Main Concerns:
- Terrible customer service / interest in calling customers back
- Potential attempt at "bait and switch"

Description:
I had a terrible experience with Huntington Honda. I am an Army soldier who is stationed in Georgia but is originally from New Jersey. I was looking to purchase a used Nissan Altima 2012, and my father noted that prices for used Altimas were $2000-3000 higher in Georgia than in the NY / NJ area. I decided to use a car inspection service to check out car options in NY first and then ship down the purchased vehicle to Georgia.

I found Huntington Honda's attractive price for a used 2012 Altima, began corresponding with Jane Gorgone in Pre-Owned Sales, and ordered an inspection of the Altima I was interested in. The technician who inspected the car approved it. I told Jane that I wanted to purchase the car, and she transferred me to her colleague Jeff in Sales / Purchasing.

What followed next was terrible customer service that still confuses me, as I had already made clear that I definitely wanted to purchase the car immediately, without financing. I informed Jeff that my father would drive up from NJ to Long Island to deliver the payment on his day off. I asked what documents my father would need to present in person. Jeff replied, "I'll call you back." Over the next two days, I called back several times during my short breaks from training, only to get several more "I'll call you backs" from Jeff, but he would never call.

Finally, on the day before my father was supposed to drive up to deliver the payment, I demanded angrily that I speak with someone. The operator at Huntington Honda asked if I wanted to buy a car from them, and I replied that I was trying very hard to do so, but no one was picking up my calls. I was eventually connected with Andy (also in Sales / Purchasing) who confirmed the details and told me to check back that night at 8 pm to confirm that the car was still available. I did so and was told the car was available.

The next morning, my father called to tell me that before he left for a 2 hour drive up to Long Island, he called Huntington Honda a few minutes before his planned departure to confirm the car was available. He was told the car was not available. I called several times to speak with either Jane or Jeff, but I was told repeatedly over 30-45 minutes that both had "stepped away from their desk." Only after demanding angrily that I speak with someone did Andy tell me that the vehicle was sold late the night prior but that another used Nissan Altima 2012 was available for about $1,500 more.

I'm less frustrated that Huntington Honda sold the vehicle - If someone came and put down a deposit in-person, that person has the right to get the car - I'm mainly angry that I had to fight tooth and nail to speak with someone when I was certain that I wanted to purchase one of Huntington Honda's vehicles. On a similar note, I'm angry that even after I had been speaking to the dealership for a week about the vehicle and when they knew my father was driving to deliver a payment, they did not call me to say that the vehicle had already been sold. If my father hadn't called last-minute to confirm the vehicle's availability, he would have driven 1.5 hours up to Long Island just to be told someone dropped the ball.

Thanks a lot, Huntington Honda.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IN ONE SENTENCE: THEN YOU CAN READ ON IF YOU LIKE

THEY LIE, THEY WROTE UP A CONTRACT WITH A VIN NUMBER OF A DIFFERENT CAR THAN WE TEST DROVE AND AGREED TO PURCHASE - similar mileage, same color and model, but condition significantly worse.

This was the 3rd vehicle purchased from this dealership.

My wife and I purchased a used 2006 Odyssey in 2009

My wife's parents purchased a new 2010 CR-V

This time was a used 2009 CR-V for my Mother this Jan. 2012

The previous 2 experiences went well overall, lacked attention to detail with two rust spots that I pointed out before purchase that I wanted touched up, but they did eventually take care of it.

My inlaws had a good experience overall except for the non-negotiable tone for new Honda cars and the warranty associate was borderline rude to us.

This last experience was absolutely terrible.

We test drove a CR-V EX on Saturday, my mother liked it, negotiated the the price to 20,200.00 and left a $500 deposit, signing a buying agreement. They asked us to come on Tuesday so they could detail the car and work on the financing interest rate (trying to lower it)

The pick-up day was Tuesday (3 days later) We arrived at 6:45pm, my Mother noticed her car with the price tag still on the vehicle vs. a sold sticker as we saw with others, but we proceeded to fill out the paper work, make the down payment of $10,000, acquire the financing, and a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty (effective on birthdate of the car).

