Went to the Little Hair Shoppe this past Sunday with my groupon for a professional blow dry. I needed my hair jazzed up a bit for a wedding so Dane walked me through some options that he felt worked well with my dress. He was spot on with his consultation! Would definitely go back again. PS It did cost me an additional $25 to add soft curls in my hair, but it was well worth it. I was one happy customer. Thanks Dane, you're a sweetheart!

I have been going to The Little Hair Shoppe since I moved to NYC four years ago and I haven't regretted it for a second. Over the years I have had my hair cut by Kris, Dane and Petra, and they always did an excellent job and showed meticulous attention to detail. Also, everyone who works there is very friendly and an all-around good person. I would never consider going someplace else.

There really are no guarantees in life, but when someone tells you they've been coloring hair for 10 years it's a nice feeling to get your hopes up. Alas, pretty naive too. I went to see Dustin to get my hair "color corrected" for a mistaken encounter with DYI hair color. While he did manage to fix it (a bit), the next time I rinsed my hair TONS of dye came streaming out. And upon closer inspection, my hair is still a myriad of colors, and by "myriad" I don't mean tonal, I mean random patches of reddish purple disaster. There's no possible way he didn't notice the uneven quality of his coloring job, so I can't believe that he would charge me such an outrageous amount. And then to only include 'difused' DRYING, in the cost...a total mockery of decency. But you can go if you want.

Pros: The staff was nice to chat with

Cons: I'm hard press to not get my money back

Everything about this place is amazing! Dustin gave me a great haircut and gave some killer highlights that I have been getting compliments on ever since I got it done. Everyone is so friendly and you can't beat the price. I guarentee you go in there you won't go anywhere else!

I have NO idea why this place gets such rave reviews. Yes, the owner is nice and friendly but there is NO ONE in this salon that does hair NY style. Please don't believe the hype, that's all it is...this place is way below average by NYC standards! I mean think hair cuttery with good PR and hype! LOL! Save your money, save your tresses and go somewhere else! NIGHTMARE waiting to happen...ie I just graduated beauty school by the skin of my chin and this is the only place that would hire me! They delete all the bad reviews so I hope I save at least one person from the hair horrors that lie in waiting at this salon!

I have been going to Petra for 4 years, and love her dearly, but I needed a cut last minute and she was on vacation. So, I went with Dustin. My hair is an uber-thick, fast growing mess, (very difficult to style, according to several past stylist) and it had been to long since my last trim. Dustin confidently took the reigns, brought my do under control, and made me look great. I received complements throughout the day and the official thumbs up from form my girlfriend.
I highly recommend him!

Out of convenience, i mistakenly went somewhere else and the woman gave me a MULLET!! nothing against mullets but not for me. After a week of just wearing a hairband, I visited the Little Hair Shoppe. Petra saved my social life! She is brilliant and honest. She will tell you the truth and will never try to "sell" you on anything. After holding back from giving her a huge hug (somehow seemed inappropriate and shallow), i vowed that i will NEVER go to anyone else again.

I'm a student at NYU, so I usually only get my hair cut when I go home to Georgia, but my hair had gotten too long so I reluctantly sought out a new hair place. I picked Little Hair Shopped based on the reviews here and its proximity to my dorm. When I first went in, they were more interested in ordering lunch than helping me. And while Dustin did give me a lengthy consultation, he ended up doing exactly what I didn't want. I loved my previous hair cut, I told him to just keep it like that but just cut it shorter, and instead I ended up with this horrible bob I didn't want AT ALL. And then he got snippy with me when I told him I wanted my ends more textured. I even showed him a picture of EXACTLY what I wanted and he still didn't do it. I understand artistic hair license, but when someone is telling you what they want, you just have to do it. He also left my hair completely asymmetrical so one side is much shorter than the other, making me look terrible. So now I have to wait for this horrible look to grow out. I wish I had never gone there!

This salon was recommended to me by a friend over 3 years ago and I have been going ever since. I absolutely love it. While the space is small, don't be fooled into thinking this is some dinky, second-rate salon. This place is top notch! The hair stylists are knowledgeable & talented, the staff is super friendly and the prices are great. There is a reason they have such a loyal clientele.

