The vodka makes you want to dance! so does the ambiance. Modeled after a home of a wealthy nobleman near St. Petersberg, the service is impeccable. Get the caviar and vodka flight special. Stavinsky would be proud.

Came here for lunch for restaurant week. (There were more menu options under the RW dinner menu).

I had the soup (cold beet) of the day to start, the Vareniki (mushroom ravioli) and the raspberry sorbet (too sweet). All very nice.

My friends tried the Firebird blini, Georgian spiced chicken breast and the daily catch (tilapia) and the flourless chocolate cake.

Service was a bit slow as there was only one waiter servicing all the tables.

I co-hosted a shower for my daughter on the private second floor of Firebird for 50 women. The magnificent setting, delicious food , and attentive service cannot be matched. Three days later I was still wanting more of my delicious meal. Our guests had choices of the chicken kiev, the short ribs, salmon in pastry, infused honey vodka, molten chocolate cake and cheesecake, to mention a few selections- all were memorable and my guests raved about the experience there. The wait staff could not do enough to please us and helped us carry out the presents to the car at the end . Claire, the party planner at Firebird was attentive to every detail and could not have been more helpfiul. All things come together at Firebird -the food is delicious, the service extraordinary to the end and the setting absolutely beautiful. We had an experience that we will treasure forever and I can't wait to go back!

Some of my colleagues recomended this restaurant and I decided to take my family out for a night out on the town. We all had a spectacular dining experience. The food was not only great but also tabled in a very artistic manner. In fact, the entire restaurant is set up as a Russian Palace. They have an extensive wine list but when we all saw the vodka list, we decided to order from the vodka list. This list must have had over 100 different vodka selections. We first orderd the caviar and vodka tasting. I am very glad that this restaurant was recomended to me as we all had a great dining experience. The food, service and atmosphere was really very good. I give this restaurant an A+ rating and I am truly a fan.

This place is terrible... after reading all the rave reviews, which now sound totally completely fake, I was very disappointed with expensive, tasteless food and lack of service. The FireBird is setup to ripoff visiting tourists into a costly bad meal with a pretty setting - stay away!

I took my mom for her birthday to Firebird restaurant because I know she likes czarist era. Except she was completely delightful with the ambiance, she was also very happy to try out caviar tasting. She picked platinum selection, where she paired Osetra caviar with Stoli Vodka, which was stunning experience. I went with Sturgeon because it is a beautiful poached white piece of boneless fish in gorgeous champagne sauce. At the end of the dinner the manager gave us a tour explaining the history of this place. All together-excellent choice ! We'll be back !

We had a wonderful dining experience here. This was our first time at this restaurant and will absolutely come back. We were treated very well and the dining was exquisite. We just could not get over the listings of vodka they had which had to have totaled to at least 200. We could not choose because of the large selection and they recomended the honey vodka. Wish I could have taken a whole case with me. The honey vodka was out of this world. Very nice experience.

I have not dined at this restaurant for quite a while as I travel abroad constantly on business, but I must say that everything at the Firebird Restaurant is as great as it was the last time I dined here . My clients and I dined here last night (my clients were impressed that this place had the decor of a russian csars palace)and were all impressed at not only the decor but the great food, great service, and extremely large and impressive wine & vodka list. I would truly recomend this restaurant for any and all occassions.

We went for restaurant week summer '08. The restaurant is very quiet which is nice - you can talk to your friends without yelling. This is handy when you are seated at a very large semi circle booth as we were. The service is fine, professional and mildly friendly. The food was very good, I have no complaints. It was not the most exciting food I've eaten but the overall experience including the decor and ambience make it worth a trip. The infused vodkas are excellent and a must try. The bartender is a bit low key and the bar was very quiet on a Thursday night but I liked that. It's hard to find a bar you can actually sit at and relax. This place is definitely a throwback that attracts an older crowd but we had a good time. We had chicken kiev, pork chop, salmon in puff pastry, some salads and pierogis. All were enjoyed. Wine list is comprehensive with lots of choices around $50/bottle.

Not only was the raw food destroyed in its preparation and the service completely lacking, but the restaurant evidently does not have change. They could not break a $20.

Avoid at all costs.

