Puppy Depot gets every single one of their puppies from puppy mills in the Midwest. You will NEVER find a puppy from a reputable breeder in any kind of pet store. When you purchase a puppy from Puppy Depot or any other retail puppy store, you are supporting this disgusting business. Mothers are bred until they die and crammed into tiny cages. More often than not you will get a sick puppy and often times they die. Thankfully they are SHUTTING THEIR DOORS tomorrow (so I've heard). But, that doesn't mean they'll be gone forever. I'm sure they'll open up somewhere else. You are most definitely saving a life if you buy one of the pups, but you're still supporting a horrible, horrible business. I wish that every retail puppy store would shut down and people would wake up and smell the coffee. Puppy mills are disgusting and the people that run them are no better than the sh*t on the sidewalk.

Horrible place. Poor pups. Hope they close soon because nothing should be treated that way.
The smell is awful and they microchip and tack on the extra price on top of the already crazy price.

The store stinks of POT!!!! and it took forever for someone to actually come over to us and help us and then finally some guy was throwing dog food in cages and ignoring us. Something is very strange about the place. Its very dirty and depressing looking. The girl working there looked stoned out of her face. I wish i could rescue all of the dogs that were there to get them out of there

Ridiculous experience!! My family and I stopped in looking for a rottweiler pup. After playing with her for awhile we decided to inquire on a price. The 2 kids/teens working there came in and out of the room numerous times with ridiculous offers for the dog to where my husband and I said forget it. They asked our budget and kept making deals but always adding on different things and ending back at the price they started at. After finally saying our bottom price or nothing they agreed. They both disappeared to groom her but obviously had other plans behind closed doors. The whole store filled with pot smoke so bad that I had to bring my kids outside. The male teen came out from the back room so high he couldn't complete our transaction correctly as well as 2 other customer's. The only reason I gave one star is because we LOVE this puppy, she is wonderful and deserved a good home.

I bought a puppy last year from puppy depot, I know that not all the dogs there are in perfect condition because i have seen them with my own eyes. My puppy is in great condition and when we got him he was the same. The whole Shelter or Puppy Store argument is the same considering the fact that these puppies have never had a home before and then the dogs in the shelter have been through a rough start, where you get your dog depends on the person your are but this place gets their puppies from puppy mills. If you have a dog that was brought from this store then check his papers and search up the breeder. When i searched my dogs breeder, i did not find any registered breeder that matched the name. I do feel bad about helping them with getting away with this but at the same time i saved my dogs life. Either way your helping a dog.

Educate yourself before you purchase a puppy from a retail store. ASPCA.COM or HUMANESOCIETY.COM. Puppies are from puppy mills where the puppies parents spend their entire lives in cages. These dogs have one job , to breed and produce puppies. These prisoners of greed never get affection, exercise or medical care. When they can no longer breed they are inhumanly destroyed. Read the facts before you purchase a pup. Buying one only makes room for another one. And gives parent dogs another day of suffering, fear and pain.
Reputable Breeders have no need to sell their dogs pups tp retail stores and they never would. Call a reputable breeder and ask them.

Ok, after reading all these reviews I probably wouldn't have evern stepped inside the place, but someone recommended it because of the large selection. Yes, the place smells. Why? Because it is filled with hundreds of dogs. Most pet shops I've been to don't have nearly as many puppies as this place and so they don't smell as much. Dogs poop and pee in their bedding, hence the smell. Even with the people I saw cleaning the cages, I really don't think it can be helped. So, if you look past that, what's left? I'll tell you. A sweet, amazing, healthy, rottweiler puppy. She has a good home and gets tons of love... so forget about the smell.

Puppy Depot was TERRIBLE. I bought a chihuahua there 4 years ago. When we got him he had a cough and they told us it was just from the paper that he was in. My mother and I brought him home and he was still coughing. We didn't think it was a good sign so we rushed him to the Emergency Vet. We found out that he had a bad case of pneumonia and he was in there for about 2 weeks. After he came back he was doing great until this past summer. He started hacking and wheezing and was not as hyper as he was. He started losing weight. I brought him to the Vet in June to find out he had a bad heart and bad lungs that was associated with having pneumonia 4 years prior. This past monday his heart stopped beating. He was only 4 years old and died. I can honestly say Puppy Depot is TERRRIBBLLLLE!!! I suggest that nobody gets an animal from there. It just ends in complete heartache.