With a staff as charming as the name, Little Hair Shoppe is definitely a cut above the rest! Nestled right off the Bowery in NOHO this quaint salon offers everything I have ever looked for in hair care. Maintaining great relationships and great prices is the LHS specialty. I have been a client for the past two years and I can definitely say that the vibe there is more like hanging out with friends. Walking in the door you are always remembered whether you are sitting down with Petra, Kris, Beau, Seiko, or Tracy. If you are looking for an amazing colorist then you have definitely come to the right place. Newbies beware of immitation!!! There is only one Little Hair Shoppe responsible for the best tresses in NYC and this is it!!!

I've been going to The Little Hair Shoppe for five years, and everyone there -- Beau, Tracy, Petra, Todd, Dane, "and the rest" have always done a great job for me. Friendly, knowledgeable, so easy to work with. Tracy's a top-notch colorist and has taken me from red to sunny blonde without destroying my hair's texture, and that's not easy! She also gives a great cut without making a big deal out of it, you practically don't realize how awesome it is until a few days go by and you see how nicely everything hangs together. I always leave the shop feeling happy and prettier than when I went in and like my money has been well-spent. They really make you feel like a star!

A few years ago my friend Kim told me about this great hair salon and I have been going ever since. Tracy always does a great job of cutting my hair! I totally trust her and get so many compliments on my hairdo. I also enjoy the background patter and antics of the other stylists.

I'm always very very happy w/ Tracy's work on my highlights - she's friendly and chatty, but also utterly professional and highly skilled - I completely trust her w/ my hair. I won't go anywhere else. The little hair shoppe is a true gem in this city.

Tracey has been cutting my hair for over a year now . When I moved back to NYC I asked a collegue (whose hair always looked great!) to recommend a hair dresser. That was my lucky day , and the end of searching. Not only does Tracey cut my hair beautifully. We can discuss styles honestly. She tells me what will look good on me, and what will not. She has given me excellent advise on color, conditioning and maintnance. She is never 'pushy' about what I should do. Tracey respects were I am with my hair (I don't have the patience to fuss with it). I trust Tracey and my hair always looks good. The little hair shoppe is comfortable, and all the staff are relaxed and friendly. Go there. See Tracey. You will have a fantastic haircut, and a good experience.

The little hair shoppe is such a pleasure. It's almost like getting your hair cut in your own living room, if your living room came with really good hair stylists. Top notch service in an attitude-free place, with reasonable prices to match. I wouldn't go anywhere else.My stylist Chris did such a wonderful job on my highlights.I was so pleased. Also, I recommend any of the stylist there. In the time I was there, I only seen great work come out of that salon.I will be back and I will be sure to tell all my friends.

I went here to get the basics done - a Haircut and dye my hair black.TRACY made me CRY! First of all she doesn't stop talking. Secondly, after every strand of hair she "chopped off" she would ask me if its ok. Now if i did know, i would be doing her Job!!!!! Being a student, $200 is definitely an investment for me... especially for my hair. She did NOT stop asking me if my hair was black enough and FREAKED out, after I simply asked my friend if my previous brown could be seen slightly. She claims she gave me a haircut which i STILL CANNOT see.i look exactly the same as before i went to her, maybe even WORSE.She combed my hair and in it, my eyebrow piercing got stuck and started bleeding.By this time she saw her next customer walk in and began to tell me to "GET OUT". not only do I look like a butcher chopped my hair, but neither did she dry it (set/style it) nor put an OUNCE of product in my hair.

Part of me doesn't want anyone else to know about The Little Hair Shoppe, but they have treated me SO WELL over the years, I want to give them all the business I can...even if it means it will be harder for me to get an appointment. :) For years, I would only go to my stylist in LA because I was too afraid to try someone in NY once I moved here. Beau was recommended to me, and now I'll never go anywhere else!

They are professional, relaxed, but most importantly HIP to hair. There's no sense in paying 100+ for a haircut when you can pay less than 70 for a GREAT hair cut. I've gotten hair cuts, highlights, and a perm...I'd trust them with anything. Most of them are trained or have worked for bigger salons like Frederick Fekkai but prefer a smaller, cozier atmosphere. Petra, Chris, Beau, Robert, Tracy and everyone else are an awesome bunch of people! (Beau is my personal fave, but when he's busy they will accommodate you so I've had other stylists, and they are all great.)

