I enjoyed my experience at Yuca Bar, but it's definitely not for everyone. This place is LOUD, emphasis on LOUD. You pretty much have to scream at your dinner guests, which is fine I suppose if you're there for drinking and having a few snacks, but less ideal for dinner. During dinner its also very dark, making the menu nearly impossible to read. (This is where a cellphone light comes in handy). The drinks are okay; the signature Yuca Sunrise was met with some confusion/dislike, while I thought my White Grape Martini was a little too strong, but hey, when do you ever get to complain about too much alcohol in a drink? Apps were okay; surprisingly, crowd pleasers like coconut shrimp were so-so while the seafood salad was amazingly fresh, light and luscious. I had the salmon entree, which was kind of boring and not very flavorful. My friend's mahi mahi dish was a little better thanks to a creamy, spicy sauce, and our fellow diners' flank steak and pork shoulder dishes looked appropriately huge, meaty and juicy. None of us could finish our entrees, so while they were getting wrapped up we had some dessert coffees. Mine with liquor 43 was ok, but some of the others, such as one with brandy, was downright undrinkable and had to be sent back. Overall it was an okay meal, not horrible but not particularly memorable either.

I came here once 3 years ago and was impressed. My boyfriend wanted to check this place out so we came back again. My expectations are amazing Pan-Latin grill and delicious tapas. They undoubtedly met mine.

We started with crispy calamari. It came with two dippings, one is red and spicy and the other is greenish mayo. It is truly crispy and the dippings were amazing. We got the Carnitas for two (grilled sausages, chorizo, short beef ribs, skirt steak and chicken). It comes with pickles, bean and rice, and crispy yuca fries. We couldn't even finish half! The short beef ribs was almost falling apart in my mouth and the skirt steak was delicious too.

We had a good time and really enjoy the atmosphere. They also have happy hour from 1 to 8PM on weeknights. Definitely a good spot to sit on mojitos!

My friend recommended yuca because of their cheap happy hour deals and great tapas. the food was FINE, the waitress didn't come to take our drink order for 20 minutes. Eventually I stood up and asked a bus boy to get her. Happy hour was only for another hour and we wanted to order drinks before they doubled in price.

I ordered a side of sweet plaintains to take home and they were brought to the table after we signed the check. Inadvertently, I stood up and began to walk away from the table, got to the door, realized I left my plantains on the table, turned around and they were gone. When I asked where they went the busboy shuffled through the garbage and offered me my order covered in trash. I turned to the hostess and said, this is sort of f-ed up at which point a manager came out and screamed at me for acting inappropriately and said, "the hostess offered to replace your order" i replied...."no she didn't" and he said, "oh well, you;re a loser for cursing."

A. it's the village....who doesn't curse
B. it's a SH-T economy (pardon my french yuca) dont throw your patrons food out and offer them scraps from the trash.

will never return.

I went on a Tuesday night around 7. The place was PACKED. The mojitos (any flavor) were $6. And once we were seated we were still able to get the bar prices. We had to settle at the bar and couldn't transfer our check, which isn't that big of a deal but still a little annoying. We were seated at our table for 15 minutes and the manager asked my friend and I if we wouldn't mind moving to a new table because he needed our table for another party. We moved, no problem. But most of the time when you do that, restaurants will give you a drink on the house or a free desert but they didn't do that. Most of the dinner entrees were $17+. Kind of expensive. And when I saw the amount of food on peoples plates I knew for sure that they weren't getting enough food for the amount they were paying. It's in a good location and the food is good. But there are probably other places that are just as good where you can get more for your buck$. If it would allow me, I would give this place 3.5 stars, not 4.