Everything about this place is spectacular. The restaurant is 4 floors of Russian Palace decor. The service was very good. They have a vodka menu with over 180 vodkas and their huge wine list is out of this world. I could not make up my mind in selecting a vodka for myself so the waiter (who was a great help) suggested the honey vodka, which was out of this world (any one coming to this restaurant must try the honey vodka). My guests had orderd from the wine list and were also equally gratified. I had the Chicken Corden Bleau & my guests had the Beef Stroganoff. Both dishes were spectacular. As if this was not enough, we ordered the bannanas flombay for desert and much to our surprise, they actually made it in front of you in a showmanship fashion (flames & all). I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went last night to celebrate a friend?s birthday. The food was not bad. A couple of funny things though. First ? $25 martinis ? enough said! For appetizer, we ordered the blini (Russian crepes) with fish or meat or whatever. Doesn?t really matter, and I?ll explain why later. This is an appetizer and there was very little food on the plate. That?s fine, I expected that. The funny part is, the waiter filled the first three blinis for us. Anyway ?. for the three blinis that the waiter made for us he used up about 90% of the meat on the plate. Looking into the blini bowl ? there were still three more blinis for us to fill on our own ? but practically nothing to fill them with. Now I don?t mind if you give me three blinis and three blinis worth of meat to fill them with ? that?s fine ?. But don?t give me six blinis with only three blinis worth of filling! By the way ? the reason that I said that the filling did not matter is because the filling in the initial three blinis was so sparse that you couldn?t taste it anyway. Next funny thing. The borsht on the menu costs $32. Now, for someone like myself ?. growing up with a Russian grandmother and eating borsht on a regular basis, you must understand that borsht is essentially a poor man?s soup. It is made of water, beets, salt and pepper and sometimes a few chunks of meat ? that?s it. Here the borscht apparently contained some foie gras or duck confit ? or something that does not belong in the soup. Now I do not recall exactly what the ingredients were, but I do know that they did not belong in borsht. For those of you who are not intimately familiar with Russian cuisine ? I?ll give you an example that we can all appreciate ? $32 wanton soup that is made with kobe beef ? enough said! The bottom line is that the food is good ? but aside from the Russian waiters and the Russian sounding menu ?. There is absolutely nothing authentic about the Firebird. If you want Russian food ? go to Brooklyn!

I had my bridal shower at Firebird on Saturday. Firebird doesn't feel like a restaurant- it feels like a wealthy turn of the century Russian townhome, particularly the third floor where my shower was held. There is a lovely parlor with a grand piano...perfect for guests to enter into. We paid per person ($30- extremely reasonable for a 3 course meal, considering we had the whole floor to ourselves). There was one long table in the dining room as opposed to smaller tables like you may usually see. I felt like I was at an old-fashioned aristocratic dinner party. Off the dining room is an amazing patio, wtih views of midtown, perfect for guests to wander out onto or gather on. We were there in the afternoon. The sun was out and it was perfect, but I can imagine it being quite lovely at night as well. BIG POINT- the SERVICE was TOP QUALITY. The waiters were exceptional and behaved as though they were at Le Cirque, not on Restaurant Row. They were most accomodating and seemed ok with most everything we asked. They were fine with us bringing the fancy dining chairs out onto the patio for present-opening. My mother was not charged one penny over what she expected and there was no discrepancies over the bill. This place is absolutely lovely. I got so many compliments on my shower- but so much of it was Firebird itself. I can't think of another place in NYC like this (and I have lived in Manhattan my entire life) so it really felt like finding a diamond in the rough. As for the food, it seems a tad heavy for brunch, but people were 'dying' (in a good way) over the chocolate molton lava cake they served. Firebird is the perfect balance of being grand and intimate at the same time. It seems the perfect place for a bridal or baby shower, a small fundraising dinner, tour group party, etc....For a party, this place is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I went with a group of friends to FireBird during restaurant week. The food was not terrible, but there were several problems with the service: from getting the wrong order to multiple errors in our bill. However, the disappointment was really in the price: $9 bottles of water and $17 martinis easily added up to more than $100 per person.

The manager is indeed attentive is the food is not bad, but the experience is definitely not compatible with the price.

We ate at the FireBird on a Saturday evening. The service was attentive, but the food was a disappointment. The salmon in puff pastry, while tasty, was a very small portion. The beef stroganoff was tough, bland, and served at near room temperature. We wanted a nice bottle of zinfandel - interesting how they were out of both bottles under $60. Only one at $68. was available. The strawberry charlotte for dessert was too heavily marzipan flavored and the hazelnuts were gritty. The bananas foster were great - but definitely not Russian and not worth a supplemental cost of $8. We did the prix fix menu, but still paid $190. for a mediocre to poor dinner. The piano player was the only true redeeming feature of this restaurant.
This restaurant was highly recommended by the concierge at American Express. Guess they just like to see high checks charged on Amex!