Also, I knew someone else who got a dog from there and died of Cancer.

I purchased a Beagle just a couple months ago and he is doing great. The folks at the store were very helpful in providing me with "Jake's" health record and giving me infomation on how to take care of him. My wife and two children just love our new addition to the family. Thanks Puppy Depot.

i bought my corgi from puppy sepot 5+ years ago. he's a great dog and was perfectly healthy when we got him.
about a yeaar ago we bought a hybernese from there and unfortunetly this puppy is very sick. he has liver disease. but not every puppy is perfectly healthy and his liver disease has nothing to do with place. we brought him back last week and explained that he's sick and he has seizure episodes. they paid for a vet visit and the vet told us to put him down. we told puppy dpeot and they said they would pay for it. we brought him to a differnt vet and they said that they wouldn't put him down . long story short puppy depot is rehoming the dog with some who can afford his condition and gave us a credit for another puppy. they're very nice in there. i don't understand how anyone coiuld think different,

I Checked shelters and adoption places befor evben thinking of buying a dog which i think anyone should do, but i ended up buying my Beagle from puppy depot and he is great he is a beautiful healthy dog, and the staff was really nice and helpful i went there everyday for just about two weeks to see him and they were really, really great. The place may not smell great or have a great reputation but you have to see for yourself, it may not be the best place but my dog is great and was worth every penny AND HEALTHY!

I got my 5 month old beagle/lab mix from puppy depot. The cages were CONSTANTLY cleaned, and there wasn't a " dog mess" in sight. With the dog came all his background information, a free bath before taking him home, and a free vet check up. The workers were very helpful, and didn't push me to buy "accessories" for the dog {I had all I needed at home}. Though they did help me get the best sort of food for his growth. He came home with all his shots already given, and the Vet told me he was in perfect condition. Albeit, his "big boy" teeth haven't grown in yet, but that isn't the stores fault. Puck {as he was named} is a very healthy, very happy dog. And I would definitely recommend getting a puppy or dog from this place.

I was at Puppy Depot today. It is Very nice in there. The workers helped me very much. And all of the cages were very clean. It is a pet store its not goin to smell perfect. And all of you people are complaing why BUY an animal but its just like buying a fish or a hamster. I do rescue but maybe some people want a pure breed puppy or a dog that they no the history or have a small children and want a puppy thats perfect for them.I walked around I opened Many Cages and the puppys ran right up to me and started to lick my face. All the pups were so happy n running around there cages. And there were so many people there playing and handleing the animals. And they had Ivan and Charlie there at the door to great me. I played tug-a-war with many of the pups and they were perfectly healthy.Anyway all of u people are saying its horrible when its really not and for you people who read these reviews and then say o im not buying from them...Why dont you look for youself.

-the place is a pet store its not going to smell like roses.
-the staff was fine greeted me when i walked in and they helped me find my boston.
-i was also greeted by charlie the dog with a mohawk and ivan a ridiculous pitbull who was just perfect all around my kids loved them both.
-for the g.g. person PAYING off the scpa? what are you nuts! get over your grudge and yourself obviously there doing what there supposed to, to stay in buissiness.and thats a good thing.
-i saw what they call "kennel guys" 3 of them going around the store in each cage cleaning out all the poop and anything else.
-most of the puppys i saw looked in good shape. of course some maybe sick or getting sick did you see how many puppies there are. when i was there i saw a woman giving a few of the dogs medication.
-Basically from what i saw and heard and asked puppy depot was overall not as bad as some people might say. some peoploe just hate the fact theres pet stores. But if you think about it....im glad those puppies are in there getting fed, gettig medicine instead of wondering the street just to die. So people really have to take the stick out of there ass because its not that bad and people never seem to get that puppy depot is a buisisnes. and EB and AR if you heard the dog yelping and saw it with its leg stuck why didnt you just help it? you say you felt bad but you had the time to find an employee and say something so that means you had plenty of time to fix it if you really felt that "bad" your at fault just aas much.
-You either like the puppy depot or you dnt personally i thought it was great. No store and nobody is perfect ..accept the flaws. whoever is 50/50 about going id say just go you have nothing loose and you can always leave if you wanted to but you never know there might be the puppy you were looking for looking right back at you.

