Astor Wines & Spirits

I bought a box of wine along with several other wines in May and opened it in June. The wine was oxidized although I had kept in a cool air conditioned place.
I brought the wine to their shop and they refused to exchange it. I asked them why as the return policy allows for store credit and they answered "because we never exchange wine-only hard liquor"!!

They have a great selection of wins and often have weekend events to try out some new blends. The prices are a little steep but you have to factor in the location and the volume they carry. Go there if your looking to buy a bottle or two, not in bulk.

Astor Wines and Spirits is really a nice Manhattan wine store - the wine selection is really significant in terms of varying regions and prices. The staff is very nice and a good discussion on wines. Overall, I would definitely go there irrelevant of the wine I was in the market for. However, for spirits there are definitely better places - being a Manhattan store I do not believe it has the room, literally, to be all things for everyone in wines and spirits.

This is like the uber store for wine and liquor lovers. Everything is neat and organized, the people are helpful yet you're more than welcome to browse at your own pace. Definately check out the wine tastings!

The selection at Astor Wines & Spirits is enormous as they have rows of wine. The staff is fairly knowledgeable although not as much so as a few other stores around town. Great place to find odd ball wines and they have a good selection of Kosher wines to.

Astor wines has a great selection and the store is always very busy. The prices are decent and they often have wine tastings with very informative sessions.

Every weekend there is a tasting of some sort and I am someone who is still learning about the world of wines. I feel that you can come in and see a few bottles and learn from the staff who are knowledgeable. It prepares you for when you go to larger stores that not only have more selections but less staff that can seriously walk you threw the store.

PROS: The staff works very hard to educate and find you a wine
CONS: Sometimes on the weekends it's packed when you come in the afternoon

Astor Wines always has weekend tastings of some kind of themed wine - Wines from Greece, or New Pinot Noirs, that sort of thing. Selection is good, though runs a bit more higher end than most liquor stores. Good selections of wine racks, as well

Basically I think the best thing going for this store is its location on Astor Place. The store is medium-sized, but the selection is iffy in terms of quality. There are a couple decent finds, but most of the wines are on the lower end of the scale. This store is probably best for wine beginners, people just looking to experiment with different regions and grapes. But for my friend, a wine expert, the selection did not hold much weight by way of the more complex varieties. The staff was very nice, however.

PROS: Nice staff, good location, many bottles.
CONS: Selection was "eh."
