Pros: Had a great time here

.

I recently passed Chill Lounge on my way to work and made a mental note to check it out but after reading these reviews ........WOW !.. I am an after work , happy hour type person. I appreciate the owner replying to the reviews - you never see that on citysearch and on several reviews I agree with the owner ...first and foremost Chill is a BUSINESS that is in BUSINESS to MAKE money not LOSE money. there are probably patrons who nurse/sip one drink /beer for two - 3 hours and talk, I am sure the bartenders notice these "Moochers" and act towards them accordingly
While corporate people like us drink 4 - 5 drinks EACH in an hour. . I have no problem with tips (for party of 4 or more, I by myself tend to tip way over 20 - 30% all the time ) as long as the service is there and no attitude ..I and my co-workers will post our personal review after we visit Chill this month

Pros: To Be determined

Cons: To Be Determined

So much drama about this place judging from the reviews. However, I've only been here during the week and usually after work. From what I can tell, it's a good chill spot. Drink specials are great for Midtown and the music mix is better than having to pay for it.

If you're looking for a social scene, it's left up to chance. If you just want to enjoy a conversation or soak up the atmosphere then this place can sometimes be it. On a dreary Wednesday like today, it was the perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of the more "touristy" spots. Service is OK and everyone is usually friendly. Just be sure to treat the waitstaff with respect - Kudos to Christina and Jennifer!

The drinks are weak - I mean like no alcohol... and never ever should the tip be automatically included unless you have 8 or more people! A party of 2 though? Come on!

I can see where your staff get their unprofessionalism from. You come on here insulting people about how it's their at fault and could not possibly be your staffs lack of good customer service... i'm sorry to see you call yourself professional. you need to wake up. I unfortunately tried to celebrate my birthday there this January with my friends, and made reservations for the back room. I was promised the room would be just for me and my 25 guests. That didn't happen. They overbooked the room with two other parties (how does that happen with such a small place & small staff? someone must have realized and just refused to call the parties ahead of time and inform them. We professionals call this UNPROFESSIONAL.). Our cocktail waitress was beyond rude to everyone in my party & dumb as rope. Your food was portioned way too small for the price. And the mandatory coat check was just plain annoying for people who smoke in the middle of January. So please respond with another one of your rude & unprofessional comments, it just proves us right.

Cons: everything.

This place is great. Service can make or break your expereince, especially in such a small intimate setting. Everytime Ive visited Chill Lounge normally Friday or Saturday nights Ive had a great expereince. The staff is very professional. They always seem to be having a good time which in turn makes my expereince that much better knowing Im not surrounded by snotty bartenders/servers. When recommending places Chill is definitely at the top of that list.
Thank you to the management and staff for continuting to make our exepereinces at chill memorable and enjoyable

I concur with the previous review. I went to check out the chill lounge on Friday one of my co-worker's told me about this lounge. She had great reviews on it. So a friend and I decided to see if this lounge would fit for a party I wanted to give. As we approached the door the bouncer told us it was a mandatory coat check which was fine but we were not staying I just wanted to look in side. As soon as we got in the front door a guy which I guess was the manager or something snap his fingers at us and told us "check your coat" no welcome to the chill the lounge or how are you ladies doing tonight please check your coat. Just a snap and point. (RUDE). I would suggest that the owner send their employee's to a Customer Services Class. One thing I can's tolarate is rude people I am spending my money and don't derserve to be treated that way, and further more he didnt' know who we were I could have been a critic reviewing this lounge.

Pros: Drinks are cheap and music is good

Cons: Bad Customer Service

.

I've never reviewed anything in my life, however, after tonight - I felt compelled to do so. I was told this place had fantastic drinks and music - which they lived up to, but the rest was a far cry from anything I'd pay money for. From the start, the doorman treated my girlfriends and I like we were unworthy of existence, asking us to close the door behind us when there was no room to do so as another patron was blabbing away on his phone. His remark after id check "check your coat now" - not, "hello, welcome - here at Chill we ask that you check your coat." Customer service people. Our server was curt, rushed and snarky. The food took over 40 minutes to arrive and please don't get me started. Do not order food here unless you're fine with small plates that taste as though you heated up a frozen dinner. Rule number one, if you serve small plates - they MUST be fabulous. End of story. On top of that, the mandatory coat check and tax included (though we only had a party of 3) was absurd to me. I wine and dine at some of the most high end places in this city and I've never been treated so poorly in my life. I would describe this place as the nerd who 'got cool' in college. Don't let it get to your head. On a business level - I would remove the mandatory coat check and tip included on ALL bills (make it at least for a party of 5 or more). Also - doorman needs an attitude check. It's fine to be strict and/or selective - but when you treat potential patrons as if they're not human - not. ok.