2 hours later we were wrapping up the paper work and the assistant Tommy said he was bringing the car around and asked if we would want to look at it before. I said yes. I walked up to the vehicle and immediately I saw the interior of the car was very dirty. Not only lint and other debris, but dark stains on the carpet and seats, a deep baby car seat indentation on the back seat, and grease on the carpet. Along with a sloppy wiping down of the dash board, doors, etc. The most shocking part were the clumps of human hair around the car and unknown crust on back seat (probably from a baby) - This car looked as if it were just turned in that day from a lease and delivered to us with tire shine.

I was upset. Georgia did not apologize and was actually annoyed that I was making such a big deal. Manager.

Tom the manager refused to take the car back. He did offer to fix and clean whatever the car needed. We explained what happened over and over and he would not budge. And explained the mileage on the DMV form was different than the car she purchased, he said they do that all the time.

The next day we looked over the paper work and found the discrepency. On Saturday Tommy the assistant gave us the Carfax report with the VIN of the car we have now showing the mileage of that vehicle. 24,144

The form that my Mother filled out to buy the car, paying the $500 deposit had no VIN number on the form, and had a different mileage. 24,329

On Tuesday, the forms she filled out had the VIN of the car on the Carfax report and the car we actually picked up, but the mileage was not the same. Over a 300 mile discrepency.

This made us realize that they switched the cars because the one we drove on the Saturday was not that dirty and there is no way in 3 days clumps of hair and deep stains could have accumulated. If they had actually cleaned the car we probably would not have noticed any of it, but that was the red flag, along with the car still having the $24,995 sticker price in the showroom when we went to pick it up vs. having a sold sticker.

The mileage issue is a misdemeanor with a $10,000 fine so we are pursuing a lawsuit with the NY attorney general.

Stay away from the used cars. The new car at least is new with no history so just make sure it's the right model, color, with whatever options you asked for and you should be okay, forget about negotiating on the price, they are so bloody arrogant.

Car dealers and salespeople are all the same I guess although I thought different for a little while until this happened.

I called for a price quote on OEM tires and spoke to a service representative named Alex. He stated that the Michelin tires they sell for my vehicle are different and better than the same Michelin tires sold elsewhere (ie, Costco, Mavis, Tire Rack etc) because Honda has them specially made to meet their standards with a thicker side wall. This sounded questionable so I called Michelin customer service and was told that, "Other than price, there is no difference between a Michelin tire sold by a car dealer or the same model tire sold at Costco or any other tire retailer". Alex of Huntington Honda lied to me in order to convince me to spend significantly more money for the exact same product. Alex should be fired.

I bought a new car from Huntington Honda. From the beginning, I complained about poor mileage. After writing to Honda HQ, they agreed to a Fuel Consumption Test.

Amazingly, in their test, the car got over 30 mpg. But after I got it back, my mileage went back to 19 mpg overall. They lied.

While the test was going on, they gave me a loaner car. An unsafe loaner. The tire sidewall burst as I was driving on the highway. I could have been killed. Also, the loaner had no jack in the trunk. They assured me repeatedly that they were bringing a jack out to me, but they never came. One last defect, the loaner model was recently recalled. They didn't care that the loaner was unsafe. Not their problem.

Not only that, they held my car for ransom. I was forced to pay for the damage to their unsafe car in order to get my car back.

A word to the wise: Don't go to Huntington Honda for service at all. They'll lie to your face and put a gun to your head as they smile at you.

And Honda's reputation for good mileage is undeserved. Learn from my experience.

I bought a 2010 Crosstour from here. Went through http://capitalone.zag.com to get the quote, which was $6053 below MSRP including all the fees + TTL-lowest in tri-state. Walked in with e-quote and out in 45 minutes with everything worked out; declined all add ons thrown at me. Went back to pick up the car in 2 days and was same fast and pleasureful experience.