I had one bad perm, through NO FAULT of their's...I have extremely difficult hair to perm (It didnt look bad, it just didn't take) and they refunded me completely no questions' asked. To me, THAT is GOOD BUSINESS. A friend of mine got a bad cut at Vidal Sassoon and had to deal with months of phone tag with their corporate office, and their service was terrible.

If you just need your bangs trimmed, it's only 10 dollars, and they will squeeze you in. Great for in between hair cuts!

The Little Hair Shoppe is the BEST salon in NYC. HIGHLY recommended!

Cons: Depending on your schedule, you may have to call in advance if you want a specific stylist, but otherwise NONE.

I have curly hair and have received several awful haircuts throughout my life. Petra put an end to all that! She is a great stylist and always very honest. I once asked her for side-swept bangs, and she combed my hair to that style and asked: "Would you really be OK with this?" It was obvious to both of us that my hair was too short for it at the time, and she recommended growing it out and then coming back for that haircut (which I did). I used to get my hair cut at Devachan, a salon which specializes in curly hair, but the price was at least $125 (and higher now), and Petra gives just as good of a cut for us curly folk. Thanks, Petra!

I was hesitant in writing this view, wanting to be selfish and thinking... if everyone finds out how fabulous he is how will I ever get an appointment? But i can't keep this secret to myself. This man knows what he is doing. My hair felt lighter and had a great fall to it after my cut that lasted about 2-3 months! Best cut ever! And I LOVE HIM. He's so funny and kind and warm and knowledgeable. A TREAT! And at a very reasonable price. YAY to LHS! Yay to the little family they've created their! And yay to my resident that introduced it to me!

tried this salon out. watched petra do a really cool hairdo next to me. my stylist was way too careful. i asked for his advice at first since i never do that, thought it might spark creativity into the stylist and i wouldnt get the same stupid hairdo. i asked him to go crazy and he did anything but, which i guess i understand people are weird about their hair. i asked for him to fix again by saying "take this all off" at the end but he barely did what i asked so i just gave up and left it was like pulling teeth asking him to be risky....not understanding how shaggy and choppy turns into something barely layered.. had another hairstylist saying "thats cute" which is normally what is done when hair goes wrong i think. i am not a picky person, but my haido looks like the same cra.. butchy hairdo i always end up leaving salons with even though i ask people to be creative and not give me something normal. i want to look retro and pretty not leave looking like a boy for once...are there any creative stylists out there?....I wont go back. But it would be good for someone who wants their hair barely cut or trimmed.

I have to admit, I wrote a positive review on this place about 9 months ago, but shortly after that I had a terrible experience so I think it's only right to change my review. I think for cuts it's a fine place to go, but I had my hair colored there and it was a terrible experience. We were doing a one process color. How hard can that be? Now, I understand that sometimes colorists cannot go from one extreme to the other but from going blonde to dark red shouldn't be that hard. And if you can't do it, just tell me! We can figure something else out. But she tried to do it anyways. My roots were a strawberry red and the rest of my hair was brown. She tried to fix it 3 times that night. It looked a little better by the last try so I left. The next morning it was terrible. She blamed it on the "oxidation"??? I called and they got me in that day and she proceeded to color my hair 5 more times to get it all one color. I walked out of there with dark brown hair with absolutely no red and 8 layers of color.

I made an appointment here after reading many positive reviews about this salon and seeing that the prices were reasonable for NY. I am very happy I chose to come here. I had Tracy who was really attentive and listened to exactly what I wanted. When she didn't agree with something I had considered, she offered her opinion, which I really appreciated but made me comfortable with my decision. She also took her time with my cut and stressed that there was no rush when I was deciding what type of cut I wanted. I loved my cut and will definitely be going back again!! I should also mention that my friend got her hair cut there too, and nearly freaked out when she thought her bangs were too short. The salon was great about giving her a new stylist on the spot who was able to give her the cut that she wanted. The stylist was also honest and told her that she shouldn't cut her hair and let it grow. Many salons would cut a customer's hair anyway and charge full price. This stylist just trimmed her bangs and barely charged her anything. Overall, I thought the customer service at LHS was amazing.