If you want a good drink and great music - you may have fun. And the half price happy hour is a fantastic deal. I ask the owner of this place to rethink the way your company treats patrons. You're in the business of serving. We are paying for an experience....your experience is simply not up to par.

Ive been here twice, and enjoyed myself both times! My friend celebrated her 30th bday here, and we did the open bar for $30pp which was a great deal!, I liked the place so much I went back the next night with a group of people, and we all had a ball. Great music, and the drinks aren't weak!! oh I also had the mini burgers, and they were good as well. Will definitely be back!

Pros: Good Area we were able to find parking on the street!!! Clean Bathroom

I met a couple girlfriends here for happy hour, and we had a great time. The place was not crowded, but there were enough people there to make it fun. If you get hungry order the edamame or a pizza or both!

Bartenders are snobs, never asks if you'd like another drink unless you get their attention. One lousy tv that doesn't get cable, place is always so dark - you can only imagine it in daylight. There is a stench of cigarettes, cheap alcohol and b-ROACHES! Yuck!

Cons: bad service

This place has great music, and great drinks. My friends and I had so much fun here. It's so convenient, doesn't get too stuffy in there, because there's a room in the back. I love this place! Definitely going back, and bringing all the girls this time!

I have been going to Chill for a few years now - love the place. The decor is warm, the food is good (margherita pizza and crab cakes are recommended), the crowd is diverse and fun and lets not forget the BEST happy hour in NY. All drinks and food are half priced if you pay in cash; however, you are allowed to run a tab with a card and pay out in cash when you close the tab. Its the ONLY lounge in NYC (that I know of and correct me if I am wrong) that has TOP SHELF liquor included in their happy hour, which is Monday-Friday (4p-9p) and Saturday (5p-10p) The music is awesome and great for dancing, with several DJ's and their all good.

Pros: happy hour, music, atmosphere

Cons: size

I have been going to chill with a few friends, a couple times a week, for a while now. It's close to where I work, the drinks are decently priced, and the atmosphere is ecelectic. The Happy Hour is unbeatable, especially in midtown. The food is good, and also half price, if you pay cash.

So why did I give it 2 stars? Well, this time we went, and our regular bartender was not there. No matter we thought, we like this place, I'm sure we'll be fine. There were 3 of us, and we sat at the bar. We had some food with drinks, and when we were ready, we asked for the check. On the check we noticed an 18% "open service charge", that is, a tip. We asked the bartender to clarify, and he said that when the tab goes over $100, it automatically gets added on. B***S***! I've been there several times, with much larger tabs, and never, NEVER have I been charged that! and for sitting at the bar...THE BAR!!!! PLUS we pay cash, to get half price. The clincher is this, the 18% was calculated on the total amount, BEFORE the half price. I paid a 35% tip on the actual bill. I think a TIP is a TIP, given at the customers discretion, not added on by a greedy bartender, especially when we are sitting at the bar, not a table.

In hindsight, I should have probably made a scene, but we go to Chill to do just that, chill. When our regular bartender is around, we never have a problem. I honestly would give this place 4 /5 stars, but for this incident, I may never go back. Greedy bartenders leave a bitter taste... so beware... and pay as you go if you must go to Chill.

Pros: Some bartenders really take care of you

Cons: Some bartenders cheat you out of your money

Chill Lounge just simply stands out in the crowd of either college grad's hangouts, typical Irish pubs and stuffy, over-hyped, Wet Bar kind of places. It is unpretentious and cool, great DJ music with a vibe that you will not find anywhere.
I live nearby, so I made it there for Happy Hour few times, but gets too crowded on Thursdays and Fridays (it's better late night, when you can actually get a table), so I prefer really chill Wednesdays when they serve everything at 1/2 price until 12midnight (awesome!!).
Bottom line, great spot that you visit over and over again.

I visited the Chill Lounge last July and let me say that I would like to go again and I recommend it to all I know will be in NYC. It was a small but cozy place. Good service and even better music. Wonderful atmosphere. Merrick was sweet. (I think he is the manager.) He made us Texans feel welcome. Like he's known us for a while. Always a good thing to have good customer service. The bartenders were awesome. They even did a little dance off. Everything G rated and I assume not a normal thing. All very spur of the moment.

Thanks Chill Lounge Staff for a night I will never forget!

Ok, I wanted to leave a nice review for this place because my co-workers and I go here pretty frequently (we work at an ad agency on the next block) and always enjoy it, especially the happy hour on the week days...the martini's are great, and for that price, I'll take 2!! I know someone was upset bc their money was taken off the bar by the bartender, and I know I would be mad about that too, but NY isn't a place where you can leave your cash on the bar. I'm from Chicago, and they do that there, but you can't do that here because the bartenders are a little nuts! Just a heads up - don't let that ruin your experience. Also, no one from a bar will ever call you back here if you call to complain, its just the way NY is, I guess, they're less hospitable in almost all respects. Anyways, give chill lounge a shot - I think the DJ is good, and that's coming from a person that goes to Cielo and all the hot clubs here in the city quite frequently, so come on! Just be open - minded, its not bad!!! Its a cozy little place with a good happy hour with some fun music, what else do you really want?!? I almost forgot to mentio the mini burgers and pizza ROCK! Chocolate martinis, watermelon martinis, HELLO? Its happiness on Lexington Ave, people.