Few things to note:
- Never go to a dealership alone
- Be careful of what papers you are signing and putting deposit down until you test drive the exact car you will buy.
- Be wary of all the fees. Zag quotes includes all the fees.
- Do not negotiate in monthly payment terms. Finalize the price and than negotiate the monthly payments. You can do the same for lease. Negotiate trade-in value after the car price negotiation. Keep in mind, more variables you bring to the table, more opportunities for the dealer to make money off of you.
- Be rude if needed. It does not pay to be nice when you are getting fleeced.
- Do your own research. All dealerships are the same. They are to make money off of you
- If you can, sell your car on Craigslist instead of trading it in
- Avoid pressure for warranty and accessories.
- Buy accessories at http://www.bernardiparts.com. They are 40-60% discounted there.
- If you really want, get the Honda Care, get it from http://www.hyannishondacare.com. You can buy it until your new car gets to 6000 miles.
- Avoid the all money back and reimbursable warranties presented at the dealership. They are only good until you need to use them. Honda does not have a money back warranty option.

I would do further business with this dealership based on my prior experiences with them. They helped my wife and I finance a new Accord, I got a fair price on it and the payments aren??t high, at all. The finance department manager made sure we'd be able to make payments with ease and so far all has been going very well. We both enjoy the car very much so and our buying process was smooth and quick.

I went online and searched for dealerships and got an idea of where to go and what I wanted. I even read some of the reviews about the dealer before buying my car. I saw some really good ones for and some really bad, so I decided to find out for myself since the mixed reviews for Huntington Honda didn't help me much. I am surprised by the negative ones because I truly had no issues with my purchase. (perhaps people need to do a little research before running into places all willynilly, or use at least a part of the brain they have when buying a car) For me, it was a very quick and easy process . I didn't get 'tricked' into anything or jerked around, no extra fees or schemes. I didn't meet any crooks or evil criminals.. The sales guy Bob was actually a very nice man. He didn't pressure me into anything, just stated the facts about the cars I was interested I and told me the prices and when I told him it was high he would insist that we could work out a deal. I paid a very fair price for my certified pre owned Honda Element and there was no problems with the car when I returned home. Other than usual maintenance it has not needed any work. I did bring it back to them for service because I had a coupon, but I probably wont return. Not because it was bad or anything, but the drive is pretty far and I have a more local mechanic that I trust. The service I did receive though was fine and my car was finished pretty quickly. I am very satisfied with this dealership and am pleased by my experience with them.

I went online and searched for dealerships and got an idea of where to go and what I wanted. I even read some of the reviews about the dealer before buying my car. I've been to this dealership several times this past year and every time it was was pleasurable experience. I had purchased my Honda Accord back in September 2009. Great sale, everything went smoothly. I've returned twice for service and even went down with a friend to bring her car in. They treated her well, like they had always done with me and I was glad I recommended them. So I am recommending them to everyone. Especially for service!

Worst Experience ever!!!
I was looking for Certified/Used Hond accord.

Salesmen/Manager was rude and did not explain anything about the car or was not ready to listen to my needs.

Don't even go to there website and look for deals, its all scam.
I went there with printout of few online deals, and none of the cars
were availabe(I called like one hour before going and asked them if cars are there).
It seems all cars were gone in one hour.
After pushing salesman told me in confidence , those ads are just to attract/bring
people to dealership, Few online listed cars available but all those were highly priced. These people are expert of bait-and-switch.
listed free navigation with certified cars is hoax.
They think they are number one dealership on long island...I think they forgot to
add "Number one from Bottom".

Heard good reviews of honda, but after this experience , I ended up buying Nissan.
Too bad for Honda to loose customers because of dealership.

Usually buying a car is quite a taxing process, I've been to many Honda dealerships over the years. I was expecting more of the same this time around but it actually wasn't at all, it was a much better experience. I went to Huntington after going online and doing reasearch. As a previous Honda owner I was aware of what I wanted. They had a few cars I was interested in advertized on their website. The prices seemed a little 'too' good though, if you know what I mean. I assumed it would come out to be a lot more than what the listed price was once I went down there, but I was charged the amount of the car and taxes. No more. (no bait and switch here) There were no secret fees added or unwanted warranty surprises. Actually there was no pressure to buy an extended warranty at all, after I said no they left me alone about it. I got the car i wanted, a 07' Honda Accord for a little less than $12,000. Not a bad price at all. I looked around online after and found out that 13,000 was the average cost at other dealerships. It's a good car and I am glad I got it from Huntington because I feel like I paid a lot less than I would have if I'd gone somewhere else.

