I recently moved to the city and dreaded finding a new salon. I went to Christopher Stanley on the recommendation of a friend. They have a wonderful apprentice program where you can get a great cut and color from an up and coming stylist for a fraction of the cost. The best part is ? the senior stylists oversee the process so you don?t have to worry about leaving dissatisfied. I am so glad to have found a new salon that I can trust.

Peter did my highlights. He was extremely patient and fun to talk too. After years of trying to find the perfect shade of blonde, I am soooo happy with my hair. I stepped out of there blonde and beautiful and all my friends were amazed with the results. Everyone at the salon was very friendly. The atmosphere is chill and there is no pressure and no attitude. The salon aims to please and keep its customers happy. I have already scheduled a hair cut with Noelle and am very excited to have her do my hair. Finally the search is over!!

Christopher Stanley salon is a top notch salon with cutting edge colorists and stylists. After going to the same hair stylist for 7 years, I took a chance on Peter and Mauricio. I needed a hair change and this was the best move. In one appointment, Peter took my brunette hair to a whole new dimension. I had no idea that brown hair could be so much fun. Peter has the ability to understand his clients needs and make critical color recommendations. I am hooked on Peter's color techniques. I would also add that Mauricio is a must for hair cuts. He is intense and serious about his cutting techniques. Even a simple trim translates into a cutting edge look. Finally, I suggest you have your hair washed and styled by Billy. The best scalp massage in NYC. While these are only 3 of the Christopher Stanley professionals I have personally worked with, it appears that the entire staff knows what they are doing and clients always leave with a big smile!
Overall, everyone in the salon is friendly, accommodating and NO ATTITUDE! Great experience!

Going to a new salon is always scary but when I walked into Christopher Stanley last month I met these two great artists - Peter and Noelle. They consulted with me together and made me feel at ease. Peter proceeded to give me the most beautiful highlights that were revealed during the most fabulous cut from Noelle. Peter is funny and smart and made my hair color look so natural - it's truly amazing. Noelle's cut has grown out so beautifully that I don't have to throw it in a ponytail on weekends. If you are looking for a change - a good change - make an appointment with these two artists. You won't be disappointed.

I've been a client here for about a year now, and letting my girlfriend convince me to start getting my cut here (she is a client of several years) was the perfect decision. Everything about the place is great -- the staff are all so well-trained, they're incredibly friendly and fun to talk to; there's no pretentiousness at all. I have short hair that I'm a bit obsessive about, and it requires a very precise cutting style along with an understanding about how my hair lays. Each stylist I've gone to (including 2 apprentices -- an absolute STEAL at $40!) has been fantastic. I now see Mark regularly and he's wonderful., gets it right every time. Prices may be higher than what I'd like to pay, HOWEVER, the piece of mind in knowing that I will get a fantastic haircut that suits my face, style and hair type is worth it. Love these guys!!!!

Trapped out in suburbia and all hopped up on fertility medications (my moods swinging like a monkey) I succumbed to the siren song of the pharmacy hair color aisle. When my roots turned hot orange I upped the ante on my own idiocy and TRIED TO FIX IT MYSELF. The end result - matte, wet bark-colored hair with greenish undertones and neon-y orange still showing through at the roots. Nice! The next morning ? without calling for an appointment I slunk into the Christopher Stanley Salon (I figured that no colorist who took one look at what I?d done to my hair would be cruel enough to make me wait a week for an appointment). True to her sainted name, Maria welcomed this hair-color sinner with compassion and open arms. Then she went to work. I felt a little like one of those Grey's Anatomy patients that excites the residents with an especially freaky medical condition. All of the other colorists in the salon came by at one point or another to gaze scientifically at my hideous tresses and hear the details of the rescue operation at hand - clearly I was a special case. Everybody was really nice though and more importantly I left the salon with beautifully swirled-cafe au lait hair that makes my complexion light up. After what I did - I don't deserve such good hair! So hair color sinners -- or anybody with a seriously bad dye job. Come to the blessed, miracle-worker Maria ? for me that name will certainly never be the same?.