This stylist just trimmed her bangs and barely charged her anything. Overall, I thought the customer service at LHS was amazing.

I am a former client of The Little Hairshoppe and was always really satisfied. I enjoyed the "homey" environment and the chocolate chip cookies I was given by the receptionist. The reason I stopped going back was because the last time I was there for a cut & color, they turned my hair an ODD shade of yellow. I didn't want to do highlights anymore and at that point I just wanted full color. I think maybe it was just a bad day because all the other times I went they were great. Other than my last weird experience, it was a fun experience and I'd recommend it to friends.

After wanting to get some red highlights put in my hair and needing a new colorist, I decided after I coworker recommended Petra to try TLHS. My last hairstylist in Queens was good with coloring, but seemed distracted the last time (she just had a baby) and didn't do her usual best, they didn't follow directions.

I love that TLHS has you come in for a consulation first. I never had a salon that spend that amount of time talking with you and asking that you bring a picture of what you want. Most salons not only do not do that, but when I brought a picture they barely look at it and sometimes I feel like they are not even listening.

Everyone at TLHS was extremely friendly and attentive. There was no waiting time. Petra did an amazing job on the highlights and actually LISTENED to what I wanted. They follow directions. Petra and her assistant worked on my hair together and unlike my last salon didn't have a tugging war on my hair or scalp!

TLHS is a small little hair shop with personality and without the attitude. I knew when I first walked in that this salon was a little different but in a great way. Also reasonably priced.

I definitely will be back and this time to try a haircut by Petra. My coworker who recommended Petra said that Petra was very good at handling our hair type with haircuts (I have very thick coarse curly hair).

Give TLHS a try! You won't be dissapointed.

I'm definitely that person who is perpetually searching for that stylist- who-will-stay-in-m y-life-forever. Let me say, never do i ever have such luck. Utterly failing in my attempt to avoid cliches, I must say that I am addicted to Beau. He is most definitely not a stop n'chop stylist. He really spends the time to learn about what you do with your hair, what kind of time you want to invest in it on a daily basis, and enthusiastically educates you on the best decisions for hair care and maintenance. I've got my doctor, my dermatologist, my therapist... why did I never bother to find a hair-care-taker? lets just say im adopting beau. great cut, great conversation and a totally chilled-out, cozy atmosphere. The name really does sum it up: adorable, homey and they really take such great care of you. did i mention good prices too?
I found Beau on citysearch and I told him I'd be paying it forward... Thanks again Beau!

I've been going to Petra for a while now, and I can honestly say that the results are beyond anything I have ever dreamed. With boring, but not exactly "typical" Asian hair, her skill and perceptive abilities have never ceased to amaze me. Once she knows you and your hair type, she makes a point to challenge you and bring out different aspects of your personality. Or, if you're feeling shy, she'll trim you and give you a different style so you feel like a whole new person...every time. More than anything else, she cares - about your hair, your budget, your life. Thanks, Petra!

I would recommend the Little Hair Shoppe to anyone! The staff is so friendly and awesome and Tracy is a genius! I recently left a shopping bag with some shoes I had just purchased, and the staff member offered to leave it with her doorman since I couldn't come back during business hours. You won't find a better, more friendly place in New York! And I love my hair every time Tracy does it!

This salon is terrific!

I have never been someone that was loyal to a salon or stylist I have never gotten a cut that knocked my socks off enough to return again.

As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed with open arms. The staff was so friendly to me. My stylist took the time to really learn what I wanted in a cut. The stylist really took her time and made sure I knew what she was doing during the cut. She made me feel like my hair was her hair. I?m never going anywhere else.

First time I came to the Little Hair Shoppe was in October of 2004, and it is the only place I have ever gone since then to get my hair done. I think just about everyone there has cut my hair at this point and, honestly, they are all fabulous at what they do. In addition to going there for a great cut, everyone there makes you feel like FAMILY--I always leave there in a great mood.