My friend and I went to catch a drink at Yuca Bar on a weeknight this week. According to the official website, the places closes at 1 am everyday. We ordered a drink at 11:30 pm that night, took our drinks from the bar, and sat down to catch up on the nearby stools in the corner. At 12:05 am, the bartender, much to our shock, yells out of nowhere at my friend and I, "You ladies to have 3 minutes to finish your drink and get out." His stunned fellow staff started laughing nervously, thinking he was joking, but he only proceeded to get angrier and nastier at us, exclaiming "I'm trying to get home tonight and I can't wait here another 2 hours for you to finish your drink!" "This is New York. You should've realized we were closing down. Don't you see there's no one else in the restaurant?" etc etc. Our glasses were still almost full. We pointed out the two other patrons still remaining at the back of the restaurant, who hurriedly paid their bill and left. We also pointed out that chugging a tumbler of alcohol was hardly appropriate and that we needed a little more time to finish the drinks -- not two hours, just a few minutes more than three. He responded with a volley of sarcastic comments and more rudeness. We left as soon as we could, still reeling at how, in all these years in New York City, never have we, or anyone we know, encountered a bartender so foul-mouthed as this one. On our way out, we looked for any posted timings, thinking may be we had read the website wrong, but there were none. If the owners are really not interested in running a restaurant professionally, save yourselves some trouble and just say so. There are a thousand places within walking distance that would be glad to have our business, and that still treat people with some respect and dignity.

So tasty!!! The pinchos variados appetizer was amazing...you get three different kinds of meat, a mini flame to heat them up to your liking, and numerous dipping sauces. The salmon ceviche was delish with just the right amount of lime juice and cilantro. The guac was amazing as well. I'd definitely recommend going with a group and sharing a bunch of tapas rather than ordering an entree.

We went at 9pm on a Friday night (group of 5) and definitely expected to wait. We were told 20 minutes, which ended up being more like an hour, which was annoying. I wasn't totally impressed by my drinks...the Yuca Sunrise (margarita and sangria) was OK. I definitely didn't like my Yuca Kiss. Drink prices are definitely reasonable ($10).

I've been back here time and time again, always taking new groups of friends and everyone always has a great time. If you can get out of work early (which I can't), that weekday happy hour prices make it all the better. Mmmmm coconut mojitos

6 hour happy hours!!! I am not joking 2-8 on weekdays and on the later side on weekends, 5-8. Good place to start a night out especially in the summer because you can sit outside. Love the sangria.

So my boyfriend and I decided to go here for dinner last night and thank God we did. The service was just right. The decor of the place was very sheek yet comfortable. And the food? Absolutely delicious!!! My boyfriend had the roast pork and I had the chicken which was cooked to perfection. I'd recommend this to my closest friends and family. Fresh food made for a happy rest of the evening...

The Yuca Bar offers a unique variety of spanish food without being too exotic or ordinary. My food was ok, perhaps I didn't choose the best entree but the drinks were pretty good. Try the Yuca Sunrise, it's a mixture of a margarita and sangria drink. The absolute best attribute this place has to offer is the waitstaff - EXCELLENT! I was so pleased with our waitress; it was a great relief to be given a break from the snob-fest characteristic of so many bar/restaurants. All and all you can't go wrong.

I'm a bit glad I ran into this place by mistake. The restaurant itself has a very nice interior and the food itself is very decent especially for the price. The service was not as good as it may be in other restaurants around the area but overall I'd rate the service as a 6 out of 10.

The food itself is very filling and the prices that match each item is reasonable. Overall, I'd suggest trying this restaurant out at least once.

Last night, we (family) made our way what would of been our second time at the Yuca Bar. Since, we experienced having a good time there the last time, we figure yes this is were we want to hang out tonight. Well, we ask for a table for 3 and she kindly wrote down her name and told us 20 mins. to be seated. Thoses were the longest 20 mins., we've ever experienced. She looked over acknowledging us a few times, ask once if we were waiting for a table for three, looked over again and sat about 12 Couples who just entered still not calling our name and now we witness there were quite a few possiblies where we can be seated (one located right in front of us). She jumped around talking to staff and looked over to us again with a weird look on her face and ask if were waiting for a table of 3, bring over the list right besides me and I ask me what was the name. All the names on the list were crossed out, and once again I kindly mentioned to her, we were waiting for quite a while, she rudely shook her head in a snotty, arrogant matter as if we were her problem. Amazing, we order Mojitos, waited patienty and witness a massive amount of seating of people that were not even on the list, thebest part is that her behvavior surely showed us she knew what she was doing. She grab some menus and took her walk to the table to seat us, we didn't follow and decided to leave, thinking thanks to her "This is not a place we what to cherish our time". I 've been to the Yuca Bar several times with different groups and for my birthday, never had a problem unitil now (thought some waitness were kind, food was fair, drinks were good) . Thanks that weird Hostess, that one L.E.S. spot we will never will return.

