I've been a regular customer of La Villa in Park Slope for years and have since ordered well over 50 of their calzones. In particular, their spinach and chicken calzone. My very first order, some years ago, I requested a small container of red marinara sauce to go with my calzone and the guy (owner?) said "sure, no charge." Since then I've asked for the same small container of red sauce with each calzone and it's been gratis. A nice gesture to go along with a very expensive calzone. Today I called in my order for my favorite calzone and the girl on the phone said, "This will be the last time you're getting the sauce for free, from now on you're going to pay for it." Now, think about it: I've bought dozens of their $15.25 calzones over the years, I'm a local regular, and NOW they want to charge me over $2 more for a small container of sauce that must set them back 5 cents. Really screwball way to treat a regular. I told them that I wouldn't order it without the free sauce and the girl at the front desk just didn't care. Well, screw 'em. If they can find a sucker to spend $2+ dollars on an ounce of red sauce, congrats to them. It just won't be me. They lost me as a customer.

Great appetizers, great pizza, but the main dishes are really lacking. I got a meat sauce with no meat, and a very bland sauce. The restaurant feels more like a chain restaurant rather than an authentic Italian place.
Aunt Suzie's is right next door... I recommend taking a few steps down the block for much more authentic food and atmosphere.

I think the pizza at La Villa is amazing! Their calzones are also great! Besides the good food, the people who run La Villa are wonderful also. This is a really neighborhood place and they give back to the community by supporting the schools (namely PS 39!). We are very lucky here in Park Slope!!

First the pros: one of the best pizzas, if not the best, in Park Slope. High quality toppings, excellently blistered crust. Service in the restaurant, however, has been regularly slow, disinterested and unhelpful, pastas are mediocre, and dishes other than pizza are disappointing for the price. Fourr stars for the pizza delivery; two at best for the rest.

The Pasta dishes were very large and tasted great. I am looking forward to going back very soon to try the pizza.

I just took my Manhattanite friends here for lunch. I wanted to show off my new neighborhood, just moved to Park Slope. Walked by here before, looked nice, menu looked great so we gave it a try. At 3 in the afternoon there were about 4 tables occupied but the service was so slow. They didn't refill drinks unless asked and it seemed like forever for them to take our order. Food was good. Probably won't go back unless someone I am with really wants to go, otherwise won't suggest.

We order from La Villa all the time, and they have excellent deep dish pizzas and soups, with great prices. I can't say the atmosphere is amazing, but it's a neighborhood spot where people can bring their kids. Recommended!

I don't know what is wrong with the other people who reviewed this restaurant. The garlic bread and foccaccia is great...not "wonderbreadish." My Italian great-aunt enjoys eating there and at any other Italian restaurant she claims she can "make it better." But not at La Villa. Also...please explain how the decor is "garrish??" It is a warm inviting restaurant with good service and great food. I guess the other people who made reviews would prefer a cheesy fake marble, columns decor with waitresses with so much hairspray that they need to avoid an open flame.

I too was put off by the garish decor and harsh lighting, who wouldn't be?

The food is exceeding average, like I made it. In fact I think I could dupe most of their dishes. It's that pedestrian. Nothing, nothing stood out with the exception of the slightly interesting pizza.

The service is soooo slow at times and the general feel is not hospitable. There's maybe 2 good waitressess in the place. The waiters are stunning bad, they usually stood around chatting with themselves.

I didn't understand why this place was jammed either until I saw the crowd that was in there.
The place is also lousy with kids, not a plus when you're trying to eat.

Been there twice and must say the afternoon visit was much better.

I've passed this restaurant many times over the years, always being scared off by its garish decor and harsh lighting. Last night I finally decided to try the food. This is as basic as Italian-American gets and I am really suprised by La Villa's popularity, especially when there are so many great alternatives nearby. Wonder-bread-ish garlic bread was followed overly sauced, overly garlic-ed, an oversized pasta dishes. The broccoli rabe side was fine, but again with too much garlic which masked the biter flavor of the vegetable; and it was floating in too much liquid. Someone told us that the pizzas are good here, so I will try one soon, but for now this place looks like an Italian version of that famous end-of-week chain.

We walked in late with a party of five on a Wednesay night and had a twenty minute wait. I'm so glad we waited. EVERYTHING is good.
Your tastebuds are teased but the incredibly good garlic bread at the table. You absolutely must try the homemade meatballs as an appetizer! The calamari is equally as good.
Everyone's entrees were delicious! The pizza speciale was great and so was the La Villa Special entree! I wish we had room for dessert but it was late and we were all getting tired.
All the patrons are loyal customers and you will be, also!