I just bought a puppy and this place is disgusting. I have been in puppy stores and have never seen anthing like this before. While we were there the SCPA was there, I don't know how this place remains open unless there paying off the SCPA off. I don't want to discourage people from getting there animals there because these puppies do need to be rescued from there. I would hope this place really cleans up-there were many employees just standing around doing nothing while we were there-my thoughts were why arent they cleaning this place up. I think it has potential to clean up if there employees did the right thing while they were working and getting paid to work not just sit around. My puppy had to be placed on antibiotics she had kennel cough which is an upper respiratory infection.-My puppy was only in the kennel for three days and she got sick. When the puppy pooped on the floor this guy came into the room, I said could I help you and he didnt respond because he didnt even speak english he then came into the room and took shredded paper out of the crib and picked the poop up off the floor....This place is illegal in so many ways.
Someone needs to do something about this. I could only hope that they would see all there bad reviews and they would do something about it to clean themselves up to give themselves a better name.....The one good thing about this place is that I rescued my puppy from there and we love her very much and glad we picked her. I am very happy that besides this cold she has that our puppy is in good health.....

I got a dog from there 2 years ago. Everyone told me not to. The dog was a year old already so I was nervous. I brought him home and he got along great with my other dogs. He also got along great with my cats. The vets said he was healthy as could be. We got him fixed and that was that. He's the happiest, healthiest dog there could be and we're in love. =) Maybe there's something wrong with some of the things that goes in there but i felt like i saved my dog from there if something bad was going to happen. Now he has a great family that loves him!

Just got back from the Puppy Depot in Coram and wanted to write a little report. I have mixed feelings about the place. Some dogs look really healthy, some dogs look like they just want to get the hell out and some just do not look like pure breeds. As you walk around you see a lot of Yorkies that usually go like hot cakes. Not these yorkies though as some of them look 20+ weeks of age. And some do not look like pure breed yorkies. The place is very very dirty and the first impression is terrible. When you see the employees they do no give you a good first impression as well as most of them do not speak english. One day when i get another dog I will buy from there anyway as I cannot look at some of those dogs because some I just want to buy and get them out of there and give them a better place. Buy at your own discretion.

I recently bought a schnoodle there and she is great! Yes the price was high but she was worth it. The place was not bad at all. It is a typical dog store. The animals all looked good and the cages for the most part were clean too. I took my dog to the vet as soon as I could and she is healthy. She is not almost 5 months old and is the sweetest thing! My advice would be to know what you are looking for and be careful. Take the new animals to the vet as soon as you can. I would go to Puppy Depot again!

Okay, I agree that yea it isn't the nicest but it isnt the best when it comes to looks. The care of the anamls however is a different story. I'v gotten two pets from there. one was a puppy that when I brought it I was told it was a purbreed yorkie Terrior. I come to find later after many visits to the vet because of his unusual large size he is not a yorkie at all. He is a silkie terrior mix. I spent over $1000.00 on a puppy who should have been about $500.00. When I went back they denied the hole thing, even when I had papers from the vet stating what he was and the papers they gave me stating something different. The other pet I got there most recently was a 8 week old kitten. I was told that she had been de-wormed and had her up to date shots. When I took her to the vet two days later. He told me she had round worms, coxcitia, and had never had her shots. My kitten then had to be put on medicine which I had to give her everyday. Puppy depot is not a terrible place just dont believe everything they tell you and have your pet checked by a vet right away.

I have been to puppy depot once and will NEVER go there again. The place is dirty, and the overall appearance reminded me of a science fic movie. My friend bought a dog from there and he ended up having some kind of worm that caused him to loose his fur and get sore patches. Her daughter caught it also. He was a beautiful brown boxer who later died of an incurable disease at the age of 3 years which was from inbreeding. Never buy from Puppy Depot, I wonder if they are on a watch list or something.