My experience both times i've been has been a good one. I've been there during the weekend, and yes it has been very crowded, but it's something i'm not uncomfortable with. The ambiance is very lively, loud, and i've had a good experience with the waiters. They were attentive and efficient with their service. I love their veggie burger( i'm not even a vegetarian), very flavorful--tasty. Their sangrias are decent, they can be strong which is a good thing!

How did this place get so many stars? It must be the owners posting reviews because the food was mediocre at best, and the service was horrible. I'm a fan of spanish/latin/tapas cuisine so have been to many places around the city, and this place was average at best and not worth the price. Let's just say this place seems to belong in times square, not east village (unoriginal, hurried and commercialized).

me and two friends planned on going to 7A across the street but decided on yuca bar based on the atmosphere, the menu and ambiance. it was packed, good loud friendly crowd, nice nyc night. the maitre-d was friendly, helpful and kind, as was the bartender. it took a bit longer to get seated, but the matire-d made sure we were constantly updated on the situation which we appreciated.

however, our waitress was kinda pushy and impatient abt ordering food. again we didnt mind; it was packed and busy friday night. we asked her for her recommendations, which she gave, and we accepted. we were annoyed tho, because we had to ask multiple people multiple times for drinks. again we didnt mind - we were having a good time. when we were trying to get our waitress' attention for the bill, she totally ignored us while she was busy flirting with two guys at the table next to us. when we provided our credit cards for our bill, she gave us some attitude abt the fact that we asked her to split the sum between three cards. granted, we understand how that can be annoying, but shouldnt be a biggie, esp in nyc.

the biggest shock of the night was on our way out, our waitress flagged us down and harassed us abt our tip amount. we were shocked and disgusted because we'd never been verbally and physically harrarssed abt our bill amount, especially since we tipped 15%. she spoke to us as if we were retarded, and said something abt how she had to tip her barbacks and bartender (even tho we had already tipped the bartender separtely).

ive lived in nyc for over 25 years, and i have NEVER been verbally harassed by a waitress before, especially when we left a 15% tip. unbelieveable. especially after reading the review below of the person who got ripped off on his credit card bill, seems like this place has some issues it needs to deal with.

I've been here a lot, and have never had a bad meal. The food's great and the service is very good (but not pushy at all). Sangria is usually good, but occassionally its a bit weak. Prices are good as well. You could make a meal out of the tapas. I only wished they changed up the menu a little bit more often.

The food is exellent also the drinks. but the bartenders managers and waiters provide the worst service ever, first of all they have happy hour from5pm to 8pm 6$ a drink i ordered my last round of drinks around 7:45 the guy told me hold on and he turned his back on me for 10 minutes and he was not doing anything around 7:58 started making my drinks and supposely i had to pay 24$ he told me 37$ i asked him why and he said we stop charging happy hours drinks 5 minutes before 8. whatever i paid i didnt wanna deal with it. i spoke to the manager about it and he had ofered me a round of drinks for free. while we were eating the manager came to me and told me i cant give you the drinks for free what i can do is charge u for the price of happy hour drinks i we were so disapointed that i told him that i didnt want them anymore. by the time we finished eating the check came out to 75$ i gave them 13$ tip wich came out to a total of 88$ i paid with my credit card. Now i just checked my credit card statement and i see yuca Bar has charged me 113$ i dont know what type of business they runing but that is so illegal i already contacted my bank and will see what happens. dont get me wrong the food is great but the service is so shady and lots of friends told me the same its up to u people if u wanna go there and get rip off.

Was owed a meal from a friend and she ended up taking me to the Yuca Bar and wow was the place great. The drinks are great, have two of them and you?ll swear that you have some percentage of Latin in you. Our app, name I am forgetting, was comprised of beef, fried onions, and flat bread ? amazing. The Paella was great; the portion was too much for one person and subsequently became a take home item. The tres leche was one of the best I ever had, seemed a bit on the small side, but again it was so good we could have eaten a whole cake. Or waitress was great, very cute. Definitely recommend it for B-Day parties or when you just want to have a fun time. They have some kind of pre-fix deal mon-thurs, as I hear it?s a great deal for the value. Also get their early on Friday or Saturday, the place gets packed

I went to Yuca Bar this past saturday night with four friends for a birthday dinner (mine). Although they wouldn't take reservations, we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The food was Terrific, and the margaritas were good and really, really strong. My friend had the sea bass, and I coveted it all night, b/c it was so yummy. I would get that next time, although the seared tuna special i had was tasty as well. Also, the hostess (whose name I don't know) was so, so nice - a big change from the snotfaced hostesses that have become de rigeur in the east village and LES. I'd definitely go here again!