Its a wonderful place for romantic dinner. We've been there a week ago and had very nice time. Food was good. Blinis, caviar, meat plate,Lamb,Kiev kotleta, cakes and honey vodka are something.
Don't think that you can't wear dress or suit there. My boyfriend thought that he's underdressed.

Went to this restaurant recently, glad to see others agreed with me and would not recommend Firebird. Service and management rude and incompetent. Food unappealing. Such a competitive market in New York, I don't know how this restaurant has survived. Does not represent Russia well--vodka, people, or food. I have been to fine dining in numerous cities, trust me....go somewhere else.

We went for our anniversary. We had a truly wonderful time! The infused vodkas were wonderful. Our favorite was the Honey Vodka. We're making sure to stop back by just to have a glass of it when we go up for Christmas this year. Our dinner was fabulous and dessert was to die for. The atmosphere is wonderful and the service very professional.

I was in last week for what I thought would be a good place for an anniversary dinner. Boy, was I ever wrong. Not only did we have to wait to be seated-we had a reservation-but we had to wait at least 15 minutes to have our order taken. When our food finally came out, after reminding our inept server, the plates looked fithly and my chicken was cold and undercooked. If it that weren't bad enough, the chocolate cream in my husbands cake was sour and my ice cream was freezer burnt. The manager didn't even offer to compensate this disaster of a meal. For the price we had tp pay you would think we would have enjoyed ourselves. I would DEFINITELY NOT RECCOMMEND FireBird to anyone!! There are better place in NEw York for less money and higer quality. Take your business elsewhere.

I am still in shock at our terrible experience with firebird. We went there for mine and my husbands aniversary, and the service was terrible! But worst of all, they said they were apart of NYC restaurant week, but once we got there they said that the $35.00 pre fix was only from 5-7pm But no one mentioned this to us when we made our reservation, and specifically asked for the restaurant week special. Our tab was almost $200.00 dollars. And the food was mediocre at best. I would not reccomend Firebird to anyone. By the way, this is the first bad review that I have written about any restaurant.

It is one of the most elegant places I ever been in my life.
Reading the other ratings, people should have a little sense of taste when food comes to the table. This is the First time that I had such a wonderful food (fusion of Russian and French) which is the food that the Czars in Russia used to dine when Catherine the Great was ruling Russia. Brigton Beach is more casual and I haven't read NOT EVEN ONE good review of one single restaurant there. Im Russian and I think that Firebird is the not only the "Grand Dame" of Restaurant Row, I think it is the "Czarina" of Russian Restaurants. Starting for the beautiful hosstes that check you in, the attentive staff including managers and captains and the wonderful service, food and ambiance, Im sure that Firebird will be your next unforgetable dining experience.
Keep it up!

Keep it up!

Pros: Ambiance, wines, Service, food, Decor

.

The Grand Dame on Restaurant Row!
This experience couldn't have been any better, we were treated like royalties and felt at ease in such sublime ambiance, decorated as the traditional russians would. The traditional service is follow graciously by the staff and such professional demeanor was a big part of the satisfactory experience. We indulged with the impressive selection of the finest caviar, again, served impecably and traditionally. We decided to choose from their vast collection of Vodkas ... WOW!. The plates started flowing in, the Sturgeon was one of the best, (I would order it again), The Chicken Kiev was as well memorable. The desserts were among some of the best we had. I do believe Russian cuisine may be a different experience for a lot of people, but if someone decides to have one, The FireBird is the place to have it! The pianist was great!

Pros: Good prices, Good parking, Entertaiment

Having great Russian food experiences in the US and abroad, I was surprised by how mediocre and expensive the food was. The service was not terrible but a little stiff. Decor leans toward Vegas. This is a place strictly for tourists with money to burn. If you're a local in search of good blini try one of the places in Brighton Beach. That's where Russians eat.

Wow! Good impresion as soon I walked in the restaurant.
It's like a museum. Great for romantic dinner with your spouse. The vodkas, caviar, champagne and food were divine. Service was very attentive and cordial. Be ready to spend a couple of hundreds since they have unique vodkas and food (Chiken Kiev is to die for!) nothing less spected for a place like firebird, Classy and luxurious.
what a good option for fine diners in manhattan.
Spasiva!

I took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and I must say that FireBird was the only place with the kind of ambiance I was looking for. The food was superb, we order beluga caviar and was neatly presented and served with blini and traditional garnishes. The vodka selection is one of the most exclusive and elegant in the market (and I am a liquor and wine sales man) rare, exquisite, and fare prices considering that you will not find these vodkas anywhere else...