I have bought two dogs from puppy depot and luckily they are healthy as of now. However i still go in there from time to time and i think this place is unsanitary, unsafe and just a and environment, This place is disgusting and needs to be shut down. I went in there on a Monday and noticed a puppy with blood and dog crap on its face and i told a staff and they promised they would remove it and i went back on the following Monday and it was still there this place needs to be closed. One of the puppies i got from there acts strange when men try to touch him and i have a feeling he was abused or mistreated from there. I questioned this for a long time and when i went in there once i saw one of the men they have cleaning the cages pushing them and throwing them against the wall. i will never buy a dog from this place again not to mention i paid $900 dollars for a "full" 100% Yorkie and now my dog is currently 23lbs not over weight the doctor says he is mixed with something else. This place needs to be shut down there a horrible place and i advise any one who wants to buy a puppy from there to choose a respectable breeder who dose not buy dogs from puppy mills and force them to live in such horrible conditions. DISGUSTING!

My family and I got our Weimeraner here, and i have to say it was not a great experience at all. We told the staff we were looking for a weim puppy, they had one and brought her into the room. She did not move, and wasn't even trying to hide, she was just lethargic. I said it might be because she's alone, and asked if they could bring another puppy in, maybe it will get her playing. The result was just two lethargic puppies. It also looked as though she just had her tail clipped and it wasn't healing well, i could tell because there was no bandage on it. It was hard to look at her because i could tell she was not happy or healthy, but i didn't want to risk buying her and getting attached, and then have to put her to sleep the next day. So we asked if they had anymore, even though we didn't see anymore in the store. They said they did, we were surprised. They brought in a dog a bit older, but he looked at us and jumped right on our laps. I'm guessing because he wasn't the youngest puppy they didn't keep him out front, but boy were they missing out. His name is Winston, he chose us and we love him to pieces. I do have to say he didn't have any diseases, but he did have sacks of puss on his elbows which we had to take to our vet to drain. The vet said it was because he was kept in a cage too small to even stand up. Terrible. I would not NOT RECOMMEND this place to anybody, but i would hope those puppies all get saved because nothing should be living in a situation like that.

Both Poodles I purchased from Puppy Depot received a clean bill of health from my own Vets physical.

Fact 1. Puppies have worms. They are provided a series of worming meds that are given approximately two weeks apart from one another. While a routine worming med will kill most, it does not kill all worms - hence their are different drugs out their.

Fact 2. Regardless of where you purchase your animal, not all puppies are healthy. Some puppies do not live. I'm not saying that to be nasty, but it is the truth! Dogs have a gestation time of 58 days and commonly have litters of 6-10. Genetics aside, theirs a lot that can go wrong in that short time frame.

Fact 3. Most "responsible" breeders are no more than home based business's. Simply because they had a litter in their home, does not mean that they know what they are doing - DOGS WITH PAPERS, do not mean you have quality or a pooch with no health problems.

Fact 4. "Responsible" Breeders are seeking money! I currently have a litter of Boxer doodles, however I have not lost site that these dogs are MUTTS! All doodle blends are and for that matter - should not cost $1,200 to $1,800. I sell my pups for $300. That covers the cost of my expenses - not a penny more. Both my stud and my female have been tested, both have "papers" however I feel that by selling my puppies for $1,200 - you exclude people from having a really great dog!

Fact 5. Poop happens! We clean our puppies ALL THE TIME, yet no matter how much we clean them - they still poop more! They poop at night, during the day, during their meals ALL THE TIME. The fact that you can go to puppy depot and not smell poop - WAY TO GO GUYS!

I went to Puppy Depot 1/2o/09 my daughter and I were just looking and playing with the dogs. In one of the enclosed crates there were two French bull dogs, the one little guy was face side ways in the food bowl shaking all over and his one eye was very read . The poor thing looked at us like help me. The puppy was having a seizure. We go a young man who I learned was the manager. He removed the puppy and brought him to a back room. The next day still concerned I called the store a young girl said the dog was fine just a little low blood sugar.
Can anyone answer what happens to the dogs that don't sell. I would love to save this little guy . His eye haunt me.