My husband and I went to Yuca Bar last night because we haven't been there in a while and loved their mojitos. After checking their website, we saw they were advertising happy hour from 5-8 on weekends. Once we got to the restaurant and asked the hostess about the happy hour, she acted clueless, as if she had no idea what we were talking about. Once we were seated, two tables behind us also asked about the weekend happy hour and were very unhappy about the false advertising. The Manager had the nerve to say that they are aware that the website advertises it, but that it is wrong and they have the webmaster to fix the mistake, but he hasn't yet. I find that excuse to be as lame as they come and really, no excuse at all. If your website advertises something, you are required to honor it. The manager also told the group that since she is not the general manager, there was nothing she can do about it. Apparently offering a free drink to some very unhappy customers is not within her powers. The staff at Yuca bar is beyong inept. This is not the first time I have been given incorrect information from the staff. I will never go to this restaurant again not only for the complete lack of interest they show in their customers, but because their food is average, at best. Oh - and someone should remind the bartender that mojitos are MADE WITH MINT.

i went to yuca last thursday with some friend from work, looking around we saw the happy hour specials and we went in, the place was packed, so we had few drinks at the bar while waiting. The mojitos are some of best i tried in the city. When we sat the waitress was very knowlegable and answered all my questions since i was not familiar with some of the things. The steak was delish, and the tuna was cooked as requested wich is unusual, the tapas were small but tasty. I will defenatly recommend this place to my friends.

we order 6 $10 shots of tequilla and they gave us water... not watered down tequilla... straight water... and when asked why they were all water he said and i quote "that tequilla is really smooth, huh?" in the most smug of tones...

i hate Yuca Bar and will never go there again... please do the same!

I found this place by luck and I'm glad I did! The food was delicious! The drinks were GREAT!! And the staff puts the icing on the cake. The prices were average. Not cheap but not ridiculously expensive but it is so well worth it if you want a good meal!! I went with 3 other people who all had different meals and they loved it! Very comfortable atmosphere.

I was here with a friend a few weeks ago for happy hour around 7pm on a Tuesday... it's a tough deal to beat. All of the small plates (tapas) are half off and if I recall correctly, the drinks were also. The outside seating area is sort of small but if you are lucky enough to land a table out there, you should take it because Yuca is on the corner and the area around the restaurant is la*d back and relaxing. The interior of the restaurant has a cool South American/Cuban theme and works well to add ambience to the experience. For dinner, my friend and I shared a pitcher of red sangria (half price at $18 -- such a great deal!) that knocked us both on our a*ses... by the time we left we were both feeling the effects -- in other words, the sangria is strong here, which can't be said for every restaurant that has sangria. The tapas were really tasty also. We tried the guacamole ($5), the crab cakes ($7), and the coconut-crusted shrimp ($10)... oh, but those prices are the *normal* prices... so at half-price (for happy hour) our food total came under $10 -- CAN'T BE BEAT! Those 3 items filled us up sufficiently and everything was delicious. The service was fine -- no problems in that category. I'd definitely head back here for their happy hour deal.

Really tasty latin drinks and great prices on lunch menu. They often have happy hours which really make the check easy on the wallet. Great people watching when it is nice outside.

Yuca is always crowded and loud at night. The food is good, the drinks are ok but the service is terrible. It's a classic - new york, get 'em in, move out as quickly as possible vibe. I have been there 3 times in the past year and each time, our waitress was hovering, shoving menus down our throats before we even sat down and pressured us to purchase more. We only wanted tapas, the waitress insisted we get entrees as the 'tapas were really, really small." I'd blame it on the waitress but since this is the THIRD Time this has happened, I'll chalk it up to management which probably forces them to turn tables over QUICKLY.

The crowd is mostly students - essentially a sports bar without the TV and Frat Guy/Beer smell. NOT GOOD FOR DATES, better for a loud girl's night out, but then again, be ready to fend off aggressive waitresses.