Don't turn your back on the bartender's, they'll steal your money. I live right up the block and was so happy to find a neighborhood place that I thought would be great. I was there several times with friends, each time I was pleasant and generous with the bar staff (being a former bartender myself). One night I noticed that the change in front of me was gone (I had just arrived and the bartender knew I was going to stay a while as I had in the past, I even mentioned that I was waiting for 2 other friends). When I asked him to give back my money, he said it was his tip. I said it's not for him to help himself to "a tip" and that, as always, I would tip him when I left....in the amount I wanted, not in that amount he felt justified in stealing from me. Long story short, he gave me back my money (after various taunts such as, "I guess you're really hard-up that you need money so badly", etc...). He could not have been more unprofessional. In any event, I returned a week later, chalking it up to just a mistake and, you guess it, he did the same thing!!! I spoke with a supervisor who gave me back my money and tried to call the next day and speak with a manager or Cesar the owner. I left several messages explaining that it was about his bartender who is stealing from his patrons, and probably from him. No one ever returned any of my calls. They couldn't care less how their customers are treated....or if the customer's money is stolen by their staff. I've never been back....and never will.

I couldn't believe how packed they were on Memorial Day Saturday when everyone is out of town! We arrived late and we didn't get the table until later in the nite. But despite of that, my girlfriends and I had a blast! DJ Eloy let us have drinks from his bottle and his music was "da bomb". And the Navy guys made our night extra special...

Pros: def music, food (yumm!), great atmosphere, staff, good looking crowd

Cons: gets very crowded so you can't move

just had my birthday party at chill lounge and it was a fantastic night., i had a blast!.....after i left that is.
the table i had originally booked was taken when i first got there, so my party was moved. the bar manager then told me i had to move out of the area i was given because my party was too small.

the waitresses ignored my party the whole night, and i was never served the "free bottle of champagne or vodka" that was promised for my birthday.
the bar was empty when i first walked in and didn't fill by the time i had walked out in disgust.
the experience was horrendous and i was embarrased for my friends to even see that i had chosen this place.

A few weeks ago I stumbled into this place on a Friday evening. It's very cozy and cute...and right around the corner from my apt., so I'm very disappointed with the manner in which we were treated. Upon entering we were thrilled to learn that if we paid cash for drinks it was half price. However, when we received the change, we questioned what the regular price was because 1/2 price was outrageously expensive. The bartender, however, was not fond of our questions, refused to print a receipt, and was quite rude. After waiting (drinkless) about 1/2 hour we were able to speak to a manager. After speaking to her, we learned the bartender had charged us a 20% gratuity fee they failed to mention (and since we didn't pay with credit we didn't have a receipt to view the charge). In her defense, she was very accomodating and asked the bartender to return the money. Lucky for us, she witnessed his rudeness first hand as he yelled at her and refused to help us. I'd never stumble into this bar again. I hope for the bars sake they fired him. Sad, but true.

Cons: Horribly Rude Bartenders

I tried this place few times already, since I live in the neighborhood. I decided to have my birthday party there. I talked to Cesar, the manager, and he made my night!! Everybody had a blast, music was great, service was right on and I'll be coming back, Cesar!!

Pros: great Happy Hour, romantic vibe on off-night, awesome music

The bartenders at Chill Lounge were the worst I have ever witnessed. They ignored me and friends for over thirty minutes. I had to go and get the manager to get the bartender to make me a drink. It was the worst service I have ever recieved. Go here if you like to be treated poorly for no reason.

The music is the only thing going for this place. The bathroom was nasty! The staff ignores even when they see you sit at the bar with money in hand. Your best bet is to walk across the street.

Went there for the advertised half price happy hour. Food and drinks were half off, but service was terrible, and they added on a 20% service charge for 5 people! And to top it off, the service charge was on top of the original price of the bill, not the half off! Extreme rip off, and the price was not worth it. Drinks were also not made well, and there is not enough tables if you want to eat with more than two people. If you dont care about spending too much money for mediocre service, then Chill Lounge is for you.

Went afterwork with a friend and ordered wine and appetizers . The prices were steep for the appetizers, but if you're going for a few afterwork drinks, this is a nice spot to unwind. There's a seperate room in the back with comfy bean chairs and coffee tables- overall very nice and relaxing!