The postings below are true. I went to look today. There were two dogs whose haunches were caked with there own feces and many who looked as though they had had diarrhea. The man who was pretending to change the shredded paper in the pens was actually just fluffing it so that the excrement was dropping to the bottom, so it couldn't be seen. He had a garbage pail for the really disgusting stuff, but he did not have clean paper to replace it with. He was just fluffing to make it appear clean! What an awful place! It looks ok at a glance, but when you really look carefully, you realize that this place is really gross and the animals are sick.

There are several puppy stores like this one from here to Riverhead. I know. I've seen them, and in one case I bought a puppy.

Puppy stores in general are not the best way to buy a healthy dog.
Years ago, there was one in Port Jefferson. The place was notorious for canine illnesses. Noone I know who ever got a dog there didn't have a horror story to tell about the illnesses in the dogs. Thankfully, it was eventually shut down.

Our neighbor had gotten a gorgeous American Bulldog there, and it turned out that the poor thing had a canine form of hemophelia. Sure enough, careful as they were, the dog soon died of a very minor injury because its' blood could not clot. Hemophelia is genetic and is caused by close inbreeding.

If I had heard the stories first, or had known to do the research, I would never have bought from a puppy store. We bought our first dog, an adorable, sweet little Westie, from the one in Port Jefferson, and she was only 4 years old when we had to put her down.

Within 48 hours of buying her, I had to have her treated for kennel cough and worms. Poor, sweet, little thing was a mess! She became lethargic and started breathing with a labored wheezing that was truly scary! She was fine for several months, but when she was a little over a year old, she started to throw up her food. Turned out she had a genetic defect that is caused by close inbreeding called Mega-esophagus. The enlargement of the esophagus eventually caused a massive systemic infection which antibiotics could no longer stave off. The food just could make it down to the stomach. It was awful!

On the brighter side, our newest dog is a Maltepoo which I found by looking through breeders' ads in Newsday's Classified section. When we bought him he was 10 weeks old.

The breeder I ultimately selected lives nearby in Selden and is exactly the responsible type of person that you'd want to buy from; she genuinely cares about her dogs. She knew the dogs intimately and when I picked out our little guy she could tell me everything about him. Also, her prices were half that of the puppy stores. She is my standard for all dog breeders and I will never again settle for any less. Her dogs produce very few litters before they are retired from breeding. She loves them and treats them very well and responsibly.

She gave me all of his vet records which were from a local vet, (all were up to date), a contract and a health guarantee far better than we had gotten with our Westie. She asked ME questions about our family and our home. She obviously cares very much where her pups are going and with whom. She gave us the whole "Puppy Kit" from Eukenuba, because she is a registered breeder with Eukenuba. She also guaranteed that she would take him back if anything went wrong. I brought him to our vet the next day and was told that he was perfect. Best thing was they were able to call the other vet to verify the vaccines, etc. already given. The dog IS perfect, and we love him to pieces without having to worry about some illness that could do him in before he even reaches adulthood.

The reason that these puppy stores stay in business is because they continue to have customers. If people would look to responsible private breeders instead, then these awful places would have to shut their doors for good.

Don't bother with a puppy store. Remember that dogs should never be impulse buys. Look for a good breeder. Go to a good reputable shelter like Kent in Calverton. Interview them extensively about the dogs and their practices. Be patient if they don't have a litter ready. Don't settle.

In May of 1999, I went to Puppy Depot and purchased a Lab. I had her spayed and she never missed a vet checkup. She was my best friend! In Jan.08 the dog became very ill, My vet sent me to the Emergency Hos. After doing extensive blood work I was told she had Blood Immune Disease. Canine AIDS! She was BORN with It ! It comes from studs passed from dog to dog LIKE IN PEOPLE! After thousands of dollars and heartbreaking suffering, we had to put her down! IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!! Aids in Dogs is spreading because of PUPPY MILLS, You can't tell if a dog has it,without blood work, Vets don't test for AIDS in dogs. What a horrible way to die. My poor puppy. You can not save a dog with aids any more then you could a human. Any store dealing with mills should be SHUT DOWN!