Pros: Maria, OF COURSE ? but also Mark, who was on vacation at the time. He?s my regular colorist and the genius behind the amazing blonde highlights that I completely wrecked.

Cons: Pricey - That ten dollar box of hair dye ended up costing quite a bit more ? so do not try this at home kids!

Let me tell you? there's nothing worse than having an ex-hairstylist sit in your chair. Well that?s what I did to Peter and he handled it better than anyone I?ve even know. I moved to NYC from the West Coast and for months searched for a good salon and especially a great colorist. I ended up asking three different women in three totally different social settings who they went to because I liked their hair color. Each of those women told me the same name? Peter Ripley at the Christopher Stanley Salon. What?s the chance of that happening??? I thought it pretty spooky but took the sign? go see him. He honestly did a better job than I could have done on myself? and I know my own hair. He?s creative an he?s honest and take it from this old hair stylist ? he?s the best in New York City.

I was a little nervous when I read all these rave reviews about this salon and Peter Ripley? but when I called one morning they told me to come in for a consultation and I could meet him first. I find out that this guy REALLY knows what he is talking about and what he is doing with color for hair. I IMMIEDIATLY felt comfortable because he talked to me? he asked me questions? he even did a testing on the back of my head to see how my hair would react. When I went in the next week for my color I saw not only how great Peter is, but also the whole salon. His assistant, the front desk, even the owner of the salon, Stanley, came up to me and introduce himself. He raved about Peter and that made me feel even safer. I felt like I had been there 100 times before. Back to my hair? Peter did the MOST beautiful job? I?ve never been so happy and it looks natural, not like a dye-job. Go and at least talk to him? it takes not time at all and you?ll fall in love with his personality, his demeanor, and the way he colors your hair. Believe what your read about him...

I was looking for a salon here in the city that had a good vibe with an energetic, knowledgeable staff that could give me the results I wanted. Being that this was my first time at a New York salon I was terrified! I found the Christopher Stanley Salon here on city search and since it had great reviews, I called and made a consultation appointment. The next day I went in and met with Shane and Mauricio. I could not have been more pleased with their attentive professional attitude and suggestions pertaining to my requests. Conveniently, I got an appointment right away, instead of waiting weeks like some salons schedules allow, and was in and out in a timely fashion. The staff, from the stylists to the receptionists, are extremely friendly and made my experience an enjoyable one. My hair came out absolutely gorgeous, the color perfect and the cut fresh and manageable, just as I requested. I would go back in a heartbeat and would recommend this salon to anyone. Check it out!

I have gotten my hair done in many salons in New York City, preferrably in Queens since I live around here but getting my hair colored at this salon was the best decision I have made about my hair in a very long time. The staff is amazing. Very friendly, and they are not uptight at all. They're more interested in catering to their clients rather than just getting the hair done and over with! Melissa had colored my hair. She was very down to earth, not to mention GREAT when it came to knowing about color. I HIGLY recommend this salon to whoever wants to get their hair colored, blown out, cut, or even just to get it done for a night out in the city! You will not regret it!!

The Christopher Stanley Salon is always welcoming and friendly its a very comfortable enviorment ! Since I have found this salon I havent been to any other! Mauricio is the man!!! One of the sweetest people I have ever met and genuine! Mauricio Cifuentes is one of the Stylist and is extremley talented!!!!!!!! He turly loves what he does and its obvious when you leave his chair. As long as Mauricio is styling Ill continue to come back!!

Although I have not gotten a haircut here, I have been a big proponent of Stanley's colorist, Peter. I came in to see him many months ago with a head of hair that had undergone some serious color trauma from a colorist from back home. Peter took the time during the initial consultation and was conservative in not wanting to 'operate' right away. I received a gloss to help me look in the mirror without wanting to cry, and several weeks later, corrective color that I am proud to say is now my color of choice.

I have since referred a friend to him, a professional hairstylist who was deeply impressed with his work. With regards to the salon itself: it is minimalistic in its surroundings and extremely welcoming in service. Relaxed and friendly.