The staff was friendly and forthcoming. We only waited 10 minutes for our table even though we did not have a reservation

I would recomend this restaurant to anyone looking for an elegant evening.

Mediocre American entrees posing as Russian fare at ridiculous prices. $19 - vodkas, $8 cokes and $35 pork chops, interior is somewhat moth eaten and service inept (had to be reminded several times to deliver my order) and with attitude, when dissatisfaction was expressed the reply given was "that is how its done", indeed, done very poorly. Avoid firebird, apart from the decor there is very little that is Russian about it (being Russian I'd know) and it is pretentious and overpriced wihout a single redeeming quality.

Prices does not match with service delivery. Had a reservation, but still waited over 40 minutes. No one came to tell us anything about the status of our table. No offer to check our coats and the many bags we were lugging around. Had to take our jackets from the table (when we were finally seated) myself to the coatcheck. The staff was not friendly, even a bit snobby, and not responsive at all to guests needs. We had to ask for water and refills. Take your money elsewhere, where they are more likely to treat you like guests.

We went to Firebird on a company function (pre-theater)and we were excited to try it. Upon arrival we were impressed by the decor and character of the beatiful building. Drinks were great, but service was slow and food very disappointing. Had we been able to choose from the regular menu, it may have been better, but overall the food was pretty bad and service mediocre. I think Firebird has fell victim to its own success and is need of some revamping.

I have only been to Firebird once and would definitely go back but only for a special occasion. The place is absolutely gorgeous with all of the Russian antiques and the service was great. The food was very good (not spectacular) but slightly overpriced for what you are given. I guess it is a RR place so the prices are to be expected but all in all, it was a very enjoyable experience. It was a bit too quiet for my taste but that is just me. You MUST try a flute of the honey vodka. Words just cannot describe.....

Ambience great-harp player added a nice touch. Ran out of 2 desserts, but iced honey vodka in crystal flutes a nice touch.

We had the tasting with the wine pairing and the first five courses were very good, especially the blini (pancakes with creme fraiche and caviar). The wine selections were very well matched to the dishes but I thought that the last two courses, lamb with a salty sauce and dessert, were quite mediocre. This place is a solid special occasion choice.

The food was decent. The ambience was interesting. The service was mediocre. The price was ridiculous. Entrees are normally in the mid 30's, appetizers are normally in the mid teens. I felt the entrees were in the $20 quality and the appetizers were in the $7 quality. This Restaurant Row place is for tourist. I will not go back there because it is so overvalued.

You can't beat the $39 three course prix-fixe (available from 5:30 to close). The space is gorgeous and quiet. And it's pretty versatile. I'd as easily take my parents as I would a date.

I was really disappointed with the food. Having lived in Russia for 14 years, I have never seen blini as small and cold as they were served at this restaurant. I even asked the waiter if blini were coming later when he pointed to my plate. I have to say, that service was really nice, although all of the waiters looked like they were in mourning. Everything was very odd, and definitely very far from russian.

The decor and service were generally outstanding. The creative and upscale presentation of typically-blander Russian food was enjoyable. Perhaps a bit pricier than the food really deserved when you really look at it, but not surprising given its location. Great recommendation for pre-theater dinner.

For a special night out, this is the spot! We were treated royally. Don't skip the caviar. It's not necessary to order the beluga. The experience is the treat and as a main course, the halibut was superb. Everything was. Love the decadent upstairs bar and the over the top furnishings throughout!

Our experience at the FireBird is something that we will treasure for a long time. When we first arrived, we were pleasantly greeted as if we were regular guests. The decor in the restaurant is amazing. Its Grande, and at the same time very cozy. Our waiter was more than helpful. He gave us detailed information on the different vodkas, caviars and everything on the menu. The service was splendid, the European way. The food was suburb, nicely plated and hot. A very nice gesture came with dessert, because it was my birthday (the waiter must have overheard it), so on the dessert plate was written Happy Birthday in chocolate. This was a very nice touch. Also the pastry chef deserves a place in history, it was sublime. And we ended our meal with their home-made (yummy) honey vodka.
Thank you FireBird.

Very pleasant meal. Went for lunch, and got the lunch special of a soup (Corn chowder, very good), an entree (several to choose from) and a dessert. All excellent, and a great bargain. Perhaps the best combination of quality food and service for the price of all the restaurants we visited during our stay. We walked in for lunch, but I would imagine evening would have been tougher.