I'm sad to say that Yuca Bar has taken a steep nose dive from my 'favorite places to eat' list. I've been a loyal patron for years, and I've brought tons of residual business to this local eatery through word of mouth to friends and friends of friends. However, I have been disgusted and appalled by the increased deterioration of customer service, the downgrade of food quality, and the lack of courtesy and gratitude from its Management. My friends and I, who have had dozens of groups dinners at Yuca, were at the unfortunate receiving end of a racially sparked incident by another group of patrons (can you believe that these still occur...in 2007...in NYC...in a LATIN restaurant...in a racially diverse neighborhood like the EV!?) that took place there earlier this summer. This completely ruined our dining experience for the rest of the evening. The Manager on call that night was partly responsible for what had happened, and yet, she made absolutely no attempt to apologize or ?manage? the situation. She was quick to remove herself from any wrong doing and was apathetic, at best, and even insulting at times. She had zero interest in salvaging our patronage, nor did she seem at all familiar with the adage, "The customer is always right". To worsen the experience, even the quality of the food was only slightly above mediocre. I've never felt so passionate about boycotting a restaurant, until now. Go to Esperanto, or Buenos Aires, or Azul Bistro, anywhere else but here!

Went to Yuca for brunch - the food is great, and the brunch deal includes a drink. Try the Heuvos Rancheros, amazing - on a quesadilla. The service though was abysmal. We order a bloody mary each at the bar when waiting, and got another at the table. The service was slow and not attentive, but we were not in a hurry. When the bill came, there was an extra bloody mary on the bill, and the waitress absolutely couldn't believe that we hadn't had the drink - to the point of being belligerent. It was amazing to me that she was absolutely convinced that five of us, including two in their 60s would try to cheat the place out of a Bloody Mary.

Unfortunately I can't review the food here, because my experience never got as far as actually eating. My ladyfriend and I headed here on July 4th for brunch. Our inept waiter seemed to think his ponytail was all the charm he needed, and he took our order in a way that made it seem it was the first time he'd done something like that. We should have heeded the warning. Quite some time later we asked where our drinks were, and he returned saying the restaurant's computer "hadn't taken the order" when he entered it, and that he'd have to take it from us again. He promised profusely that it would just be a couple of minutes for our food to arrive. About twenty minutes later, long after everyone who'd arrived after us had been served, and our waiter seemed more intent on taking new customers' orders than delivering ours, we decided to leave. On the way out I told the waiter that our food hadn't arrived and that we were out of there, his response was "your food hasn't arrived yet?" The manager didn't seem to care when we left (his response to the waiter was "you should keep an eye on your tables more") -- now I understand why there were lines for restaurants down the street and not this one.

I would definitely recommend Yuca Bar if you're up for a fun atmosphere with good food and drinks! My husband and I decided to go here on Cinco de Mayo. We expected it to be extremely crowded and to have at least an hour wait for a table. It only took about 20-30 mintues and we got a table outside. The mojitos and sangrias are awesome! I felt like I was in Miami with my authentic mojito! The service was quick but not pushy. Our waitress (I think her name was Elizabeth) was wonderful. She gave us some great suggestions on her favorite dishes. The only negative is that I could see it being less enjoyable if we were with a large crowd. Also, there wasn't that much room by the bar to have a drink while waiting for our table. Other than that, we had a great time.

Just went here lat Friday night. It was already packed at around 6:30-7! Loved it. Was the best Latin/Cuban food I ever had in the city. We had the lobster quesadilla as a tapa and that was very yummy. I also had the filet mignon which was soo good and juicy! Sangria was also good, atmosphere was lively, and service was nice too. Would definitely go back to try other things on the menu!! Happy hr is until 8 pm I think and on Tuesdays I think tapas and drinks are half off?? So next time I go it will be on a Tuesday =) They also have an outdoor seating area and a bar. Great place for hanging out with friends or a date!

Also get their early on Friday or Saturday, the place gets packed.

Before I begin...plan ahead because the place gets PACKED!!! However, it's well worth the wait :)
Now for the review: Once seated...the manager came over...took our order of a pitcher of FRESH sangria and mango mojitos! What great service! Then our waiter came over, Michael, and was our comic relief for the remainder of our stay! If you want hysterical...ask to be seated in Michael's section!! Thanks Mike for a great time!!! :) Our appetizers came in record time as did our meal. I must say...this East Village eatery will last long with great service, food and drink! Oh, I cannot forget the hostess...I don't remember her name but she was great...for being super busy she was super calm and really polite to everyone!!! Keep up the good work Yuca Bar! See you again soon :)
