gear they should buy were being helped by staff... and they were actually giving pretty good advice about cold weather running gear... \n\nI stopped in here to get a swimsuit while on my way to the new 24 hour fitness center which is only a couple of blocks north from here. I found the swimsuit, and the employees were helpful. The sign said 20 % off but then it wasn't reflected in the price at the cashier. The swimsuit employee went down there and confirmed the sign said it was 20% off and they said they would credit my card and it finally showed up. The charge and the credit were run at the same time and the charge shows up on my statement and the credit.\n\nThe changing area was well organized and clean and the regular displays are well-stocked and easily distinguished. I feel like their sales signs are sometimes difficult to understand, namely sometimes the sale is reflected on the tag, but often times it's not. I got a $10 gift card for spending over $50, so that was a nice surprise.\n

I first would like to apologize to Modells Sporting Goods. I cheated on and theres nothing I can do change that, and Ive also decided to leave for the other store so just let me go (lol). Sports Authority one of the few place that I know where you can walk in and find equipment among other necessities for every single sport including the individual activities. As much as I love watching basketball I would rather go diving in my spare time. Furthermore, I dont want to break my pockets paying for the charges that come with shopping at a specialty store. Though I will admit some of the items can be a bit pricey, at least everything you need is at your finger tips. If I want camping gear I dont have to worry about roaming through half an aisle reserved for camping essentials and trying to figure out where I can buy everything else I need after buying some lighter fuel and only one brand of tent. I also dont have to wait at the side of a counter while the sales associate is on the phone with the other stores checking for an item that should have been made available by at least three different brands. As a customer I like having choices and I choose Sports Authority for all my sporting needs.

Sports Authority has a large selection, and its all affordable. The problem is that its kind of too affordable. If you want really high quality top of the line gear, you should go to Paragon

I originally went in looking for roller blades. There were one or two sales people around to help, but not only was I not approached, I was totally ignored in favor of them chatting with each other. I gave up on the roller blades and went downstairs to look for workout clothes, the sales people were better there, and there's a decently priced collection of clothes, but overall, this particular store doesn't have great customer service.
