Pretty good overall except the space is small. I would imagine the wait on a weekend night is never-ending.

Pros: Inexpensive.

Cons: Some of the stuff can taste a bit bland.

ok, so we go to this place because of the conveyor belt and me and my friends were looking for something different. . . let me tell you this is an expierience worthwhile. at the entrance you are greeted by a lady shining with a beautiful smile then when you are seated you are greeted by the sushi chefs with a "irasshaimase" which means welcome. the sushi can be ordered or you can just pluck the sushi from the conveyor belt that rotates around the restaurant. this is one of the best places to go to if you want an expierience and most especially if you love sushi

East is a very special and exquisite authentic japanese restaurant. its conveyor belt is an awesome way to transport little appetizers such as sushi and dessert. the restaurant has great service and its food represents the mother country of Japan. there are seats around the sushi makers so you can see food freshly made. the main courses in the menu just blew me away when it came by. i would recommend the udon and the boxes that consist of tempura, sushi, salad, and side dishes. the overall price is reasonable.
One drawback is that the raw food doesn't seem fresh because it just sits on the conveyor belt and spins around.

I was told about this conveyor belt sushi idea and didn't believe it to be true until I saw it with my own eyes. The moment you sit down (downstairs), you are passed by plates of two, three or maybe four pieces of sushi, so grab away! The plates are all colour-coded, so that's how they determine how much you eat. You also see advertisements along the conveyor belt for other things that are specially made in the kitchen, like special miso soup with clams. The whole experience feels like a kind of Japanese diner. It's energetic and the staff is extremely attentive. Upstairs, there are private rooms for groups of friends and also a karaoke bar for the second part of the night. Overall, this restaurant rocks, especially because it's amazingly inexpensive... especially on Tuesdays. Go with sushi lovers and enjoy... just eat slowly because those plates of sushi pile up and you can get a little overly excited, haha.

My friend Sandy introduced this place. There are inexpensive sushi, lunch boxes ($15-20) and noodle soups (Get soba noodles). It is a great environment to be in after 5pm. You can be seat on the 2nd floor.

The best thing about East is that it is perfect for small eaters or people who don't like eating too much of the same thing. Watch as food rolls around the converyor belt for whatever tickles your fancy. A really good roll I had tried was a salmon roll that was wider than usual, had a slab of salmon outside of the roll and was sprinkled with fish roe. Can't remember the name of it though. Prices are pretty low and sushi is good. A definite must try.

Bottom line, East is a staple of my diet. I used to live on 25th & 1st, so it made sense to go quite often, but now I live in Queens & still go--that tells you how great it is. You can either have sushi conveyor style downstairs or eat in style upstairs. Private tables, quiet, but not too quiet. It's great for a first date--amazing food for really great prices!

I live nearby and have been at least 50 times in the last two years. Consistently excellent, fresh fish at a great price, but you've got to go when they're good and busy or otherwise selection and freshness quickly deteriorate. The price to pay; Japanese restaurants are always strict about timings anyway, and I can accept that for such great stuff.

this is a fun place to go with your family or friends. if you're the type of person that needs to try all the flavors in an assorted chocolate box, you'll love to dine by the conveyor belt because you can try all the variety of sushi and rolls.

Conveyor belt sushi--such a novelty. I thought it was really cute. There is a pretty high turnover so the sushi was pretty fresh. They probably make them purposely small so you can eat more. Prices are pretty reasonably. I think they have the cheapest take out sushi in nyc. Also, you can sign up for an annual membership where u get 10% off. Service isn't that great though. It took them a long time to take our order and refill our water.

We opted to be seated upstairs because the downstairs looked crowded, and although it seemed like there were many people upstairs, seating was still very prompt. Very good atmosphere with lighting and personal rooms for tables. My boyfriend and I were seated at individual tables with another couple in the same room - so don't expect anything too personal! Food was DELICIOUS - we didn't have a conveyer belt from downstairs, but the menu is separated into sections and is very clear with pictures and good pricing. Our servers were very friendly, but there was quite a wait for the food to arrive - perhaps too many orders to attend to at once? In any case, the food was well worth the wait for its reasonable price. A New York sushi experience.

Sure if you never had sushi before this might be a place you want to check out. There is a conveyer belt that goes around near your table and if you like what you see you take the plate off the belt. The problem with this is that if no one picks up the a dish it just keeps going around the room till someone does pick it up, therefore the fish I ate here wasn't fresh looked dry even. If you wanna check out the cool conveyer belt going around the room I suggest you go to their window and take a look from the outside and get some real sushi elsewhere.

If you love sushi, this is one of the best deals in Manhattan. The food is exceptional for the price. I had a wonderful meal with a friend for only $18.00 including tip. (hint: monday night is tuna night-- they have $1.00 tuna roll specials!)

You never need to wait 15 minutes to be served, the food is right there in front of you. Nice small sushis rolling out on a factory like conveyer. Don't get me wrong, the food is pretty good. I actually find it refreshing, but after looking at the same thing going round and round for 40mins, it gets boring pretty quickly. Service is excellent, and price is right (I have the membership card).

This place is fresh and cool. The ambiance is nice, it features a conveyor belt apparatus. You just sit and watch the food pass by and pick out whatever you like. They have a menu in which you can order stuff not offered on the conveyor belt. Be prepared to wait a bit. The line can be hectic at evenings. They have an upstairs restaurant which is more elegant but the fun is downstairs with the conveyor belt. The downstairs is not recommended for groups since you have to wait for a row of seats to be available. Also go in the evenings after 6pm or so. That's when they bring out the good food.