I lived in New York my whole life, but now live three states away--I still go to Petra to do my hair. And I always will! Thanks you guys! You are truly the best of the best! --Christine Zinno

all my of my friends go here so I thought I'd give it a shot. I went in for a simple shampoo and dry and I think I was double booked, because my appointment was with a stylist, and I ended up with her assistant. Not only did he have no idea what he was doing, but the main stylist, who was standing next to him, continued to encourage him and tell him how beautiful it looked even though everyone in the salon knew I looked like I had a beehive on my head. I became the mockery of the entire salon. The stylist did not even try to fix it even though she knew it looked awful. The worst part was that they tried to over-charge me! I went in for a simple shampooo and dry, and the assistant kept pushing me to do more to it, so they tried to charge me for an updo. Needless to say, I had to go home and wash my hair after paying $85 and do it over myself.

I absolutely LOVE the Little Hair Shoppe... I first went there when I moved to the city about 2 years ago from Europe and I am telling you it is a fantastic salon. I am very particular with my hair and have lived all over the world and honostly this place is up there with the best. I get my hair cut by Beau and he is my angel... I always leaving feeling fantastic and my hair always looks fabulous. His cuts grow out beautifully and so does his colors... Everyone in the salon are great, Petra, Chris, Tracy, Robert and its fun just being there for a few hours. I could fall asleep and trust that my hair will look great! Since I have started going there, absolutely all of my friends go there now too... I will recommend it to anyone!

I have been going to the Little Hair Shoppe for around 2 years now. I lived in San Francisco for 8 years prior, and always had my hair cuts done at diPietro Todd. I like my hair to be cut a certain way and like a lot of time and care spent on my head. I used to do the whole barber deal, since as a guy, I really didn't care too much about my hair cuts. However, my wife turned me onto a new style about 5 years ago and the barber cuts just wouldn't do it anymore. I've had my fair share of terrible hair cuts in my day and I was nervous about finding the right salon in NY, without having to spend a fortune.

A friend referred me to The Little Hair Shoppe and I have never been happier. Everyone from, Petra, Chris, Tracy, Beau and Seiko, to Robert, Dezzy and the rest of the group. They make you feel so welcome and really take pride in their work. Petra has a great salon and every one of her employees really cares about the business and their clientele. If you're not happy, they're not happy. I've never, ever had a bad hair cut there and always return. I must point out that as a guy, you'd think they'd have you in and out in no time. Not the case. My cuts easily take an hour and it's time well spent. I'd also like to point out that I don't even live in Manhattan and I make the trek on weekends to get my hair cut.

On a side note, if you ever get Seiko as your stylist, you'll love how she washes your hair. She massages your head for a good 5 minutes. It could be the most relaxing thing ever. Hahaha! Sometimes, I'm just excited to go in there and get my haircut from Seiko, just for the head massage! However, she does a really amazing job on my hair too. She's a total perfectionist. But then again, so are Chris, Petra, Tracey and Beau!

Anyway, The Little Hair Shoppe is the BEST! I have now turned my wife onto this place and will continue recommending all of my friends to the Little Hair Shoppe for years to come!

I had very long (to my waste) extremely curly hair. I?d also had the same look for at least the last 10 years. I wanted a new look, but didn?t trust ANYONE to touch my hair. I had been cutting it myself since I was 16. All I can say is thank god for Beau!! I was so nervous when I arrived at the Shoppe. Beau listened attentively to my ideas, and concerns about cutting my super curly hair. After my first session I felt 100% comfortable and confident with his abilities. So confident that I came back a month and a half later to enhance my new ?do? and take it to another level. I have Beau to thank for my great new look!
Everyone loves it!!

I have very fine straight hair, some difficult cowlicks, and a touch of a receding hairline. These challenges do not daunt my girl Petra. She's got intense skill, experience, artistry, and intuition. I had searched for years for a stylist who didn't make me nervous as I sat in the chair. I'm really picky about my hair. Because it's so straight and fine, and because I wear it short, any little mistake really shows. I've been with Petra for maybe a year or more now and she exceeds my expectations every time. She has vision and confidence, but has never hijacked my hair to do her own thing on my head. She's at once fast and pays attention to detail. In short, she's by far the best stylist I've ever worked with.

And she's a genuinely nice person. All of the staff at The Little Hair Shoppe are wonderful. The work they do is sophisticated; the attitude - welcoming, unpretentious, and fun.