I was extremely impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable nature of the salon staff. I have very fine, thinning hair which normally poses a major challenge to stylists. I went into the Christopher Stanley Salon for a consulation with Maria, who immediately put me at ease! She was unfazed by my type of hair and offered lots of suggestions about which colors will make it look fuller. If you have thinning hair, I highly recommend that you talk with Maria!

Tired of getting your highlight too light or too dark? Traditional bob looks boring? Not anymore - Peter did a magic, tasteful multicolorful highlights , took his time and Mauricio finished it up with a fresh, blunt edge bob.

After jumping around several different salons over the past couple of years ...FINALLY I found what really can please me.
I will strart saying that "The front desk staff" is very pleasant, helpful, friendly, attentive and on time with my appoiment.
My hair cut appoiment was with Mauricio, He truly works with who you are and what suits your head, but always listening to what your ideas are and works with you to achieve your best look and your satisfaction. He make you feel secure when he talks, you can tell in a minute that he knows what is hes doing and that he love his job !!!! HE'S TALENTED and I am very happy and pleased to have him as my stylyst.
The atmosphere is awesome, everyone is super nice - can't wait to go back The salon is amazing, worth every penny, Mauricio has a magic touch .... THANK YOU !!!

This was the best experience I have had in over 15 years of high end salons in NYC. Peter did my hair color exactly the way that I have dreamed! I am glad that I never let go of that dream since he more than delivered with a whole new meaning to personal touch- - he was attentive, analyzed my hair , style and wishes and made great recommendations! Also got my hair cut by Stanley who was fantastic as well! This place is a KEEPER! I cant recommend enough!!!

I've been to some of the "best names" in hair over the past 20 years! From Los Angeles to Boston - from London to Brisbane... but I found an ARTIST here on 22nd Street in New York City - Peter Jon Ripley. Maybe it's his background in fabric and art (he left a life in corporate to follow his heart) , maybe it's the way he actually listens to people and asks the right questions (I've observed him for over a year now)... maybe it's because he's honest and funny (o.k. - so I like spending time with him while he works on my hair)... but the REAL reason that Peter is an ARTIST is because he makes my hair look BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL, and HEALTHY. Other salons I've been to in NYC are great... but NONE compare to Peter for ALL the above reasons. He has taught me how to care for my hair and I get comments on the color all the time. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about him and the salon. If you want beautiful color and a relaxing, no attitude experience, you MUST try Peter and the Christopher Stanley Salon... he creates ART with your hair.

What impressed me the moment I walked in the door was that the people behind the counter were smiling. It took me a moment to warm up to my colorist Maria?she was so personable, I couldn?t believe it! I took a look around the place and realized something was missing?the usual snobbish attitude that exudes from good New York City hair salons simply does not exist at Christopher Stanley. Maria wonderfully corrected the color damage caused by years of (pretentious) bad colorists. Afterwards, Mauricio gave me a great cut that respected my thick hair, rather than thinning it out to a rat-tail like so many other stylists have done in the past. Another surprise came at the very end?no one tried to push me to buy a single product! My search for salon has finally ended. I highly recommend you try Christopher Stanley for your next cut or color.

After years of trying to find a salon where I could find a style for my very curly hair, I decided to try Christopher Stanley. Mauricio was highly recommended to me by several friends and I was thrilled with the service and haircut that I received. Mauricio took the time to listen to what I was looking for and taught me how to care and style my hair. It was a very relaxing visit and I did not feel rushed at all. For the first time, I felt like my hair had a style (usually I'm frustrated by it and put it up in a ponytail) and I was completely thrilled. I would definitely recommend Christopher Stanley to anyone who is ready to give up on their curly hair!