Bought a used car there 2 years ago - couldn't have been treated better. Returned and bought another.
Paperwork screwups (cash deal) took more than 2 hours. An old neighbor was treating me great on my trade with an offer only $ 1,500. LESS than Kelly's Blue Book.! Salesman promised to remove a huge door scratch and morror scapes - wasn't done. Only one key was available on delivery "I'll try to get you another one".
COST ME $190. plus tax at the vehicle's dealer. Key is mechanic-installed only. On day two, I found a cracked taillight lens and listened to the lies about how it COULDN'T HAVE BEEN there the day before. The mechanic passed by and admitted he neglected to note the defectwhen he inspected the car. Lying Bastards! Add 2 more hours of brow beating for alarms, window etching & service contracts. By day 2, the serivice contract cost had been reduced by 30%. Never again!

Pros: Huge inventory

I echo the sentiments of the customers who say dishonest as we went in to buy a car and were told of upgraded features including an XM radio but upon purchasing it, was told this model does not come with it. We wound up purchasing the vehicle because it was not a main factor in buying the vehicle but the fact that we were duped and the mistake was not admitted to nor did they offer to compensate us made it feel intentional. They had also offered a Navigation system (clip on) to close the deal which they reneged on and tried to sell us a $2000 option!!! They are as Courteous as a Barracuda before its meal.

We just bought a 2010 Insight from Huntington Honda. I did my homework, talked to other Honda owners who bought there. I don't get all the negative reviews. Our sale rep was intuitive, responsive, and very professional. We signed a deal and changed our mind on the color a few days later. He took care of everything over the phone. Because this model was so new we were not able to check the TMV price. It finally came out, and it turns out they were right on the money. The business manager wanted us to go for some extras. I explained it was not in our budget. Well of course she tried to influence us to go for it but that's her job. I would if I could have gone for some extras but as I said we just didn't have the money. All in all our experience buying a new car at Huntington Honda was a very good one. There were no games, no one was rude or mistreated us in any way. In fact I have to say the opposite. The sales staff is professional and courteous.

I don't think I've ever witnessed the level of dishonesty I experienced at this dealership at any other time when leasing or purchasing a car. Every bad car dealer stereotype you have ever heard or could imagine imagine is represented here. I am embarrassed to say that I leased a car at this dealer, and my bad for not going in with the pricing research paperwork I had accumulated. I stopped by this dealership because they had the exact car I wanted. Games and more games are what this dealership is about. It took nearly six hours to close the deal between waiting for the sales manager and watching the sales rep play tag team with the sales manager to get me to sign the sales order. I think it was just wanting the car badly enough that made me fall into the trap. Never again would I do business with this dealership. If I can help others to avoid getting ripped off at Huntington Honda, maybe some good will come out of all this.

Our "NEW" Honda has made our lives a Nightmare. 4 weeks ago we picked up our New Honda at Huntington Honda and it was mud spattered at all 4 fenders having just been driven through the mud.. It was a dark cloudy late afternoon so we did not get to see the NEW dashboard was deeply scratched until they got our check for the purchase price. The car had been running so the engine was warm and smooth when we left.

It is not smooth now. The engine has a serious vibration in it and the gears dont shift properly and the idle is too fast. It drives at almost 10mph in idle... and, oh yes, the dash is scratched and ugly...

Huntington Honda treated me like dirt when I tried to get them to fix the car. They at first refused to help me at all when I called and begged for help and then after I complained to the MAIN Honda offices out west they agreed to help me but then just did nothing. The SERVICE manager,,very poor term for this person, said he was too busy to talk to me but promised to call me back before going home at 5:30 pm////so we sat by the phone for 4 hours waiting for nothing...He has not called in the 15 days since that time either.

I saved the best for last. I gave them a 136 dollars and fifty cents to pay for the TITLE and Registration to the car and 45 dollars for "handling paperwork fees" and now a month later after paying in full for the car I learned that they "TOOK" my money and never sent papers or money to the Dept. of Motor VEHICLES and I don't own the car...they still own it according to DMV>

I do not think this was accidental. DONT GO THERE unless you want to risk this happening to you.. Michael Gillman

I have never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally by a salesman. No one wanted to explain anything and they just wanted a sale. They took advantage of my youth and the fact I was a female. This dealership use to be the best Honda dealership in the country, I highly doubt it is now!
