My children have been attending classes here for more than ten years. All of them have gotten a great deal of enjoyment from the classes here. Other schools I checked into had so many rules I didn't know if it was a dance school or military training. Dance Workshop is casual enough that it isn't intimidating. At the same time, the classes build self-esteem and teach responsibility.

My children learned ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. There are a wide variety of dance copmanies for all age levels and the school does participate in some competitions. Students from the school have gone on to various dance careers, and one young man will be attending the American Ballet School in Manhattan this year.

Boys have gone here and this past season my son did. He was thoroughly encouraged by all and it was a positive experience for him. Many of the students have the opportunity to help out the younger students and several have go on to be teachers themselves.

The recital at the end of the year is world class - held at the Flushing Theater in the Park. Some people don't like it because the ticket prices are steep (last year $25) but the kids really enjoy getting to perform in a real theater.

It's a great place which builds a great sense of camaraderie among the students, staff, and parents.

PROS: great teachers, builds self-esteem in students without too many rules
CONS: steep ticket prices for recital