I am incredibly picky about hair colorists. I went to UVA and used to drive home to DC to get my hair highlighted with my colorist every eight weeks. My friend introduced me to Mark, who does excellent highights and cuts. We have introduced our other friends to Mark, and everyone has been more than pleased. The first time I went to Mark I brought a dozen pictures, and he spent a long time making sure he knew what I wanted to do with my hair before beginning. My favorite part about his highlights is I only need to come every 12 or so weeks.
The salon is in a great location. The receptionists are very friendly and accomodating to schedule changes. I highly recommend Christopher Stanley Salon.

If you want to have fabulous hair color while feeling pampered and well taken care of at the same time, you need to try Christopher Stanley Salon. The salon's prime location in Chelsea is easily accessible by subway (F&V or R&W stop at 23rd St.). The front desk people Billy and Miguel are very friendly that you'd feel at home right away. My hair appointments are always on-time; I have been going to Christopher Stanley Salon for over 2 years now and I have never been asked to wait. Most importantly, my hair is given the utmost attention and care. Peter, my colorist, always make sure that we are on the same page as to what direction to take with my hair color / highlights. And the results are always wonderful. I get compliments all the time and I even get approached by people I don't know asking me what color I have on... which honestly I have no clue because it is a combination of color/highlights that Peter has been doing for me. I was extremely apprehensive getting my hair colored, especially with more and more gray hair continually sprouting out of my head - but Peter did a fabulous job. He managed to blend various colors together so when my gray does show up it is not so obvious. Peter also recommended a hair cut by Mauricio and I was very happy with the results. Mauricio was very patient and attentive to all my nit-picky concerns about my long hair. Fabulous experience!

Great salon with fabulous colorists! I switched from another salon to Christopher Stanley after 6 years because I became sensitive to the color product. Goldwell makes a great product, and my hair is in so much better condition. Christopher is also very skillful and delivers highlights with great tone and a very natural look. I highly recommend this salon - the assistants and receptionist are very pleasant, and overall a great experience.

My natural blonde hair was coming in white at the roots and was made brassy by the summer sun. I was terrified about the prospect of coloring my hair, afraid of what I call old lady hair. (the box color fried look) I found the Stanley salon on this website, read the reviews and I can say I was not dissapointed. Shane gave me back my hair. If only he could make it grow.....We deceided on half head highlights/lowlights. I was absolutely amazed. I am no longer afraid of hair color knowing that I found a gem in this salon. I came in from NJ for a consult, but Shane was able to do the process immediately. My hair is soft, shiny and the color is the best match to natural you can get. No at home color for me. Was at sea when my stylist of many years moved out of state. Tried many salons, both small neighborhood shops and large "name" ones. However it wasn't until my daughter referred me to Stanley that I was able to attain a good style and cut. Since then I have been using the apprentice staff for color and cuts and have been very pleased.
The salon, although sparse is large and clean. The staff are patient and accommodating. I definitely recommend the salon.

After trial and error with other 'big name' salons (which was mostly error), and much research, I finally had great success with a corrective color and a new direction with Peter. He has an unusually good eye for color, uses great products (my hair is still silky and bright 3 weeks later), and I finally have the natural subtle look I wanted. He is dedicated, fun, and has great ideas. I highly recommend Peter and this salon (and already have to my friends)!

I have long thick pin straight hair and never have time in my schedule to do anything about it. I took a few hours to myself today and made an appointment at the Christopher Stanely Salon. I found all of the people from the front desk to the shampoo person to be pleasant and helpful, not to much the best straight hair cut I have had in years as well as to die for natural looking hair color. I loved my consult with the colorist who blended 2 rich colors to match the favorite parts of my grown out and all over the place highlights / lowlights. I found all of the technicians to be so friendly and helpful. I even got a cure for helping with my bed head that takes me 30 minutes to comb out in the morning. All in all a wonderful experience and end result.

I've tried a few different salons around the city, but none that left me satisfied. I work near Christopher Stanley and was in desperate need of highlights, so I thought I would take a chance. All I had to do was show Peter a magazine cover, with the coloring I was looking for and that was it! He really is the best colorist I've ever had (in the city AND down south where I grew up). I've never been so happy with a salon before. Everyone on the staff is nice and accommodating. My blowout was excellent and it didn't seem like I was sitting there for three hours. Can't recommend this place enough!