Where do I begin. The DJ was terrible and the music selection was all spanish so if you are looking for a "chill" after work spot, this is NOT the place! The food was unedible and the drinks were even worse! Stay far away from the rubbery calamari and fishy tasting shrimp. The service was just as bad, our waitress didn't even speak english and it took her 20 minutes to put our order in, did i mention the place was totally empty besides the 2 old men at the bar. This is not a lounge or a restaurant, just a sad excuse for a bar in murray hill.

Had a great time! Great vibe... The DJ played good music, nice variety and different from the same old top 40. White Sangria was delish!! it went down a bit too easy, if you know what I mean. Food was very good and I really liked the presentation... overall a unique place with a vibe all it own. Does not feel like midtown more like downtown, except for the professional crowd during happy hour. Highly recommend it.

Too f-ing loud. I went there for drinks after work with a friend of mine, about 6pm on a Thursday. I was hoping for a place where we could have a conversation--it is called Chill Lounge after all--and was disappointed to find that it is just another midtown bar/lounge with pounding music. We sat in a back room where there were a few other parties seated, and although we were all unanimous in our wish to have the music turned down, the bar wasn't having it, and later on they would turn up the volume even more. Too bad, Chill Lounge, your name promised so much, but you failed to deliver...

I celebrated my 30th birthday at Chill Lounge on Friday, June 9th and I have to say that due to the great service and attentiveness that was demonstrated to all of my guests, the night was fantastic! The wait staff did an outstanding job at being able to keep up with everyone's drink orders and always asking if anyone was in need of another drink. The spectrum of appetizers that were provided along with the birthday cake were delicious (many compliments to the chef!). The drinks were great and prepated just right including the yummy mango/banana jello shots that I could've kept taking all night long! The DJ provided an excellent assortment of music which had us dancing the entire time. A very special thank you to the manager, Charlie, for making sure my party was carried out in style! I highly recommend this place for either a private party or just for some after work drinks...either way, you will receive the same wonderful treatment!

Hands down it's my new fave place in NYC! We spent there entire Fri night and we had a wonderful time. Initially we wanted to take advantage of their great Happy Hour, but after a few pitchers of white Sangria we decided to stay. We were very pleasently surprised by the quality of their food (and I think we had the whole spectrum), and service. We really had very enjoyable night.

For all you NYC folks looking for a good happy hour place, definitly do NOT go to Chill. The name is misleading as this place is a total dump. The minute you walk in you are greeting by a foul smell, then the rude and uninteligent waitstaff proceeds to ignore you while she talks on the phone to who knows who. The food was just as disapointing with overcooked mini burgers, greasy calamari and fishy tasting dumplings. Not to mention they charge way to much for bottle service since they are not even a lounge, just a sad rundown bar! Chill is more like a dirty basement than a restaurant. Word to the wise, don't go unless you want to break up with someone at this dive

Not sure why they decided to make this former restuarant into a lounge...the food is not edible and the bartenders are so slow despite the fact that this dump is never busy. Also this is a latin scene so if you are looking for a cool happy hour place to meet some great people, theis is not the place, go across the street instead. I would never bring a date or even a friend here let alone come back myself. Also the dj is terrible and the bartender didn't even know what red wines they had by the glass, what a joke!

I can't belive this place calls itself a lounge! The ambiance and scene were so lame for happy hour, there were only old men in the bar. The waitress didn't even speak english and messed up our order twice! The food was bland and way to over-priced, don't eat the panninis they were so greasy! Also the kitchen was so dirty and i saw the chef sleeping in the back room. I would never recomned this place to anyone looking to have a good time, this place should just close it's doors!

I went to chill with my frinds gfor happy hour and had the worst time. To start with the place is a dump and the music was so loud! The bartender was to busy talking on her cell phone to take our order so we sat at one of the ugly orange couches instead. The waitress was ok but she forgot to put our food order in and it took almost 30 minute to get dumplings and calamari! The food was awful and greasy beyond belief! The place was also totally empty for a thursady night at 7:00! I woudl never go back or tellanyone else to check out this new Murray Hill dump! such a joke!

Went to Chill with co-workers for happy hour and we all had a bad time. The food was not edible, the shrimp cocktail tasty fishy and the sushi rolls were totally gross and fell apart when you picked them up. The mini crab cakes were even frozen, i couldn't belive they served them. The staff was rude and did not know what was on the menu or what wines by the glass they had. I saw the bartender use house vodka and still charge me for grey goose. This place is a totaly dive and very seedy. Also the DJ was terrible and the music was so loud we couldn't even hear each other speak, don't go!

I went there after work with a date and she sent back the calamari that tasted like rubber bands. The place had bad service. Bartender did not know what merlot was.
The place was empty and smelled like mold. The bathrooms were gross and not properly cleaned and right next to the kitchen. I didn't' dare try the food after looking at the dirty kitchen but the drinks were watered down and the music was way to loud for this tiny cramped space. Stay far away!!!!!