I found The Little Hair Shoppe here on city search and chose it based on a lot of good reviews. I was even more encouraged when I walked in and saw two of my friends there having their hair done. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. Beau spent a lot of time looking at my hair and talking about what I wanted to do. He did a beautiful job with highlights and updating the cut I already had. I called the day after to say that it wasn't quite as blonde as I had hoped (next time I'll bring a picture), so they happily invited me in a week later to put a few extra highlights in. I've been having my hair highlighted in connecticut for a long time, but I think this is my favorite yet.
Everyone clearly takes a lot of pride in working there. They are precisely what a hair place in new york (not to mention the east village!) should be - sophisticated but unpretentious. Not only am I really happy with my haircut, it was a relaxing and nice experience. I've already booked my next appointment.

I broke a nearly 2-year no haircut streak and got over my terror of NYC salons (what if I get a bad cut? what if it costs me an arm and a leg?) and got basically the best haircut of my life at The Little Hair Shoppe. I think Tracy read my mind, and then improved on the psychic suggestion, giving me an awesome rockstar haircut that keeps me running back to the mirror to play with. For the first time ever, I can recreate the style I got that first day in the salon every day! I'm really happy with my hair for the first time in a long time, and suspect I won't be able to resist going back to get some rockin' color to go with my now rockin' curls.

I go to places that charge more than $20/cut more out of fear than a desire to by super stylin'. I had a bad experience at Jean Louis David. They made me look like an economics grad student fresh from the boat (when in fact I am a biology major from N. Jersey thx). I actually came to the Little Hair Shoppe because my regular was booked for two weeks, but I think I found someone new. Screw Petra as a backup (as she suggested)--she's my new primary!

Besides doing a great job on my cut, Petra is a better conversationalist than my f*cking therapist. I'm actually shocked that this place isn't booked ALL of the time. I have stick straight Asian hair (there is a bear rug on my head), so it's pretty impressive that she managed to make it look interesting for a change.

This place is worth the space on your speed dial. Petra has done a commendable job of recruiting the city's top talent and they consistently deliver. This past week I was on the receiving end of a make-up artist's, and I use that term loosely, wayward brush. I arrived at the salon for my blow-out looking like the stage version of Tootsie.
Petra sprang into action despite being double-booked and began feverishly styling my hair while delegating Bo to "FIX HER!"
Bo being the consummate professional swooped in and removed the massacred make-up to transform me into something much more presentable, even hot, if I don't say so myself. This fashion emergency thanks them for their speedy damage control. But crisis or not, this is the salon where you can get the expert cut, style, color and service without that pretentious attitude we mistakingly consider a necessary evil.

i've been looking for a new hair stylist for some time now. i read all the great reviews about petra so i decided to give it a try. she asked me what i wanted, if i wanted to change it up or just go w/ trim to clean up my current cut. she fixed my current cut enough to look different but not too drastic where i might have haircutters remorse. she's never pushy. she will offer her opinion but will do whatever you want until you are satisfied. after the first cut, i was pretty much hooked. i trust her opinion always because my hair always turns out awesome. four haircuts later and i'm still a loyal customer. i let her change it up now because i'm confident my hair will look gorgeous. she knows how to cut hair especially if you have long, thick asian hair like i do.

if you need a new stylist and don't want to pay an arm and a leg, definitely go to petra at the litltle hair shoppe. you won't be disappointed!

Pros: Cozy place with no attitude!!

I've been getting my haircut at this place for 2 years now and have been very happy with the results until after my last 2 haircuts. The 2 haircuts were extremely horrible! And I emphasize on EXTREMELY!!!!!!!The first haircut he gave he used the shearing scissors and got scissor-happy. It gave my hair so much split-ends!!! I hated it. But I couldn't find another inexpensive salon in the city so I went to him again. I told him I wanted soft layers like the cut from the picture. He gave me a mullet haircut! Disgusting!!!!!! Never looked anything like the picture. I now found a better salon in NJ and will never come back here. EVER!!!!

I can't say enough about the amazing staff at Little Hair Shoppe! They're all just the NICEST and most welcoming group on top of the fact that there's not a bad (or even mediocre) stylist in the place. I've gone several times in the past 2 years. Petra and Kristin have both done beautiful jobs on my hair. Petra actually got my hair from a deep red to a strawberry blonde in ONE treatment. AND it was HEALTHY! They'll also give you coffee and chocolate chip cookies while you wait. How can you say no?