On 10/8/00, it was my first time as a client at the Christopher Stanley Salon. I was full of trepidation since in the past, I have had my share of non-descript haircuts and monotonous color jobs for which I have paid lots of moolah.

Well, I am very glad to report that this salon is the right fit for me. Peter did my highlights. He is an artist and a magician with hands. He blended 4 shades of color to create a natural, flattering look which let me "shine" through instead of washing me out. In the process, he explained what he was doing and has made me very satisfied with the result.

After the color was done, I showed Mauricio a picture of a hairstyle that I wanted. And "viola", he reproduced it to a tee. When the cut was finished, I left the salon with a spring in my feet. Since once's hair is one's glory, it is important to feel good about it. When your hair looks good, you feel good because you may feel beautiful inside, but you also want to look beautiful outside. The end result was outstanding.

I'm very content with Peter and Mauricio's work and would return to the salon again. I would definitely recommend the salon to anyone who wants their hair to look good and enjoy the process. Today, someone from work approached me and said you look "younger" since you cut your hair. What else can a girl ask for?

Peter and Maurico are truly talented. I tried the salon for the time around labor day. It's been a month and my hair still looks great. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair. I had super dark long thin hair..Peter knew exactly what was best for my complexion. No harsh bleach used here! Maurico knew that I loved my hair long, even though it was dead.. he gave me a awesome cut..long layers that i can wear both straight and curly with ease. I finally found a place worth going to. Can't wait to go back! Girls, you have to try this place out!

I went to Peter for highlights this summer to try to get the perfect color for my upcoming wedding. He took my hair from a drab brown shade to an amazing blonde and I love it. It's really healthy and shiny too. I can't wait to go back next week!

I have had wonderful experiences with both Peter (for color) and Mauricio (for cut) over the last 2 months. I have tried many, many different salons in search of a place that provides a really pleasant visit and that does my cut and color in a way that looks great that day and grows out gracefully. Previously, I had my hair colored to cover a little bit of gray and to add highlights around my face, but that colorist had changed my whole hair color in the process. Peter did a wonderful job of bringing my color back to its original shade, but keeping it complex and interesting. Mauricio trimmed the layers in my hair to give them new shape while keeping the overall look of my old cut, which I liked. I will definitely go back to them both. The salon is also open on Mondays (my day off), which is hard to find.

i came into CS..and i had an idea of how i wanted my hair to look like. mark sat me down and really talked to me about the different looks i wanted, the pros and cons (i dont like to spend too much time with primping), and a gameplan. i was skeptical at first, especially whn i saw all my gorgeous hair flying everywhere and in piles on the floor--i was secretly freaking out. but he took such good care of my hair!!!...it was quite a therapeutic experience. and i have to say, after he styled my hair and showed me the finished product, i fell in love..with myself. haha. and mark!!!!!! he's a really cool guy and gave me exactly what i wanted..even though i didnn't know what it was that i wanted. yaay for cs!! i cant stop touching my hair *-*

I finally found a salon I can trust after dropping too much money at high-end salons who claim to be the best at curly hair. No more trips to Philly just to get my hair cut! Shane gave me incredible highlights and followed my request to make them look completely natural. All of my co-wrokers thought I had simply spent the weekend at the beach. Exactly what I wanted. Mauricio gave me the perfect cut and managed to make sure that it did not grow out with the typical liberty bell appearance. Looking forward to my next visit.

I have been to so many salons that I have actually lost count. Seriously. I have tried every high-end Madison Ave salon and none of them compared to my experience at Christopher Stanley. I went to see Maria to have her try and fix highlights gone wrong...think a lovely orange shade. Maria spent time to listen to me, really look at my hair and finally gave me the color I have been trying to achieve. I walked out of the salon feeling like a million bucks and have received many compliments. I am actually looking forward to going back!