I got a puppy there and she is so sweet, the salesman was great, his name is Mike. I told him what I wanted in a dog and he brought her to me. I looked on my own and had trouble matching the right animal to my family but he found just the right one. I have only had her a few days but she is doing great, is playful, affectionate and was only there 4 days when I found her. I had a great experience and maybe people should go in there for themselves before they make a judgment about the place. honestly, does any puppy store have a good rep?

I bought a Lemon Beagle puppy at Puppy Depot LI and brought him to the vet the next day by my home in NJ, come to find out he had tape worms (which is normal in puppies) he also had a runny nose and was sneezing. Then a few days later he came down with Kennel Cough. What a nightmare, I have 3 other dogs (that were vaccinated over the summer) at home that caught the disease,my two older dogs are severely ill, they are not eating or drinking water and are very lethargic. The vet put them on 2 antibiotics and I'm praying they will be ok. My vet bill from this has been insane! One of my dogs has chronic kidney disease thats been stable and I am afraid this is going to do him in. I wouldn't buy another animal there. To think of the poor dogs and cats that are there suffering!!

My family bought a puppy Sunday 9/27/08 and was great first day and half. Then the same symptoms as the cat described in one of the posts. Turns out the pup has Parvo. This is a potentially deadly disease with a survival rate of 50% with treatment. Puppy Depot has stepped up to the plate and our beloved pup was admitted to the hospital and is currently being treated at no expense to us. But there is still that 50-50 that has my family and I on edge. I am praying that this will all turn out well and I do not have to break my daughter's heart as she has grown so fond of our dear boy. Buyer beware or aware!

Wow what a nightmare! I walked out of this place crying. If I could pick one place on Long Island to close down it would be this place. Most of the dogs seemed to be tranquilized. I will be contacting a friend of mine at channel 12 news to see if they can take a trip to this store. How can two employees possibly take care of 150+ animals while they are texting on their phones and hanging out with friends in the store??

My 18 year old son purchased,on Sunday 8/31/08. a kitten from the puppy depot. We noticed he wasnt into eating that night and assumed he was nervous in his new home. We called the store and was told "maybe the food was too low in the dish. Then we started to notice he wasnt acting like a kitten should , he was very docile, would take a few steps and sit down By Tuesday night he was dead.Since he was a long haired cat, he looked fluffy and healthy, when you picked him up he was skin and bones. You could feel his spine and ribcage.I called the store to speak with a manager and was basically blown off, no apology (not that that would make it better ) The "Manager" had the attitude like it happens all the time. We decided rather than talk on the phone, we would go to the store and speak to the Manager .We arrive, asked a worker to get the manager on duty, and explained our situation, another employee again, not a look of surprise, or an apology. We get the "manager" he explains he was made aware or the situation. Choices given were another animal, a store credit for $350. And then they offered the refund. We were told we would have a check issued and sent out in 7-10 business days., not a look of surprise, no apology NOTHING!!!. Management, if thats what they want to call themselves, all need a little lesson on Customer Service. Please DO NOT EVEN BOTHER. Next will be Newsday and Channel 12.

Over the past 5 1/2 years I have bought two of the most loving, beautiful and loyal little girl poodles (one small mini and one small toy 3 years apart) from the puppy depot. After having dogs my entire life (purchased from both private breeders and puppy stores) I was extremely satisfied with my Puppy Depot experience. No matter where you go for a pure bred you always run the risk of kennel cough just as any human being entering the hospital runs the risk of developing a hospital born illness. My older girl did come home with a severe case of kennel cough-- nothing was hidden from me, they showed me her treatment records, sent us home with medication and then the Puppy Depot paid for every single vet bill that we had over the first 6 months we had her- it turned out that she was born with a very small wind pipe/trachea that he vet was unable to diagnose until she was intubated for her spaying (the procedure corrected the problem). The Puppy Depot was extremely helpful in her care, they received all of her vet bills, we never paid a dime up front and in my 34 years of being a poodle owner, she is the most beautifully bred dog. My second little girl came home weighing less than a pound and has never been sick a day in her life. Bottom line, you can get a sick puppy anywhere-- it goes along with the business of breeding. The puppies at the puppy depot are clean, happy and well fed. And just a side note, I would have paid anything for my girls once I fell in love with them, my more sensible husband was able to negotiate a few hundred dollars off of each purchase. I am not in the market for any new dogs any time soon, but my girlfriend is. We are going there tonight to purchase a little girl "hotdog" for her girls birthday and I do not hesitate to bring her where I bought my girls. Just an update to those who say they are understaffed at the puppy depot-- I disagree-- over the years have been there almost 50 times- just shopping around, looking for myself/friends/family- have been there at opening and at closing-- while there may only be two "Sales" people walking around in blue jackets, there have ALWAYS been a handful of workers behind the scenes-- feeding/cleaning cages, in the back etc. I understand that when people have bad experiences that they want to vent, however, I feel these experiences are part of the puppy business- private or commercial-- this past summer a wonderful breeder that both my partents and sisters bought poodles from in the Commack/Dix Hills area was shut down and arrested for running a "puppy mill' and animal abuse/neglect. Irene showed us great love and compassion for the animals she bred (my family members bought their poodles about 6 years ago)-- point being buyer should always beware-- But I do stand firmly behind the Puppy Depot-- my girlfriend loves her new little girl we bought in Sept and I am bringing another close friend there to buy a puppy for Christmas--