I've been going to the salon for a little over a year now, and I wouldn't trust my hair in anyone else's hands but Mark's. He's creative, good listener, and can create color that is so complimentary. I get so many comments on how amazing my color is...from men, women, etc. Doesn't matter if my color is 2 months old, or two days...Go and see Mark, at least to try, and you'll never go anywhere else again. I know for a fact that many women travel hundreds of miles to see him, and its so obvious why!!! He's a genius!

As someone with really curly hair, I have had all sorts of awful experiences at hair salons. And I would never look good a week later, or sometimes a day later. Plus the experience in diva-based salons--ouch! At this salon, a calm and professional aura permeates the space. Here everyone is friendly and helpful, with the aim of showing you how to work with your hair. No divas here--just real pros.

Stanley and his staff cut your hair the way it needs to be cut, and they show you how to make it look great every morning in five minutes. Stanley spends all the time necessary to be sure you understand what you need to do and how to do it. You never feel rushed, and Stanley is great at answering questions in a straightforward (useful!) way. He makes really helpful suggestions.

And one final note--the salon is usually open evenings for those of us who cannot leave work during the day. The front desk staff are always pleasant and helpful in finding an appointment for your schedule. Take your curls to Christopher Stanley Salon!

I had my color done by Peter and the result was gorgeous. The color was rich, shiny and absolutely beautiful. Mauricio gave me a fabulous hair cut which is no easy task because my hair is curly/coarse. When I walked out of the salon I had amazing soft, shiny, bouncy curls instead of the usual frizzy pouf I walk around with. Most importantly the cut and color held up very well through the summer and I am looking forward to my return visit. Peter and Mauricio were a pleasure to deal with. They were friendly, attentive and actually listened to what I wanted. The rest of the staff were great as well, no stuck up attitudes here. Overall an excellent experience and highly recommended.

I recently got my hair colored by Mark and cut by Noelle and it looks great!! Mark does the color just as you want (he doesn't add low lights if you don't want them) and Noelle's cut is perfect - she gives it volume. I would recommend going to both for great color and a great cut.

I have bounced around to many $$$ colorists since living in NY and on my first trip to Peter, he got it just right. I LOVE my new color - he got the blond perfect for my complexion and what i was looking for. Peter makes you feel like you are his only client. He also talks about the long term health of your hair - not just a quick fix or looking good today. Noelle did a great cut with my curly hair and an amazing blowout. Everyone at the salon couldn't be nicer and you can tell they all coming to work. Great/Fun atmosphere.

i just got home from the salon. all i can say OM to the G-stunning. Peter is a genious with color- I came with high hopes after another salon messed up my hair completely, and Peter worked magic on me its crazy but I told him what i wanted and he did exctly that and more. Mauricio cut my hair beautifully!! - and I have not cut my hair in a salon in over 7 yrs :) I must say after doing my own hair for the past several years I'm putting down the scissors and paint. Plus the atmosphere is awesome, everyone is super nice - can't wait to go back. I once again have long blonde BeauTfull hair! thanks a bunch.

I have been a loyal customer of The Christopher Stanley Salon for over 2 years. I am usually one that likes to always try new things, but i always tell everyone one who asks me about my color or my cut/style, i am MARRIED to Peter Jon Ripley, and Mauricio Ciufuentes. Peter has been keeping me in my signature platinum blonde hair color successfully for 2 years. No yellow, no damage, but simply beautiful, elegant and healthy. He is meticulous, and takes his time to be sure everything is done right, and is not afraid to try different methods to improve his work. I get nothing but hundred of compliments everywhere i go, even trade shows for hair! Mauricio has alway kept me in beautiful edgy layers cuts. He truly works with who you are and what suits your head, but always listening to what your ideas are and works with you to achieve your best look and your satisfaction. This is assuredly a dynamic team, and you could not walk away with out loving yourself completely after appointments with these two.

I went to see Christopher and Stanley following a consultation at the end of the summer. My color and cut both came out terrific. I am getting complements all the time and today I am going for a half head touch up and a trim. That I'm returning, says it all!