I visited Puppy Depot in Coram twice this week. The first time I looked to my heart's content with not one person offering assistance. The second visit, a woman offered assistance immediately and allowed us to visit with as many puppies as we wanted in their 'rooms'. Based on reviews here I expected it to be a total dump. It is a 'well worn' shop and the smell of dog was pronounced but I didn't smell urine or feces. I worry about getting a dog here because I didn't see any interaction by the staff with the dogs which means they're only socialized with other dogs - how long will it take to housebreak and acclimate an older dog from such an environment? However, this would be true of any dog in any pet store, I'm sure. The one thing that bothered me the most was that the animals seemed afraid of those cleaning their pens. Only the youngest puppies are not but I saw a Pit Bull and a German Shepard cower in the corner when their pen door was opened and fresh paper put in.

Experience at puppy depot was fine. I was very fortunate to have been helped by BOB. Bob is only there a few times a month. He was very helpful, patient and understanding. My family and I purchased 2 sibling Peagles. There so cute, we love them. Many dogs purchased in a pet store have kennel cough. Not a big deal if that is all it is. Gina was also a big help! Gina called us daily for about a week to see how the pups were doing.

Yes, they meet our expectations, considering it is a puppy store. Breeders are wonderful and good for those who can afford to get a puppy from a breeder.

Purchasing a puppy is a personal preference. I feel fortunate to have found my girls, Lily & Lola!

In August of 2007, My husband and I purchased our first puppy from puppy depot. We fell in love with her at first site, she was a tiny 1.5 lb Shih Tzi puppy about 8 weeks old. She was sweet as could be. Unfortunately, we took her home and after a day or two we noticed her coughing, sneezing and trouble breathing. After taking her to their reccomended vet. We came to find that she had Bronchitis and had to be medicated, she also had parasites in her stool. She now has a clean bill of health and has only had 1 other ear infection in the last 1 and a half. We chalked it up to a fluke that she got sick. She's been a great dog since.
On Feb 23, 2008 we purchased a 12 week old Shih Tzu. She was also sick, after taking her home that evening we noticed she was coughing and sneezing. We just assumed that she had the same thing as the last puppy. EXCEPT, we found out that she had stage 2 pnemonia!!! We found out today she has a yeast infection in her ears. She has been hospitalized now for 3 days and thankfully it looks like her condition is improving but they put her in isolation and had to give her an intravenis as well as inabate her. We havent even gotten to bond with her my kids are devastated. I would NEVER PURSHASE FROM THEM AGAIN AND I CERTIANLY WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!!!
Although, I have to say on a positive note, Chris and Colleen had great communication and all bills are being taken care of by puppy depot, coram. Its nice but it by no means fixes the issue.

on 10/10/04 I purchased a Weimaraner pup from Puppy Depot in Coram. He was, and still is, is excellent shape. He has not been sick even once. The young man who sold him asked if I had any questions about Weims, but Gunnar is my 6th, so I knew what a healthy pup looked like.*** 12/31/08-While I had previously posted a review, which was to say my Weim pup was healthy, (and still is), I was unaware of puppy mills. I have done extensive research into them, and after the revalation of rape racks, pulling the female's teeth so she can be bred forcibly without biting the males, never leaving a crate, and multiple years in a cage, I would NOT buy another dog, ever, from a pet store. ANY pet store. These females live a horrid life. After they can no longer breed, they are discarded, period! I understand the puppies in these stores are adorable, but the treatment the female goes through to get the puppies is, well, I can't think of a word bad enough. rae a

I bought an English Mastiff from Puppy Depot a year ago in November. She is beautiful! She is brindle in color and people are constantly giving her compliments about how attractive she is. Mallory has been in our family for a little over a year now..but what a tough time is has been for poor Mallory to adjust into a family setting. You see, when I purchased Mallory she was already 7 months old. She had only known a cage, other dogs, the staff and the shoppers. She was very nervous and cowardly. I felt very sad for this poor pup so I purchased her for a mere $800.00, as she was a discount pet because she had aged out of most of her puppy-hood. Upon bring Mallory home she was in definite shock. She immediately urinated and defecated on the floor from pure terror. Over the next few weeks it was extremely difficult for Mallory to adjust. She was frightened constantly and would cower and take flight at any noise or person who came to the door. She was very afraid of my husband and he would attempt to reach out to her but she would cower and urinate on the floor. After about a month of this I decided to take Mallory to a behavior specialist for dogs. The behavior specialist informed me that she most definitely had suffered from severe neglect and abuse. She was very concerned about where Mallory had come from. I informed her that I had purchased Mallory from Puppy Depot in Coram. She was utterly disgusted. Over the next 6 mos. Mallory and our family have had a very strict personalized behavior plan in effect for Mallory to overcome her neglect and abuse. Mallory has made extreme leaps for the better in her behavior and has become a great, warm, beautiful, loving, friendly family dog. We have now had Mallory as a family member for a little over a year and are still implementing her behavior plan. We still have work to do, for example, when men come to the house who shes never met, she will still cower, but she now has a safety spot that she can retreat to when she feels threatened. We have spent tremendous amounts of money in therapy for Mallory, but it was well worth it. I feel terrible for any other animals that reside at Puppy Depot and unless you are prepared with plenty of time and financially secure I would not recommend buying a puppy from this store.

Contrary to the posts and suggestions of others I did purchase a puppy at Puppy Depot. I found the experience with mixed feelings. 1) the shop does have a distict odor which may be due to the abundance of animals. This however doesn't mean the animals are all dirty, or that proper cleaning isn't done.
2) the shop needs a good cleaning . . . especially in the areas where products such as toys, ect are located. My only quess is that there was some sheetrock done as there is an abundance of dust in some of the "less trafficed" areas.
3) prices were actually not as bad as some have stated. Many people feel that the price tag on the animal is final but the store does seem willing to work with its customers in regard to the cost of the animal. 4) Do they have too many animals? My personal opinion is they may have more than they can hadle in the space they occupy.
5) are the cages/displays too small? No. I've been in pet shops where animals can't turn around without hitting their heads on the display glass.
6) Do they care about the animals? I really think they do at least that was the impression I got from the person I worked with. The store does have problems but they do work with their customers, they help set you up with a local vet, they have optional warranties on common issues that the animal may encounter. I was not pushed into making a purchase. I understand the feelings of the bad reviewers but the common statement is that they want to take a puppy home to give it the love it deserves . . . yet they tell others not to take them home. I think the store isn't horrible but its not the greatest place either. It needs some work . . . regardless of this I still love my puppy.

Pros: None

Cons: They only care about making money

I live near Puppy City, and usually go in 1x wk to see puppies. they keep the small breeds together all different types. the puppies all have bite scars on their faces, some puppies seem bullied buy others and have no escape. many of them looked depressed, non respondant to those that come to the window. I was interested in a chow puppy and the sales kid told me he was $1600 which is more than double what they go for on puppyfind site. The place smells horribly, II leave there feeling bad for those dogs, they don't get exercise nor do the cats that are there with eye infections, horrible. Pray for their lives that they will get out of there and be loved.
